Such a poignant story that crosses many cultural boundaries and prejudices. It was a wonderful reminder that God sees us as his creation and made us all so unique. We need to learn as the characters did to stand in our uniqueness against the world

I love seeing a new book, a new series by Jerry Eicher. And Silvia's Rose seemed like such a different story line by him. Silvia's Rose really gives readers a look at the Amish in a way that shows they are no different from anyone else in their desire to feel loved and special to a particular person. The story of Esther and Isaiah's courtship is an interesting one, in that Esther clearly moved with her daughter to the Adirondack valley in order to eventually marry Isaiah- he is widowed as is Esther. Even though their courtship starts out as "practical", they start discovering very deep feelings for each other, feelings that show second love can be just as beautiful or even more so in different ways than first love.
Esther is very well received by everyone in her new community, considered a blessing by all. Her special friendship with Joseph causes Isaiah some concern, though Esther is mainly trying to find ways to bring Arlene together with dreamy Joseph who is also widowed and raising his young son. Joseph is also secretly pursuing a tribute to his late wife, a tribute that could put his standing with the Amish in jeopardy.
Jerry Eicher always does a great job of creating characters with a lot of depth, and Silvia's Rose is no exception. I strongly recommend it!

Silvia's Rose by Jerry Eicher. Esther and her daughter move to a new community, hoping for new memories. Having lost her husband, a marriage of convience, but a good one. Meeting Isiah, he tells her welcome, that the community is a happy one. Meeting her neighbor Joseph, as he tends his roses and tells stories of the love he had for his late wife. Fills Esther with dreams, and hope's for a love she had never known. Will either of these try for Esther's hand, or will they be only dreams. A good story for all to read and enjoy, as all of Jerry's are. Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
