Lots of cool stuff in SEPTEMBER BUZZ BOOKS!

There's quite an interesting variety of new books on the way, some I've already read....thanks to NetGalley....but many (Yikes!) that sound good that I haven't.....like CHILD FINDER by Rene Denfeld- a must read, FEVER by Deon Meyer and THE END OF THE WORLD RUNNING CLUB by Adrian J. Walker sounds pretty darn good too!

Not that I needed more books to add to my shelf, but it was fun getting a sneak peak, reading a few good excerpts and overall just checking out BUZZ BOOKS for the first time.

Thank you to NetGalley and Publisher's Lunch for the ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

These monthly roundups are a great help in figuring out what I want to read that's coming up soon, without missing something good. The excerpts are just long enough to give you a taste to decide if the book is for you or not.

This is a great concept where a reader gets "sneak peaks." I got some suggestions to read authors that would not have normally been on my radar..

Once again some interesting titles. I can recommend Good Me, Bad Me by Ali Land, a wonderful debut. A real psychological thriller.

In the Fall/Winter 2017 edition I loved the excerpt from Stay With Me (Ayobami Adebayo). I know, it's not in the September edition but I understand it is to be published in the USA on August 22nd. I missed this when it was available on NetGalley (I live in the UK and it was published in March this year). I was delighted when it became available from my local library as an ebook and I was able to borrow it. I loved it. The story is set in Nigeria. It's an emotional book - heartbreaking, happy, sad, funny - especially when there are family members who expect traditional customs to be maintained and they put a lot of pressure on Yejide and her husband Akin when she doesn't produce the desired grandchild. Heartbreaking but lovely.

September is always a big release month and I'm so glad I have Buzz Books to guide me through it - using the publishing calendar I found several awesome-looking books that slipped past my radar!

I really enjoy these monthly lists. The ones that caught my eye were Robin Sloan's Sourdough, A Semi-Definite List of Worst Nightmares, by Krystal Sutherland, and Right Were You Left Me, by Calla Devlin.

These were interesting!! A few of these were only somewhat interesting and I'll skip writing notes about them, but I will mention my favorites and least favorites here.

➽ I'm now quite excited for Little Fires Everywhere, though I never read Celeste Ng's earlier novel. This one looks amazing!!

➽ I heavily disliked the beginning of Sourdough - something about the writing very much did not click with me. Was;t anticipating it and still won't be.

➽ I liked the beginning to Fever!! It's not a book I was expecting to read, but the beginning was intriguing. Give that one a try if you have the chance.

➽ Of course, I'm desperate for Warcross. Marie Lu's writing has never quite clicked with me, yet her character writing is something particularly special and her books are so fast-paced that it's hard not to love them.

Ahh Buzz books! Where do I start? What can I say that hasn't already been said? All avid readers should be looking for each time these fantastic collections are released. It helps so much with choosing what you would like to read next and quite frankly - There is no other resource like it. Miss it and miss out!

Thank you for a great selection of 8 excerpts. I was already looking forward to Celeste Ng's "Little Fires Everywhere" and I am excited to get a preview of all the other authors that weren't on my radar.

I love these round-ups. It's great to be able to get a sample before you read (or commit to reviewing). I'm so excited about Little Fires Everywhere and Hanna Who Fell From the Sky

Love Buzz Books. Even though I've read through the 2017 Fall/Winter Buzz Book, the monthly books always have new info. This September issue is especially full of updated info, by week even, of new and exciting books. Debut authors are hot this fall and winter, which I find so encouraging to explore. Good news abounds. Get your copy now!

Talk about interesting. Above all else, this monthly compilation urged me to step outside of the box and consider something different. Something that doesn’t fall into one of my usual genres. I’m not saying I’ll give them all a chance, or even add them to my daunting pile for the future, but I now have a few candidates to draw from the next time I’m in the mood to escape the tried-and-true and explore a little. If you haven’t taken the time to peruse one of these monthly releases, I highly recommend it. Not only is it great having a complete listing of the books being released by genre and category, but it’s also a great way to see what else is out there. To expose yourself to something you wouldn’t normally give a second glance or to even get a tiny taste of an author’s writing skills; the excerpts are great for this very reason.

Here are my thoughts on the books that were highlighted for September:

The Child Finder: I’m not sure why, but ‘missing’ child stories aren’t something that interest me as of late. This is a no for me.

Fever: Not my typical genre by any stretch of the imagination, but there’s something interesting about this one. The excerpt proved the opening to be quite compelling and attention-grabbing. I may have to leave this one on the backburner though and pull it off when I’m in the mood for something post-apocalyptic.

Little Fires Everywhere: I try my best to have willpower and be choosy with my selections, especially advanced reader copies—believe me, if you could see my daunting ‘to-read’ pile you would understand—but from the first few pages of this excerpt I was hooked. And honestly, that’s putting it lightly. Something about this author’s writing that just spoke to me . . . immediately. So, I was powerless, I jumped on NetGalley and requested an advanced copy. Fingers crossed.

Sourdough: Not my cup of tea.

Hanna Who Fell From the Sky: This gave me a ‘Sister Wives’ meets ‘The Village’ vibe. The excerpt was interesting enough, it’s just not something I’m going to jump into right this minute. I would say worth consideration though.

The End of the World Running Club: Interesting. Very interesting. One I’m going to have to ponder.

War Cross: I’m the first to admit, YA just isn’t my thing. So, it’s a little bit of a shocker to even be saying this, but something about this particular summary garnered my attention; enough that I actually read the excerpt, which is rare for me with this genre. This book is being labeled a ‘rainy day’ or ‘I’m in the mood for something way outside of the box’ contender. Who knows, it could turn into a new favorite.

Truthfully, I was a little disappointed this entry. To be fair, I wasn't sure what to expect, so when I read it was all about new releases, I was pretty excited. However, as I read, books/genres I am interested in were not discussed, so I was pretty disappointed at the end. I also found it difficult to navigate on my Kindle. Perhaps a hard-copy would be easier to flip back and forth among pages. I will sadly be skipping these in the future.
