In the third installment of Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor Series, readers will discover more about the FBI agent Declan Grey and mysterious Luke Gallagher, who disappeared seven years earlier. Declan receives the task of ferreting out a terrorist cell and stopping the promised ‘wrath.’ In the course of his work, he teams up with Tanner Shaw, a beautiful crisis counselor with an inside track on the refugee community.

Sparks fly between Declan and Tanner as they work on the case—and neither knows for sure if the sparks can and should turn into something more. Meanwhile, the rest of the Charm City Investigations crew involves themselves in a case involving Griffin McCray’s financial advisor and the four friends’ (Griffin, Parker Mitchell from Still Shot, Declan, and Luke) former baseball coach.

Readers will stay up late to find out what happens next—but although some of the mysteries get solved in this book, we’ll have to wait until the final installment to find out what happens with the terrorist cell.

Pettrey does a nice job of keeping the four-book series’ story arc going whilst providing a satisfying who-done-it in each book (along with romance and redemption).

This would be a great movie!

This is book 3 in the Chesapeake Valor series, even though it is a somewhat stand a lone book you will miss a lot of the history and understanding by just jumping in with this one. Plus the entire series is amazing. So start with Cold Shot, then Still Life (the entire series just makes for better reading and understanding if read in order). If you are not one to like books that lead into another you may not like this one. But if you love Suspense, Mystery, handsome detective/marshals/PI etc... type books you will love this one.

I fell in love with Declan Gray, and Griff, from book one and I love how all the characters are involved in the entire series. This novel focus is on Declan and Tanner. Their hunt for justice and maybe love.

I hated the book coming to an end, yet can't wait of the next one to come out. Dani Pettrey always does a great job at keeping your interest with just enough action, drama, mystery, humor and romance.

I really enjoyed this book but it ended too fast. I wanted more answers. I did like the characters and the mystery grabbed me from page one. I will be watching for more of her books

Blind spot is a great intensive story. You have bullets flying and kissing planting. You have Declan finally tells his path and so does Tanner, so you find out why they are as good as they are. This book is intense, addictive, aggressive, combative, dangerous, erratic, exciting and full of following their faith in GOD. This book gets under your skin and you love it when you're done – you may even hate that it is over.

For readers who love following characters over a series, Blind Spot is a delight because you revisit lead characters from earlier books, while Declan and Tanner take a step into center stage. Theirs is a relationship that has been building with sparks flying in earlier books. Add in a mystery for earlier couples to solve and a terrorist plot that is barreling toward a conclusion and this is a book that romantic suspense readers will thoroughly enjoy. I personally love the way that Dani has set us up for the fourth book. It's going to be a good one!

How to describe Dani Pettrey’s latest Chesapeake Valor novel? Blind Spot is… Fantastic. Thrilling. Suspenseful. Romantic. Surprising. Charming. Dramatic. Intense.

Y’all, I did NOT want this book to end. I turned that last page and was so disappointed that it was over. The next book in this series (Dead Drift) can’t come soon enough!

Blind Spot focuses on Declan Grey, an FBI agent in Baltimore investigating a potential terrorist attack. It intersects with a previous human trafficking case, drawing in veteran crisis counselor Tanner Shaw. And the sparks surely fly when these two partner up – fueled by both romance and gunpowder.

Of course, Declan’s buddies Griffin and Parker play prominent roles in this story, too, along with the rest of the Charm City Investigations crew. I love Dani Pettrey’s books because each series focuses on a tight-knit group, with particular characters highlighted in each book. I love that!

A certain mysterious character finally makes his debut (#nospoilers) in this book, and I just want to know more!! Where has he been? What has he become? Can he ever truly come home again? What secrets is he hiding? I need to know, people. I NEED TO KNOW.

So if you, too, love thrilling inspirational romantic suspense, Blind Spot and the whole Chesapeake Valor series are definitely the books for you. Go ye forth and read, my fellow bookworms!

If you love suspense/mysteries you really need to pick up this series and this book. It is full on and intense. There is never a dull moment and I was fully engaged from beginning to end- almost desperate at times. Eek! So good! I would highly recommend reading these books in order. The characters are all so heavily involved in each book, you will really miss out on knowing them and their backgrounds if you don't read in order. There is also an ongoing sort of missing persons mystery going on throughout the first three books that comes to a head at the end of this book. It would be such a spoiler if you don't read the other books first!

The lives of a group of friends intertwine as do their individual stories within each book in this series. I am amazed with Dani Pettrey and her ability to weave these stories, their plots and characters so seamlessly together.

This book is intense! Did I mention that already?! Ha. It was hard to put down but I had to because I can't read stories like this at night. I'm such a big chicken and I get all worked up. I love sleep too much to risk being scared all night! There are car chases, shooting scenes, detective work, running and hiding. It barely lets you catch your breath before something else happens.

This book is Christian Fiction, or Inspirational Fiction. The characters rely on their faith and trust in God to guide them through difficult situations. It isn't done in a preachy way, just as a seamless part of their lives. I love that about this series.

I can't wait to read the next book!! This book leaves off in a way that just makes you crazy for the next book. Arg! Waiting isn't my favorite. :)

Content: Violence, death, kissing, peril, torture

I fell in love with Dani Pettrey's suspense with her Alaskan series. This newest series is set in Baltimore (well, sort of, these agents do travel) and while they do stand alone, fans won't want to miss the first two books, Cold Shot and Still Life. I am anxiously awaiting the fourth book in this series coming in 2018.

BLIND SPOT is an action-packed suspense that starts with a bang and doesn't stop. Three different cases merge into the pages of this book, making it impossible to put down (unless life makes you).

I didn't think Tanner or Declan would be characters I could relate to, because they are both like super-heroes of sorts. But Ms. Pettrey created them surprisingly real, making them characters I could care for and root for.

For the screamish readers, there are dead bodies. Lots of them. Some rather gruesome scenes and scenarios. But it wasn't creepy.

A great book, definitely worth five stars. I can't wait to read Luke's story coming in 2018

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

Blind Spot continues the mystery of the Chesapeake Valor series, heightening the suspense and deepening the layers of secrets along the way. I think this series is best read in order because it carries forward an ongoing mystery that has to do with a friend and missing person, AND because it continues a terrorism/human trafficking story line that started in book 2.

I am continually impressed with Dani Pettrey’s ability to present a tangled puzzle of clues and hints and solve it a little at a time through the eyes of the characters. With edge-of-your-seat action, this is one book I didn’t want to put down for long! This book has two main threads of riveting mysteries, having Declan and Tanner focus on the terrorism storyline and familiar characters from the previous books (Griffin, Finley, Parker, and Avery) investigating an embezzling scheme that takes a few surprising twists.

While the intertwining investigations are fascinating, I was just as riveted with the puzzle that is Declan and Tanner’s relationship. Having previously “met” these two in the series, finally seeing their perspectives and growing mutual attraction firsthand was a treat. Amidst the action of this story, a wonderful relationship dynamic unfolds between these two as they learn from each other and reveal the secrets of their past (in particular, something I did NOT see coming from Tanner!). This romance, much like the personal faith thread of these characters, is naturally portrayed and serves as an anchor point in all of the drama and motion of the story.

One more thing I’ve really loved about this series as a whole is the differing roles/perspectives each main character has played in “investigating”: in Cold Shot, a park-ranger-turned-detective and a forensic anthropoligist; in Still Life, a crime scene analyst and a photographer; and now, book 3, an FBI agent and FBI crisis counselor. I CANNOT WAIT for book 4, Dead Drift….like I need it now. I have a feeling it will be quite the interesting “Jason Bourne-esque” 🙂 thrill ride!

Thank you to Bethany House Publishers for the complimentary review copy. This is my honest review.

Story Notes

Dani Pettrey brings her readers the third installment of the Chesapeake Valor series that will have them holding their breath and staying up way to late to finish the book.

Dani Pettrey has very quickly made a name for herself with her deductive writing and well developed characters. She has also become a favorite of mine as I enjoy authors that make allow me to puzzle out the details of the crime case as the story unfolds. Her Chesapeake Valor series is one that allows each book to stand alone well enough but also connects to the others with “teaser” details that entice you to read the next story. I have been waiting to hear the back stories of Declan Grey and Tanner Shaw and was so pleased to see that Ms. Pettrey chose to tell their stories next. Declan is a special agent with the FBI and has been on the trail of a terrorist cell that is slowly growing in Baltimore. Having recently found, and unfortunately killed, a member of this cell, Declan is searching for the meaning behind the man’s dying words “the wrath is coming”. As he looks for the connections between what is happening in his city and Houston, Texas, Declan will also find himself in the middle of a serial killer case that may have connections to his friend Griffin’s sister who was murdered years before. Tanner Shaw is the newest crisis counselor for the FBI and is hoping to solve the mystery of human trafficking that is plaguing Baltimore. Knowing a victim of the trafficking ring who has been placed in a safe house who may also know the names of men in the terrorist cell Declan is tracking, Tanner agrees to go with him to question her friend. But their visit quickly turns to tragedy as masked men break into the safe house and kill Tanner’s friend before attempting to take out Tanner and Declan as well. Tanner’s skill with a gun surprises Declan as she has kept her background very quiet, but no one shoots with that precise skill without excellent training. As Tanner begins to share her story, Declan will begin to see what drives her to be the best crisis counselor she can be – to bring a measure of strength and peace to those who have been through the unthinkable. But it will take all their knowledge and deductive skill to figure out what is the terrorist cell is planning soon, and how it relates to the death of an FBI agent based in Houston. Griffin McCray, Declan’s long-time friend is handed a devastating case as the sub-plot of this story – the murder of their well-loved mentor and Pee-Wee baseball coach Haywood Grant. Griffin, his wife Finley, and his friends Parker, Avery and Kate all came to enjoy the annual Hunt retreat and find themselves in the middle of a complicated murder investigation. Haywood had approached Griffin about someone embezzling funds from his clients and hoped Griffin would be able to help him figure it out. Griffin agreed to do so and called on his friends and wife to help discover the culprit at the retreat. But as they are just about to find an answer, Haywood is discovered dead in his hotel room of apparent suicide – with a note that also accuses him of killing two of his clients: Elizabeth and John Markum. Knowing this tragedy offers an impossible reality, Griffin and the others will set about figuring out who killed Haywood and what has happened to the Markums. The conclusion of this case is so very well done that I will not spoil it for others, but suffice to say that it would be a brilliant way to go about killing. I was completely fascinated with this story and was really quite grumpy about having to put it down to eat and go to work the two days it took me to read it. Ms. Pettrey weaves a wonderful romance and a lifestyle of faith into her stories that gives them greater depth and sense of reality. Her characters think, act and speak as would any real persons belonging to the law enforcement field and their ability to solve the crimes they are presented with show capability without being unrealistic in timing. Its always hard to really like a book in which the law enforcement persons solve a complex crime in two weeks, that is not reality and makes it hard for me as a reader to connect to a story. Ms. Pettrey gives good pacing to her stories that do not follow that expedited track and this will certainly allow her to gain a greater following of readers. I am very much looking forward to the next book in this series which will finally be telling Luke and Kate’s story – one that has been often hinted at throughout the other books. I am soon planning to add hard copies of this book to my and my friend’s collections and will most certainly be recommending it to others. Hopefully her next book will be out very soon…….it’s always so hard to wait for the conclusion of such an epic series.

I received this E-Book free of charge from Bethany House Publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest and fair review. I will receive no fiscal compensation from either company for this review.

I didn’t realize this was a third book in a series when I started reading it. I recognized most of the characters from having read the first book a long time ago, but felt lost. And I was confused about why the author kept switching back and forth between two very unrelated cases. Apparently that was just a way for her to get all of her characters in one story. It would have been much more enjoyable to have two separate stories. I was also put off at times by dialogue that didn’t flow.

That said, when the focus was mostly on Declan and Tanner’s case, the story got pretty intense, and the intensity kept me reading.

Like the first book I read in this series, faith plays an important part for the main characters and there is time out for their prayers.

I was intrigued by the Luke angle, and that actually has me interested to read the next book (assuming it’s about him).

Blind Spot is the third novel in Dani Pettrey's Chesapeake Valor series, and the first thing you need to know is that it absolutely does not stand alone. Sure, you could read and enjoy it, but you'd probably be pretty confused about who was who for a while, and one of the two main plot threads is directly continued from Still Life. So if you haven't read Cold Shot and Still Life yet, do yourself a favor and pick those up before you dive into Blind Spot!

I really liked Cold Shot, and I enjoyed Still Life, but Blind Spot is on another level. It continues the terrorist plot started in Still Life, so check out Still Life if you haven’t already read it. Then there's a side mystery involving a financial planner connected to the characters. With so many plot threads, the story could become confusing, but I had no trouble keeping track of everything.

The main romance between Declan and Tanner was set up in Still Life, and it was nice to see that paid off in this novel. Tanner ended up being a much more interesting character than I'd anticipated, and I'd love to learn even more of her story. As for the suspense, I felt like this was just as suspenseful as Still Life, though not as dark.

Okay, it took me a long time to even want to start this book. I enjoyed the other books in the series (especially the one right before this Still Life) but I read them so long ago I couldn't remember them, and well, I think the cover is ugly. Plus, when I started the story the prologue didn't pull me in and I put the book down for a week or so. However, once I got into the story and remembered the characters I was hooked.

I always liked Declan in the other books, so I was glad that he got his own story. I'm a little disappointed Griffith got a lot of time in this book though. I'm all for bringing in all the characters and even having the next books main characters have a showing (which they do in this book, and wow...super excited for the next book. Super excited!) but I hate having past characters play a big role, especially since the case he was working on wasn't exactly pertinent to this story. I guess she needed a way to get all the characters in the story sort of working together, but every time the point of view switched to Griffith I was slightly annoyed.

I would not suggest reading this if you haven't read the others in the series. The story might make sense, but having the whole story behind all the characters would be super helpful. Especially concerning Luke.

Speaking of Luke, cliff-hanger ending! Ahhh, the suspense is killing me. When is his book supposed to come out? Ya, really can't wait to finish this off with his story. I was totally taken in by this story and had a hard time putting it down to go to sleep.

Book 3 of Dani Pettrey’s Chesapeake Valor series takes up where Still Life left off. FBI agent Declan Grey knows there’s a threat to his country. What he doesn’t know is where the enemy will strike next. When his best clue leads him to the immigrant community, he turns to Tanner Shaw for help. With her contacts from her last position at the Intercultural Resource Center, Tanner has an “in” with the immigrants in Baltimore. As the new FBI crisis counselor, Tanner is assigned to be Declan’s temporary partner. Already half in love with her, Declan is pretty sure it won’t take much to tip him over that edge. When their first informant is assassinated right in front of them, can Declan and Tanner continue to uncover the clues they need to stop the terrorist attack they know is coming? As they work together, will their love blossom and grow even as killers follow their progress on the case?
Griffin McCray and Parker Mitchell both make appearances in book 3. Griffin’s story line investigates the suicide (or was it murder) of their mentor, Haywood Grant. Parker steps in to do forensics on both Declan’s and Griffin’s investigations. Finley, now married to Griffin, and Avery, engaged to Parker, also play significant roles here. Seeing them working together on these cases was like watching a well-oiled machine. Each person has their role and fills it exceptionally well.
Weaved throughout the story is all of the main characters’ strong faith in God. They pray about everything, giving God first place in their lives. Their friendship is strong and enduring as well. In many ways, they are a band of brothers who have each other’s back. They count on each other to be the very best people to call on in every situation.
I don’t know how long it will be until Luke’s story hits the shelves but I do know it can’t come soon enough! I’ve read all 3 books in the series and since each one builds on the story before, I don’t recommend reading them out of order. Start with Cold Shot, move on to Still Life and continue with Blind Spot. I like how the series has an overall story and each book has a separate mystery to solve. If you love romantic suspense, you won’t be sorry you picked these up!

Blind Spot is book three in the Chesapeake Valor series and it’s a great addition to the group. Dani Pettrey has a talent for incorporating multiple storylines and weaving them into a strong, suspenseful plot with relatable characters. I loved Declan Grey and his intelligent, controlled manner. The romance between he and Tanner Shaw built to a place where you couldn’t help but cheer them on.
I especially loved the mystery of the suicide / murder case. But my favorite character was Luke and I can’t wait for him to take us into book four. At least, I hope he does! The man deserves a happy ending.
I enjoy Dani Pettrey’s writing and find myself whipping through her books fast while thoroughly engaged in the story the entire time.
Book Four can’t arrive soon enough! I give Blind Spot five out of five stars. A great read with action, suspense and romance.

The long awaited next book in Pettrey's latest series does not disappoint! Romance and suspense fill the pages with a mystery that is hard to put down, Highly recommend!!

In what might just be the best book in this series, Blind Spot by Dani Pettrey kept me turning the pages in a book I couldn’t put down!

FBI agent Declan Grey is in the chase of his life, but he isn’t exactly sure what he is chasing. A terrorist threatens that "the wrath is coming" and Declan is afraid that something bad is going to happen on American soil.

From the opening page I was instantly hooked on this story. The prologue opens with Luke, who has been missing since the first book in the series. He is spying on something and overhears references about his childhood friend, Declan, who is working on a case in Baltimore.

Declan’s investigation leads him to a closed immigrant community. He ends up working with Tanner Shaw, who previously butted heads with Declan in past books. There is romantic interest between the two, but the case at hand doesn’t allow much time for romance.

There are many twists and turns which kept me turning the pages as Declan and Tanner dodged bullets, tried to swim for safety, and tried to hide from potential terrorists. I enjoyed the pairing of Declan and Tanner and getting to learn more about Tanner and her past.

This might just be my favorite book in this series! I was hooked from the first page and the suspense and mystery kept me engaged in the story. I found the characters to be developed well, which allowed me to feel their emotions through the story. After reading Blind Spot, I’m really anticipating the next one in the series!

When reading a Dani Pettrey book ,you know what you are going to get: a thrilling suspense story with a romance that is destined to take place. Blind Spot is spot in keeping with the formula that Pettrey’s fans have come to love.

When FBI Agent Declan Gray is caught up in a case that has him hunting terrorists, he isn’t sure what his next step should be. He knows something horrible is about to come. His investigation leads him to Tanner Shaw and the immigrant community she has been working with. Tanner is now with the FBI as a crisis counselor and knows she is bound to butt heads with Declan. Even though they fight and have trouble getting along, there is a spark between the two of them that can’t be denied. They have to set their personal feelings aside and focus on the looming terrorist attack and try and save the thousands of lives that could be affected by what is to come.

While this is the third book I the Chesapeake Valor series, it can easily be read on its own. It might be helpful if you have read the first two before starting this one for some background on a few of the characters but isn’t fully necessary. The relationship between Declan and Tanner develops quickly from them butting heads to seeing an obvious attraction. I like the way they came together but felt at times a few things were forced, Declan tended to call her “Honey” far too often and far too soon in the relationship. I have seen that in a lot of books recently. If a relationship is going to develop it needs to happen naturally and without terms of endearment when they aren’t warranted. That is one of my only issues I had while reading. The writing is tight with the tension at the right places and the story leaving the ending open just enough to leave the readers thirsting for more with the next book to come. I recommend this book for readers that enjoy a good Christian romance with just the right amount of suspense sprinkled in throughout to keep the story flowing at nice pace.

I am reviewing a copy of Blind Spot through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:

Declan Grey is an FBI agent in the chase of his life, but he isn’t sure exactly who he is chasing. All he knows is he is being threatened by a terrorist who warns of an impending wrath. Grey fears that something horrible is going to be unleashed on the American Soil.

Tanner Shaw has worked with Sex Victims in the Global Justice Mission and has now joined the FBI as a crisis counselor. She now has more oppurtunties to butt heads with Declan, but beneath the tensions include a spark that she cannot deny and she’s almost certain Declan feels the same way. But before anything can develop between Declan and Tanner they discover the evidence of a terror cell, and soon are in a race to save thousands of lives, from the “Wrath” of terrorists!

I give Blind Spot five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Blind Spot by Dani Pettrey is book 3 in the Chesapeake Valor series. This book focuses more on FBI agent Declan Grey and counselor Tanner Shaw. Declan is trying to prevent an act of terrorism that he knows is imminent. When his investigation turns to a community of immigrants and involves human trafficking, Declan joins forces with Tanner. Simultaneously, FBI agent Griffen is looking into a mysterious murder of his childhood coach. The stories intertwine as the book speeds to an exciting conclusion. This was the first book that I read in this series, and I still really enjoyed it. I think reading it as part of the series would be even better. Regardless, you will not want to have to wait until book 4 comes out! I would highly recommend this book because it was a great read, had well developed characters, and had a story line that kept accelerating but was still believable at all times. I can’t wait to read other books by this author! I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
