I think this might be my favorite of The Renegades series - and that is saying a lot because I truly enjoyed them all.
Penna (aka Rebel) is a character that we have seen since the series began and have seen her go through a lot, but this is the first time we get to meet Penelope - the complete person behind the persona. As I got to know Penna as a more complete person, I really liked her. I've always known she was more than a pretty face, even more than just a wonderful athlete, and it was nice to get to know that person.
Cruz is the newest faculty member at the Renegades study at sea program. He's an easy character to like and root for, especially when he almost immediately sees past Penna's facade to the woman beneath and wants to take care of her.
Rebel has a lot going on in the plot department. There is the "normal" Renegades piece that carries through the series, but there are so many other elements. We see Penna's emotional struggles on several fronts, Cruz's secrets, and the taboo element of their relationship. Ms. Yarros does a fantastic job of pulling all of these pieces together in such a way that they blend together seamlessly and create an emotional journey that you don't want to end.
There was one issue that kept this from being a full 5 star read for me and it was the interaction between Penna, her sister Brooke, and their mother. While the Brooke issue was important to the story, the resolution and final confrontation felt a little incomplete to me. It left me with more questions than answers, especially about Penna's relationship with her parents.
Rebel is very much part of a series. It could be read as a stand-alone, but I would not suggest reading it as such. Part of what makes this such a strong book is knowing what has happened before, so I would definitely read the series in order to get the full impact.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

OMG this book is.... there are no words for it. This book is AMAZING. And the epilogue, wow. I loved every word. This book left me with a big smile and tears streaming down my face, in a very good way.

Rebecca Yarros proved again what an amazing writer she is. She makes you feel everything tge characters are feeling.

I loved Nova and especially Wilder very, very much, but I think Rebel is my favorite.

Rebel is the third and last installment in an amazing trilogy about the Renegades. Rebel is the only original female Renegade and I loved that this book was about her. And Cruz was very swoon worthy.

4,5 Rebel stars

This is the epitome of a very good romance story. The character cast was fantastic! The plot had just the right balance of (slightly) forbidden romance (teacher/student), great friendship and coming to terms with some inner guilt and bruised past.

First of all: I love Rebel!
I’m a reformed tomboy. You know the kind to climb trees, make stunts with the boys on her skateboard. The only girl allowed at playing football (pardon, soccer) with the boys at school. The one who never backed away from a challenge and knew how to use her fists against boys if need arose.
So Rebel being the only girl in a bunch of daredevils touring the world to make crazy stunts more dangerous than the former ones was my kind of girl! Did I dig that chick!

Second: Cruz is the perfect boyfriend.
Seriously he is not only drool worthy all lickable abs, happy trail, dark hair and something eye but he is incredibly supportive. He fell for Penelope/Rebel and her crazy job but will never try to cage her or put any blackmail hoping to have her stop her dangerous activity. He will band her injuries, demand to study the projected stunt to better advise the technicalities and security measures…and worry till it’s done but never stopping her. He knew the stunts were part of her personality. Rebel is who Penelope is.

Let’s put some order to this review now.
This book is part of a series and it would probably be best to read the other books first but that’s not what I did. I read it as a standalone and got the gist of the other books without too many difficulties. It certainly did not deter me from my pleasure!

As already said Rebel is a twenty something woman part of a band of daredevils. Pax, Landon, Nico and Penelope are the “Originals”. The firsts to have created this group of adrenaline junkies. They know each other since childhood and now have made their stunts into a business, gathering other “Renegades” with them and a huge fan base.
In the previous book a drama happened and Rebel has been physically and morally wounded.
She now is trying to go back in the saddle and the story opens on Penelope convincing a stranger met in a bar at Vegas to pull a BASE jump from a Ferris wheel.
She needs to prove she can do stunts again. Not to others, well that too, but to herself first.

The story revolves around a forbidden romance but also around Rebel’s journey to rebuild her confidence and self-esteem. I really liked her determination, her dedication. She wants to claim back that brazen part of her that’s been missing. You have to admire the girl as she is one strong willed heroine!

The forbidden romance aspect happens when Rebel’s new teacher is none other than the mysterious stranger: Cruz.
Of course they’ll try to resist their attraction but the chemistry is too strong! She could ruin Cruz’s career and he desperately needs to teach on that ship for personal reasons.
Oh yes, I forgot to tell that Rebel and her friends are touring the world in a cruising ship, busy getting their college degree thanks to in house teachers. How cool is that right? Being taught on a boat cruising the oceans. Yes sign me in any time!

I really loved witnessing the blossom of their love. How perfect they were for each other forbidden aspect aside. Nothing wrong had ever felt so right!
I loved the friendships with Pax, Landon, Rachel, Leah. Learning the technicalities of the stunts was very interesting and following that strong girl on the path of her recovery was inspiring.

So would I recommend it? YES if you’re a fan of romance without too much angst with swoon worthy character and in need of a kickass heroine.

Whenever I hear that Rebecca Yarros has a new book out, I can not jump on it fast enough. She has the remarkable ability to seamlessly weave a story that encompasses ALLLL of the things!!! This story was EVERYTHING y'all. It was so damn sexy, emotional and had the perfect combination of the forbidden while incorporating adventure and action!

I have patiently waited for Penna/Rebel's book from the beginning because I knew there was more to the strong and fiery firecracker we saw in Wilder and Nova. After the first couple of pages where we meet Cruz and Penna I just knew this author was going to end this series on an explosion because that is exactly what Cruz and Penna delivered. Their banter was fiery and their attraction just as combustible. He was the perfect alpha Badass to her sassy Renegade. I could not get enough of them.

GAHHHH. This book was everything. YES IT DESERVES TO BE REPEATED. EVERYTHING!!! I laughed, I cried and I wanted to throw them both (along with my kindle out of the window at times) because my frustration level was to the roof. I was hooked on every word and emotion as it was so amazing to see the usually strong and confident Rebel (to the world and her brothers) needing a shoulder to cry and lean on. I absolutely fell in love with Cruz at first sight and was enamoured with the way he saw the vulnerable woman inside looking to find herself again. She was his weakness and as a result, he would do anything for her!!

All in all this was an amazing conclusion to the series and I once again bow down to the greatness of this author. She can do no wrong and always delivers on ALL levels. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

I would like to thank NetGalley and Entangled Publishing for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review

Wow, what a ride! I'm honestly afraid I'm not even going to be able to do this book justice with my words. Rebel has just jumped to one of my top reads of the year and is hands down my favorite book by Rebecca Yarros ever. I wasn't sure what I was expecting going into this book, but I was not at all disappointed with the story I read.

Penna and Cruz are just...everything! The connection and chemistry between these two was off the charts amazing. Cruz is going to the top of my favorite book boyfriend list. It's going to be really hard to knock him down. I don't think I've ever swooned so hard while reading a book before. Cruz said the most beautiful, heart-warming things to Penna. I lost count of how many times I highlighted throughout the book. I loved his loyalty and dedication. He did whatever was necessary to reach his end goal. Penna has also jumped to the top of my favorite female character list. I loved everything about her. She is sassy, strong, independent, and goes after what she wants no matter what.

This book had me on the edge of my seat almost the entire time I was reading it. There was so much anticipation about how certain things would turn out. I loved the suspense, the build up, and the twists that I didn't see coming. It made for an amazing read.

Questions were answered about things that happened in the previous books and it all came together wonderfully. I laughed, I was angry, and I cried. This story was everything you could hope for in a Renegade book and more.

Rebel is a smart, adventurous, sexy read. Third in the Renegades series, it's the story of Cruz Delgado and Penna Carstairs also known as Rebel. They are both intelligent, driven, caring, sexy characters. The story is smartly written, with touch of mystery and the forbidden. The rest of the Renegades add to plot and the togetherness and commitment of the group. Rebel is a fantastic and recommended read. Even though this is a standalone, I would suggest reading Wilder and Nova first to get a better understanding of the group and characters as a whole.

Student-teacher taboo romances are, to be quite honest, no longer taboo. Take a look at French President Macron and his missus, for example. However, stories like theirs are still too titillating to pass up, especially when one adds the age factor to both main characters and there are no further taboos a reader has to deal with (i.e., statutory rape is NOT sexy). By the “age factor,” I mean both MCs are young (NOT like Macron and his madame), single, and ready to mingle.

Rebecca Yarros blended many of those titillating, sensual, exciting, and dramatic elements that made “Rebel” a fast-page-turning read. Whilst the YA aspect of the story was a little bit much for me (e.g., the MCs hem and haw endlessly about their relationship, and their uncontrollable urges and loins are OTT), I just decided to deal with it. I got on with their show, and at the end of the day, I got a good book that took me far and away from my reality. That, after all, is what good books ultimately do.

you guys, rebel was even better than i imagined it would be. penna's story is by far the most emotional one of the bunch. she's still recovering from her leg injury. she's estranged from her little sister, her best friend and the rest of her family. she's not sure she's got what it takes to still be a renegade.

so one night in vegas she decides to try a stunt. and she meets someone who is willing to roll the dice with her on a crazy basejump off a carousel. and that leads them to an intense makeout session that is interrupted only by the police looking for some illegal basejumpers. cruz only knows her as penelope. but when he starts up his new job as a history professor at ucla working a semester at sea program he learns that she is rebel aka penna carstairs, his student.

while what happens in vegas should stay in vegas, the problem is that the chemistry between cruz and penna is ridiculous and out of this world. these two literally scorch the pages of this book with the intensity of their connection and when you add in the layer of danger because they can't get caught it's so hot. so freaking hot.

she is his student. he is her teacher. except she is also his. and he is hers. there is no question that they belong together. their love burns so brightly. it's impossible to contain.

i can't really explain how much i loved this book. part of me is sad that this was written as the last in the series, because i feel like nitro/nick deserved his own book. but the epic epilogue on this one is perfect. literally, everything about this story worked for me. i have no nitpicks or quibbles about cruz and penna's story. i loved everything about it. i keep repeating myself, but it's because i feel compelled to tell everyone how much i loved this book.

ARC provided via NetGalley for honest review.

I am completely in love with this book.
Since it’s the third one in the series I was a bit afraid that the story wouldn’t be that original and that it would follow a similar pattern as the previous one; I can gladly say that I was very wrong. Color me surprised. There are so many good things I’d like to say about this book that I should probably make a list:

- The writing is always amazing. I love Rebecca’s style, her way of describing amazing stunts and landscapes, how the character’s personalities are portrayed.
- I loved Penna from the first book. She is definitely one of my favourite characters ever. She’s super badass and resilient yet still vulnerable; she was going through a rough path and she had to decide how she wanted to face her fears and problems. I also really really loved her relationship with Pax, Landon and Nick. In this book you can really see their family dynamics and how much they care for each other.
- Cruz. Cruz is just the best thing ever. He’s a great character. He is protective yet very supportive of Penna, he can keep her pace without problem and can make her feel safe. They’re perfect together.
- I loved Penna’s journey throughout the book, how she tried to resolve her problems with Brooke and her bike, her journey to pull off that crazy stunt and her love for Cruz with all the consequences. As well as Cruz’s journey, and how brave he had to be to make the right decision.

So, in case you hadn’t noticed, I really loved this book. The first one had been my favourite but I think that maybe this one was even better.

But now that this series is (sadly) over I’ll just have to go and read the Flight & Glory series.

Thanks for the book, I loved it. 5 stars.

I wasn’t even 5% into this book when I realized it was going to be something really special.

I mean, the reality is that I look forward to every Rebecca Yarros book like it’s some kind of much coveted Christmas present. But even that level of anticipation never seems to adequately prepare me for what I find between the pages. Penna, you guys.

Jesus.

I somehow just wasn’t prepared for the emotional punch of her, the soul deep ache of her, and all the ways she would completely steal my heart.

Ms. Yarros got everything just perfectly right in this series finale. The sizzling, pulsing, nearly tangible chemistry between Cruz and Penna, evident nearly immediately and threading its way into every storyline over the entire course of the book. The stunts and adventures - exciting and suspenseful, causing my breath to catch and my eyes to widen as I feared and cheered for these incredible Renegades. The subtle taboo in the forbidden nature of Cruz and Penna’s relationship making the build-up slow in that way that caused my heart to ache with want and frustration for these two amazing characters and their star-crossed love. Penna – all fiercely independent but so desperate to find her safe harbor in the storm that is her life. Cruz – all alpha protective and completely helpless in the wake of Penna’s storm.

This is perfection you guys, plain and simple. I crazy loved it.

I’m not going to lie – I’m a little bit (sort of a lot) sad that there won’t be a Nick book. I feel like there’s a compelling and heart-wrenching story there – but I can live with the ending Ms. Yarros gave him in this book. All of the Renegades actually got endings that made my heart overflow with happiness for them. I loved this fiercely loyal little family. I loved that they squabbled like siblings, but stood by each other, no questions asked, time and time again. This series has been an incredible wild ride and I’m so glad to have been along for the journey.

The ending? Sublime. Really. So incredibly heartwarming and happy-making. I cried, I’ll admit it. Because it was so perfect for these characters, and so right for their stories. A nearly perfect series ending, the best kind of present (Christmas or otherwise) and I am 100% satisfied.

Last 20% was the best...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I rarely take 4 days to finish a book. When that happens it is because I just cannot get into the story. It is frustrating to me and I felt like I was missing so much in this one.
This is definitely crafted in the YA methodology. Plus, it is a continuation in a series where you simply need to read the prior books. I really wish the publisher would call that out better in the synopsis.
Anyway, while the story was interesting in many ways, there was too much talk, drama, and therefore I really missed the connection between Cruz and Penna, aka Rebel. It was a good match up but with the long lead in into something actually happening, it became boring for me.
Cruz was an amazing character and I did love everything he was about and how he treated her. I just wish I felt more connection overall with this book.
As I stated earlier, the last 20% of the book was the best, although a huge wrap-up was missing about one important character in this story. Not sure what that is about.
The theme was good, but you should read the other parts before entering this book. Do yourself a favor.
‘Rebel’ is Rebecca Yarros’s last book in her ‘Renegades’ series and it is quite a send-off for this group of daredevils accountable to no one…until Cruz Delgado comes onto the scene and messes it up, taking Penna Carstairs down with a bang while he’s at it.
For which I’m glad, to be honest.
Extreme sports aren’t exactly my thing and I’ll be the first to admit the Renegades hadn’t quite won me over with their deeds, which they do without caring too much about the consequences. But with Penna’s story, there’s some kind of redemption when the characters finally start to realise that there can be consequences too difficult to face with every action. Aside from the forbidden teacher-student relationship that Cruz and Penna had going, ‘Rebel’ has been by far, the best read of all in the series because Yarros also moves slightly away from the Renegades’ documentary making to writing about a daring rescue in Havana which ups the thrills and spills.
Penna—the only female extreme athlete among the thorns—shines so brightly it can get painful just to look at her. On paper, there’s everything going for her as she matches the boys step for step, ride for ride. But I liked the human side of her that emerges when she starts doubting herself after an accident caused by her sister and the loss of confidence that made her reckless in wanting to get back her mojo.
It’s only Cruz—the hot, older professor and Army vet—who gets Penna, matches her and outshines even the Renegades; in fact, I felt Cruz helped shape ‘Rebel’ for me and made it unforgettable. His grounding presence changes the entire dynamics of the story, bringing the sense of accountability that I appreciated, as well as a balanced voice of reason amongst the frat-boy, belligerent and petulant behaviour driven mostly by egos which left me sorely frustrated in the first 2 books. I loved how he looked these boys in the eye and held their actions up to scrutiny, essentially, taking care of the immature moments that frustrated me. He is the first to behave like the mature adult, making Pax and Landon seem like boys who didn’t really grow up in comparison, seeing through to Penna straightaway as she uses adrenaline highs in stunt after stunt to dull her mental state of mind.
My adulation of Cruz aside, the storyline does get gripping towards the end—the politics that Cruz got himself involved in gripped me more than the actual Renegades stunts—and I did ride the whole wave rather anxiously without stopping until I hit the deliriously happy epilogue though it came bittersweet. The epic adventures aside, seeing Penna/Cruz fight for each other simply made me one happy camper.
Loved, loved, loved!!! I always know I'm going to get a great story when I pick up a Rebecca Yarros book but this one exceeded my high expectations! A forbidden love, fears to overcome, long term plans to fulfill, and a bit of suspense combine to give us one of the best books of the year. Penna and Cruz will grab your attention from the very first page and will keep you turning page after page. I absolutely couldn't put this one down. This is the third book in the series and is easily read standalone although I do think you really enjoy it more if you've read all the books and already know many of these characters. Put this on the must read list! I highly recommend it.
This is a new author for me, and I've got to tell you, I plan to read a lot more of her books. This story is very well written page after page. Cruz and Penna's story is filled with a lot of action, hot romance, tender moments, and a storyline that will keep you turning page after page needing to find out how it ends. Loved the Renegades, didn't think much of Penna's mother or sister. Cruz's devotion to his sister was very heartwarming, and the ending was a perfect way to end this book. Very interesting how the storyline was set on a ship, loved the tours of each country. Didn't realize this was the third book in the series, can definitely be read as a standalone, but I plan on going back to read the first two books! Great read!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I have been patiently waiting for Rebel ever since I readWilder, and let me tell you... it did NOT disappoint!
This books begins with Penna lost and a little broken. She doesn't really know where she fits in anymore and isn't sure if being a Renegade is for her.
When she meets Cruz Delgado at a bar in Las Vegas, there is an instant attraction. One that sets your skin on fire and leaves you breathless. Thinking they will never see each other again after their dalliance, they were both in for a shock when it turned out that Cruz... is her new professor.
They try as hard as they can to keep their distance and to just be student and teacher, but their attraction is one they can't deny. It's one that neither of them has ever felt before.
" maybe it was the strength in his arms, or his sheer size. But Cruz did something no other man had ever managed. He made me feel tiny, protected, cherished".
Cruz and Penelope had that epic once in a lifetime love, where butterflies take flight every time you are around that person. Their relationship wasn't always easy; they had obstacles thrown their way with every turn they took. But OH MAN, Cruz loved Penelope something fierce. He was her EVERYTHING! He was the one person in her life that she could depend on to pick her up at the end of the day. He was the one that would heal her scraps and kiss her bruises.
This book... ugh, this book made me FEEL every emotion possible. It left me hanging on the edge of my seat, gasping for breath while I tried to figure out what would happened next.
When you read a lot of books, there are some that stay with you and others that don't. There is something really magical about that feeling you have hours, and even days later after finishing a book. Rebecca Yarros took me on a journey like no other with Rebel. I don't cry easily while reading books, but this book had tears streaming down my face and had my heart trying to beat out of my chest. Even hours later, writing this review, I'm still reeling from this book. I don't think I'll ever forgot it!
Rebel is hands down one of my top reads of 2017! If there was a way to give it more than 5 stars I would. It's definitely going to stay with me for quite some time.
The best thing about 'Rebel' is its heroine, Penna, I adore her character. I loved reading about such a vibrant and dynamic woman, who is rebellious, daring, as well as, loving and caring. Of course, I loved Cruz too. They are both perfect for each other and their story is too good to miss. So I'd definitely recommend it to all my fellow readers.
This book is very intriguing. The story starts in a way that just pulled me in and I was simply unable to put it down. Penna is going to do something very daring but now she doesn't have a partner for her stunt. That's when Cruz comes into the picture. They thought they'd never see each other again. But they thought wrong and fate has something else in mind. They are both attracted to each other. It's a forbidden romance you simply can't help but love.
To say that this series ended off on a high note would be somewhat understated. Rebel jumped right off the top and only continued onwards and upwards from there. I loved the Xtreme sports aspect as I did with the first two novels in The Renegades series. This one was no less packed with BASE jumps and motocross elements. If those weren't enough to peak your interest, the author totally hooks you with this whirlwind romance between Penna and Cruz. What more can we say about Cruz? Penna, literally, picked him up in Vegas and then, by a twist of fate and a splash of destiny, Cruz happens to end up as the professor of a class she's taking during her year aboard/abroad a cruise ship. Penna can't keep Cruz off her mind, and vice versa, but what can they do? This is a story of star-crossed lovers--is it finally Penna's turn to find her happily ever after just as her best friends have or will this be the worst crash and burn she'll experience to date with her heart being the casualty? I've always enjoyed this author's style of writing and this installment was just as enjoyable. The story has quite a bit of depth to it. It's jammed with action, it's fast paced and, yet, she takes the time to loop in characters you're already familiar with from the previous stories. The base characters actually play a pivitol role in this story. I also like how she took time to fill in some secondary characters' stories and developed them a bit. All in all, a fantastic novel and end to an XTREMEly enjoyable series (hah. #thepunlife)
If you’ve read WILDER and NOVA you know beforehand this one is going to get rough. I was enhancing my emotional walls for Rebel’s story throughout the previous two books because I just knew this book was going to hit me right in the feels and maybe even harder than Wilder and Nova did so yeah; I had to prepare myself for as far as it was possible to do, lol. That’s the thing with reading books written by Rebecca, about characters like Rebel, who you’ve come to known in previous books and got a lot of insight on already; they are going to just hit you right in the feels. No escape possible whatsoever for the shitload of emotions you’re about to experience.
So, yeah..the story continues after Wilder and Nova went to the X Games and Rebel stays behind due to her injuries, physically and mentally. Penna is broken after what happened with her accident and Brooke’s (her sister) involvement in that. Getting herself back into physical shape to reunite with team Renegade is just one of Penna’s current problems. She’s not certain she should even go back to the Renegades and the fact that she can’t talk about her feelings towards her sister with the other Renegades makes her want to keep her distance from the Renegades for as long as possible. When she’s physically cleared by her doctors she plans a stunt – outside the knowing of Wilder and Nova – to see if she’s ready to go back being REBEL and part of the Renegades again, and that’s when she meets Cruz. The attraction is immediately present between them and she feels like Cruz can ‘see HER, Penna’ and he’s the first one ever to make an impact of this level on her.
Even though Cruz is still a complete stranger to her, she opens herself up to him and he decides to go along with this crazy girl’s plan; jumping of a high ..
After all, he jumped plenty of times in the past when he was serving as a soldier so he could do this, right? Right. And he was too intrigued by Penna to leave her hanging now. He needed more time with her and see where this was going. So he’s jumping. And then they end up in a hotel room, ready to explore more of that attraction between them and then they end up in jail because of the stunt they pulled. Suck balls big time. They separate ways – not necessarily willingly at that point but there’s nothing to be done about it – and don’t think they’ll see each other again very soon until Cruz ends up as Penna’s teacher on the boat; BOOM!
From there on it turns into a roller-coaster ride of a developing romance that shouldn’t and couldn’t exist – Teacher-Student relations are strictly forbidden-, Penna trying to find the Rebel in herself again and starting to do more stunts with the Renegades which doesn’t always sit well with Cruz because he starts caring for her too much too soon and seeing her do stunts like that, makes him scared as hell. Then there’s also the matter of Cruz’s secret; the reason he really shouldn’t get involved with Penna because that’ll endanger everything he worked for in the past years. But the heart wants what it wants and since Penna and Cruz are forced to spent a lot of time together, somewhere along the line they’re bound to snap and not being able to resist each other anymore, with all it’s consequences..
PENNA ‘REBEL’
Penna is a character I couldn’t compare myself with on some level since I’m not a thrill seeker myself haha but I loved her all the same. I love how strong she is on so many levels, how determined when she wants to do something, how strong headed she is and a real ‘Rebel-the name fits her perfectly!’ and at the same time how fragile she can be as well on the inside. She grew up in a boys-world and had to fight for everything she got but she succeeded and that’s really awesome! Penna is a kick-ass character I’ve come to love so much and couldn’t get enough of. I think it shows tremendous character that she opens up to Cruz the way she does – because he sees who she really is underneath the ‘REBEL’ part of her and gets her on a level not even her Renegade brothers do – that she’s putting herself out there for him because she feels he’s a risk worth taking – which he truly is, damn!
CRUZ
He has every element of an amazing book boyfriend! He’s supportive but not submissive. He knows when to bring out that caveman attitude – and when he does? OMFG.. your panties will melt at the spot and leave you a blubbering mewling mess of female hormones, about to burst, truly – and when to be sympathetic and understanding. This makes him a perfect match for the strong willed Penna. He’s loyal to his family, he served his country, he’s smart and sexy. There really isn’t one thing not to like about Cruz and Rebecca created the perfect counterpart for Penna without him being too much, you know? She really couldn’t have done a greater job, because Cruz fits Penna and this story so so sooo well without being overwhelming or putting Penna in the dark.
And of course a lot of already familiar characters return in this book as well, so you get to look forward to that too, yay! You’re going to love it! I love Penna’s brotherly relationship with Wilder, Nova and Nick. And I loved seeing these 4 Original Renegades together, that was something we had to miss for the most parts of the first two books. So that was definitely a nice surprise.
ROMANCE.
The romance is.. abso-freaking-lutely amaaaaaaaaazing. It’s everything I was hoping for and more and it’s a characteristic Rebecca Yarros romance and for those who already read some of her books; you now definitely know what to expect and you know you won’t be disappointed in the least hehe. For those of you who haven’t read anything by Rebecca yet.. Let me introduce you to one of the best angst-written, intense and beautifully breathtaking romances you’ll ever read and Rebecca always knows how to deliver when it comes to these amazing developed romances.
Cruz and Penna’s romance is intense, right from the start and even more so when they find out they officially can’t be together even though they both desperately want to – They see each other a lot and they can’t have each other. Hello cruel world!!!! And because this romance doesn’t start out that way, this is sooo much more then a Teacher-Student romance. Because when they meet they don’t know they’ll end up as Teacher-Student. But I absolutely loved the forbidden Teacher-Student aspects of this romance, I’m a sucker for these romances hehe and Rebecca is a master in build ups so yeah; you’ll experience so much feelings while reading this, damn. It’s addictive and excruciating at the same time haha. At certain parts in the book my heart was ready to com-bust and I was having trouble containing my emotions. Rebecca knows so so well how to build up to those moments, when everything falls apart. And god, those moments.. It tears you apart and you crave for more at the same time. I’m always having trouble writing about Rebecca’s writing and her romances because they are so intense, beautiful and I just can’t put down in words what her writing does to me. Her characters and their romances grab my heart and soul and never let go again. Cruz and Penna are one hell of a power-couple and show you the true meaning of love at it’s purest and sacrificing for that love.
CONCLUSION.
Everything – and I truly mean EVERYTHING. Because there’s something going on in the first chapter that still sends my fangirl heart into overdrive thinking about it. I even had to PM Rebecca (actually, I pm’ed her several times while reading the book but okay, lol. Couldn’t contain my fangirl outbursts buwhaha) while reading the book to tell her how freaking genius she is for writing that in there. It was the most wonderful surprise ever..You’ll know what I mean when you’re there 😉 – comes full circle and Rebecca gave this trilogy one hell of an impressive and phenomenal last installment, damn.
This might be my favorite of all three renegades books, which is saying something because NOVA and especially WILDER were absolutely phenomenal reads already. And Rebecca seriously NEVER EVER disappoints. She has a gift for making you FEEL alive when reading her books. You really feel as if you are living everything the characters are experiencing, in such an intense way you can’t stop reading or thinking about anything else.
I loved the fact we had a female Renegade in the spotlights with this one because Rebecca’s female characters are at least just as interesting and strong and phenomenally written like her male heroes. And whether it’s her military heroes or the stuntmen of this series.. They’re hot as hell, funny, smart, enchanting and addictive, each in his own way. And Cruz for example, who has all the lovable elements of a military man with just the right amount of interest in playing with stunts; He’s the combination of Rebecca’s Flyboys and her Renegade boys and I want to go down on my knees and kiss the earth she walks on to worship her. Rebecca’s characters are diverse and all extremely well developed throughout every book I’ve read, even in the novella’s she knew how to write well developed characters, romances and story-lines which is something not many authors pull off well, but Rebecca does. Every aspect of the book is perfectly developed and written. The story, the romance, the characters.. It just all connects, it’s in balance with each other and that complete package of those elements combined just works so well with that amazing writing style Rebecca owns.
I’m truly sad this was the last book of the Renegades, because I crave so much more. It was impossible for me to stop reading at slow speed even though I wanted to because I just didn’t want it to end. But there’s just no stopping the roller-coaster here. Once you’re in, you’re in and there’s no way to slow it down. This book gave me such a ‘high’ while reading it, and I’m always amazed by Rebecca’s talent. Not only the stunts were an adventure to read, but there are a lot of other things – romantically wise but story-wise as well – bound to happen in this book that’ll leave you at the edge of your seat, ready to com-bust. There’s angst, there’s family love, there’s adventure, there’s action, there’s some really hot sexiness between the lead characters going on which make your panties melt and then there’s an epilogue.. THE epilogue of all epilogues.. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Cruz and Penna are going to take you on one hell of a ride and you’ll never know what’s going to hit you until it’s too late and you’re right in the middle of this amazing emotional mess that’s going to turn your world upside down.
Soo, if you haven’t met the Renegades yet, please do so ASAP. These books – to be honest; all of Rebecca’s books – are must reads for anyone who likes to be swept away with heart wrenching romances, amazing characters and angst-written story-lines that’ll leave you breathless! So the only thing left for you to do now is BUY, BUY, BUY ALL THE BOOKS!!! Rebel publishes on August 28th, so pre-order it now and have it delivered to you on the 28th. It's no secret that I'm a fan of Rebecca Yarros' writing. Her stories generally hit your emotions exactly where you need them to and Rebel did exactly that. This is how you close a series, saving the the best 'til last and making your reader shed a little tear they never even saw coming.
"I’d never given a shit about rules. They called me Rebel for a reason."
The Professor/student trope is one of my absolute favourites as I love the forbidden that comes with the territory and, whilst I'll be honest in that I think that aspect was a bit underplayed, there's no denying that Cruz and Penna are a perfect match. Because not only does their story bring secrecy, risk and romance, but it delivers a good dose of action and the unexpected.
"I’d rather have these stolen moments with you than have a normal relationship with anyone else."
I loved these characters as individuals and as a couple and both were fantastically portrayed. Their first meeting was intense giving us a taster of all the delicious possibilities, yet following their reacquaintance things slow to a natural pace, building tension fitting their circumstance. Penna and Cruz are good for one another in every possible way and I appreciated the fact that despite all their fighting it, they realise this and accept their feelings despite the consequences of being found out.
"I’m not supposed to think about you, dream about you, wonder what you’re doing or who you’re with. But I do."
Naturally Rebel wouldn't have been the read it was without the supporting characters who brought depth and adventure to the story and a good share of the emotion, although I can't deny that I think an opportunity has been missed in not giving Nick his story because he's much more involved this time around and I loved him. But overall this was a superb conclusion to The Renegades series, for an epilogue junkie such as myself the epilogue was gold, Cruz Delgado has stolen Josh Walker's crown as my favourite Rebecca Yarros hero, and I look forward to seeing what she brings us next.
Two years ago I picked up my first Rebecca Yarros book and fell in love with her Flight & Glory series and her amazing writing. Since that first book each book as been better than the last. Each story she writes has emotion and heart. Her books leave you breathless.
I have loved each book in the Renegade series but Rebel has been my absolute favorite. I love her tenacity and spirit. I love how she defeats the odds in a male dominant sport proving she’s one bada** woman. I love her passion and fire and how she gives her whole heart. I just loved everything about her.
Rebecca took us on an emotional journey. It was sweet & sexy. Passionate and full of heart. It was about family and togetherness. There was adventure and mystery. It was one book I flew through the pages and couldn’t get enough.
Cruz is one of those men you fall for instantly. He’s sweet and considerate with a heart of gold. He pushes Rebel and she pushes right back. They balance each other out. I love their passion and fire. Their chemistry was more than physical which just made their story that much better.
This book with pull at the heartstrings and leave you craving for your own group of Renegades. It will leave you fulfilled with a giant smile on your face. It will make your heart happy.
Rebecca Yarros is one of my go to authors because her stories make me feel real emotions. She is an amazing writer and this book just adds to her exceptional work.
