After a wedding that hardly takes place and almost at the end of a long-awaited honeymoon, a new adventure unexpectedly presents itself for our Gran Scala, Myla Lewis. This time, she must save the life of her new husband, the new King of the thrax, Lincoln, who was kidnapped by an old friend belonging to one of the lesser houses of Antrum. Another amazing adventure in the Angelbound series, which follows the story of our beloved quasi Myla, now Queen of Antrum and future mother of the Scala Heir. |

I struggled with reading this book. Perhaps, it is because I have not read any of the other books in the series. I typically like Sci-fi and fantasy genres but I think this one is just far enough outside of my preferences that it made it difficult for me to connect with the characters. Add to that, the angst I felt over everyone disbelieving the main character, and it was difficult for me to finish reading. If you have previously read books by Christina Bauer, I ask that you not let my experience color your judgement of this particular book. If you have not, you might want to make sure you have started at the beginning of this series. |
4.5 *s Myla and Lincoln are back again! This story is fun, fast paced and a little bit of crazy. Haha, okay, so there was a lot of crazy. Talk about a wild ride. A letter from a Thrax on earth starts an avalanche of events that send Myla in a mission to save her husband. But it’s not hat easy, of course. There is a noticeable problem the moment Myla wakes and Lincoln is in bed with her. She saw him get taken. There is no way this is her husband. Things spice up and it’s up to Myla to find a way to escape, find Lincoln, the real Lincoln and get the events of life back in order. Though, as we know when it’s dealing with Myla, Lincoln or anything to do with heaven or hell, it’s not that simple. It’s a race against time to get everything sorted, settled and the rightful people in place where they should be. In the end, I’m left sniffling and ready for the next book. As always, Christina did a phenomenal job at not only writing the story, but telling it to us. The audiobooks make this already badass story, better. |
I thought it was slightly above avrage when it ones to plot line and characters and you can never go wrong with se badass angels. |
Having read the first book in the series I then missed the next books but was still pulled into this fantasy world. The characters kept me thoroughly engrossed in the story. Wonderful. |
I love this series; the only thing I don’t like is waiting for the next book to come out so I try to save them till I have a couple to read back-to-back. This book picks up where 3 ended; Myla and Lincoln are the rulers, they’ve just been married and since her igni have decided they should have a Scala heir ASAP she is also pregnant. Pregnancy can do weird things to your body and mind and adding in the other stresses that come with thee new responsibilities she’s not surprised when she starts to have weird dreams. When Lincoln disappears and she wakes up with someone who looks like him but she knows isn’t thing get worse quickly. He is one of a few people who can tell that this is “Evil Lincoln” and not the man she marries and he tries to insinuate that the pregnancy has made her crazy, well if you’re following the series you know how that works. Myla has always fought but since she is pregnant she needs to fight with brains not brawn. Once again the author has written another sequel where the characters and places are realistic. Unfortunately, this was a little slow for me because the entire book was Myla trying to find the kidnapped Lincoln, while trying to outwit and out maneuver the “Evil Lincoln” and not being able to kick butt as she usually did and would have preferred to be able to do in this situation; a little more “action” would have made the pace faster and I feel like it could have been cut without losing anything. Still, this has become one of my favorite series. 4/5 STARS: **I want to thank the author and/or publisher for providing me with a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review; all opinions are mine.** |
I've always been a fan of Christina Bauer! However, I do believe this series needs to be put to rest. I started reading it when there were just 3 books. The consistent insert of books between 1 and 2 / 2 and 3 etc., just gets me in trouble in terms of timelines. Thrax was good and I love the characters, but I just can't read books out of order. |
This series has been thoroughly enjoyable for me, and I think Thrax was one of my favorites! First things first, friends! I would like to thank Netgalley and Monster House Books, LLC for a free copy of Thrax in exchange for an honest book review! There’s so much good and fun about this book! I love that though the book starts out in the epitome of Myla's happiness, it doesn’t last very long at all. The carrot of everything Myla wants is dangled right in front of her face, and then it is snatched away again just when it’s within her grasp, making for an important turning point for her. Since Lincoln disappears, Myla gets to grow into herself a bit more. In the past she has gravitated somewhat toward a co-dependent-type relationship that unsettled me. Granted, I love her and Lincoln, but at times, the slightly immature Myla struggled to function without him. So there is the moment Myla must rise to the occasion and be who she was made to be–a true leader for her people, not just in name but in action and character. The character development was my absolute favorite thing about this book. In the past Myla has been somewhat immature and whiny (but she is a teenager after all, so, we can’t fault her too much). But when she is forced to lead, she fills the role well. I love how she learns to balance who she is with the pressure of maturation and stepping into her queenly role. She doesn’t turn her back on who she is, which is also who Lincoln fell in love with. She merely grows and deepens. Another great character development that I wasn’t expecting was in Zeke! Though utterly absent from one of the earlier books, he makes a strong reappearance, and I’ve never liked him more than in this installment. I think a lot of that has to do with how he treats Cissy. She grew on me, too, and both are no longer so wrapped up in themselves. They now have room for others, and seeing them grow was an excellent bonus. Additionally, the themes of sacrifice and loyalty appear in this book, and it tugged at my heartstrings. Let’s be real for a minute, though. Those Thrax need to get their lives in order. The entire system is a hot mess. It makes for excellent conflict for Myla and Lincoln, though. Some minor things with the book was that the eBook has a lot of typos, a problem I had with earlier installments as well. That doesn’t typically bother me, but in some places it made the story harder to follow. Also I think it accounts for more than half of the minor inconsistencies and repetitious actions I found in random scenarios: Iggy was put down and then was put down again on the next page without being lifted back up. Small things like that. Not a big deal, but distracting. Also distracting was the amount of summed up information that appeared throughout the entire book, or in other words, info dumping. Since it is the fourth installment in the series I can understand how some explanations are warranted, but I feel like some things were over-explained or summed up too neatly and concisely as if to catch up readers who just stepped into the series. But I think the reader should be trusted to remember most of the things that were reexplained, and some of the summaries were unnecessary, detracting from the overall flow of the story. Seriously, though–minor things that didn’t prevent me from enjoying the book enough to give it four stars. I’ve really liked this series, and reading it during October and around Halloween was a lot of fun with its eerie undertones and themes! I can’t wait to jump back in with the next book which sounds awesome as well! |
Angelbound starts as Myla and Lincoln are on their last night of their Honeymoon when Lincoln is whisked away by black magic by an evil Thrax called Ethan. I was looking forward to this book, and it didn’t disappoint. Action packed from start to finish. Most of the action taking place on earth, at La Guardia Airport. My god he was so evil with all the black magic. Myla was minus Lincoln for most of the book, we also saw a more mature Myla, thinking before killing. It was nice to see Cissy and Zeke always there when Myla needs them. Myla is a suburb character I just love her snark and internal monologues. Lincoln and Myla have grown into their roles as King and Queen of the Thrax. I loved the whole book, and couldn’t put it down, much to the annoyance of my husband. This Series goes from strength to strength with the characters growing with this superb Series. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest exchange. 3 likes |

After reading the first three books in the series - I had high hopes for this book, and Christina Bauer did not disappoint. I dived right into Thrax when I finished the third book because the Angelbound series is intriguing and exciting, and you don't want to put it down once you pick it up. This book was exciting, full of plot twists and action. Myla is one of my all-time favorite kick-butt female heroines. She's got spunk and attitude - and flaws. And those flaws allow for personal growth throughout the story. All in all, this is an exciting and original story that I enjoy so much - and highly recommend if you haven't yet had the chance to pick up the first book. If you love paranormal romance, you might want to pick this series next. |
SO happy to read more of Myla and Lincoln. Not to say I haven't enjoyed the stories about their kids, but honestly, I got hooked on *these* characters and their adventures, and that's who I want to read about. I'm really hoping that we still get more stories of these two that keep the kiddos out of it. Maxon is here now, but there's two sets of overprotective grandparents, so there isn't any reason we can't have more solo Myla and Lincoln adventures. And I'm super excited for Walker's story. |
Myla and Lincoln are married and pregnant and on the last night of their honeymoon. They will now return to their new lives as king and queen of Thrax. Myla wakes up on the last day of her honeymoon without the man she married. Her Lincoln has been kidnapped but no one believes her as the man pretending to be her husband is an evil clone of Lincoln who Myla has taken to calling Evil Lincoln. Myla knows that this man is not the man she married and loves by the way he acts and talks. Myla will get her Lincoln back no matter what the cost. Myla thinks she knows where Lincoln has been taken. She believes him to be on Earth. It is not easy for Myla to leave Thrax and go to Earth as Evil Lincoln has ever one convinced that Myla is cray cray because of the baby and they have her contained in her room and he has given orders to keep her there. Although it is not easy Myla escapes her little prison and takes off to Earth with her friends Cissy and Zeke to find Lincoln and bring him home. While Myla is searching for Lincoln on Earth she finds out that a longtime friend of Lincoln’s Ethan has been real busy during his time of living on Earth. He has been doing lots and lots of cloning of different people and he has plans in the making of taking over Earth and ruling over humans. When Myla finds out what he is up to and with the help of Cissy and Zeke they make plans to stop him and saved the world. But of course Ethan has some real bad things planned for Myla, Lincoln and their unborn baby. I have really, really loved reading the Angelbound Origins series from the first page of the first book Angelbound. It has been on roller coaster of a ride. I am not sure which book is my favorite but if I had to pick one I think Tharx may be it. I love how Myla and Lincoln know what the other one is thinking with just one word or maybe just a facial expression. And boy can they fight. They make a great team as couple and as a fighting team. They just fit so well together. I love Myla’s snarky attitude and the conversations she has in her head when she is talking to someone. Oh I can’t leave out her tail and then there is Iggy. He was so amazing and so sweet. Iggy just loves his Great Scala. I love when she talks to her tail, “down boy”. I can’t give this series enough phrase besides I don’t think there is enough words out there to describe it except maybe amazing, fantastic, awesome, out of this world kind of thingy. I can’t wait to see it on the big screen one day. I can’t wait to read the next book The Dark Lands. Do I recommend this book, this series? Oh you bet!! Pick up you copies today and join the fun and adventure and take a trip to Purgatory with Myla and Lincoln. |
Myla has enjoyed the last three weeks, it is her honeymoon after all. But just when life is about to return to normal, Lincoln receives a letter that ends up spinning Myla's life on it's head. Again. When Myla wakes up, she knows something is not right with Lincoln...or at least the person who looks like Lincoln but who Myla is convinced is not Lincoln. Regardless of nobody believing her, she will get to the truth and save Lincoln. And Purgator (and Antrum) know no fury like a pregnant Scala out to save her man. The thing I found interesting about this book was that it kind of reminded me of the first book in the series, Angelbound, where Myla was basically on her own to solve problems and kick butt. The last two books Myla has been part of a team, but here she only had herself really. And sure, her situation is completely different, but overall this was all about Myla saving the world (again, cause she is awesome!) and kicking a lot of ass with her usual hot-headed reactions and plenty of sass. This is one girl you should not mess with and I am down with the girl power. I think that regular pregnancies sound scary enough, but a supernatural pregnancy is terrifying on epic proportions. Myla knew the moment she was pregnant due to her little igni friends (and when I say moment, I mean like right after the act!) and now she is carrying a potentially super powerful baby who can be born whenever (there is no set timeline for supernatural pregnancies, the more powerful the baby the faster the pregnancy- which is terrifying to me). I guess (part) demon babies don't need to cook as long as human babies (Myla's mom was pregnant with her for 3 months). The relationship dynamic between Lincoln and Myla is meltingly adorable- if I didn't love the two of them together so much I would say it is sickeningly sweet. The fact a single interaction with a Lincoln lookalike was enough for Myla to know it is not her Lincoln really says something about their relationship. I enjoy how they are such a team, be it in fighting, ruling, scheming or even just relationshiping (hey, I can make up words, shush!). Cissy was back and I didn't realize how much I missed her- she was a huge part of book 1 but only a minor character in the last 2, but the mischief she and Myla get into is epic- Best friends who always have your back I think should be a must in books. I really liked how Myla and her Igni have evolved and understand each other, but it was great that Xavier had the opportunity to have them talk to him at "triple screech level" to fully appreciate the challenges Myla has with her little friends. As a side note, I have listened to the audiobooks for the first three books in the series and I absolutely loved them. This is actually the first book that I have literally read and I am so glad I had previously listened to Christina narrate her books because while I was reading this I could hear the characters voices and personalities that I have grown to love. ( I would have loved to hear what voice Christina gave to Ethan because he is such a slimy character, but I like to imagine him as super whiny.) Overall this was another great addition to the Angelbound world and I am so happy that I have had the opportunity to experience this developed, unique, magical (demonic?) world and fall in love with these characters. I look forward to whatever mess Myla and Lincoln have to face next. I received this title for reviewing purposes. Come check out the tour on https://smadasbooksmack.blogspot.com/ |
I didn't like this book at all, I coundn't finish it, this author is just not for me. |
Thrax was everything I hoped it would be, and more! Myla Lewis has always been a kick-butt, and if you think a pregnancy will stop her from getting what she wants, then you are dead wrong. Myla is on a mission against time to save her husband Lincoln, especially after no one believes her that the thing parading around as Lincoln isn't really him. It's up to Myla to travel to the human realm and do whatever it takes to get her man back. I've always loved Myla, she has been one of my favourite characters to ever read about. Ever since book one she has been a strong and independent woman, and even though she was already amazing to begin with, she's gotten even better with every book. In this book we get to see a lot of character development with her, especially being separated from Lincoln we see her actually thinking things through and being more careful. I love the person she has become over these books. I was so happy to see a lot more of Cissy and Zeke in this book, I definitely felt like we didn't get to see enough of them in the last book. There was so much action in this book, and so many twists and turns that all I wanted to do was sit and read it all in one night! I seriously could not put the book down. This book has a fantastic plot, lots of action and adventure, and some fantastic world-building. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. |
Like the previous books in this series, Thrax was a compelling and a fun read. I was hooked from the very start and this book did not fail to surprise me. I enjoyed the ride pretty much throughout the book! After going through so much together, Myla and Lincoln are finally married and they are expecting. But something goes horribly wrong after their honeymoon. Lincoln is there but he is not her Lincoln. It doesn't take her much time to understand her real husband is somewhere else and she has to face yet another evil ploy. With the help of her best friend, will Myla be able to rescue Lincoln before it's too late? What I love the most about this series is, it's such a fun and fast read. Another thing that I liked about the writing was that the action sequences were the most fun to read, usually they not my most favourites but in this book it definitely was. Once you start the book, it's pretty impossible to put it down, I ended up finishing it in two sittings. Thrax started off with Lincoln and Myla's honeymoon which is soon disrupted after a particular incident where real Lincoln is replaced by "Evil Lincoln". It was pretty easy to tell he was not the real guy because the real Lincoln would never behave or treat Myla like Evil Lincoln did. Myla is a kickass heroine, she is not someone who is willing to just sit and watch. She believes action speaks better than empty words and so she set sail for an adventure. Of course, Cissy is there to help her, she's the best! I love how she believed her about Lincoln when nobody else would. Myla's experience on Earth is different and the enemy is more powerful which brings forth a new challenge for Myla. I loved her character growth throughout the book. She really turned from the Great Scala to a Queen. She didn't back down even though too much was at stake, even her unborn baby but she fought back for what was right. And as always, I loved Lincoln, he was there beside Myla in whatever decision he took, I loved his unconditional love and support towards her. The only thing I found a little unrealistic is that Myla is kinda perfect in every way even though she evolved a lot in this book. Also, I thought after everything Lincoln went through he would be weak but it seemed nothing could weaken him a bit because he fought side by side after his rescue. Anyway, I still loved these characters to bits!! Evil Lincoln was seriously irritating and so was Ethan. That guy! Seriously, I didn't expect him to go to that extent but oh well. He definitely got what he deserved! Overall, Thrax was an engaging read. I loved how the plot was executed and the characters kept me interested throughout the book. I enjoyed the action and the adventure. The writing was smooth and easy to read and it was fast-paced throughout the book. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in this series! Recommend it? Yes! |
Christina Bauer had unleashed the power once again. This time we have a fantastic adventure with Myla and Prince Lincoln are expecting their first child. This has all the underworld rejoicing. There just seems to be a problem for Myla. The man that’s her husband is not, shall I say, her husband. Myla adventure this time around takes her to Earth and what trouble could she get in there, yeah right. Myla gets in to some hairy issues with her friends Cissy and at time with Evil Lincoln. Evil had picked a pregnant, demon female to mess with and it happen to be Myla. She will not take this lying down. She had too much snark, witt, skills and love to allow this to happen. She does what she has to do to get her man back in place before she gives birth. During her adventure we get lots of action. We get to see a few of the characters from previous books. And we get to see some growth in them all. Christian has blended the fantasy, myths, legends, and paranormal so well. The characters are rich and full. The world she built is inviting and off putting at the same time. You have the places you want to visit and the ones you want to stay away from. You have an entire underworld that loves the Myla and the prince and are rejoicing their upcoming arrival. |
Thrax is the fourth book in the Angelbound Origins series and I will say that it can be read as a stand-alone. The Author did an amazing job carrying through all the details that I needed to know in order to enjoy this book. I liked the world that was created for this series and was thrilled that it was explained as well as it was in this story. Made understanding the world a snap. There is a hell, a purgatory, a deep underground place called Antrum where the thrax live, and other really cool places. There is a lot going on in this world! I absolutely love the characters in this story! Myla is sassy, snarky, and absolutely portrays a young adult who is slowly coming to terms with the new responsibilities of being a ruler and carrying her young. Cracked me up that she became pregnant so quickly and had no idea how long she would be pregnant for because she is the Great Scala. The Great Scala means that Myla has the blood of human, demon, and angel and that her body can house, process, and direct supernatural beings called igni. There can only be one Great Scala and Scala Heir, the child she is carrying, at one time and there is really no information available on a Scala Heir pregnancy. Hence the “no idea” on how long her pregnancy was going to last as pregnancies tend to be different when carrying a Scala anything. As a quasi demon, mostly human but with a smidgen of demonic genes, Myla also has a tail. I was not sure how I was going to like the idea of a tail but turns out that I loved it! Her tail was an appendage but it truly had its own personality. It was hilarious!! It had its favorite people, least favorite people, and was super cool in a fight. It added a lot of humor and I really liked that her best friend had a golden retriever tail. I know it sounds different but it works and I loved that the quasi demon characters had different types of tails. The story starts out with Myla and Lincoln having just been married and bonus immediate conception for Myla. Their honeymoon was coming to an end but before they can get back to business Lincoln disappeared, or at least Myla thought he did, and she was left to wonder if she was going crazy. The Lincoln that she woke up to could not have been her husband, of that she was sure, but it appeared that she was the only one who saw through “evil Lincoln’s” façade, at least in the beginning. Determined to find her true husband Myla started a journey that would cost lives, force her to attack things differently, because of being preggers and all, and grow her in ways she could not have foreseen. With her trusted friends by her side, and a new one just discovered, Myla will find that what she thought was going to be a simple task of finding her husband turned out to be a greater challenge than she had ever encountered before. There was a foul conspiracy unlike which none of the thrax had ever seen and only she and her closest pals could set things right. Thrax was a fun read that has fantastic fantasy elements, great world setting, and lots of humor. It was a pleasure to read because I was entirely entertained throughout the entire story. The ending was very satisfying and I liked the character development that occurred with Myla. This is one story that I can easily recommend to all readers because it has something that everyone can enjoy! This review is based on a complimentary book I received from Xpresso Book Tours. It is an honest and voluntary review. The complimentary receipt of it in no way affected my review or rating. |
Myla's pregnancy is far from normal. So when an impostor poses as Lincoln, no one believes her. Something sinister is going on, and she needs to go to the Earth's surface to save her husband. The action was amazing, but my favorite part of this story was Myla's igni. I also originally thought that Myla wouldn't be able to do much due to her pregnancy, but she kicks serious butt in Thrax! I had so much fun reading this book. I can't wait to see what Christina Bauer brings out next. |
