A brilliant mystery thriller that was fast paced from beginning to end and I cannot wait to read all the others in this series now.

This was a brilliant read. As soon as I started reading this book I just knew I was going to love it. Highly recommended

Brilliant read. I love this series. I don't want it to end. Great story and characters. 5*.

Dead Jealous is the seventh book already about Calladine and Bayliss, detectives is Leesdon, a small English town with surprisingly high crime rates. A lot is going on once more, multiple cases and it is a rather short read at that. To that is added the personal lives of the detectives and you end up with a packed story that is a very fast read.

I liked this one a bit more than the last couple of books, the case kept me interested and I was curious to find out how it all fit together. Especially Calladine’s personal life, I couldn’t care less about. I don’t like his character and goes around – a different girlfriend every book like he is James Bond or so.

I loved this it was like several stories in one, very fast pace and not boring. Keeps you guessing and I could not put it down, i would recommend to anyone. 5 stars!!

I had not read any of the other books in the series, so thought I might get lost with the characters, but it was so well written I just got lost in the story. Will not be going back to the previous books (if only to find out more about Imogen)

Forensic pathology is a particular interest of mine so this is partly what interested me in reading the book. While it is the 7th in a series it does well as a stand alone.Very well written and good character development.

As is obvious this book is book 7 in a series. Not to worry, they are perfect as standalones.

If you love British thriller mysteries, you will love this book. There are three cases being investigated, but somehow they are all related, even a decades old cold case.

I loved this book, the gritty setting, believable characters and gripping story line makes this a book that cannot be put down.

I was hesitant to read this book as I had not ready of the previous books in the series but I am so glad that I did read it! It was a great story with so many different characters who were all involved in these complex cases. I appreciate that this book was able to stand on its own for people who have not read the previous books and it was nice how explanation was provided for the readers to understand that something had happened in the past books to affect the characters in the current book.

Thoroughly impressive writing! I was totally gripped from the start. This followed on well from the previous title, and kept me gripped throughout, although since there were 3 crimes to solve, and so much going on, that isn't a surprise!

I've had the pleasure of reading the first book in this series some time ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, this current instalment is no disappointment.

The badly decomposed body of a young girl is found in the boot of an abandoned car, new evidence comes to light on missing child from many years ago and a local moneylender is murdered. The team have their work cut out trying to solve all 3 cases whilst grieving for the lost of one of their colleagues.

The plot flows well, and the characters are likeable. I certainly now want to read the previous books in this series. Many thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy of this book.

I didn't immediately start reading this book in fact I think I started it and then came across other books and read them first. I clearly didn't follow my one golden rule, which is, to read at least 3 chapters before making my mind up on a book. Now I wish I had read it much sooner as this book was complex and puzzling, enough so that I was trying to unwind the different strands of the plot while I was washing up but not that much that my brain hurt.
About the plot, A toddler vanishes from her pushchair while out for a walk with her mum, 17 years later and a young girl is found murdered in the trunk of a car.....is there a connection? Honestly read this book it's twisty!

I loved this book! I havent read any other titles by this author but certainly will now. Brilliant storyline, definitely recommend.

I was totally immersed in this book the whole way through. Helen Durrant's characters always seem so real and believable. Detectives Tom Calladine and Ruth Bayliss are trying to solve a murder and are also trying to find out what happened to a baby that disappeared 15 years ago. There are a lot of lies and pain as the twists of the plot are unraveled. A very well written very good read.

Another great addition to the Calladine & Bayliss series. Two current murders and a cold case kidnapping deftly solved with a bit of a twisty ending.

Let me start off by saying that although this is book #7 in the series, you do not have to have read any of the other books in order to understand and enjoy this one. It would be helpful if you have, just so you have an understanding of the teams dynamic, but it's not completely necessary.

This is a series that just keeps getting better and better! It continues to amaze me how each novel comes across as fresh and new, drawing the reader in from the first chapter, and leaving them glued to the pages in order to find out what happens next. Each story in the series is billed as "a gripping crime thriller full of twists" - and it is the pure truth.

In this installment, the author just goes to prove how small the world really is, and how when dealing with people, there is often more than meets the eye. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, the author managed to throw a new curve-ball in that not only went against everything I thought I knew, but that made the story even better.

One thing I have to say is that with so much going on in this novel it would have been all too easy to become over-complex and confusing, however the author handled it in such a way that each thread was beautifully woven in with the others causing the story to flow smoothly.

Overall, I believe this novel will appeal to those who enjoy a story that is gripping crime novels. I would read more from this author!

So this it the first Calladine and Bayliss novel I’ve read which being the seventh one, which was probably not the ideal place to start!

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the characters of Tom Calladine who’s only stable relationship is the one with his partner Ruth Bayliss, who is trying to grapple with motherhood, a distant partner and policing, but I felt like the author assumed every reader had read the last six books before this one and missed a lot of details out. I still am not entirely sure what either detective looks like. I could have also really done with a brief recap or something of what had happened in the previous books.

I did feel like the plot relied a lot on coincidences. For instance, Flora Appleton, the teenager who is murdered at the very beginning of the book), happened to live, with her mother, in the same block of flat as the mother of the missing two year old Jessica Wilkins. How small a town is Leesdon? (There are more examples than that but I don’t want to spoil the plot for anyone reading this.)

Anyway the thing that saved it for me was the author’s writing style. It was so fast paced, I finished the book in around two days (that is fast for me I can tell you!) because I desperately wanted to know who the killers were.

I may have to go back to the beginning and read the first book Dead Wrong.

I love every book Helen has written and this one is no exception. Detective Calladine is back with his colleague and good friend Ruth Bayliss. Part of the series appeal is the interaction between these two. You almost feel like you know them and care about what happens to them. When I read the synopsis I couldn't see how two crimes so far apart could be told in one story. By god though she does it well. From the first page to the very last I was on the edge of my seat. A child goes missing many years ago and when ashes are found the investigation is brought back to life. When a teenagers body is found in the boot of a car they find themselves investigating what happened to her. But nobody will talk. What really happened all those years ago when toddler Jessica went missing. Are they connected? A brilliant well written and fast paced book. Can't wait for the next installment!

Detective Tom Calladine was part of the investigation team of the first murder of 2 years old Jessica Wilkins and this has always haunted him. 17 years on someone finds a pottery urn and a pink baby blanket hidden behind an old fireplace. Inside the Urn were ashes and they are Jessica Wilkins so the old unsolved case of 17 years is reopened. Another murder on the Hobfield estate but this time was vicious moneylender Sean Hopwood who was stabbed to death. Are these murders related?
There are lots of twist and turns in this book. Like all her books in this series it will keep you guessing towards the end.
