I think LOST IN DECEPTION had an interesting premise, but I struggled with connecting to the characters. I liked the author's voice, and will definitely read her stuff in the future. It was a good book.

Esmeralda Morales, call her Esmeralda at your own risk it's Peach, is a badass private investigator former Air Force staying with her grandfather while she gets stuff sorted in her personal life. She was watching and on the phone with her uncle, a seasoned and expert crane operator, when something went horribly wrong and the whole thing crashed into the frigid lake. Peach has a feeling it wasn't an accident and after over hearing the boss say he's going to lay blame on her uncle Peach starts to investigate on her own and that includes researching the man the Boss hired to investigate, Tom Riley.

Tom Riley is a man of many talents and he knows it, he's recently started a new investigative business to solve problems and his first client wants hims to figure out why and how the crane collapsed the way it did. Tom loves a good mystery but it soon becomes more than what it seems first with Peach, and then someone's attempt on his life. Tom and Peach join forces and resources to get down to the bottom of the sabotage.

Tom and Peach are combustible, from the very start the attraction is there and the more time they spend together the stronger that bond grows but finding out the reason why the sabotage happened isn't what threatens Peach and Tom's relationship, they both have pasts that are getting in the way of their HEA.

Overall, this read suprised me being new to Anita Devito I didn't know what to expect. What I got was a massive mystery with plenty of action and romance and some pretty steamy scenes between Tom and Peach and quite a bit of humorous things go on. This book has everything I look for in a romantic suspense. I hope there are more to come because I will definitely read them as well as go back and read the first two.

Review by Amanda for Love Romance Books Blog

I was asked by the author for an honest review.

I would like to have given Lost in Deception 4.5 stars.

Many of the events in the story seemed far-fetched, but it was still an entertaining book and I enjoyed it. I haven't read any other books from this series yet, but I am planning to go back and read them now.

You don't have to have read any other books in this series to enjoy this one, though I suspect there are some spoilers in here for the other books if you haven't read them yet.

Please note: I received a copy of LOST IN DECEPTION from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher and author.

FIVE STARS! Here’s why:

Anita DeVito wrote a sassy and smart romantic suspense that kept me turning the pages until the very end! Peach is a private investigator who will go to extremes to clear her uncle’s name from a tragic crane accident at a construction site. She hooks up, literally, with Tom – the engineer hired by the construction company’s owner to solve what really happened to his crew and construction site. When these two characters hook up, chaos ensues and the plot thickens as they unravel the mystery of what really happened that day.

I love a smartly written romantic suspense that keeps me guessing and turning the pages until the very end. Ms. DeVito wrote one heck of a story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and you will too. I will definitely read more by this author. Highly recommend!

Esmeralda (Peach), a private investigator, is devastated as she watches the crane her uncle is operating tip over, sending it and her uncle into Lake Erie. She just knows all the blame will be placed on him, and that's something she will not allow to happen. Her plan? She'll seduce the lead investigator, thereby allowing her to be close to him as he uncovers information. Yes, that's why she's doing it...man, she can't even really convince herself that's her sole reason.

Thomas, a forensic investigator, believes sabotage is responsible for the crane incident, but, as he digs further, he's beginning to suspect sorting through all the lies and deception surrounding the case. He's definitely intrigued by the beautiful woman seemingly in the center of it all, or at least always caught in it, and that's not solely for professional reasons.

Tom and Peach are both independent, used to working on their own, and not exactly the same, personality wise. However, their greatest chance of uncovering the truth behind the accident may lie in them working together. As they spend more time together though, their intense chemistry is hard to ignore and they begin to realize they just may perfectly complement each other...in numerous ways. But the biggest threats to their happiness may not be their differences, nor the case they're working on together, it may be their pasts and the issues that still haunt them because of it.

Can Tom and Peach discover who's behind everything? Are they safe while they investigate? Can Tom and Peach both let go of their past hurts and risk their hearts? What happens when Tom learns of Peach's initial reason for getting close to him? Will he understand her reasoning? Or will their relationship end before truly getting a chance to start? Can they still have a HEA?

One-click now and follow along as two people, though brought together under false pretenses initially, discover a love that will overcome all doubts.

To say I had issues with this book is an understatement. I liked the idea of the story with the sabotage and embezzlement, also the forensic engineering investigation and sleuthing that followed. Yet somehow the writing style didn't agree with me. The plot ran in every directions and the characters making wth moves that just felt out of context with the story.

I'm known to jump into an ongoing series, be it penned by familiar or new-to-me authors. But I don't think the bafflement was due to this being a third entry in a series I haven't read before. I just had a hard time keeping up with the bumpy sequences and alternate POVs.

Another thing is, I had no beef with humorous situation in stories; only not just for the sake of being funny like what I encountered here. And don't get me started with Peach and Tom's wavering personal issues. All in all, Lost in Deception left me with weird feeling that was... just. Weird.

The story starts with Peach Morales going to give her uncle his lunch. She stops en route, talking to him by phone and watching him operating the huge crane. She videos it to share with her grandfather, not expecting to record the crane toppling over into the near Lake Erie . . . . She knows it isn’t her Uncle’s fault and is determined to put her skills as a private investigator to use to help discover who is and to prove her Uncle innocent . . . .

Thomas Riley is a forensic investigator who is called to investigate the crane crash. Everywhere he turns he keeps meeting Peach . . . . working together could help solve the investigation but, despite their mutual attraction, they’re both stubborn, independent and determined so it certainly won’t be an uneventful collaboration!

This romantic suspense is packed with drama and some very entertaining antics! The author is skilled at balancing the humour, steam, action and mystery to keep readers enthralled from start to finish. Peach is a brilliant character, sassy, feisty and sneaky and her interactions with others are memorable! Tom is the strong silent type but Peach certainly breaks down his barriers! With a wrecked hotel room, fiery encounters and so much more, this is a real page turner that I have no hesitation in highly recommending.

I requested and was given a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion after choosing to read it.

This was the third in the series, and it was enjoyable. This book was about Tom, who was a nerd in a gorgeous packet. Tom was hired by an old friend of the family to investigate an accident, while doing so he meet Peach, an ex military bad ass chick. Peach is also investigating the accident, but she is out to prove that her uncle was not responsible. Tom and Peach are combustible together, Peach was a trip, and we get to read about the rest of the gang, loved them, I can't wait for Noah's next.

Received in exchange for a honest review.

Tom and Peach have pasts that have them want to flee from the idea of love. For Tom he was burned for Peach it is a culmination of many people.

Tom is a strong smart guy who needs someone like Peach to break his barriers. She was smart, sassy and stubborn. She was also independent. She didn’t need someone so if she was with you it was because she wanted to be.

Peach and Tom were both after the same thing when they meant. Finding out the truth behind a horrible accident. An accident that cost lives. There was more behind it. And it comes at a cost. LIves are in danger as more is found out.

the mystery part was incredible. You are truly through twists and turns. You never know what is going to be revealed and it is fascinating. Although Peach and Tom were after the same thing they were going after different aspects and Peach was the one using. Using Tom at first to get what she wants turns to more. Tom has a right to be angry but he isn’t. His mind has admiration and respect for her. He feels betrayed but hopeful. I loved that about him. He took this as a challenge. And it turned into more.

More danger, intrigue and sexy moments. these two together were explosive. they heat up the kindle to an explosive level. They fit together and challenge each other. They help each other put the puzzle together in the mystery but also in love. They support one another and help each other heal. Tom takes a wee bit longer due to fear and stubbornness but he does and it’s amazing when they do.

The story is wonderfully executed and alluring. We have two strong characters challenge one another and fall in love. They deny their feelings until reality crashes in and they face demons. We get romance, heat and danger. A feeling of family and love but also respect and admiration. We see acceptance and letting go to move forward. a great romantic suspense that has you wondering to the end what was the reason and who was behind the accident and also will love win out.

Holy habanero, now that was one hell of a romantic suspense! DeVito splendidly balances the heat, drama, suspense and action with Lost in Deception, bringing this original storyline to life...not to mention it really sets it apart from other reads out there. A must-read!

Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.

LOVED this book! Peach is a sassy and clever private investigator that watches her uncle fall from a crane in a tragic accident. Tom is the engineer called by the company's owner to investigate the accident and determine what happened. Peach begins her investigation by eavesdropping and snooping, leading to some very entertaining scenes....and one totally trashed hotel room. I loved the interactions between Peach and everyone else. She's the type of character you'd love to have as a friend.

This is a smartly written romantic suspense that fans of the genre will love - this one is a must read! I've addd the author to my must read authors' list.
