I typically really enjoy autobiographies by humorous people but I didn’t enjoy Unqualified as much as I had hoped.

I like Anna Farris as an actor and looked forward to reading this. It is silly like a look of the characters she portrays in movies and television. It is full of entertaining and personal stories.

I liked her podcast so was excited to read her book but overall it was underwhelming. I can't imagine a scenario where I would recommend this to a patron unless they just really loved Anna Faris.

Unqualified is a fun, honest, raw, often times hilarious memoir from Anna Faris. She does a good job at sharing stories from her life and also sharing advice along the way. It's different than your usually celebrity memoir because she is just so real. It doesn't feel like she is filtering herself in this. Fans of Anna Faris's will definitely want to pick this book up and maybe even take her advice?

This was a fun audio narrated by the author. Like others who have reviewed it have commented, it throws a mysterious light on her recent separation from Chris Pratt as she doesn't say anything negative about him in the book since it was written prior to the separation, although it was updated some prior to publication and still fails to provide any insight into the uncoupling.

I really liked Anna Faris is some of her movies and on a few of the podcasts she's been on but this book wasn't great. I HATE when celebrities add what seems like filler in the form of other people said such and such, and there's plenty of this in this book. I'm not reading your book to see what someone put on your Facebook or what people call into your podcast about. I wish she had gone into more detail about her career, parenting, or her backpacking trip to Australia but instead it's a lot of "Don't let people walk all over you in a relationship." Also it was super weird to have read the preface by Chris Pratt where he's basically like, I love her but we're splitting up and then read the book and she's like, Chis is my soul mate and here's how I know. Awkward.

Unqualified is a both humorous and realistic take on dating and relationships. Anna Faris opens with the disclaimer that she is not qualified to offer anyone advice in their romantic relationships, hence the title of the book and her podcast. She has made her own relationship mistakes along with her triumphs. In the end, it is all just opinion. However, I found many of those opinions, both Anna's and those that she has received over the years, valid and thoughtful. Faris' openness and honesty made it easy to relate to her.
Whether you are single, dating, in a happy marriage, or unhappy marriage, this book with offer you the insight of various other people on relationships which might lead you to reexamine your own relationships.
P.S. I am absolutely appalled that Chris Pratt has never been in a library. Chris, you have disappointed me.

I'm not sure if there are updated arcs available, but reading the one from before Faris split with Chris Pine is very sad. While there are other parts of the memoir that are interesting, it's peppered with "I am definitely a happy married person" moments that are hard to read and give her advice an even more "unqualified" tone.

Anna Faris does not disappoint with her autobiography. Just as you would expect from her this book is filled with her humour we have grown to love, but at the same time catch a glimpse of her private life and childhood growing up. She's delightful, hilarious, and honest. This is definitely a must read if your a fan.

I received a digital Advance Reader Copy of this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Reading this the week that Anna Faris and Chris Pratt announced their legal separation was a huge mistake on my part. But how was I to know?!

It is basically a huge love letter to Chris Pratt. I have so many questions now. WHY are they separating? Is it still going to be published? Will she edit any of it? Will she write a new chapter?

The title is an echo of her podcast which is the story of her life. She states that she's unqualified to give advice and yet she gives it in her podcast. She also says she's going to give it in this book and while there are a couple of teaching type moments where she imparts some advice it's almost never actionable advice. It's very tied in to her own experiences and not always generalized enough for a wider audience.

I also had trouble with the flow of the book itself. It jumps around chronologically a bit too much, especially in the first half to three fourths. We hear about her first love and then several chapters later it returns to him and then to a time just after him several more chapters later. Interspersed or packets of her current life with glowing, glittery unicorn-husband (man-icorn), and adorable 5 year old son, Jack. I feel sorry for this kid if he ever reads this or his friends do because it has a lot about his mom's (and dad's) sex life in it.

The fact that she was married when she and Chris Pratt got together is also kind of disappointing. I have vow standards. Admittedly, she called her husband who was in LA while she was in... Arizona? to tell him she was leaving him BEFORE going and boning CP but still. Maybe don't admit these things in press, lady.

I enjoyed all mentions of the movies 'What's Your Number?' and 'The House Bunny" because I love them. Also all insider tidbits on CP and tiny tiny glimpses at filmings of Jurassic World and GotG.

Overall though, I found reading this to be sad. Because depending on when she wrote it, I think it was approximately the same time their marriage was imploding and it brings a whole even more depressing element to the fact that she's unqualified to be giving advice. Most of her advice is based on the, "I have an amazing husband and you can too!" vein and now she doesn't have that husband anymore. I can't imagine this is going to do well with the timing of their separation unless they somehow work things out before October when it's supposed to be released. I also wonder how much of their marriage ending is because of this book or because of the fact that she started seeing a therapist during writing or because of the fact that she is seriously jealous of his career trajectory (she claims not to be several times; a case of the lady protesting too much?)

The timing of the publication of this book happening after the announcement of Anna Faris's divorce from Chris Pratt is so unfortunate, as that gossip is going to completely overshadow everything else she has to say. Anna comes across in this book as charming, funny, self-deprecating, and generally just truly the kind of person who you'd want to hang out with. She makes it clear that she's not an expert in love, career, or life, but that she's just a person talking from her experience. Anna has an English degree, and her writing is more competent than the average celebrity memoir. She's honest about her imperfections and missteps, and has the heartwarming quality of downplaying her success in a way that still manages to be sincere.

There is a significant portion of this book that does talk about her relationship with Chris Pratt, but I'm not sure what changes will be made from the version I have to the final published version. In the version I have, she speaks kindly and respectfully of Chris, and I can only imagine that if for no other reason than for the sake of their child, the final version will as well. As she talks frankly but respectfully about her marriage prior to Chris, I don't expect that the book will veer off track in this way.

Interesting stream-of-conscientious style advice columns. Nice to pick up and read a chapter and then ponder the content.

I love Anna Faris. I have loved her since I first heard of her. She is beautiful, but in a girl you would be friends with way. Not that she is not out of the world gorgeous, but she has the way about her that makes her seem so approachable. After reading this book, you feel the same, and feel she would be your friend too. She said this book is about "Unqualified" advice, but I just do not think that is true. Things she shares are so humble, relatable, and honest, that she sounds very qualified. That is one thing I love about her, she is relatable. She seems like someone you want to meet, and will not be disappointed after you do. Also, she would really care. She shares advice that may sound harsh to others, such as why a spouse may not be a best friend, but I get where she is coming from. I understand her point. I loved the forward by Chris Pratt. Goodness, he is so funny, I had to read it out loud to my mom. While this letter is about her great love for him, even after they announced they had separated, I still feel it applies. I feel like they are two people who are lovable, and can still have respect and admiration for each other. Here is the thing about Anna. She plays often these silly, goofy, ditsy people, but she is very smart. I have seen and heard her before through various media, and I think that will surprise some people. This book gives us a little bit of every side of Anna, and is one of my favorite memoirs in a long time. I hope we hear more from this author! Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for this great opportunity. And if she gets this, Anna, know we all love you and think you are the bee's knees.

In Unqualified, Anna Faris paints her life experiences in a way that is honest, down-to-earth, and many times funny. That being said, I had a little bit of a hard time reading it and overcoming the shadow of the news of her separation from Chris Pratt, mainly because he features so prominently in parts of Unqualified. But overall, an enjoyable read with plenty of good advice and a reminder to enjoy life fully, even through your mistakes.

If you've ever listened to the podcast, you've got a good idea of what this book is going to be like. If Faris had a ghostwriter, that person captured her voice perfectly. A lot of these stories have also been part of the podcast. And then there's the super-awkwardness of having your ex-husband not only do your introduction, but be referred to by "my sweet husband" in all of the stories that include him. I have a feeling this will be a fabulous audiobook.

If you like Hollywood bios, you'll like this book. If you like Anna Faris, you'll like this book.

Three and a half stars

This book comes out October 24

Although I love Anna Faris as an actress, I could not finish this book. Stopped at about 40% through. It seems like too much of an unrefined stream of consciousness mashed up with bits of the podcast.

First line: I’m not qualified to write a book.

Summary: Anna Faris, actress and the host of a podcast, is writing her first book. She details her life, career and advice she has for her podcast listeners. Written in an informal style, as if she is talking to the reader. Her wit and sense of humor comes through in her writing.

Highlights: I have been a fan of Anna Faris for many years. I have seen most of her movies and always make time to watch her TV show, Mom. She is funny and heartfelt. However, she is very truthful about the struggles of life in Hollywood and in the public view. I like her even more after reading this. She may be unqualified but she does a great job!

Lowlights: It was a little hard to read after the recent announcement of her separation with her husband, Chris Pratt. I also felt like some of the conversations from the podcast seemed a little out of place. I understand that it makes it easier to fill some pages and cover topics that she has already covered on the show.

FYI: Good for a chuckle. Very honest.

Anna tells it like she sees it. Life is filled with ups and downs. It is easy to judge how others live their lives. The author makes these daily judgments in a humorous way, frequently without a filter.

Overall amusing and personal, well written! There's so much love for her soon to be ex husband and it's almost sad knowing they're divorcing. I wonder if changes will be made now in light of current events.

Anna Faris goes to great lengths to let you know she's not qualified (some might say she's Unqualified) to give advice. However, as you read the book you come to discover that that doesn't mean she doesn't have a lot of good, or at least smart, advice to give. She's funny and charming, and this more or less comes through in the book. It's a natural extension of her brand, and successful in what it tries to be - a light, funny book that's a lot like catching up with a good friend. As other reviewers have mentioned, the specter of her separation from Chris Pratt does loom over the text a bit, but only in a sad way. I wish the best for them. That aside, I'd recommend this book to anyone who's a fan of funny anecdotes and memoirs.
