I’m not going to go into any details about the book in my review, which will shorten it a great deal, but believe me—I’m doing everyone who hasn’t read it yet a huge favor. For maximum reading enjoyment, you REALLY need to not know anything beyond what is said in the cryptic blurb. If you do that, this book is guaranteed to knock you off your feet. That’s how I read this book. I started it with certain expectations of what might happen, and all I can say is I was never so happy to be so completely wrong about a book in my life. I can say without hesitation that The Wife Between Us is easily one of the best books I have ever read in this genre, if not the best. The characters are crisply written, and you’ll find yourself siding with one or the other early on. The plot is complex, yet easy to follow and the events that take place within the story will keep the story uppermost in your mind during those moments life forces you to (reluctantly) stop reading for a while. Thrilling plot twists and stunning reveals will shatter everything you come to expect from the story, and have you frantically reading to see what happens next. Don’t miss out on reading the book that is destined to be listed as one of the best releases of 2018. Do yourself a favor and add this one to your TBR immediately! |
The synopsis of this excellent novel warns you to assume nothing. But what is there to assume? It's pretty obvious what's going on, right?... right? I thought I was reading an addictive psychological thriller. Well written and impossible to put down, but a story that I've read before. A woman was dumped by her husband for being a mess and is now obsessed with her perfect, innocent replacement. She couldn't have children, so she doesn't want to even think about the new bride being pregnant. A great read, but not the most original. Well... I was SO wrong! The first twist was surprising, I had to go back through some passages and seeing in a different light made so much sense. Then, the twists kept coming, one after the other. Nothing is what it seems. Really. I can't say more because spoiling anything would be a crime. All I can say is: read this book. Now! You won't regret it as you run back the events in your mind figuring out how it all fit together. |
This was such an emotional ride while reading this. I recommend this book! |
Wow! This book will definitely keep you guessing! Is Vanessa a jealous wife? Who's Nellie? What about Richard? As the chapters go by we learn more and more about these people.. But who's deceiving whom? Then we meet Emma.. More twists! A must read and the twists don't stop until the very last page. Highly recommended! *I received an advance reader cooy in exchange for an honest review |
Wow, where to start? I'm reading along thinking the alternating points of view are leading down one road, and then BAM, nothing is as it seems and the path to the climax takes an entirely different course. Some readers are going to hate this, some will love it. Some will be sooooo confused. You may need to go back and reread parts. For me, I felt somewhat manipulated and kept asking myself if what happened really made any sense. I kept with it, through more twists and turns, until the very end. And then I started it over again. And yes, it did make sense knowing now what I didn't know before. So, touche and congrats to the author for pulling it all off! Absolutely not what I expected at all, from the title or from the first few chapters. My thanks to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley. |
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic ARC of this novel, furnished in exchange for an honest review. When Vanessa realizes that her ex-husband, Richard, is about to marry another woman, she immediately realizes that she needs to do whatever she can to stop it. What is kept secret, of course, is the reason why. “The Wife Between Us” by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen, is one that I heard about everywhere, the one novel that everyone was talking about. A novel full of intrigue and speculation, it became one of those books where you could assume and guess as to the motive and the ending- and you would’ve been wrong. This novel (dare I say…) has similarities to ”Girl on the Train” (I know…I’m sorry, but it does!) and yet is still its own creative entity. The woman in this novel are all strong, honest and genuine characters. They have their moments when the readers are likely to love them, while hating them, all at once. Richard, the ex-husband, is really not that likable of a character (even before the truth is revealed), but this helps a reader take sides with the women of this story- which is what, I believe, the author intended. “The Wife Between Us” has its own twists and turns in the plot, and a lot of unpredictable events. However, on the flip side, there were a few main plot points which I was able to guess from the novel’s beginning. This does not take away from how enjoyable this story is! The ending was concise and satisfying and the final twist actually came as a shock to me. This novel is a great combined effort by these two authors, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much this story entertained me. Some predictability and some similarities to other books in this genre, make “The Wife Between Us” a four-star read. Definitely worth exploring and recommending to those who enjoy a gripping tale of female jealousy and how the assumptions we make about people can be dead wrong. |
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and the authors for my ARC of The Wife Between Us. I believe that this book will be a top book in 2018, and I wish that I'd found it more gripping, like most (all?) other readers did.I'd like to see this book as a movie. I think that the writers did a fantastic job collaborating with one another and they should be very proud of what they accomplished. I would recommend this book to friends because I think most people will find the twists and turns surprising. I may very well be the only person out there who found this book fairly predictable; If so, that proves that Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen did a fantastic job weaving this story. For me, it meant that I kept putting this book down. It just didn't hold my attention. |

I forgot how this book was touted to me, but if it didn't mention Gone Girl or Behind Closed Doors, it should. And as the synopsis states, assume nothing. The positives: suspense, unpredictable. The negatives: slow to start (cuz ya think you have it figured out!), jumpy. I left a star from my rating simply because of the time jumps; they aren't always clear and can happen mid-thought, almost. Otherwise, well worth the read and 4 stars. |
This was such a great book. It was a real page-turner and the ending was unexpected! |
This story has been done to death since Daphe Du Maurier’s Rebecca hit the best seller list in 1938. Rich perfectionist husband and young naive wife whose dream life (complete with the name dropping of expensive brands) is destroyed by his controlling ways. There is still a huge market for this genre, but frankly I have evolved beyond the damsel in distress story and find it tiresome. The variation here of the sick husband controlling not one but two passive women only makes it more annoying, but I’m sure the glamorous New York setting will attract readers. The publisher’s blurb compared the story to Gone Girl and Girl on a Train. Since I didn’t care for either of those, that should have been the clue. However, to be honest, I don’t think this story brings either book to mind and prospective readers should be warned. |
Do not be fooled by this book. As it begins, you may think you have it all figured out. But, read on ! Lots of twists and turns. This is not your usual "divorced woman " story. Have fun ! |
Without giving any of the story away, this book is not what you expect. And I love that. These days, being surprised while reading a book is getting harder and harder. A plus to the authors!!!! PS- Publisher - Getting really tired of the Gone Girl, Girl on the train references with new books. try a little harder please. |
The Wife Between Us by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is one of those books that lets you think that you know what's going on and then you get deliciously blind-sided. There are plenty of twists and turns for those of you who love psychological thrillers. This book is worth losing sleep staying up to finish it all in one read. Enjoy! |
What a page turner. This book was so cleverly written it was impossible to put down. Full of twists and turns, that left my head realing. Finished this in record time and would definitely recommend it to anyone. |
I received this from netgalley.com in exchange for a review. Vanessa fell in love with her husband, who turns out to not be who she thought he was. I felt the story prodded along too slow, the 'what if he, what if she' was overdone. There was a good twist at the end, but for the most part the mystery was fairly predictable. 3.25☆ |
Wow! What a breathtaking thrill ride of a book--full of unexpected twists and turns! It grabs you on the first page and doesn't let go until the satsifying, unforeseen conclusion! The quote "perception is reality" describes the book perfectly, although nothing in the novel is as it appears. You may even look questionably at your own spouse or possibly avoid the institution of marriage altogether after reading this book! LOL Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to read an Advance Readers' Copy of the book. I loved it and highly recommend it! I expect to see the story on the big screen someday! |
I've been a huge fan of Sarah Pekkanen ever since I read her second novel Skipping a Beat. It's a book I still consider to be one of my all time favorites as well as one I suggest to pretty much anyone who'll listen! Therefore, when I heard about The Wife Between, a book that's one of the most buzzed about of 2018, I instantly added it to my wish list. The Result? The Wife Between Us is SPECTACULAR! Featuring explosive twists, complex main characters, and stellar writing, The Wife Between Us quite simply blew my mind. It's a book I finished days ago yet it's still haunting my thoughts, and if that's not a sign of a good book, I don't know what is. In the synopsis it says "assume nothing," and I think that's the perfect way to describe The Wife Between Us. At first, I thought I had everything figured out, but then I got to around 50% and everything I had thought to be true was SHATTERED. I wasn't even mad - I was delighted. I loved being wrong in this case, because a book that manages to rock me to my core as much as this one did is rare. In addition to the explosive twists, Sarah Pekkanen and Greer Hendricks divulge into a lot of hard topics within this - abuse, mental illness, moving on after a failed relationship, etc. I thought they did an amazing job of bringing all these topics together in this one as well as presenting it in a way that was realistic and handled well. In all, I could go on about The Wife Between Us all day, but I don't want to give anything away. So I'll end with this.... I've read Sarah's books before, and they've always managed to impress me, but this book takes my appreciation of Sarah's writing (and Greer's!) to a whole new level. This is the kind of read that makes me remember why I love a good thriller, and more importantly, why a dual narrative (and a third person one at that) can work so incredibly well when done right. Basically, add this book to your TBRs - you won't regret it!! *This review was posted on Lauren's Crammed Bookshelf on Friday, November 24th, 2017.. This book was fantastic. It was gripping and suspenseful. I hope the writers work on another joint venture. This book had me hooked! I can't wait to make time to read it again to see what I missed on this first read. Great book! |
Wow no words on great this book was. Connections that never seemed possible, Love and pain all wrapped into an unbelievable ended. Hooked from the first page, and stunned at the end. Wow! |
Thank you to Net Galley and the Publisher for providing me with an ARC of this Title for review. This was a GREAT read! The "suspense" factor resulting from the content in the synopsis heightened my enthusiasm for enjoying this Title. I love a good book that always has you "guessing!" And the comment "Assume nothing" was perfect and set the stage and my mindset going into this one. Based on all the attention and favorable reviews I have observed both here on Goodreads and elsewhere, it is, in my opinion, very well deserved. The alternating POVs had a nice, smooth rhythm and I never found it to be disconcerting as happens in so many of the novels I have read of late. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys a smart, suspenseful story! |
