Call to Redemption by Tawny Weber is the third book in the Team Poseidon and the second book from the series I've read. Last year I also read the second book, Call to Engage, and gave it the same rating that I have given Call to Redemption. It may be helpful to have read the other books in the series as there are some secondary storylines that carry on from previous books but I think most readers would be able to read Call to Redemption as a stand-alone.
I have read quite a few of Tawny Weber's books and Call to Redemption was one of the better books of hers that I have read but it wasn't without problems. Clearly, I am in the minority as this book has a surprising rating of 4.45 on Goodreads so feel free to take this review with a pinch of salt.
My main issues with this book was the plot and pacing. Call to Redemption was a contemporary romance with a touch of suspense which was unexpected. The first 40% of this novel was focused on the holiday where Nic and Darby meet. It was unbelievably slow. Just them having sex and chatting which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that they had agreed to share zero personal information with each other. This leads to pages of internal monologue as to why they cannot have a proper relationship etc. This also lead to the romance feeling rushed towards the end as all the truths and feelings came gushing out.
This book got a lot more interesting when the holiday was over and real life took over. Seeing Nic and Darby back to their normal existence gave me as a reader a lot more insight to them as characters. The legal storyline and the mystery surrounding it was also a lot more interesting then reading page after page of a holiday where they don't do anything interesting apart from take some phone calls and have sex.
The trial and legal stuff was by far the best part of this story and it was enough to cause the conflict in Darby and Nic's relationship. He is a defendant accused of treason and she is a prosecutor, that dynamic mostly (apart from Darby being an idiot and I will get to that later) work. If that had been it I would have had a lot more love for this book but Weber throws everything but the kitchen sink at them to try and disrupt the romance. There is a horrible mother, a dead brother, a moron of an ex boyfriend, their work ethics and a whole barrage of personal issues that get in the way. It was too much.
The characters were fine. I liked Nic more than Darby but I didn't particularly connect with either of them. Darby was a real issue at times. She is supposed to be spunky and smart but she came across as a self assured, power hungry idiot. My big problem with her and this book is her ethics. This book goes to great lengths to show how important Darby's job is to her. When she returns home to find that the man she will be trying to put in jail for the rest of her life is the same one she has been shacking up with for the last week she says nothing to her superior. She tells herself that it is not a conflict of interest...it clearly is and is totally unprofessional. But it doesn't end there. Darby, a woman so focused on her career and proud of her work ethics then knowingly starts sleeping with Nic again. Not just once, for a week. This completely undermines her as a strong professional woman and is completely out of character.
As I mention, this book is very popular with most readers. Maybe I just didn't get it, I don't know but in the end this book just didn't work for me.

Ms. Weber has redeemed herself (I gave the previous book in this series 1 star).
Darby and Nic were hot in Hawaii, and when they eventually hooked back up at home. Loved how the whole team worked with Darby to find the bad guy. I'm happy the bad guy gotten taken care of and not stretched out through a bunch more books. I'm looking forward to another Poseidon adventure.

The men of Poseidon are some of my favorites. I’ve been waiting to read Nic’s book, because I didn’t want them to end. The mystery was solved, a great man got an equally awesome woman, and all is right in this world.

4.75 stars-- CALL TO REDEMPTION is the third full-length instalment in Tawny Weber’s contemporary, adult TEAM POSEIDON romantic, military suspense series focusing on the Navy’s elite Poseidon SEAL team. This is Lieutenant Commander Dominic ‘Nic’ Savino, and assistant US attorney Darby Raye’s story line. CALL TO REDEMPTION can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order as there is an on-going premise throughout.
SOME BACKGROUND: When their latest mission in Afghanistan goes horribly wrong, leaving one member injured and one man missing and presumed dead, the Team comes under suspicion when military secrets are discovered in the hands of the enemy. Betrayal and vengeance find the SEALs facing court martial including the take down of their Lieutenant Commander and the dismantling of the Poseidon Team.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Darby and Nic) CALL TO REDEMPTION follows the building relationship between Lieutenant Commander Dominic ‘Nic’ Savino, and assistant US attorney Darby Raye. While on vacation in Hawaii, Nic Savino will come face to face with his future, a woman who offers a no-strings attached vacation affair, but a woman that will call to our hero’s heart. Upon his return home, Nic Savino will discover that Darby Raye, the woman with whom he was falling in love ,is a member of the JAG’s office trying to destroy his team and his career. What ensues is the search for the truth, the build up of information, and the potential fall-out if their continuing relationship becomes public knowledge.
CALL TO REDEMPTION and the POSEIDON series is a story of jealousy, betrayal, and revenge; a intelligent tale about the take down of one of the US Navy SEALs most elite and powerful Teams; and a story of redemption, friendship, vindication and love. Searching for the truth, our heroine will uncover some potential heart breaking information for the man that she loves, while his Team ferrets the people responsible at the top The premise is intriguing, suspense filled and hopeful; the characters are strong, charismatic and colorful; the romance is seductive and forbidden. CALL TO REDEMPTION reads like the final instalment in Tawny Weber’s amazing TEAM POSEIDON series-here’s hoping for many more stories to come.

Tawny Weber does it again, grabs onto you on the very first page and keeps you hooked to the last. Book #3 in her Team Poseidon series is an excellent read and it gets 5 stars from this reader/reviewer.
The Prologue starts off with a stunner--Lieutenant Commander Dominic (Nic) Savino stands accused of conduct unbecoming an officer, disobeying orders and as if those weren't serious enough charges, conspiracy to commit treason. If you've been following this series, as I have, you read that line and say aloud, "What? Not Nic! Not the fearless leader of Team Poseidon, loyal, strong, gorgeous and brave! That's not possible!" I was hooked!
Chapter One starts two months earlier, where we meet Assistant U.S. Attorney, Darby Raye, at a resort in Hawaii, on the first vacation she's been on in years, as she spots Nic sitting at the bar. To say that Darby is driven to succeed at her job is putting it mildly, she's a total workaholic and is perfectly content with the knowledge that her job is her life. She just ended a rather irritating relationship with Paul Thomas, also an attorney climbing the ladder of success, but it wasn't a love match, at best he was convenient. When she broke off her 9-month long relationship with him, he wasn't pleased. But now she's in Hawaii, staring at gorgeous Nic, who's on the first vacation he's been on in years, forced into it by his Admiral, while his SEAL team members are trying to help figure out who is behind the charges against him, who caused the death of one of his team members, and the horrible disfigurement of another. When he spots Darby sitting alone, he's attracted, and isn't afraid to do something about it.
While I'm not a fan of insta-love, it's not an issue in this novel--instead we have insta-lust, and two people forced by their careers to take a breather, and who are wildly attracted to one another. After chatting briefly and a walk on the beach, they agree to share a short-term, sex-only, vacation fling, one with conditions--they will be on a first-name basis only, they will not discuss their pasts, their jobs, their families, or their issues, they won't exchange addresses or phone numbers either, and, once their vacations end, they will go their separate ways. The agreement is made, and what follows is something Ms. Weber also excels at--incredibly steamy sex scenes, but there's already more than just physical attraction between these two, they seem to be cut from the same cloth, making the insta-lust and hot sex more than just sex--they really begin to connect emotionally, although they've already agreed not to. There's something else Ms. Weber excels at, and it's writing wonderful, crisp, snappy and sharp dialogue, and in this novel, what drives the relationship between Nic and Darby forward isn't just sex, it's how these two characters really relate to one another verbally from the start.
What neither character knows at this point is that they each possess secrets that will devastate the other. Darby doesn't know that Nic is a SEAL. Darby's brother died while trying to get through SEAL BUD/S training, nearly killing her mother with grief at the loss of her firstborn and favorite child. Nic doesn't know that Darby will soon be prosecuting the case against him for treason. And when Nic is suddenly called back into service before his vacation is up, he assumes he'll never see Darby again although he wants to. Darby also leaves the island ahead of schedule, and wishes that they'd at least exchanged phone numbers, because what they had together was simply too good to give up.
Once off the island, Ms. Weber takes us deeper into what's happening with Nic's SEAL team and with their attempts to discover who the traitor in their midst really is and who betrayed them. If you've read the previous novels in this series, and I strongly suggest that you do, you already know that one of the traitors is in lockup but thinks they can't touch him. There are obviously others involved, and before Nic ends up court-martialed and imprisoned, the team needs to find out who else is involved in this conspiracy, and wow, what a tangled web of intrigue it is. The alternating points of view in which this novel is told make for one heck of an additive, action- and emotion-packed read, which is why I read this excellent page-turner from cover to cover in one sitting.
While I won't give any spoilers, I will say that the blending of the suspense, intrigue, mystery and romance in this novel are first-rate, and I couldn't put it down. It can be read as a standalone, but to really get the entire picture and understand the dynamics of Team Poseidon, start at the beginning with Call to Honor.
My only issue with the novel is that in addition to having a prologue, I wish it also had an epilogue, but if I explained why I feel that way I'd give away the ending, so I'll simply state that it's because I often feel that way. I'd love to have seen what happens to these two wonderfully drawn characters a couple of months into their future. All in all, it's an excellent read, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

Once again, Weber has woven a tale with just the right balance of romance and suspense. I love the setup--with Nic Savino being the fall guy for a plot to bring down Team Poseidon, and the woman he had a wild fling with, US Attorney Darby Raye, being the woman to lead the charge. Both characters are well-balanced in this fast-paced page-turner. Attraction is a powerful force, and Nic and Darby aren't immune to the pull they have toward one another, but both know that duty trumps personal entanglements most of the time. This is also a cautionary tale that there's really no such thing as a no-strings affair ... so beware. :)

4 1/2 STARS!
Instant attraction, sizzling chemistry and a steamy vacation fling! With the next book in her Team Poseidon series, Tawny Weber does not disappoint! Nic and Darby are a joy to read, and when real life comes out to play, they must find their way through a dangerous situation in order to find their happily ever after. Strong characters and a culmination of intrigue that has been building throughout the series brings us to a peak that will change the team forever. Great addition to a fun series!
When NavySEAL and Team Poseidon leader Nic Savino is forced to take some downtime, he heads to his favorite vacation spot to decompress and enjoy a slice of paradise. An instant spark with a fellow vacationer leads to a promise of no strings fun for the duration of his time there.
Assistant US attorney Darby Raye can't believe that when she gets back home after the vacation fling of a lifetime that her mystery lover is all of a sudden public enemy number one and on her docket! She finds it hard to believe that the kind-hearted man that she met in Paradise is a traitor to his country and teammates. When they secretly reconnect to try to figure out who is framing him and why, will it lead to a happy ending or will she lose her job as well as her man when he's found guilty?

Overall this is one of the better books I've read this year. I read this in one very late-night sitting, but I couldn't stop until I was done. It was that good. Nic and Darby were great characters and had lots of chemistry.

I loved this book. It was more a legal thriller than a seal book. I am now going to look for all of her books in this series. It hooked me from page one

Poseidon SEAL Team leader, Dominic (Nic) Savino, is on a brief holiday and develops this intense sexual relationship with the hottest lady he's ever dreamed of: Darby Raye. Suddenly recalled to duty, his dreams threaten to become his biggest nightmare ever. His life and both his and his team's future all hang in the balance. Digging deeply into the team's history and former communications to uncover a traitor. Who is the betrayer? How has this lady gained power over his life? Can they unravel the traitor's identity before their future is taken from them?
Tawny Weber is known for her hunky SEALS, with complex personalities, extensive training, specialized skills, and hot hard bodies set in steamy settings and building plenty of fires. This book is no exception to that principal; however, she's developed a female character in Darby Raye to challenge even the toughest SEAL. As they play out this courtroom drama, you're longing to judge both these characters as drool-worthy candidates. Add it to your must read list today. With so much at stake, I HIGHLY recommend this book.

This was a great followup in the series. Call to Redemption was full of romance and suspense. The drama between Darby and Nic was fingernail biting good. Tawny Weber writes great characters, and the book kept me interested the whole way through. The mystery keeps building. I enjoyed this book!

I have read a plenty of Tawny Weber books and I like her style of writing. She writes some of the smoothest seduction scenes, her characters are well thought out, and the plot is energetic and intriguing. And in the whole bunch that I have read, in my opinion, Call To Redemption is her best story so far.
First, the plot is built so well. The prologue catches the attention and brings the tension and fear, or sort of worry, into the prime. Then comes the seduction of mind, body, and soul where the romance gets its spark, where the feelings have time to linger, where the foundation for the relationship is laid out. And just when you are all warm and fuzzy with the sweetness and fervor of the allurement, the plot twist takes you back to the intense military world, to the suspicion of all your peers around you, to the danger of losing your career, your life as you know it, the new budding romance that was developing, even fatality is a possibility.
The story has much more military life and protocol than the previous books, and I loved how thought out and realistic the details were. The loyalty, the brotherhood, the willingness to risk your life for your mission, for your team, and for your country is underlined in every action the team takes.
There was just more of everything in this story. Ms. Weber even intensified the emotions and seduction from the previous powerful fierceness. The conflicts between the main characters were heartbreaking, yet believable and true.
Lieutenant Commander Nic Savino has been a strong secondary character in the previous novels in the series, yet here we get to learn him intimately. He shows what makes him tick, his loyalties, his perfectionism, the sacrifices he has made, and the responsibilities he carries. He is a man who is easy to admire and look up to, he is his own worst critique, his code of conduct is unapproachable. And that is why the accusations of the criminal actions cut so deep.
Assistant US attorney Darby Raye has a lot of common with Nic. She aims for the best, the brightest, and the perfection with everything she does. Work is what she is living for, her career is what is worth her time and energy, rest will have to come later. Until Nic comes to her life, and everything changes. She is challenged in a way that will stretch her loyalties and professionalism, yet the risks she is taking might just be worth it.
Call To Redemption has delightful storytelling with sharp, strong, and vivid images, compelling characters that you want to root for, emotions that range from dread and terror to glee and thrill, a captivating and enthralling tale that was hard to put down.

The third book in the Team Poseidon trilogy and I have to say it doesn't disappoint because I've read the previous two stories and it's just as AWESOME!
Tawny captures the SEAL image perfectly and it's one of the many reasons I enjoy her books. The SEALS are teamed up with sassy and wonderfully minded females who push them to the edge and back again and you're just flipping through trying to read as fast as you possibly can to gobble up all the adventure!
Nic and Darby have an amazing adventure and I didn't want it to end.
LOVED IT!

Rating 4.5/5*
This is the third book in the Team Poseidon trilogy and I couldn’t wait to read this as I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the previous two in the series - Call to Honor and Call to Engage. Each story has focussed on one of the members of this elite team of SEALs and their romance but each also follows the developing intrigue regarding just who is the traitor sabotaging their missions and framing members of the team in the process. The betrayal has already had deadly consequences and now charges are being threatened against the team leader, Lieutenant Commander Dominic (Nic) Savino. He is ordered to take leave and travels to stay in the luxury resort owned and run by his Uncle and family. Whilst there he encounters a feisty red-haired beauty, Darby, and the two agree to a holiday fling. With attraction between the two growing, both consider asking to extend their relationship, to give their love a chance, but fate intervenes…repeatedly!
Nic is devastated when he discovers that his Darby is actually Darby Rave, an assistant US Attorney who is leading the investigation to destroy Poseidon and all its members. The case could help her gain promotion, but she realises that if Nic isn’t guilty then powerful people are endeavouring to bring him down . . . . Can she trust her feelings for him? Can she help prove who the traitor really is?
This is a fast paced, action packed and enthralling conclusion to a brilliant series that I have enjoyed from start to finish. It is a story of team work, determination, betrayal, treason, deception and fighting for what is right. This is a brilliant read and I have no hesitation in recommending the whole series to anyone who enjoys superbly crafted romantic suspense with well developed characters and an intriguing plot to keep you guessing.
I requested and received a copy of this novel, via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.

Oh Wow! This story started off hot and heavy with the chemistry between Dominic and Darby sizzling and so romantic. Then, real life intrudes and the mystery and conspiracy begins and I was so anxious for Dominic. I was torn between wanting to put the book down because I was so nervous about how his life would play out but I just couldn't because I wanted to know what was happening. My poor heart. I'm always so nervous reading suspensful romances. LOL. And Darby! First she was in, then she was out, waffling between what was more important to her. Her career or love? Sometimes I just wanted to slap some sense into her but that's my impatience at seeing the HEA achieved. Overall, a very enjoyable read with a very satisfying ending.

Tawny Weber's Team Poseidon novels are some of my favorites and Call To Redemption has surpassed them all. Nic and Darby's story has everything you could want in a good romance: suspense, steamy sex scenes, strong/smart heroine, family, love. Its a page turning, temperature raising romance. Besides the romance, its well written and has an amazing storyline. To anyone who has any interest in the genre read Tawny Weber.
