This was a super cute friends-to-lovers YA book! It had me literally going 'Aww' at every moment! 10/10 would recommend! |
ahhhh ice sports and romance. This should really be its own genre. Erin Fletcher really does fill this genre very well and her books is very versatile. This is the second book in this series of stand a lone novels, but does have characters from the first book, which I absolutely love. The chemistry between the 2 main characters are undeniable and oh! I just love the writing style. It reads super smoothly and did not take a lot of time. I definitely recommend reading this on a cold day, with a warm blanket and a hot beverage. |
*This book was received via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review* This was a really cute and enjoyable read. I really liked Malina's family particularly her grandma Tutu and I enjoyed reading about the family's Hawiian heritage . Luke was the typical player with a soft spot for his best friend. I do think Malina accepted his past as a player and his past 'relationships' too easily however I was able to overlook this and enjoy the book. I was also glad that Malina had a passion for astronomy. This meant she was a more three dimensional character, with interests besides Luke, rather than a lot of other female character in YA fiction. This also allowed multiple plot lines to run simultaneously; the romance as well as Malina's journey through school and applying for college. The astronomical details included were also quite interesting. Overall, this was a cute and light read about a girl finding her place in the world and the person she wants to spend her life with. |
This was an okay read for me. I enjoyed it, but did not feel it was unique. I've read similar books, so it was a bit predictable for me. |
Book Review- Tied Up in You by Erin Fletcher Malina’s best friend, Jackson, has been gone playing hockey on the national team. She has been focusing on school and her future. When he gets back she is happy to see him realizing she really missed him. Then he kisses her. She is shocked, then confusion sets in. She never thought of him like that before, but now that kiss is all she can think about. She tries to get past it especially since she believes it is one-sided. However, Jackson is shocked that he kissed Malina too. In fact, he never thought of her in that way either. Yet he is also thinking about his best friend in a different light. He is shocked over what he is feeling and tries to dismiss them. However, it is harder to do than he realizes. He becomes distracted and worries about his future in hockey. Malina also becomes distracted with her feelings and Jackson. Her future is in the balance as she prepares for this big scholarship. If they pursue their feelings for each other, nothing will be the same. Their relationship will definitely change. Can they handle that and what they have planned for their futures? I liked this story. Best friends have the chance to make their relationship more. It’s a great storyline as they realize how they feel and decide whether they belong together. It is fun to read as their jealousy takes over. It is so obvious to everyone around that they like each other. They are the clueless ones. Unfortunately, the author has created situations in the story and their lives that piles pressures and high expectations on them. Things get rough when their plans don’t go the way they thought. I like how the author shows that following your dreams may not always be the safe choice but the right one. Malina needed to realize the leap of faith was exactly the way her life needed to go. Jackson knew it and his frustrations were present when he tried to tell her. This story had very realistic situations and reactions. A great read. I loved the characters. I give it a 4 out of 5. |
Thank you for the opportunity to read Tied Up In You; I tried on numerous occassions to complete this book but in the end it was a DNF at 48%. I was unable to connect with the story-line and the characters. I appreciate the opportunity to read and review this title. |
Sweet story with fun characters and a storyline that I definitely wanted to keep reading. I would definitely read more from this author. |
This was an adorably sweet contemporary novel that hit just the right spot. Erin Fletcher did a great job bringing us into the world of Malina and Jackson. That time in your life when the big decisions about the rest of your future are made, and who you want to spend that time with. It’s a daunting task but it’s always better when there are people who have your back. We meet Malina and Jackson, who have been best friends forever but something just clicks and something else seems to form between the two of them. You know what they say it’s very hard for a female and a male to be best friends because there is always one that may feel just slightly more than the other, and when they both do it’s a very magical thing. The two of them are struggling with what will happen next in their lives but they figure things out together, maybe not the easiest way but the best way for them. This book was very fast paced and seemed to move very quickly through the relationship, but if you think about it they’ve been in a relationship for many many years since they’ve known each other since probably elementary school. It went so quickly because they know each other, they didn’t have to go through the whole learning phase of getting to know you and what you do and do not like. They already have that in the bag. So of course when they have a big blow out all the real daggers come out to play. Because they know exactly where to dig. Overall I liked the book, I’m intrigued to see what happened in the first book and I really can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. This is a great read if you want something quick and fun, something that will get your emotions left and right but still simple young contemporary. I really enjoyed all the family moments too and this book had me googling Hawaiian food left and right. Really enjoyed it. |

Well, what can I say? She's done it again. Another swoon-worthy and endearing YA story that sneaked into my chest and wrapped my bruised little heart in glitter and pink cotton candy. Jackson and Malina were adorable, both individually and as a couple, the best-friend-to-lovers trope was pulled off neatly and I loved the little glimpses into Hawaiian culture, too. Again, Fletcher went without the unnecessary addition of angst, miscommunication and painful pasts and still managed to write an engaging and entertaining story that, while it may not be the most original or profound one that has ever been told, kept me engrossed and smiling throughout. After reading and really enjoying book #1 in this series, then experiencing the same with this one, I'll definitely be adding Erin Fletcher to my authors to turn to when in dire need of comfort and fluff. |
A cute story of best friends finally acknowledge the feelings they have because of one accidental kiss! Story is so high school-y and makes me wanna go back to mine. A recommended read for all the youths there! |
What do you do when you accidentally kiss your best friend? You pretend it never happened and then pine over them, obviously. At least that’s how Jackson and Malina handle it when a spooky sound during a scary movie leads to a steamy kitchen kiss when Jackson first gets back from an away trip for hockey. Of course, the fact that Malina jumped back and made Jackson promise never to kiss her again probably didn’t help their budding relationship. Nor did Jackson’s teammate falling for Malina. As in all good friends to more than friends stories, Malina and Jackson are pulled together and thrown apart by forces they can and cannot control. Beneath the romance, though, lies some deeper parental stress and general teenage problems that make the book even more interesting to read. I loved Jackson. We knew him briefly from Erin’s other book and it was nice to see him get his own story line this time around. He was just jerky enough to be believable but also a genuinely nice guy when it all came down to it. Malina was likable enough, but she didn’t strike my fancy as much as Jackson did. What bothered me about this book was the science project. I think there was a little more interference than there should have been here and it frustrated me because of the integrity of a science project. I understand Jackson wanting to help Malina, but I felt he might have gone a little too far with it. At least he didn’t actually finish it for her – that would’ve been a deal breaker for me. I know that this was Malina and Jackson’s story, but I would have loved to see more of their double dates, Krista and Troy (maybe in a future book?!). It would have made for an excellent sub plot that would have added some depth to this story that I think was needed. I liked the drama that Troy added to Malina and Jackson’s lives but Krista definitely deserved more screen time for being so cool. That post double date make out scene, though? I had to fan myself it was so hot. If you’re into steamy kisses, hockey players, and bffs turned bfs, this book is definitely for you. It’s quick, it’s fun, and it’s super cute. Definitely on my recommend list! |

*I received a free ARC via Netgalley* Tied Up in you is a sweet, light YA of sweet friends turned to something more, even though the guy was flirt, and they don't have the time. Him, with hockey, and her, with her college applications. The part I liked the most was her grandma, Tutu, the recurring character of the sweet/stern grandmother and the airy writing and plot. |

I’m a big fan of Erin’s books because they always seem to hit the sweet spot and this was no different. In the opening pages we are introduced to Malina and Jackson, best friends forever. Right away, there is an ease between the two that comes from years of shared memories. Jackson is the master of dating, but no relationships. Malina knows this and loves him anyway. And then, everything changes with a kiss. I seriously enjoyed all the awkwardness and the cuteness of these two best friends to boyfriend/girlfriend. I have a soft spot for stories where couples start out as friends and when well done, it’s the sweetest. This story was well done. Erin writes relationships and characters who are real and relatable. This was a perfect summer read! |
Luke Jackson is on a path he has set for himself. His plan is to play for the teenage national hockey team and then get picked up for the NHL. He needs to stay focus to accomplish this. He is on the road most of the time and doesn’t have time for a relationship. The occasional fling on the road is different from actually committing and trying to have some type of boyfriend girlfriend thing. The only person he is willing to go out of his way for is his best friend, Malina. However, he begins to realize how much he has missed being around her while he’s gone. So an accidental kiss ends up turning all his “so-called’ hockey concentration out the window. Malina is smart (well to me she is). She loves space and astronomy she wants to be an astrophysics, but that isn’t the plan her dad has for her. He wants her to go into a field that she will be able to obtain a job from after college. To help with college she has been working on scholarship after scholarship application. Now she just needs to figure out how to get her STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) project working properly so she could win the scholarship money for school. She has hit a glitch on the project and her mind has been preoccupied with the return of Luke (she and majority of the characters in the book call him Jackson). Now she is trying to juggle school requirements and her “now” awkward relationship with Jackson, ever since that accidental kiss. Malina and Jackson are super cute as best friends and I can see why they finally realized they had stronger feelings for each other besides the platonic kind. When these two fight it is all emotional and passionate. You can feel the tension come off the pages between the two of them. Their fights explode and have positive results from it. The supporting characters, such as Malina’s grandmother and some of Jackson’s team mates are a great addition. I loved the Hawaiian cultural that was added in to show Malian’s heritage. I think this book gives a good balance of romantic store line and family dynamics. I highly recommend this book. Thanks Entangled Crush! It alternates POV’s between Jackson and Malina, not evenly both consistent. The overall story wasn’t very long. It was a quick, fun, read. I give it a 4 overall. |
★ 3.5 hockey stars ★ I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of Tied Up In You provided by Entangled Teen and the author, thank you so much for the reviewing opportunity! Another sweet and fun read by Entangled Teen that centers around friends becoming lovers. Although the story was fairly predictable, it had a few laughs and swoon-worthy moments that will definitely make your heart flutter. Being best friends since young, the easiness in Malina and Jackson's friendship was what made their relationship so believable and real. I loved their banter, Jackson's obsession towards Tutu's food (my favorite character - she's such a wise woman) and Malina's passion in astrophysics, they seemed like people who I'd love to get to know in real life! However, as much as I liked the author's writing and the prospect of a friends-to-lovers romance, I wasn't as convinced about Jackson and Malina as a couple, or specifically, the turning point in which they became a couple. Maybe it's just me, but I thought things just escalated too quickly from the "accidental kiss". Overall, a quick and cute read that I'll recommend to young adult romance lovers! |
When I requested this book, I did not realize that this was the second book in the series. Needless to say, that will not affect my review as it's truly the story in itself that matters. After reading some books that were high fantasy, I really needed something much lighter and less make my head hurt and this did the trick! The plot was well done, and the story moves quickly - really meant to be read in one sitting type book. I loved the characters and the interaction with their families. While I don't quite know how the second book connects to the first one - I do plan on reading it now, and then possibly reading this one again! |
This is one of those books where I raced to the end to find out what happened (great ending, btw) and was then sad that it was over. Part of the fun of this book was the adventure through it! But let's just say this book was amazing enough that I not only bought the other book in the series (about Luke Jackson's hockey teammate, Pierce) but also bought another book by Erin Fletcher. I love the idea of best friends falling in love. And I really enjoyed how much energy Malina and Jackson put into trying to pretend they were still just best friends. And the way they finally tell each other had me laughing out loud (and then quickly covering my mouth and hoping I didn't wake the little ones because it was, after all, 3AM). Amazing story and yet another 5 star review for Entangled publishing! |
