Rough Rider is the third installment in the Whitehorse, Montana: The McGraw Kidnapping and finally the full circle is complete. Boone McGraw is very skeptical of the phone call that their family attorney received about their lost sister. The reason he felt that way was because they had been conned with the brother they thought was blood but was not true. But in the end the long-lost twin brother came forward but didn’t want anything with the McGraw family. Now he was going to meet the investigator that possibly knew where Jesse Rose was at but little did he know Hank had been murdered. Now he had to convince CJ, Hank’s partner, to help him find the evidence that he knew where Jesse Rose was at. The only problem was that CJ didn’t know that he mentor was working that case. She was going to have to rely on what he taught her and in the end she hoped that she would find out why he lied to her. That was not the only storyline that was going on in this story but also we were going to find out who helped the cooks lover in the kidnapping. This person was going to do their best to try to save himself but no matter what the truth will always prevail. CJ and Boone have this instant connection but they ignore it for as long as they can. When they both return to Whitehorse that’s when it all starts to unravel and the truth is finally out. When Jesse Rose is found I was so happy that she wanted to stay with her new family but something was missing. I’m also happy that their mother was doing better in her health and that maybe some time in the future she would be able to go back home and start living her life. So much had been taken from her and now she could truly enjoy her whole family along with her new daughter in laws and soon her grandchildren.

I totally enjoyed this series and I really hope that Ms. Daniels will be thinking of writing a story for each of the McGraw twins.

ROUGH RIDER is the third and final entry that takes place in Whitehorse Montana with an intriguing cast of characters compliments of B.J. Daniels. Daniels obviously had a great deal of fun with this series. ROUGH RIDER brings a very satisfying end to an excellent kidnap mystery with enough twists and turns to keep every arm chair detective turning pages.

The McGraw family has been living with pain and heartbreak since losing the twin babies twenty-five years ago. The patriarch Travers still believes his children are alive just missing. Their brother Boone is now on still another, sure to be a dead-end trail to find Jesse Rose, the last missing twin, wild goose chase. It seems the more clues that surface the further the family is from resolving this decade's long tragedy.

We uncovered some important facts in prior books in the Whitehorse Montana: the McGraw kidnapping. Those facts have led us to the incidences that culminate in ROUGH RIDER and hopefully assist the McGraw's in this very lengthy, most often disappointing search for the last missing twin, their sister Jesse Rose.

Boone is out to meet with PI Hank Knight who has reached out to the McGraw family with information possibly related to the missing twins. But it's C.J. Knight who is actually the one person left with any possible leads. C.J. Knight is intent on finding who killed her boss, Hank Knight. And so C.J. and Boone kind of join forces. C.J. at odds over her deep feelings for Hank and unease over all the facts and clues they were uncovering in the search for whoever was behind the wheel of Hank's hit and run. Boone equally at odds over the prospect that this man who C.J. thought so highly of might be nothing more than a middleman for selling stolen babies.

Everything Boone learns about Hank convinces him that there is indeed a connection between this P.I. and his missing sister Jesse Rose. And there is no way Boone is going home without that information even if it means spending more time with C.J. who is beginning to get into his head and his heart.

The McGraw's never back away from any challenge. This may be the biggest one they've ever faced. At the end of the day, the disappearance of those twins is going to be reconciled, hopefully with a happy ending for all.

Well, hopefully, you have all been keeping up with this mind-blowing case. And now with ROUGH RIDER B.J. Daniels finally gathers in all the available and newly discovered clues and winds up with a doozy of an ending. Pretty fabulous by any standards. ROUGH RIDER is the third and last installment of the Whitehorse Montana series. So sorry to see it end.

Rough Rider by B.J. Daniels is the third installment in the Whitehorse, Montana McGraw Kidnapping series. I have enjoyed this series and getting to know the McGraw family. Boone and C.J. are no different. They each play a special part in seeing this series come together. I loved the intense story line of trying to find out who committed a 25 year old crime.

This is a book about a cold case that has been reopened in the beginning of the series. Boone and C.J. are not only trying to find out who kidnapped his baby sister but trying to figure out who murdered C.J.'s partner. A small town PI and a ranching cowboy go along ways to find out exactly what happened to the people they love.

This series is wonderful. I hope to get to read Jesse Rose and Tough's stories soon.

Rough Rider is the third and final installment in B.J. Daniels' Whitehorse, Montana: The McGraw Kidnapping trilogy, and I've been thoroughly enjoying this series so far. If this is the first book in the series you're reading, let me warn you that it's complicated, and although this novel can be read as a standalone, I suggest you start the beginning, to fully understand how the characters relate to one another and how the mystery of the kidnapping of the 6-month-old McGraw twins has driven the plot of these novels forward up to now. This final novel in the series gets a 4-star rating from this reader/reviewer.

This novel features Boone McGraw, a middle son, as he tries to finally discover who kidnapped his twin siblings, and discover the whereabouts of the last missing twin, Jesse Rose. In order to do so, he follows a tip from an estranged, and no-long employed, family lawyer, and heads to Butte, Montana, to meet with Hank Knight, a private investigator who may have some information about Jesse Rose. When Boone arrives, he learns that Hank is dead, the victim of a hit-and-run accident days earlier, but notices some furtive activity in Hank's old office, and when he tries to discover who's in the office in the middle of the night, he meets Hank's associate, C.J. West. Hank was her mentor, and practically a father to C.J. from the time she was 5 years old. Hank's death hit her hard, and she wants to find his killer. Boone is convinced that Hank was privy to some information about his missing sister, Jesse Rose, and that his murder was somehow related to the kidnapping. C.J. disagrees.

Although C.J. isn't convinced that Hank had anything to do with the kidnapping, she acknowledges that nothing Hank was working on would have gotten him killed, but when attempts are made to scare them away from investigating further, she slowly comes around to Boone's way of thinking. As each new piece of evidence is unearthed, C.J. realizes that Hank Knight wasn't the man she thought he was, and that he kept a lot of secrets from her--secrets someone would kill her and Boone to give up searching for. As the two work together to uncover clues, they slowly begin to trust and become attracted to one another, but neither character is willing to admit it, and the lack of romance in this purported romantic suspense novel is downplayed to such a degree that I thought this was much more a mystery/thriller than a romance, which is the reason for my giving this novel a 4-star rather than a 5-star review.

Eventually, the two follow a clue and return to Whitehorse and the McGraw Ranch, where there's certainly safety in numbers, or so Boone believes. I did like the fact that this story was told from multiple points of view, allowing the reader to get inside the heads of her characters and understand what motivated their behavior. There's plenty of intrigue and 25-years of secrets still to discover and there's certainly no shortage of suspects. Ms. Daniels certainly kept me guessing until the very end, something she does extremely well, and while I won't give any spoilers, I will tell you that there's an HEA ending, and that this was a very good read, which is to be expected from a talented writer like B.J. Daniels. Personally, I can't wait to see what she'll write next.

I read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

The Book itself was an all around good read. I had trouble staying with it though meaning it wasn't one I could read all the way through in one sitting. I think the reason behind it was I couldn't passed the main characters. I felt the roles were good, but there was just something about the characters I just can't describe. It might just be me because I am not used to this type of read though.

For this being my first cowboy read with a strong female character I did enjoy it which is why I have the rating I have. I plan to find more books like this and look at more books from this author.

If your just starting here I suggest you check out the previous books so that you can catch up to this one

Boone McGraw twin siblings where kidnapped many years ago and its been more then 20 years since then and now more information has been surfaced. Still with the hopes of finding one of the missing twins Boone seeks out a private investigator C.J. for help. After a suspicious hit and run that killed her partner, C.J. has been on a mission to find out who was behind it starting with finding out his last cases to see if one of them could've been behind it. She doesn't have time to help Boone but something seems a bit strange when it seems his case and her case seems to mesh and might be connected.

This was a pretty quick read for me. Took me like two hours to pretty much devour. I loved that the was a fast paced book. I loved that there was plenty of mystery and suspense. I loved seeing that connection between the two but was hoping for a bit more romance when it came to the two. I loved that there was plenty going on to keep me entertained. This book sounded like an ending to this series but I'm kinda hoping that there will be a bit more from the twins sides of things. Would love to know their history more then what was said and would to to see their own version of HEA. Overall this book was pretty enjoyable for me.

Rough Rider sucks you in to the mystery from page one. A search for a kidnapped child decades later, a PI whose death is sketchy, and so much more to dive right into.

Boone wants nothing more than to solve the mystery of his siblings kidnapping, with part of the story out there, and a few hints at more, he's following up on the latest lead, hoping to lead to his sister or who took her and bring some closure to his father. I really loved the loyalty Boone possesses and his dedication to closing this case. I loved that he didn't let C.J. lack of willingness to team up deter him.

C.J. knows without a shred of doubt that her mentor and partner, wasn't killed accidentally in a hit and run - but she can't get anyone to believe her. That is until the sexy cowboy, Boone McGraw shows up in the office with a farfetched story about a case she knows they weren't working on. But when everything she thought she knew turns out to be wrong she finds herself in a dangerous position - one where she's fighting to survive and working with Boone to stay that way. I really enjoyed C.J.'s sassiness, she was a fun character to try to get to know as they worked to figure out this mess.

With Danger lurking, secrets being revealed and a mystery to solve - C.J. and Boone find themselves tangled up together. Can they figure it out in time?

Whilst this is the third book in the series and things are heating up with the arc for the series . It can be read standalone as Daniels does brush over the previous events. In the last and final instalment, Boone McGraw tries to solve the case finally of the Mc Graw Kidnapping with the help of a PI who is determined to get under his skin and triumph.

Twenty five years has passed and whilst some of the kidnapping has been figured out. His sister is still missing and Boone is determined to solve things once and for all. Armed with some information , he goes to find Hank , a PI who has inquired about a vital clue to the kidnapping. Does he hold all the clues?

Well Boone isn’t taking any chances is ready to do his bit even if mean giving his father some bad news . Every little clue helps as the family wants answers. However I don’t he is prepared for what happens next.

He finds feisty PI CJ and a can of worms. As it seems that Hank is dead and CJ isn’t happy about the death . She isn’t what Boone is expecting all to say the least. She know how to do her job and doesn’t need a cowboy like him . CJ is no lady that going to be pushed over. She knows her stuff and Boone is what she doesn’t need right now

Rough Rider is nothing less then I expected from Daniels. Boone and CJ both wanted the best outcome and CJ is a very independent woman. SO I loved that Boone was challenged as CJ didn’t need protecting. She was more then capable of handling herself. Boone was more for the ride. She knew how to find what he need . Honestly I loved the tables were turned somewhat. Boone wasn’t a guy who wasn’t able to fend for himself. He wasn’t going to let CJ take it all on her own.

He was more then willing to help solve her problem to help with his even though it was costing time and there was other things he didn’t know about happening.

It was teamwork and obviously there was romance involved of course. But I was more invested in the mystery and the intriguing story unfolding that was told from multiple POV. It definitely live up to the intrigue line it part of and I loved how was so invested that I couldn’t figure out the ending on the mystery element. However the romance was obvious and I loved Daniel’s story. It has been a while since I read one and they are still enjoyable as years ago. Definitely recommending to read if you love your romantic suspense and want a woman who more than can handle herself.

Boone’s father Travis has never been able to overcome the devastation of the kidnapping of his twins when they were six months old. Every year he tries to bring the story to the forefront in the hopes that this will be the year that he will find them. He has received information that a PI, Hank, has some information so he sends Boone to talk to him and see what information he has.

When Boone arrives he finds out that Hank was killed in a hit and run and his partner CJ was not aware that he was investigating the case. Boone believes that the two cases are related and not a coincidence however getting CJ on board with his theories is easier said than done. Their search leads them on a suspense filled adventure filled with twists and turns but will they be able to uncover the truth and escape with their lives?

I liked both these characters as Boone is determined and loyal while CJ is feisty and independent and together they fit. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

A devoted and determined son, a father's broken heart, and a stubborn PI who will stop at nothing to find her partner's murderer, even if the police claim the death was an accident. Together they find themselves falling down a deadly rabbit hole, with everything leading back to a 25-year-old kidnapping. While on the run for their lives, can Boone and C. J. discover who's behind the murder and the kidnapping?

Overall reaction to the story? This was my first time reading a B.J. Daniels book and Rough Rider had a lot going for it. It also missed a few things too but all in all it wasn’t a bad read. Daniels does a great job of building a mystery and I get the feeling that this has been building since the first book in the series. I enjoyed the way this author created a heartbreaking situation and allowed it to shape her characters in a way that made them interesting and relatable. I will say that I was severely disappointed in the lack of romance. The book is classified as a romance and that’s what I expected but it wasn’t what I got. I’m not saying the story didn’t have romance because it did, however that aspect was more of a blink and you’ll miss it. I kind of felt deceived because Rough Rider is labeled as a Romantic Suspense so it should be a romance with a suspense element, not a mystery/suspense with a slight romance. A shame really because if the author took the time to build the romance like they do with the suspense this book would have been amazing.

C.J. and Boone make a formidable investigation team even when they were wary and suspicious of one another. They both held their own and I do love partnerships like that, their personal relationship lacked though or maybe that isn’t accurate. I feel like most of their romantic growth happened “off page” which was disappointing given that I liked both these characters’ personalities and wanted to feel that emotional connection building between them.

Click It or Skip It? Click It. Don’t expect a romance but more of a suspense filled plot with interesting characters who have an off page romance.

So a funny thing happened when I read this book. I sat down one night after dinner and very quickly read about half of the book before setting it down for the night. Then the next day I go to finish the book and I’m left wondering “What the heck did I read last night? What happened in the book?” This was weird because I was enjoying the book as I read it and yet already, after less than 24 hours, I couldn’t recall 99% of what I had read. I could have gone back and reread the first half, but instead I decided to continue on from where I left off – I felt that rereading the first half so soon after the initial reading would make me dislike the book. Luckily, at least some of it came back to me once I started reading again.

I can’t really say much about this book to be honest. I enjoyed it while reading and it was a very fast read, but the story never really one hundred percent pulled me in. My attention seemed to ebb and flow, never losing interest enough to put down the book, but never feeling that usual strong connection to the characters and story. Don’t get me wrong, I liked Boone and C.J. enough, but their characters never really spoke to me. When I read, I want to feel a connection to the characters, and unfortunately, I never got that with this book.

One thing I felt that was off about this book, and the others for that matter, was that the titles never seemed to really match the content of the story. I would think that a book called Rough Rider would would involve more horses and riding and rough cowboys. All three of those things occurred in the books, but it was only the later that really existed throughout the entirety of it.

Despite giving this, and the previous two books in the series, three stars, I am still glad that I read them and if there is another in the series, which I feel like there might be (even though it’s supposed to be a trilogy), then I will definitely read it as well. If you are looking for a quick read series with a tad of suspense and romance mixed in, then this series might be for you.

“His lips brushed over hers. She let out a sigh of relief and joy and pleasure. He pulled her tighter against him, taking her mouth with his own. She melted into him and the kiss, heart pounding, desire sparking along her nerve endings like a string of lit dynamite.”

Rough Rider by B.J. Daniels is the consummate finale to the author’s McGraw Kidnapping trilogy. It’s the perfect blend of titillating suspense and romance. For twenty-five years, the case of the McGraw twins kidnapping has remained unsolved. Each of the previous installments has revealed a bit more of what happened that terrible night and of the fate and/or whereabouts of the missing twins. In Rough Rider, it’s Boone’s turn to peel back the mystery’s remaining layers. Romance-wise, he’s going to be a tough nut to crack. Will C. J. Knight, PI, be up to the challenge?

The books in this series can be enjoyed as stand alone reads if you insist. However, if possible, I would suggest that this series be read in order as there’s a mystery encompassing the three books. That said, the author fills in the skeleton of the previous events so newbies need never worry about being lost.

As the story opens, Travers McGraw has sent his second son, Boone, to Butte, Montana, to check out a potential trail to Jesse Rose McGraw, the remaining missing twin. Boone arrives only to discover that Hank Knight, his contact, recently perished in a suspicious hit-and-run. When he ascertains that the deceased private investigator had a partner, C.J., Boone attempts to hire her to get some answers. She refuses, as she’s focused on investigating who killed her partner and why. She doesn’t believe there’s a connection between her partner’s death and the old kidnapping case. She also doesn’t want to acknowledge that there’s strong chemistry brewing between the two of them. But, as she learns that her partner was keeping surprising secrets from her and as the killer targets them both, she agrees to take on the case…

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Rough Rider:

“Hank Knight asked questions about Jesse Rose and an item that was taken from her crib the night she was kidnapped. His questions led our lawyer to believe Hank had knowledge about the crime and possibly where Jesse Rose is now. I think he got too close to the truth. Too close to the kidnapper's accomplice. And if I'm right then you can help me prove it.”
---

“He noticed her eyes were a rich, warm brown, the same color as his favorite horse.
"Yes?"
He realized he'd been staring. At least he had the sense not to voice his thoughts. He doubted she would appreciate her eye color being compared to that of his horse's hide even if it was his favorite.”
---

“What will your family think, me showing up on their doorstep with my suitcase in hand?"
"I'll carry your suitcase," he said.”
---

“Every woman wants a cowboy.”

Rough Rider is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller. The interwoven romance is secondary to the suspense, but quite good. The couple is great together and their interactions and banter provide a respite from the intense danger surrounding them. All of B.J.’s books are addictive, well-written and well-plotted. That’s why she’s one of my favorite authors. If you enjoy reading about cowboys and Montana set against a romantic mystery teeming with twists and turns that are guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat, this is a great series and I highly recommend it. I will add that, even though this book concludes the trilogy, I hope that B.J. gives the twins an HEA like their older brothers sometime down the road.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

B.J. Daniels is one of the best cowboy-mystery writers I have read. Unfortunately, this book, and the whole series, doesn't live up to that. I just don't have much positive to say about "Rough Rider". The plot was predictable, the H/h didn't make me believe in their romance, what there was of it and the resolution to the whole 25-year old kidnapping was a fizzle.

Our Hero for "Rough Rider" is brother Boone McGraw. A contact has been made from a PI, Hank Knight, to the McGraw family attorney, but Hank didn't disclose anything specific regarding the kidnapping. Boone is on a mission to find Hank and get any information he has regarding Jesse Rose.

C.J. West was Hank's young partner. She is devastated by his death at the result of a hit and run driver. When Boone makes contact, C.J. is not at all receptive to his theory that Hank had information about the missing Jesse Rose and that the information got him murdered. When C.J. finds a Hank's office totally trashed and a file that Hank had hidden with a notation about the pink "grosgrain" ribbon on Jesse Rose's stuffed horse, a detail that had never been disclosed, she begins to feel maybe she didn't know Hank as well as she thought.

Boone McGraw and C.J. Knight are on a collision course and don't know it. Both are looking for answers; C.J. to the murder of her partner and Boone hoping to find his sister kidnapped twenty-five years ago. It takes some time but their two investigations come together into one as C.J. learns about secrets her partner kept from her and someone from the past tries to kill both Boone and C.J. A nice ending to the series but there are still characters who need their story. This was a three book series but I hope that we set to see the twins get a HEA like their older brothers.

I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest review.

Read all the previous books in this series and by far, this was my favorite because I love the chemistry & connection of C.J. & Boone. They were a great couple. For anyone who is familiar with the "Intrigue" series, you know that it comes heavy on the suspense & intrigue and less on the romance and while I would have loved a little more on that, it is still well written and kept me entertained. Thank you NetGalley.

This Boone's story within the McGraw kidnapping series. Mystery ends are tied up and romances blossom. A bit of a surprise with CJ and Jesse Rose. Would like to have seen more interaction with the twin's mother.. The series started so strong with her scene in the first book, She is only mentioned in passing here. Other than that, a very good series.

Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

This is a great series. If you are a fan of mystery and intrigue with a bit of romance thrown in it is a must read for you. I hope this series continues.

This is the third book I've read by this author and in this series and I find myself wondering if the author's other Whitehorse books have more romance. For a romantic intrigue branded book, this series lacks on the romance. Of the three, this is probably the most romantic, but it's still not great. The characters are so good that I feel there's a serious missed opportunity there. I do enjoy reading them; I'm just left wanting more. The mystery is great and I enjoyed the series just hate the missed potential.
