Light is part of the Physical Sciences series for young readers by Mary Lindeen. Children learn about light, and the ways it is formed, as well as different types of light. Light can be used for many things too. As a way of helping us see, and helping animals communicate or hunt. Like others in the series, this one has simple, easy to read sentences, and provides grounding in basic scientific concepts in ways young readers can grasp. The end of the book features a Connecting Concepts section with questions to ask about the reading, and practise with vocabulary and reading fluency. My cubs and I enjoyed reading this book.

Light, by Mary Lindeen is an informative, non-fiction book that provides an interesting way for children to learn about various principles of light. It is also an early reader book so will help to reinforce reading skills as well. At the back of the book it lists the high frequency words as well as content words that can be pre-taught or discussed if the book is being read aloud. There are facts given during the reading accompanied by photos as well as sections called "Did you Know". The section at the back for parents and teachers gives questions for further discussion, resources for further investigation as well as suggestions of activities to reinforce concepts. A good book for a primary classroom studying light.

Light by Mary Lindeen is a nonfiction story for young learners and readers, using photographs and appropriate vocabulary to explain how we use light. As in other books by this author/advisor pair, the resources for the parent/caregiver are thorough and helpful, from books and websites to review, content words to practice and scientific terms for understanding. However, I might have used different/additional terms, such as bioluminescence and used a few more connection pieces, such as when describing the word opaque. I am not certain I would use this book in my preschool science classroom.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview Light.

Light: Physical Science, by Mary Lindeen is an informative book that provides a fun way for children to learn about various aspects of light.

As a part of the Read and Discover Science series, this book encourages children to learn about scientific subjects while working on their reading skills. According to a note from the publisher: "The series can be used with beginning readers to practice high-frequency words, academic language, and to expand comprehension of life, earth, and physical science."

Within thirty-two pages, there are interesting science facts and Did You Know sidebars intermixed with full-color images. Also, there are sections titled as How Have You Used Light Today, Connecting Concepts, and Word List.

Light is a children's non-fiction picture book that's geared toward kindergartners to third graders.

Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers to write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
