Wolves of Winter is a fantastic read full of adventure, hard characters and a mystery that keeps you reading and reading, until you notice that you've arrived at the last page. I enjoyed the directness and funny sarcasm with which we realize that the world is much more crooked than we thought and that a new era begins in which human might not have a place after all.
Go with Gwen on the adventure of a life time, go out there and survive in the wilderness, kill, hunt.. do whatever it takes to survive and not go crazy from the whiteness of the snow, the government who hunts you or your hormones...
Extremely fascinating book and interesting to everybody who wants to read a funny story about a dangerous girl in an even more dangerous world. Gwen tells her story of an apocalypse, of family, mysteries and a secret that has been kept for decades.

Classic woman vs nature vs bad people story. Despite the slightly unoriginal premise, this is quite an enjoyable read.

What it does right:
Good characters (mostly) that are well developed and believable.
Excellent pacing; I never felt like the story slowed down or reached any point of insignificance.
Setting and premise; tried and tested but always good if you are into it.

Some criticisms:
Lack of true antagonist. [Immunity serve as an overarching group of villains but without any true figurehead. There was a single named character who attempted to serve this purpose but he was largely forgettable and didn't help the story. (hide spoiler)]
I feel like the character of Jax was somewhat insignificant. [ I don't feel like the superpower element added to the story and just strained my suspension of disbelief to far. The romantic element was also not necessary. (hide spoiler)]

Despite some criticisms, it was well written and fun to read. If there was a sequel, I would happily pick it up.

The title of this book was the first part that drew me in, and then, of course, the summary. It was really interesting for me when I first requested this book because the cover had yet to be released, and then when I was given the digit copy, I got to finally see the cover and it was beautiful and went along with the title really well. As for the plot, it was a little slow-going at first, but I really enjoyed seeing the tough parts of living out in the harsh, icy weather of the north, along with the struggles of surviving when the world is against you. Our protagonist Lynn was one of my favorites despite making some stupid, immature decisions here and there. Her actions always made sense to me, and that is probably because she was one of the most layered characters of the novel. There were flashbacks here and there, alongside background details that never confused me or bored me because I wanted to know more about Lynn and everyone else. Unfortunately, some of the characters seemed to lack the same attention, which makes sense because they aren't the protagonist, but they seemed important enough that they deserved a couple of more layers than they got. Once the plot sped up in this beautiful but harsh tundra, I was completely sucked in and never wanted to put the novel down. I had to know what happened next, and even right up to the end, I was left wanting more and am really excited to see where this will go next. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good, sort of dystopian novel in the expansive north among the wolves.

Very good take on the dystopian/post-apocalyptic survival novel.

Solid debut. I'll preface this with saying I didn't love it, but I really enjoyed bits and pieces of it. The writing wasn't anything amazing and I think I had a hard time relating to main character of Lynn, but something about this book had me. I think the pacing was spot on! I'd definetly read something by this author again.

Thanks to NetGalley and Scribners for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. There is a lot of like here - quite a spin on the traditional apocalyptic story with world-changing events coming from all directions. The writing is solid if not stellar but the characterizations are a little weak and parts of the story we have seen before - particularly a bow-wielding heroine. Still, the pacing is quick and keeps the reader engaged. Not my favorite but far above the worst.
