I have experimented with vegan dishes multiple times because it is easier than finding any random recipe and trying to substitute enough to make it a vegetarian meal( This is when I am trying to find something different to cook). The author introduces the ethical angle initially without trying to be too forceful which is refreshing and makes it a good start.

The book is a good combination of new ideas combined with some familiar  recipes and comes with very delectable pictures. Only time will tell if the food will come out that pretty when I try my hand at them. To the uninformed, the vegan recipes mentioned in the book does not actually just replace 'original' ideas with substitutes but has its fair share of interesting combinations. I do have other vegan cookbooks which emphasise on slightly extravagant concoctions but this one drew a line between normal and fancy.

An excellent addition to the vegan cookbook genre. With a mix of vegan basics, and also more complex recipes, this is suited to both thise interested in trying a few plant based recipes, and those who have embraced it as a lifestyle for sometime.

I am always looking to get away from meat dishes and appreciate cookbooks geared toward a better food lifestyle. While I did not find The Vegan Cookbook as useful as I would have liked, there are still many great recipes here and the book is has a wide variety of dishes from around the world.

The book breaks down as follows: Introduction, The Plant Based Diet, Breakfasts and Brunches, Lunches, Snacks and Treats, Main Meals, Desserts. Recipes are in black and white only, with a box of italicized ingredients list, separate prep time, cook time, and serving amount.

The steps are in small font size, paragraph format that is very hard to read - they aren't numbered and they aren't separated by blocks. Beneath the recipe are some tips/thoughts. Each page is color coded with symbols denoting: soy free, seed free, raw, gluten free, nut free, sugar free - for easy reference.

Most frustrating is that the book has fairly exotic recipes but only half or so actually have images of the recipe. I had no idea how to present the dish or how it should look, which was frustrating. As with most Vegan cooking, the ingredients list is vast and you'll have to track some items down or make them from scratch yourself. Each recipe has a lot of ingredients and I have to admit, I found most to not be very filling. Nor could I interest the children in any of the items I was presenting (though my husband is willing to try anything happily, fortunately). It's definitely not a family friendly book and feels very much like something I would use as a bachelor or a newlywed.

I rated this fairly low (only 3 of 5 stars) for several reasons. One, the book has small type and is hard to use/follow. Two, there aren't enough images for a book of this type. Three, it seems geared more toward singles rather than families. Four, the ingredient list is large and expensive - it feels like something you have to fully commit to or not. And five - this isn't written with the reader in mind and I feel this would have been greatly improved had the author spent time with a larger audience giving feedback. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

A great collection of vegan recipes. For those who have been vegan for a long time and are looking for something new or for those looking to venture in the vegan diet, this is an appealing cookbook for all. Simple yet bold recipes fill these pages, and a quick symbol guide will assist in what type of recipe you're looking at. As more people are looking at plant based diet, I believe this would be a good addition to any cookbook collection.

Some of the recipes were a little too complex for me. Definitely a wide selection of vegan recipes for all pallets. The refined and more complex recipes are perfect for those looking for something than your different run of the mill vegan recipes. This is a great book to have in your vegan cooking collection.

These recipes are not really to my taste. It is difficult to follow on the kindle paperwhite. I can't write a good review, but I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads.

The Vegan Cookbook has a variety of recipes that I found exciting to try. There were several factors to this book that I enjoyed. The introduction was the first thing I liked because I could relate to the author’s journey in terms of being a foodie. As a strict vegetarian, I’ve found it difficult to follow my diet and also thoroughly enjoy food from every cuisine. I liked how McConnell also explains the benefits of eating a plant-based diet without pushing it onto the reader as the ultimate goal. My favorite part of the introduction was the list of health benefits for each ingredient. I also liked the format to this book, and especially the font. It added a light, fun touch to the book.

My only issue was with the photos. The photos are well done but I would’ve like it more if there was an accompanying photo for every recipe, even if it was a small photo on the same page as the recipe itself. Otherwise, the recipes all sound very mouth-watering and I’m excited to try a few out.

I received an ARC ebook copy of this book from NetGalley to review.

Great ideas and ways to eat vegan. Some recipes are tasty and broaden the menu for families. Try something new! Good detail recipes and pictures.

Confession: I'm a lapsed vegan. I turned to a vegan diet when I was trying to lose weight and stabilize my blood sugar levels, and loved it because it broke my culinary world wide open. Before, I was a meat and potatoes girl, with little interest in green veggies. I cooked, but my repertoire was no more than a dozen dishes, all either beef or chicken. After, I was experimenting in the kitchen with diverse dishes from all over the world. It was exciting, and my cooking skills grew exponentially.

Unfortunately, when I was pregnant with my daughter, the vegan diet went right out the window. I had morning, noon, and night sickness for much of the pregnancy, and couldn't eat most vegetables. Almost three years later, I saw this cookbook on Netgalley and realized how much I missed vegan cooking.

Adele McConnell does a wonderful job of crafting accessible recipes without a lot of exotic, hard to find ingredients. I couldn't properly review a cookbook without trying some of the recipes, so I made the roasted afghani chickpeas (yum!) and winter lentil soup (equally delicious!). I fully intend to try some of the desserts, but for the purpose of this review, I ran out of time.

For newbies, vegan cookbooks can be daunting because vegan cooking is presumed to be either tasteless or overly complicated. Here, there is a wonderful introduction to vegan cooking, explaining anything out of the ordinary, highlighting ingredients. My only complaint is that I'd like to see pictures of all the dishes!

I am looking to add more plant based foods in my diet. This is a good book for ideas and inspiration. Some of the recipes seem to have odd combinations but since I haven't tried them, I can't say how they taste. But I like the variety and some of the soup recipes look very good. I will definitely be trying some of these.

This book offers a wide-range of meals that are easy to prepare. My biggest pet peeve when I buy vegan books is that many of the ingredients are not available in Puerto Rican grocery stores, but within these pages I found dozens of recipes that I can prepare--and will be preparing--soon.

The recipes in this book are very health focused, with a lot of raw ingredients and soy alternatives (to avoid phytoestrogens, although this could be very useful for someone with an allergy). The recipes also tend to have a lot of ingredients, a few of them very specialised. This might be what someone else is looking for, but it wasn't quite my cup of tea. However, one big plus is that each recipe is marked as soy-free/seed-free/raw/gluten-free/nut-free/sugar-free with a clear and simple colour code, which would be very handy for cooking for someone with diabetes or allergies.

Whereas so many vegan cookbooks fall prey to vastly overestimating their audience's affluence and access to high-end grocery stores for specialty ingredients, Adele McConnell gets it right with a wonderful collection of recipes that not only serve a variety of tastes and preferences, but whose components can be found mostly with ease and can be made in most kitchens by just about anyone, whether they're a full vegan or if they're someone who just wants a few new recipes to diversify their meal repertoire in a healthy way (this latter category includes the reviewer, who is quite excited to try the chili peanut and coconut soup).

This is a lovely vegan cookbook full of useful information as well as recipes. The best thing is its versatility and the provision of alternatives in the ingredients lists of the recipes. There are a few recipes I would like to try immediately and I would try a few others in the future. The additional information is very useful and the book is well structured and very pleasant to look at. The pictures were lovely however I personally would prefer a picture for every recipe in the book even if it meant they were smaller. Overall a great boo thank you

This book is one of the best vegan cookbooks I have read in a while. It has so many unique recipes which I have never come across before. There is a good mix of different cultural influences, especially from East, South East, and South Asia. I'm South Asian myself and I'm extremely excited to try some of these recipes as I haven't been able to eat some things due to them having dairy in them. I normally read a cookbook cover to cover before trying recipes and see how many I'd actually make or actually be able to make, depending on accessibility to ingredients.

Adele gives ingredient amounts in more than one measurement (which is absolutely helpful for fellow Canadians!) and from what I can see, most ingredients are available to Canadians (especially in Toronto). I'd say there's a good 75% of recipes which I am really looking forward to making! For me personally, if there's at least 50% of recipes I want to make, a cookbook is worth the purchase. I also really appreciated the lack of soy recipes, as lots of vegan cookbooks just use too much soy.

There were only a couple things that I was missing in this book. One was that there didn't seem to be a picture for each recipe. I wish there was! The other thing is that I really wished there were more alternatives for ingredients. More specifically, for a fresh version of something compared to say a paste. One example would be fresh lemongrass versus the paste. It is not the easiest to find fresh lemongrass but when I do, it's in extremely large quantities so I buy paste. I understand fresh is best but it's not always what makes sense. This isn't that big of an issue for me as I usually eyeball amounts for conversions such as these, but it may not work for everyone.

Overall I am very happy with this book. I look forward to purchasing my own copy and trying these recipes. I hope there are more planned cookbooks coming soon!
