This is the 23rd Krewe of Hunters book and the second with Griffin and Vickie as the main focus. I think they are also in one more. I actually did like the mystery. However, I didn't love the Edgar Allen Poe ghost plot line. I thought it was a little cheesy. Despite that, this was en enjoyable addition to the series.

Wicked Deeds is the 23rd book in Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters books. If you have read the series so far, you will have noticed a pattern of releasing the books in threes and that those three books would build off each other but with different characters from the story. But with this book, Wicked Deeds is the 3rd book to include historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce. This 3 book sub series included the fantastic Dying Breath, Dark Rites and this book, Wicked Deeds. I loved that these 3 books included the same characters. I enjoyed getting to know them more and seeing how they continued their lives and how they were working with the Krewe. That was a welcome change of formula! Although this book was good it was just not as good as Dying Breath and lost the momentum created by the first story. Dying Breath was probably one of the best Heather Graham books I have ever read and it is hard to live up to that!

"Eager to start their life together, historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce take a detour en route to their new home in Virginia and stop for a visit in Baltimore. But their romantic weekend is interrupted when a popular author is found dead in the basement of an Edgar Allan Poe–themed restaurant. Because of the mysterious circumstances surrounding the corpse, the FBI's Krewe of Hunters paranormal team is invited to investigate. As more bizarre deaths occur, Vickie and Griffin are drawn into a case that has disturbing echoes of Poe's great works, bringing the horrors of his fiction to life.

The restaurant is headquarters to scholars and fans, and any of them could be a merciless killer. Except there's also something reaching out from beyond the grave. The late, great Edgar Allan Poe himself is appearing to Vickie in dreams and visions with cryptic information about the murders. Unless they can uncover whose twisted mind is orchestrating the dramatic re-creations, Vickie and Griffin's future as a couple might never begin..."

Poe? Hells yes!

I've long been a fan of the Krewe of Hunters, so I was chuffed to get a copy of this book.
And while I enjoyed it, it was a bit of a quirky departure from what I am used to - perhaps it is because Poe is such a well-known author that his ghostly presence distracted from the mystery at hand.

Still, it was tightly paced, humorous and tense at turns, and I enjoyed it immensely.

Bestselling author Heather Graham began writing her Krewe of Hunters series in 2011, and Wicked Deeds is the 25th installment. The novels are paranormal/romantic thrillers. While the novels are quite well-written, the fact that three or four are released each year should be a clue that they aren’t going to end up being literary classics. However, the series is fun, and for those who like light, fast-moving thrillers, this will be a great series for them to follow.

Wicked Deeds begins with historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce stopping in Baltimore while on a short romantic vacation and getting mixed up in solving a murder that happened at an Edgar Allen Poe themed restaurant. Because the corpse has some strange circumstances surrounding it, the FBI's Krewe of Hunters paranormal team is called in to investigate. Since Griffin is already a member of the Krewe and close by, and Preston is scheduled to join the Krewe shortly, they stay in Baltimore.

Graham has done an excellent job of developing her characters, giving readers the impression that they might be real people. Preston has some interaction with Poe’s ghost during the investigation, and there is palpable building suspense as favorite characters are put in danger and more murders occur. Another plus is that Edgar Allen Poe fans will enjoy reviewing some of the facts from Poe’s life; it seems that Graham does do her research. Even though this is a fictional novel, the background has factual information woven through in which the characters interact, making the novel even more fun.

While Wicked Deeds can be read as a stand-alone novel, readers who enjoy this genre will want to start with the first installment and read them in order.

Rating 3.5 stars

My first reading of this series and I have to say I found it interesting and engaging. It took awhile as I was behind on the main protagonist Griffin and Vicki. Partners in work and in life, they both have the gift of the paranormal. It was a slow start but as the plot developed, I wanted to know how the murders Griffin and Vicki were investigating were related to the death of Edgar Allan Poe.

The ghost of Poe appears to Vicki during the investigation of the murder of two writers that frequented a haunt of all Poe enthusiasts. The death of these writers were bizarre at best and had a Poe twist to them. However, the ghost of Poe knows nothing but is haunted by these murders as it may pertain to his own death and his good name (depending who you talk to).

I loved the spin on this. I am not usually a paranormal genre reader but I enjoyed the spin on this.

A Special Thank You to Harlequin and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Vickie Preston and Griffin Pryce return in for a third time in this book, following their reacquaintance in Dying Breath and collaboration in Dark Rites. But while those two Krewe of Hunter books took place in Boston, Massachusetts, Wicked Deeds has our couple heading to the Washington D.C./northern Virginia area. (No spoilers for those who didn’t read the first two Vickie & Griffin stories; this can stand alone, but the preceding books are very good and set the stage, so to speak, for this one.) Stopping in Baltimore for the weekend, Vickie and Griffin are drawn into the investigation of a popular local author. Soon the “Krewe” is on the job, trying to discover who is committing murders echoing Poe’s literary works.

The main reason I read this series by Ms.Graham is that I love the way the paranormal gets woven into the story and the “Krewe”s”mission. With the legend and ghost of Edgar Allan Poe lurking around, this book nerd and Poe fan loved that the plot revolved around Baltimore and Poe’s backstory. I truly did not mind the history lessons built into what was a decent and fairly well-written suspense book. I find that the writing in Ms. Graham’s books can be very uneven, but here it flowed fairly well. Although I normally like a different protagonist(s) in each book, this trilogy within the series worked for me and I was still very engaged in Vickie and Griffin’s story. Enjoyable read!

This was my first Heather Graham novel, and I was so shocked that it had taken me this long to read a novel of hers. Wicked Deeds may be the 23rd novel in an ongoing paranormal investigators series- but it felt rich and exciting! Vickie and Griffen have an awesome chemistry that I am eager to delve into the back catalog of this series. What a treasure I've come across.

This is the latest in the Krewe books, and while I love them, I don't care too much for the ones like this in which the couple has already had their "romance". It was a good story, just not what I would necessarily call a romance.

Another Krewe of Hunters book and as usual it doesn't disappoint. Heather Graham has a way of writing a paranormal, historical, romance, like no other. Always enjoyable and just the right mix.

“Wicked Deeds” is the 23rd (!!) book in the Krewe of Hunters series by Heather Graham. And Graham certainly hasn’t lost her touch, bringing fun and creepiness to this latest take, which is centered on Edgar Allan Poe.

Of note: this book can be read as a stand-alone (maybe after reading just a bit about what the “Krewe” is so you’re up-to-date.

After stopping for a brief stay in Baltimore, Griffin and Vickie, who is about to enroll in the FBI academy, get tangled in a mystery when a writer is found dead in the basement of a Poe-themed restaurant, in a very Poe-sequence way. At the same time, Vickie is having nightmares about the mysterious death of the famous writer, and wonders if what happened all those years ago is tied to current events, as the body count rises.

I loved the Poe tie-in, it gave it a very creepy vibe and a nice twist on the murder mystery. Plus adds a nice historical mystery to the mix. Hey, it might not be exactly what happened, but it’s fun to think about.

I just wish the ending had been better explained. It was over very quickly. I would have liked the see a little bit more of the hows and the whys - it wasn’t very obvious to me after having read it. That took away a little bit of it for me.

Overall, this book is a light, fun read. If you’re a fan of Poe, or just paranormal mysteries, you’ll enjoy this book.

Following on the heels of Dark Rites, Wicked Deeds features Vickie and Griffin. Whilst this could be read as a standalone, it would be better to read Dark Rites first. It seems murders follow them around. On a little rest and relaxation, Vickie and Griffin trip over a dead body. With their background, they quickly become entangled with this murder case. Especially as Vickie keeps seeing what she believes is Edgar Allan Poe's ghost.

This story once again weaves back and forth between past and present. It can be a bit disorienting for a reader. I quickly got into it and enjoyed the little pieces of speculation Ms. Graham makes about Edgar Allan Poe. As a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe, this reinterpretation of historic events is fascinating to me. Is shows the creativity as well as the research Ms. Graham goes through to create a complex world with hidden meanings behind many actions. I love it. This story gives me more of a X-files vibe although neither Vickie nor Griffin are skeptical like agent Moulder.

This book moves at a nice pace with intensity in the right places to keep a reader's attention. The romantic element between Vickie and Griffin take a back seat to the mystery. I actually like this because it makes the book more interesting to me. It is more plot focused than romance focused. The romance is a nice touch because it softness the characters and creates a better dynamic between the two. This paranormal romance is recommended for X-file lovers who also loved Poe.

This book started out slow...very slow. However I eventually got into it and was glad that I kept with it.

Of course, I’ve heard of Poe, heard some of his poems, and can even imagine his profile. But, I had never read him. Alas, I learned a lot about him in this book as he appeared to Griffin and Vickie, the latter being a new member to the Krewe team. Poe appears to both of them in this story with Vickie being the main person he speaks to.

A member of a group of Poe fans is found dead and that starts the mystery of this book.

I enjoyed reading this book and stayed up late to discover “who did it”. However it doesn’t rank as my favorite from this author.

Entertaining, but slow for me to start.

ICKED DEEDS is the final of the Preston-Pryce trilogy that is part of author Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters series. I enjoy the mystery and history of the Krewe series that this author always supplies. To be honest Poe was not one of my favorite must reads in high school English class but, I found myself actually looking him up after reading this book. It was intriguing how Ms. Graham used the mystery of his death and the name "Reynolds" that he called for in his delirium (per his biography) to give an interesting twist to what might have happened to him those last days of his life.

In this offering, we got to see Vickie more into the agent mode that she plans for her life with Griff. We also got to meet up with Jackson Crowe, his wife Angela and their big boss Adam Harrison, who seemed very pleased with the soon to be a member of the Krewe. There are many interesting characters, a wannabe medium; slightly spoiled rich girl; bookstore owner; Poe enthusiasts, cops and F.B.I and as this is a Krewe book - ghosts. I admit that with this one the "bad guy" came as a surprise, didn't see that twist coming at all.

If you want a mystery, history, a team of people who work together, back each other and a couple who find they can face anything the future offers then WICKED DEEDS is the book you want.

Wicked Deeds, like all the Krewe of Hunters books, is a delightful mix of lots of history and mystery combined with a dash of magic and romance. For the third time historian Vickie Preston and Special Agent Griffin Pryce gets to star a story as they run into a crime while taking a weekend off before their new life starts.
I like Vickie and Griffin, they have a great chemistry, and they are perfect for each other. They compliment the other and have a tangible connection and fierce passion. To say I am bored with them would be wrong, I am not. But I do like the spark of a new romance igniting in the stories and the energy it brings to the tale.
Vickie is always filled with stories from the past, her knowledge is beyond most. But what was the fun and intriguing part for me in the story was the appearance of Edgar Allen Poe as the ghost. I loved the characteristics the author had given him, so fitting. Most of us have wondered at one time or the other how it would be to meet someone from the past, and the way this story is told, it just tickled my mind immensely.
The murder mystery gets intense. It is a tangled web of clues and suspects and like most of the Krewe stories, the past and present interweave with visions and dreams.
This is a good, satisfying story and a wonderful addition to the series. It is not my favorite within the Krewe books, but it is a solid tale of history and mystery

This book is definitely unique from other Krewe of Hunters books from Heather Graham. First, this is third book where Vickie and Griffin are present as the main couple. I really enjoy their characters and appreciate getting to spend more time with them. The other thing that is different with this story is that I laughed several times during this story. From the synopsis, we know that Edgar Allan Poe makes an appearance in this book and his character is really quick-witted and sharp (as one would expect).

One scene stands out to me and it's Vickie and Poe in her car and she calls him a name; for one second, she's horrified and I laughed really hard. It only gets better as the story went on. The reason this really stood out to me that this book still has the trademark history and suspense that readers expect from Heather Graham. The slices of humor added another level to an already great story.

Another factor that stands out in this story is that we get to see Vickie and Griffin's relationship grow deeper, but we also see Vickie's skills in the paranormal strengthen. She hasn't entered the academy yet but she's just getting ready to start in this story. If you've read "Dying Breath" and "Dark Rites", then you'll get to see Vickie grow and develop and that's something I always enjoy in characters. You could still read this story as a standalone, but my honest thoughts are that you'll enjoy this story a lot more if you've read "Dying Breath" first.

The ending of this story is a flurry of activity and I had a lot of respect for the author spinning the ending for the reader. The ending is dramatic but it's also a little different from other Krewe of Hunter books, and again, I appreciated how this author can add slight touches to make the story different, and still stay true to the series and what readers have come to know and love.

If you enjoy reading books about the paranormal, mysteries, or Heather Graham in general, you will love this book. It's incredible to see this author who has been writing for years and years still be able to switch it up and give readers a story like never before.

When a famous author dies under suspicious circumstances in an Edgar Allen Poe themed restaurant the Krewe Of Hunters are called in. The authors death appears to be a suicide but no one saw him enter the restaurant and his wife doesn’t think its a suicide. Historian Vickie Preston and Spec Agent Griffin Price are on the case. Edgar Allen Poe begins to appear in dreams to historian Vickie Preston. Edgar wants to help solve the mystery. When there are more weird deaths they are under pressure to solve the case before the death toll mounts.

This was a good addition to the Krewe Of Hunters series. It could possibly be read as a stand alone, but there is a lot of history with the characters that is in the previous books. This book falls into the paranormal series but it has mystery and history too. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.

This checked so many boxes for me! History, historical mysteries, and ghosts are all things that make me a happy reader and this had all 3 in spades. I really enjoyed all the Poe mentions and it made me realize just how little Poe I've actually read. I'm hoping to correct that!

It was fun to see Vickie and Griffin in action again. They're adjusting to more of a long term relationship and to a change in dynamics as Vickie will be going to the FBI academy and Griffin is trying to treat her more as a partner than someone he needs to protect.

The book is thick with creepy atmosphere between all the Poe related mentions (and Poe himself appearing), creepy wine cellars and evil lurking in the shadows. It made for a thoroughly enjoyable, completely Halloween-y read. My only issue was that at times the actual mystery seemed to fall to the background as I got more wrapped up with everything else. While, like most Krewe books, this can be read as a stand alone I think you'd enjoy it more if you started with the first book Vickie and Griffin are in - Dying Breath.

If you're looking for a book to get in the Halloween mood but are looking for creepy more than horror this is the perfect book! One of my favorite spooky reads so far this year!
