For the most part, "How to Marry a Marquess" was very good. A few minor issues but thing to take away from the historical romance.

An interesting book about the seedier side of the Regency Era often ignored in many books. The fallen and how many are not even aware they exist is basic to this story. The main characters are well developed and this is a very good installment in this series.

How to Marry a Marquess is a hot, sexy read with loads of emo and some unusual twists.

Evie does just as she wants, and as she’s pretty, she’s popular with society, even when she turns down every suitor. Richard is a man who sees beyond his wealth and title, giving it all up in order to help out his illegitimate daughter and her friends. When Evie decides she wants Richard, there will clearly be a stormer of a courtship.

I enjoyed it but it’s not Regency fiction where the characters and the plot are restricted by the mores of the day; it’s a modern romance set in costume. I find that kind of read a bit more difficult as I prefer historical accuracy. But it was good fun escapism and given that so many people liked Mr Darcy jumping into the lake, How to Marry a Marquess is bound to hit the spot.

I received a copy from the Publisher via NetGalley and am reviewing voluntarily.

“How to Marry a Marquess”, the third book in the Wedded by Scandal series starts off quite dramatically and the pace doesn’t let up for the whole of the story. Whilst this is a stand-alone novel, characters from past stories appear, adding to the appeal for readers who have followed the series. Lady Evie Chesterfield, who appears in “Accidentally Compromising the Duke”, has been in love with Richard Maitland, the Marquess of Westfall, for six years. The spark of attraction begins when they meet when Evie is 16 and since then, both have been captivated with the other. However, Evie is a darling of the ton and Richard, despite his title, has been shunned after acknowledging his illegitimate daughter. This has not dissuaded Evie and once it becomes apparent that her family will force her to marry someone other than Richard, she seeks out Richard, hoping that he will marry her. What begins to tear their friendship apart, is Richard’s belief that any feelings they have for each other will be destroyed by society’s rejection of them.
Both Richard and Evie are two strong characters but at times I wanted to shake some sense into Richard. To make the reader feel such intensity and to immerse you so immediately into the story that you want to give advice, is a sign of a clever writer. Ms Reid makes you want to discover what motivates these characters. This was a great read – you won’t be disappointed.

This is another great book by Stacy Reid. How to Marry a Marquess is the third installment of the Wedded by Scandal series. This is a stand-alone novel so you do not have to have read the first two. For those who have read Accidentally Compromising the Duke, Westfall and Evie finally get their HEA. The author does a great job of giving us the past history of these characters without drawing things out. The love and passion between these two characters is profound. The witty banter between the lead characters makes for a delightful read. The book is well written and edited.
This is the story of Lady Evie Gladstone and Richard, Marquess of Westfall. They meet just before her come out in 1812 and while there is a spark from the beginning they are friends first. She is the little sister of his friend. The majority of the book takes place in 1818. Westfall has hardened his heart since he was betrayed by his first love and disowned by his family. Evie has long had a single minded desire to marry him but she is a diamond in the Ton and even though he desires her he feels they could never marry. I was impressed by the plot twists and how the story came together. I highly recommend book.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

An enjoyable storyline, a bit different from the normal regency romance. Did not like the first few pages - a bit racy for me - but thereafter, the book settled into being a pleasant read with interesting characters.

The first four to five chapters are delightful to read, and I adore both characters, Evie and Richard, very much, since they're people who are honest about their feelings, especially the feelings they have for each other. Their story is interesting and the way it developed make me feel their pain and their longing to be together, especially Richard. Since the first chapter it was explained how Evie is the only person Richard could not help but to care, and in the end to love

Evie is also a good heroine to the hero in Richard. Evie is like the balancer in Richard's life, and I could see that Evie had that good effect on Richard. Evie is not a damsel in distress and she's a strong woman through and through, and that's why I think I like her so much when reading the book

So why the three stars? I don't have any problem with the plot itself, or the way it was executed. I have the problem with the hero itself who sounded more like a petulant child who didn't have better thing to do than to doubt the woman he's supposed to be in love with. Everything Evie said sounded like a lie to him so it's beyond me when he actually decided to marry Evie, just because he realized he couldn't live with her after she almost died. It's like the problem is solved in an instant, without any real conclusion to the real problems of the main couple. This is why I always think that the 'I realize I love you when you almost die" plot is too overused, therefore it didn't feel genuine to me when Richard suddenly decide to marry Evie, since even her outburst didn't even let him think that Evie is a genuine woman who wouldn't condemn his life, or more important his daughter

Despite my protest, I do enjoy reading the book, though I felt annoyed at Richard in the middle of the book. But Emily is so cute, I decided to forgive all his misgivings

This novel was a bit different than I expected but still a nice read. It brings to life the darker parts of society during this time period. Many people were ignorant and did not understand what true poverty is.
Lady Evie Chesterfield have been in love with Richard Maitland for six years. She is the darling of the ton and ignorant to what is beyond the balls. She treasures her friendship with Richard and has denied suitors due to her love for him. However, her family now requires her to marry after years of dissuading suitors. She seeks out Richard to teach her the art of seduction.
Richard was a second son but the death of his brother made him the Marquess of Westfall. He was ignorant to the ways of society until he discovered a secret that had been kept from him for years. Since then, he has controlled his rakish ways and does several things to help the poor. He has loved Evie for six years, but knows she cannot accept his life and the rejections and disgust he receives from society.
Evie begins to see beyond the mirages of society and wants to help Richard. She continued her relationship with Richard despite being told not to. Richard knows Evie could not fit into his world and tries to dissuade her, but Evie has a mind of her own. Going against social norms is terrifying, but knowing someone stands by you makes it worth acknowledging what is right.
