Charming cozy with sister I would love too meet. The mini history lessons mixed with story is always welcomed. The mystery isn't complicated and I enjoyed how the author paid respect too Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys. I hope we see a ghost adventure in Athena next. |
I'm still a huge fan of Nancy Drew mysteries. In fact, I still have the first 20 of that series on the shelf, not three feet away from me as I write. This mystery sure reminded me of those stories and Nancy Drew is mentioned more than once in it, along with the Hardy Boys. There's a ghost and hidden rooms as the Ducote Sisters, plus their ward Benjy and pets visit an old home in Nachez to help the granddaughter of an old friend with a ghostly problem that turns into a murder. I'm also a huge fan of the Cat in the Stacks Mysteries by the same author. The Southern Ladies Mysteries still feel like a spin-off and I look forward to this series finding its own place as also I look forward to seeing more of this series. This was a wonderful beach read and I think it unfortunate it won't be released until October 3, 2017. Nevertheless, do check it out, it is probably as fun a read with a hot cup of cocoa while you're curled up in an afghan! |

Another terrific book in this series, as the sisters need to discover what is happening at a friend's home. While they are there someone is murdered. Was it the ghost? Or someone living? |
I very much enjoy these books. The characters are charming and well written, the mysteries are interesting and challenging to figure out. I hope this series continues as it portrays the senior ladies very well. |
Whenever I pick up a book by Miranda James, I know I won't be disappointed. Fixing to Die, featuring Miss An'gel and Miss Dickce, will capture your attention from the first page and you won't want to put it down. When the sisters are called upon to investigate the mysterious goings on in friends home, they find themselves in the middle of a family feud and need to figure out exactly what happened. The author pens a story so believable and chocked full of colorful characters, that you can't help but become a fan. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley. |
The Southern Ladies return t solve another mystery. This time they’re in Natchez, Mississippi to investigate the claims of things going bump in the night in a grand old antebellum home. Mary Turner Catlin is the granddaughter of a good friend of An’gel and Dickce, so the ladies are hoping to help Mary and her husband, Henry out. When a body turns up in the house, An’gel and Dickce have to trace back through years of family animosity and bad blood to find the killer. This is a truly Southern story, languorous and funny with a few chills to boot |

An engaging mystery with some nice twists. It kept me guessing, which is always more fun! If you've read the other books in the series, you'll be just as happy with the newest offering. If you haven't, don't worry, the story will still make sense! |
