This was a great book about love lost and grief and how it can make you think things that just aren't real.

A successful page turner with shocking twists and turns... my only regret is waiting so long to actually read it. This was really good.

So that took a twist I was not expecting.
When things start to make sense and you understand what exactly is going on there is another twist. Things were very interesting, I did feel like it took a while to get to explaining what exactly was going on but once it did...boy did it.

OMG What did I just read? This book left me speechless and that's weird, in fact, very weird.

The premise says assume nothing, but that is precisely what I did since I started reading. When the twists begin, several times I went back to check how I didn’t see those things, as how I could have supposed otherwise. It is intriguing, it goes fast and YOU. CANT. STOP. READING.

You think that there are many books that deal with the same subject of spouses and lovers. Think again. There's nothing like this book, it's magnificent!

Richard is the prince charming any woman would want to have in her life: loving, attentive, attractive, rich and successful.

Vanesa is the 37 years old ex wife of Richard, who after many years of marriage without having children, gets divorced and was left in the street, without money, without reputation, alcoholic, sharing his aunt's small apartment in New York and working for the first time in many years. Richard was her whole life and now she only drowns the sorrows in alcohol and when she finds out that Richard is going to marry again with his young and beautiful lover, her world is torn apart. She becomes obsessed with Nelly, her replacement, and begins to persecute, especially because Nelly has no idea what happens.

Nelly is Richard's new fiancee. They meet during a flight in which Richard helps her to calm down because she is very afraid to travel by plane. She is scare of Everything, period. She graduated recently in Florida and fled leaving a problem behind, which makes her sleep with a baseball bat next to her bed and with several locks on her door. But now she feels safe with Richard.

Samantha, her housemate and best friend, and her mother ask her if Richard is not too good to be true.

It all starts when Nelly receives strange phone calls where nobody speaks. Who could it be? Could be the problematic Richard's ex wife? Could be because of the problem she left in Florida?

The book is narrated by Vanessa and Nelly, which greatly enriches the story and, moreover, makes this story possible, with which we have all the plans. Or so we think.

I received this free book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Great story with unreliable narrators. Definitely dark and involves a husband/boyfriend who is emotionally abusive. Excellent twist ending.

I just finished this book…and WOW! I thought I was burned out on thrillers but this book just gripped me from beginning to end. Just as I thought I had everything figured out the story took another twist or turn. I literally couldn’t put it down…I read through the night because I couldn’t wait to see what was just around the corner. I won’t give any specifics since you need to wend your own way through the maze…but, believe me, you’ll love the journey.

I really enjoyed reading The Wife Between Us. I will admit at times I had to go back and reread certain things because I was a little confused with the Vanessa/Nellie. I would recommend reading this to others. Thanks for the advanced copy.

In an effort not to spoil this one, I’m gonna go ahead and channel my inner Will Smith and just get .giffy wit it . . . . .

Soooooo what can I say about The Wife Between Us? Well, I can start with the fact that this ARC has probably been on my Kindle for a year and a half, but I actively avoided it after seeing more and more mediocre ratings from friends. I decided to finally give it a go after this duo’s second release began inundating my nerd feeds just like this one had. While reading the first 40% I kept thinking I liked it better the first time I read it when it was called The Girl on the Train, which isn’t saying much . . . . .

But then there was a reveal . . . . . .

And then some stuff that was mentioned waaaaaaay early on ended up getting mentioned again and it was pretty clear that at least one of the authors was like . . . . .

And then there was another reveal – and that one made me say . . . . .

For real. I mean I know I was supposed to hate the husband, but at this point I wanted the wife dead too.

And then there was another reveal for the big shock and awe ending . . . . .

I think I have a problem with writing teams when it comes to thrillers. The characters don’t ever seem to get fleshed out, the timeline is consistently wonky, what you are lead to believe are important details either get forgotten for hundreds of pages or thrown by the wayside entirely and the twists and turns become a game of “anything you can do I can do better” which results in a final Kelly and Mitchell reaction of . . . .

This book just totally blew my mind! I thought I knew what was going on, but it turns out I didn’t know anything! When I reached the end and I thought the plot was resolved, I was wrong again. I love books that can blow my mind and this one was certainly one of them. I will read anything that the two authors publish and I can’t wait to read their new book. This one was definitely one of my favorite books!

I had been anticipating this read for some time now and became super excited when it was my first approval on NetGalley. Sadly, it was kind of a let-down. I loved the beginning of the book and completely sucked in. Since I read a lot of psychological thrillers, I was guessing at the first twist from the get-go. The other "twists" weren't as wild as the description implied and the 2nd half dragged on. I kept thinking the author was attempting to replicate Gillian Flynn, yet fell short. It was a decent read and I am so thankful for the opportunity but less dramatic than expected.

4.5* for this well written mystery.

This one is a nail biter that kept me on my toes for the entire read. What you think isn't always what is true, and this novel cleverly develops the plot around two women and the man in their lives.

If you're looking for twists that will surely keep your mind whirling with the what ifs this is it.

I loved this one...it really surprised me in a way that many recent psychological thrillers haven't been able to do. I really enjoyed the way secrets were revealed. A truly suspenseful read!

This is hard because I absolutely loved the beginning of this book with its unreliable narrator and the complete mystery of who the characters were. And the book has its 5-star moments. Some of the terror at the end was well done, and the twists were great if they had been fleshed out or part of a more fleshed-out story.

But my main issue is that the book sort of falls apart after the initial character question is answered. At that point we are left with one unreliable narrator who continues to behave as if she's batshit crazy yet it seems that we are supposed to now believe everything she says. But what do you do with a character who (view spoiler)

If the main character pops up in the middle of a book and exclaims "Surprise! I was never crazy, it was HIM all along!!" yet continues to behave in a really really crazy way, it can make a book difficult to follow. Like at some point a sane person, even one who's been through trauma, says "Forget it," and leaves to go live her own life.

But we have other character issues. Although the main character is somewhat fleshed out in a completely bizarre way, almost none of the other characters are anything but cardboard cutouts. The husband is less menacing villain than he is a boring prop. I have no idea why any woman would fall in love with him, and I still don't understand the reason behind his behavior.

In short, the book just falls apart after the reveal in the middle. I had thought the beginning was brilliant, and I have faith that the writer has the talent and ability to write some really great thrillers, but it feels like either this was too much to deal with at once, or there wasn't enough time to flesh it out and make the entire book brilliant.

The 2-stars reflect my honest feeling of "It was okay" and I'd never steer anyone away from trying it. I just don't feel it's a winner.

I overall enjoyed this book, but from reading the synopsis, I knew to “look” for a twist and basically figured out the big twist (which comes around halfway through the book) before it came. After that, I was still intrigued but wanted a little more. The ending felt a little lackluster, and the other twist revealed towards the end felt completely unnecessary. It seemed like it was an after thought, to be honest. I will definitely check out more from this author, but I’ll avoid reading any summaries that might reveal that I should assume nothing because then I’ll know to expect something.

A very tense, psychological thriller that totally had me guessing the entire way! I could not put it down!

LOVED IT!! I have recommended this one to all my friends as a YOU CAN NOT MISS THIS BOOK! Wow! I was literally on the edge of my seat!

Vanessa is an ex-wife. Her husband is now about to marry a beautiful, younger woman, and Vanessa is alone. She had a large house, designer clothes, days of leisure. Now she has a bedroom at her aunt’s and a job selling designer clothes to other women. As the chapters go back and forth between young Nellie and older (and wiser) Vanessa, we get a picture of how the relationships looked to outsiders.

But things aren’t always what they seem.

The end of part one of The Wife Between Us is just the first big twist in this novel full of surprises. Just when you think you’ve got a handle on what’s going on, the ground beneath you shifts, and you find yourself in a completely different story than the one you thought you were reading. But realize this—it will happen again. And again. And again. You have to read all the way to the end to find out what the true story is.

Authors Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen take you for a very twisty ride in this first novel together, setting the stage for so many exciting possibilities for those of us who adore a good psychological thriller. And this is a very good psychological thriller.

I got an early copy of this, but because of drama in my life, I struggled to find the time to get to it. So I bought the audio version after it was released and started listening. It’s narrated by Julia Whelan, who is one of my favorite audiobook narrators, and I couldn’t stop listening. I got sucked in quickly and stayed there, until I couldn’t take it anymore and finished the story myself, since I can read faster than I listen.

I hate it when people call books “unputdownable.” But this one was. I can’t recommend this one enough. Start reading it now, and if you can put it down and walk away, go ahead. I couldn’t.

Galleys for The Wife Between Us were provided by St. Martin’s Press through NetGalley, with many thanks, but I bought the audio myself, thanks to Audible.

NOTE: This review contains spoilers for The Wife Between Us and The Last Mrs. Parrish.

I’m going to do something I rarely do when writing reviews—I’m going to post spoilers. But, in order to truly express how I feel, I need to. So, be patient with me and understand that this is absolutely necessary.

I was super into the first half. Any book description that says “assume nothing” immediately grabs my attention. I’m here for the suspense—always.

Then I got to the second half. The big plot twist was coming. And I truly didn’t predict it. Hats off to Hendricks and Pekkanen. I seriously had to go back and read some of the pages over again to make sure it was real.

But the second half of the book—are you kidding me? I’ve already read this plot before. It’s called The Last Mrs. Parrish. I was actually really upset by the similarities. A very wealthy, handsome husband that seems perfect and a dream come true. An abused wife who wants out of the marriage. A mistress that the wife is hoping the husband will leave her for in order to be free of him. Is everyone really out of ideas?!

Anyway. End rant.

That’s really my only grievance with The Wife Between Us. I still thought it was entertaining, the writing was great and I couldn’t put it down.

This is a debut psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There are so many schemes with twists and turns that you will not see them all coming. This book is spellbinding and completely captivating. These two authors have worked very well together to come up with a story that draws you in almost instantly and keeps you that way until the end. Nothing is as it seems in this book, don't assume that you know anyone!

Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Assume absolutely nothing! Halfway through the book I had to reflect and piece it all together. Then I had to finish it and then what I thought I had figured out was completely twisted! You really won’t get the title until the end and there are so many plot twist but not as many as The Last Mrs. Parrish. But close! This is so good and a page turner, you will not want to put it down.

Thank you Bookish First and St. Martins Press for the copy.

You won’t waste your time with this book and it’s already opted for a movie. Go buy this book!

Remember assume nothing and read between the lies!
