It's quite an interesting read. I loved both Jeremy and Eliza, they're well suited for each other. Jeremy is tired of being judged because of his family's history. He is obsessed to right every wrong his predecessor committed. And in last ten years he has succeeded in doing so. Now all he needs is to pay back one last debt and then he will feel the weight of the world lifted from his shoulders, or at least that's what he thinks. Unfortunately, and very oddly, the person he needs to pay back to refuses any payment. He is at a loss as to what he can do to get rid of his uncle's final debt. Unwitting he mentioned that he will do anything..... now he must marry a woman he has never met, doesn't even know her name, but still he is willing to go through with this marriage. After all he is going to need an heir, and he needs a wife...
Eliza can't believe Lord Jeremy agreed to her mother's crazy scheme to marry her cousin. Not that he looks like a bad person, but her cousin loves someone else. And one should not marry for anything but love. She is going to make sure that her cousin gets the love match she wants. So now its up to her to convince Lord Jeremy that marrying her cousin, whose heart belongs to another, is a wrong thing to do. Unfortunately it seems that his Lordship doesn't believe in love. He has no regard for her cousin's feelings, and just to pay some old debt he is willing to enter what will be a very unhappy marriage. She despises the man for being so heartless. In any case the only thing left to do is that she takes her cousin's place as his wife....
Will they be able to make this marriage work? Or is their union doomed from the start. Both resent each other, and yet both are willing to do their duty... one in fear of scandal his family can't withstand and the other as a penance for her deception...
All in all it is a fun read. I enjoyed it and would recommend to any historical fiction fan who don't mind contrived plots, twists of events, unlikely couples, humor, romance, and a little bit of intrigue.

I have promised to give a fair and honest review for this ARC. I wish I could review this book more enthusiastically but to my mind, it lacked a flow and fire. There just seemed, to me, to be too much missing.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I just couldn't love this. Eliza made me angry. She tricks a man into marriage and then gets mad at him when he confornts her. I mean it was just nuts. her reasoning just didn't make any sense. I didn't like that the Earl was made to be a bad guy but he had valid reasons to be angry. Not a huge fan.

This author is new to me, and her writing is not bad as such, and especially the first chapter hooked me in. Unfortunately, the premise of the book just did not convince me with the hero's dogged determination to repay his predecessor's debts at all cost including marry a woman sight unseen and the heroine sacrificing herself at the altar so to speak in place of her cousin (the intended bride to be who loved someone else). Her animosity towards him from the start did not make much sense, knowing that his intentions was just to make amends for perceived past wrongs. She continued her wrath towards him after their marital vows, even though she was the guilty party who deceived him into marrying her, when all he was guilty of was being a bit obsessive about righting prior misdeeds. Oh, and the hero seems also to have an issue with frequent intrusive sexual fantasies during random and unprovoked moments, but the heroine wasn't to know that. Despite all his intentions and wants, these were never actually matched by his actions and achievements. The hero was often impotent and ineffectual, too many internal dialogues of what he should have done instead of what he did. Always half a step behind, a second too late. And when he finally did the deed with her and consummated the marriage, it was a one-sided, self-pleasing event even though she had just opened up to him about her traumatic past. And one last gripe - WTH is it with referring to the dog as "she" then "he" then "she" in the narration. It's a bloody male dog, and the fact, that the heroine insists on calling it Daisy and denying it's gender, does not negate the objective obvious that it is still male.

This author was new to me but I read the description and thought it sounded awesome! I love stories where the hero and heroine are sort of forced to wed and then find they're way into love. This wasn't exactly that but it was still pretty great.

I liked Eliza a lot. Her mom isn't really awesome. She's actually pretty mean. Eliza loves her, of course. Even better, Eliza knows how to handle her mom so her meanness doesn't really get to Eliza. But when Eliza's mom threatens to ruin the happiness of Eliza's cousin, Eliza steps in a makes a bold move. I loved that Eliza was happy to make a sacrifice for her cousin. It was so selfless and such a pure thing to do. It was almost impossible to NOT like Eliza! But as the story progressed, Eliza has a secret that she needs to tell the hero. She had so many opportunities to tell him - he even asked her what secret she was hiding - and she couldn't do it. I have to say that it got old really, really fast and it ended up making me like her a lot less. It just ended up feeling ridiculous.

Jeremy, the hero, was pretty great. He just inherited the earldom but the uncle he inherited it from was a drunk and a gambler so there's essentially no money and there's a ton of debt. Jeremy spent the last 10 years, working his butt off to get the estate fixed up and to pay off every single one of the old earl's debts. I loved that Jeremy was such a hard worker and that it was so important to him to make the family name respectable again. After so many years of hard work though, it felt like he had no idea how to relax and enjoy the fruits of his labor. Plus, he was so averse to scandal that he acted a little like an old man! LOL! So he was occasionally a stick in the mud but I couldn't be mad at him!

I enjoyed this book but I felt like the description was a teensy bit misleading. See, the description just says that Eliza and Jeremy aren't destined for love or happiness. What it doesn't say was that Jeremy had no idea who he was actually marrying. He thought he was supposed to be marrying Eliza's cousin but ended up marrying Eliza. So, to me, it felt like a mistaken identity kind of romance and I really, really, really don't like those. Plus, it took at least halfway through the book before Jeremy realizes who he married AND he didn't find out from Eliza. So over and over, she has something to tell him and she...just...doesn't. Her chickenshittedness (yes I just made that up) absolutely made me like Eliza and the whole story a lot less. I didn't love this book but I think I'd like to try another entry in the series. I enjoyed the writing and it was paced well but this one wasn't one I loved.

Jeremy was an earl and had been left in deep debt. He only had one more to pay, Lady Rushworth. Eliza, is a sweet unassuming daughter of Lady Rushworth. She will protect her cousin from her mom at all costs. Her mom is not a nice woman.
The characters are so believable and earnest. The descriptions are vivid and help make the characters come to life. The plot is a little complicated and there are a few twists, such as a duel. It flows well and smoothly, and keeps a consistent pace. It keeps you focused on the book which keeps you up late, you can't seem to put it down. I very much enjoyed the story and loved the characters. I liked the way the secondary characters, (Grace and Hetty), stayed by Eliza's side when things got too much for her. I so very highly recommend this unique and engaging story.

To Seduce a Lady's Heart (The Landon Sisters #3)
by Ingrid Hahn
really liked it

A different plot here. I really enjoyed this book. Even though it may need a little work in my opinion on a few things. I actually read this in one sitting. Characters were enjoyable. I like the plot and the way the author has written her book. I would of asked for perhaps a little more life in the writing at times. All in all a good read. One that touches the heart with some of the elements that are in it! I was given this book in return for an honest review. Anna Swedenmom
