Though I love this author's work and this series, this book seemed to move at a slower pace for me. It was harder to stay interested in the plot as it became more convoluted. I usually read books like this in a couple hours, but found it took me days as I kept setting it down or would read other books instead. I don't know if at this point the storyline is getting away from the author or if there are just too many characters' "voices" in the mix with all the bouncing back and forth. I hope the next book wraps it all up

This, the third book, builds upon the foundation of the first two. I had initially felt that the world and characters were not as well drawn as the Evermen series, but as the saga continues it has helped to develop both plot and character. The world that Maxwell has created is fleshed out more fully and becomes surprisingly complex with hints of interconnectivity between the different characters. Both Dion’s and Chloe’s characters become more rounded and although the characterisation may not be overly deep once again Maxwell’s flowing prose draws you into the story. The pace accelerates and you find yourself flying through the latter half of the book.

Once again you finish breathless and eager to read the next instalment .... bring it on!

Best one yet, love this series. I was able to catch up a lot faster for this book than book 2.

A continuation of the saga of Chloe and Dion and their land. Chloe and Dion are still figuring out who they are and how to be comfortable in their own skins, all while trying to do what is best for their people.

I have followed the Shifting Tides series with interest, particularly that I have greatly enjoyed the Evermen Saga. Unfortunately, for the third book of the series, I was left wanting. It took me by surprise as I had really enjoyed the first two books. The premise of the story is engaging, yet I felt there was a lack of substance and depth in the development of the book characters. The dialogues were too shallow.

Even though it is a Young Adult Fantasy series, I am convinced young and not so young (!) adults would enjoy more complex characters. I believe there is a great opportunity for James Maxwell to delve more deeply in the upcoming fourth book and I look forward to its release.

This was without a doubt the best book of the series. Unlike the Evermen series I have found the previous books in this series hard going and easy to put down. However, in Copper Chain I found it much easier to warm to the characters and the plot lines meant that this was the one book I couldn't put down. Really looking to the next instalment and would recommend this author to any fantasy fans

Chloe finds herself on an isolate island being taught how to use her magically powers. Dion has become king & continues to mourn Chloe's death. He was told she died while trying to find her father. Chloe wants more than anything to go back home but the magi teaching her say she needs to learn to control her power before she can leave. Dion is urged by his uncle to get on with his life & meets a woman he finds himself at ease around. All while an ancient civilization returns to claim the lands that were once theirs before they where forced to flee some 300 years ago. With them they bring war to the kingdoms that have been living in a hard sought after peace. Chaos for control soon takes hold & everyone seeks to rid themselves of this new threat.

James Maxwell continues the Shifting Tides series with an epic struggle to keep harmony in the kingdoms. It is another grand journey Chloe & Dion both find themselves on again only this time they have to fight to find their way back to one another. Mr. Maxwell writes about this fantasy world with great detail & brings it back to life in this third installment. I can't wait to find out what happens next........

I voluntarily reviewed a NetGalley.com copy of this book.
