This book was just too cheesy. Then again, I knew it was going to be, but everything about it is downright predictable and cliche. It's a case of instalove, except Deliah and Jack have known each other their entire lives. The writing was very TELL, not SHOW, which I am against, and they just said things no normal teenager would. Also, was Jack the older brother or twin brother of Zoe? And i get that Zoe and Deliah are bffs, but if someone tells you a secret and asks you not to tell anybody, even your best friend that 1.) means it's pretty serious and 2.) you shouldn't freak out on him and tell him it's rude or something because it isn't your secret to share. That being said, I did appreciate all the dog loving in this book. |

Sadly this one missed the mark for me. I had a hard time understanding these characters. |

First of all - yes Jack was a major jerk. Especially when it came to Delia telling him she wanted to keep Aidan's secret and that they weren't interested in each other romantically. I liked that Delia was strong and although she did not have the perfect family or house it was perfect for them. Her job at Betty's was unique and seemed to fit her. Zoe, Jack's sister and Delia's best friend, seems like she could have a book just for her and Grant. I'd also like to hear more about Trevor (and Rocky). Aidan, I had issues with him. Delia was doing her best to be a good friend and he just seemed really immature and at times mean to her. Jack was as well and that put me off him from the start. The way he treated her at the end regarding the secret was just awful. If he didn't trust her then he shouldn't have been with her. Seemed the only reason he went back to her was he figured out the secret. I would have liked to seen him go back before figuring it out. I received a free ebook in exchange for an honest review. |
Most books from Entangled Teen (Crush) are cute reads and this was no exception. They're fun and easy to read. A perfect choice for me to read between fantasies or more serious books. Delia is a bit annoying at times, but I love that she's cool with standing out. She has pink streaks in her hair and does weird things with make-up. She's artsy and isn't really afraid to be herself. I loved that about her. Her family life isn't great, but she makes the best out of it. Jack is kind of an ass. But he did lose his dad and grandpa in an accident and only has girls left in his family. He seemed a bit afraid to live life at times. But he's a dog lover and that made him much better to me. He's also close to his friend, Trevor, and that made him more likable. I actually liked the other characters and would have loved to read more about them. Aiden could be a pain and was a bit boring, but I liked him more once we knew his secret. I was kind of pleasantly surprised to find that this book took place in Illinois. Not only that, but Canton, IL. My daughter moved to Pekin last year and I'm pretty sure her boyfriend's mom lives in Canton. I've never been there, but it was cool to have that connection when reading. I liked Jack and Delia together, but not as much as I hoped. I do think they bring out good things in each other and I really liked the ending. I especially loved the dog stories throughout the book. Overall, this was a 3 1/2+ star book for me (rounded it up to 4 stars). I received a copy of this book from Entangled Teen through Netgalley for review. Boomerang Boyfriend is set to be released September 11, 2017. (I have the review scheduled for my blog August 30th) |
This book was absolutely adorable in every way. Who doesn’t at some point fantasize about your brother’s best friend? Sometimes the best things are right in front of you and you don’t even know it. Chris Cannon did a very good job of showing us this concept in Boomerang Boyfriend. We meet Zoe and her best friend Delia. Delia is always at their house because her parents are always working, she’s always around her brother too, Jack. But they have a sister/brother vibe, that is until things change and they begin to see each other in a new light. Many girls throughout time have always fantasized about their best friend’s brother, especially if he was older and good looking. But to see these two awkwardly grown into that stage was adorable. Jack seems like an average kind of guy, going with the flow of things although he is going through some things of his own. The book wasn’t very serious but I wouldn’t have minded if they touched upon some of those feelings a little more. I think it would have bought him out more and made him a stronger character. Jack was definitely a little aloof and well very high school boyish. There were times I wanted to smack him upside the head for being so dense about things, but again he is just a boy. Delia wasn’t much better either though at times you wanted to knock some sense into her, although I think this is why I enjoyed the books. The characters truly seemed like their age, they didn’t pretend to be older, do more adult things everything was pretty innocent and adorable and simplistic. Yes they all had background issues with family or about family but they didn’t let it rule their lives. Even the secondary characters such as Aiden had something going for him. It’s hard keeping secrets for friends but even harder when it starts to disrupt relationships you are trying to grow. Overall the book was good, I liked it. The characters were believable as high schoolers. The story was interesting and the read was very quick and fun. I wouldn’t mind finding out more about Jack’s best friend though, perhaps the next book in the series? |
So this book is a YA fluffy-romance contemporary. Recently I have been craving for some easy-read books so I was thrilled when I saw an email with a copy if this! This book is about Delia, a highschool student who has a bestfriend, Zoe, that has a hot and gorgeous brother, Jack. Delia and Zoe were bestfriends since they were kids, but she weren't very much fond of Jack because she sees him as a jerk and Jack, on the other hand, sees Delia as an annoying sister. But Delia got hired on a restaurant wherein Jack is currently working, and Jack's Art class was merged into Delia's plus holidays came which means more hanging out with Zoe on their house and before they knew it the law of proximity in attraction hits them on the right places. I really like Delia's character, she's edgy and expressive and trust-worthy. She's my favorite character on this book. It's a little tricky when it comes to Jack, because there are times that he owned his title of being a jerk. I do understand where he is coming from considering what he's gone through with his family and stuff but his actions towards Delia where kind of leading me to thinking that he just want a fling. But what I like most about him is his fondness of dogs ❤️ dogpeople are the best people especially when you are a guy and you are gorgeous. So overall I enjoyed this book tho i think it could have been better if the author added a little bit more feels and emotions and metaphors. But anyhow, it is fast-paced and entertaining. Finished it in a day and a half considering i was also reading this with another dystopian book. |
Thank you Entangled for the ARC of Boomerange Boyfriend. I am a big fan of Christ Cannon. I have read everything by her, so I might be biased, but I also pride myself on being completely honest in my reviews and I am being 100% honest when I say this is a 5-star book YA Contemporary Romance. It was adorable! When I first heard that Chris was writing about Delia (a character from her previous book) I had assumed it would be a story about her and Aiden (her love interested in the last book), but oh boy was I wrong. And very happy I was wrong too. I love the twist she threw in for us. And I totally fell in love with Delia and Jack as a couple. I can't wait for Chris's next book in the Boyfriend Chronicles. I'm dying to hear Aiden's story! |
I really thought I was going to enjoy this book. The synopsis sounded fun, I love the "girl falling for her best friend’s brother" trope. This sounded like one of the fluffy books I enjoy reading when I need to relax or get out of a reading slump, but it ended up not being very good. First, the writing is too wordy, and most of the story was telling not showing. It also felt very rushed. The story kept jumping from scene to scene, which confused me because there was nothing indicating the scene ended, it just abruptly moved from one to the next. Everything felt very surface level in this book. I don’t know if Delia and Jack are a cute couple, I don’t know very much about them. I couldn’t even enjoy any of the characters, they are all one dimensional. Delia is described as this artsy, nonconformist girl, but the only thing “different” about her is that she has pink in her hair, sometimes wears different colored lipstick, and sometimes talks about art. Her best friend Zoe is only there to talk about boys with her, and add to the drama because Delia likes her brother. The characters also felt very juvenile at times. They’re supposed to be juniors and seniors in high school, but they were acting like middle schoolers. I didn’t even like the main character. She was okay at first, but I immediately disliked her when she reacted to the news that the guy she was interested is gay. This guy, Aiden, tells her he's gay but can't come out because his parents will disown him, and she immediately feels bad for herself because she doesn't know who she's going to date instead...I'm not kidding, this actually happened. The thing that pissed me off the most was that there was a gay character who was literally only there to push the plot forward. The only purpose he served was to make Jack jealous, and cause him and Delia to fight. He's supposed to be her friend, but she's still bitter that he doesn't like her, and doesn't talk to him until it's convenient for the plot. Don’t even get me started on the guy that thought it was hot that his cousin is a lesbian. Ugh. This book is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I don’t know how the other books in the series are compared to this one, but I don’t think I’m interested in continuing. |
Boomerang Boyfriend (Boyfriend Chronicles) Chris Cannon Book Review: ♥ ♥ ♥ ❣ Delia is Jack's sisters best friend. She is always at Jacks house, and it feels like she is almost like family. He sees her as an annoying younger sister figure and has never thought of her as anything more. That is until she ends up getting a job at his work place, and they end up taking some art classes together. When his sister isn't by Delia side, he begins to notice her as more than an annoyance. Delia's mum and dad work a lot. She finds herself hanging out with her best friends most of the time. Zoe, her best friend has a boyfriend, and Delia is interested in his friend, Aiden. They kissed once, and now she can't work out why he's been acting strangely. The more she tries to figure Aiden out the more she seems to notice Jack. She must be having a boy break-down because Jack is a jerk. He's not boyfriend material. For the most part, I enjoyed reading this book. Both Jack and Delia are loveable. There were so funny parts in the book, and there was more to the story than just the two of them. However, there were certain parts of the story I found a little irritating. Delia and Jack seem to start finding each other physically attractive rather than mentally. I know they have known each other a long time, but I felt Delia was just looking for a boyfriend rather than the perfect one. The other love interest, Aiden was my least part of the story. Delia not dating him was a big part of this book, and I just didn't love it. I felt she could have been more supportive of his situation. I didn't like her obsessing over someone who was hot, and then cold. 3.5 stars out of 5. *ARC received in exchange for a fair review* Kindle Edition £3.76 Expected publication: September 11th 2017 by Entangled: Crush |
"Boomerang Boyfriend" was overall a cute YA romance, but it felt a little full of drama at every turn with everything a bit more stretched out than it needed to be. We follow Delia and Jack in alternating points-of-view. Delia is Jack's little sister Zoe's BFF and she practically lives at their house because her parents work long hours to be able to afford their house/middle class lifestyle. Since they have been hanging out all the time since she was little, she has known Jack forever- and he fits into the annoying older brother role for her as well as Zoe. Lately, Delia has been quasi-dating Zoe's boyfriend's BFF, Aidan, who has been giving her mixed signals and kind of put her in the friend-zone. Delia is a confident young woman with really fantastic conflict management skills and a lot of maturity that lead her to confront Aidan and figure out where they stand (which is just as friends, no more). So when she starts hanging out with Jack more, in art class, and at her new job where they are both employed, things start to evolve in that relationship as well. I'll admit that I didn't really see it coming and was surprised that their feelings started to change/it didn't really feel like it fit at first. Then it just seemed to be one thing after another- of misunderstandings, secrets, and drama-drama. I felt like it took them FOREVER to get together, and then it was just one thing after another. The best part of the book is Delia's bright and confident personality- she's not the shy wallflower waiting for the guy to make all the moves. However, all the drama made it feel a bit slow and I found Jack a little harder to like (maybe because I haven't read the previous books, but I am not sure). He was a bit abrasive at times and seemed so different from Delia (which can sometimes be a good thing). Overall, I liked it enough to read all of it and to wait for them to finally be together, but I wish the book was even shorter and had less of the drama. It's a very clean book, and it's relatively short, so people who like a lot of drama (jealousy, secret relationships) in their YA romance will probably enjoy it quite a bit! While it's not one of my favorites, the bright personality and strength of Delia still made it a really fun read for me overall. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own. |

This book was ok. I liked Jake and Delia but I thought it took way too long for them to actually interact in a boy-likes-girl fashion. Not sure if it was just me, but this book also seemed shorter than other Crush stories I have read and maybe that is what has me thinking that this book could have been a little longer with more than a couple moments of mutual-like interaction for Jake and Delia. I just thought, outside of Betty's, they don't get much time alone. One "date" and that is it. I just thought there could have been more. It's like the start of their relationship is the end of the novel. I also really like Trevor. He was a super secondary character! |
I really wanted to love this book. It sounded very cute and adorable. And honestly, who doesn't love a fluffy little contemporary? Plus, that cover just makes my heart all fuzzy. But there was just some things I couldn't look past and it kind of hindered my enjoyment of this book. I think for starters, my version of this book was formatted very poorly. I had a lot of column like pages and it made the book a little hard to read. This could be my Kindle as well. I have an older version of the Fire Kindle by Amazon. I also think that mine was uncorrected proof, which would make sense as there was a lot of little errors and sentence structure issues. This just needed a once over by an editor and I think it would be good to go. I liked the characters for the most part. There was a lot but I was able to keep track of them all due to their personalities. They were fleshed out pretty well, which sometimes doesn't happen with contemporaries. Delia was a good and solid character. I liked that she was confident about herself but she still had insecurities. Jack was alright. He was a little over the top with his issues about Delia keeping Aiden's secret. Aidan and Zoe were fleshed out pretty well. I wouldn't mind reading a book on Zoe. She was the most fun. Overall, I liked this book but I think the formatting issues and editing issues really hindered me from loving this book. I think it was also a bit too simplistic. But that might be a me not you type of situation. I am 24 years old and my reading tastes have changed as I have gotten older. However, despite the less than stellar review, I think this book would be good for younger teens that are interested in starting romance and contemporary novels. |

Received an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for a fair review from Entangled Publishing, LLC via NetGalley. Boomerang Boyfriend was a cute, sweet, fun read. I have read Chris Cannon’s books before and always enjoyed them. This one did not disappoint! I was needing something on the lighter side and this fit the bill perfectly! Delia and Jack have known each other a long time, since Delia is best friends with Jack’s sister, Zoe. They have always disliked each other for various reasons, but once they start working together they realize maybe they don’t hate each other quiet as much as they thought. I really enjoyed the relationship that grew between Delia and Jack. Jack has recently had a loss and this tends to cloud his judgement at times with Delia. I loved all the interactions with Jack’s family! His mom and especially his grandma were great! I also really enjoyed the friendship between Delia and Zoe. They had the type of friendship anyone would want. Overall, I would highly recommend this book! |
'Boomerang Boyfriend' is a novel about falling in love with a person you have known for a long time but only now you actually noticed her / him. Zoe and Dalia have been friends forever, Zoe has a brother who seems to be annoyed by his little sister's friend frequent visits. Everything changes when Jack (the brother) and Delia start working together and really get to know each other as teenagers. Will their relationship last? Will Zoe accept that her best friend is dating her big brother? The novel highly focuses on the relations between people (siblings, friends and parents), but it also slightly touches the topic of death and LGBT. I enjoyed reading the book even tough the main theme of falling in love with your best friend's brother is rather a cliche, and I would appreciate a bit more suspense and a bit more humour in exchanges between the characters. |
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. I like Chris Cannon books a lot. She always invents sweet romances that make you laugh and sigh with adorableness. This book is no exception. Delia practically lives at her best friend, Zoe's, house. Her home life is lacking but she feels welcomed into Zoe's. Although, Zoe's older brother, Jack seemed cold and closed off. She takes a job at a local burger joint to earn money to fund her art. She begins working alongside Jack and they both soon discover more to one another. I liked the characters alot. Delia was spunky and so was the way she feel in love with Jack. I wish the falling in love would have been a more slow-burn journey but it was still great. The book needs a little more editing but overall I enjoyed it. |
Delia and Jack never got along but when Delia becomes the new waitress at the place Jack works sparks fly. After these two share their feelings with each other they decided to keep their budding romance a secret. Why? Because Delia's best friend is Jack's sister and they're not sure how she'll react to their relationship. This Young Adult romance is so adorable!!! |
Free-spirited Delia has been the bane of Jack’s existence for more than a decade. As his little sister’s best friend, Delia and Jack have had their fair share of arguments and prank wars – to the point that Delia refers to Jack as “Jack the Jerk.” But when they start working together at Betty’s Burgers and spending more time together in their shared art class, Jack and Delia start seeing each other in a different light. So, you guys know me. I’ve got some favorite tropes. I like enemies-to-lovers. I love friends-to-lovers. I’m also a pretty big fan of brother’s best friend and best friend’s brother. Throw in some adorable dogs like this book has, and it’s pretty hard for me not to like it. The story here kept me entertained. There was enough tension to keep me on my toes, but not so much that I got frustrated. The conflicts were believable and I liked the characters. The problem I had was that the writing just felt awkward. And that’s the problem with reviewing ARCs. Did I get the book before the editor did? I might never know, but I’ll give Entangled and the author the benefit of the doubt. I also felt like I was missing some key information on these characters, and going to the author’s website told me what Goodreads and Netgalley hadn’t – that this book is third in a series. I wouldn’t say that reading the first two is required, but I felt like I was expected to know some background information about the characters in order to really connect with what was going on. Still, the book was good. I enjoyed the plot, I liked the characters, and while I might have hoped for some more interaction between Delia and Jack, I did appreciate that neither of them lost themselves or their friends in their attraction. Also, this is a young adult romance and it’s very clean, if that’s a thing you’re worried about. Final rating: ★★★☆☆ |
Three and a half stars. I have to admit, I misread the blurb on NetGalley when I requested this book and thought, for some reason, that Delia was best friends with Jack's brother not his sister! Anyhoo, Delia has been best friends with Zoe for ever and spends probably more time at Zoe and Jack's house than her own. Delia's parents work anti-social shifts and appear to be a bit switched-off, they don't remember to buy food and sometimes it seems as though Delia is the adult taking care of her feckless parents. Having said that, money is clearly tight and her parents love her, they just aren't often THERE. Zoe and Jack have been touched by tragedy when their father and grandfather were killed in a car crash, at first their mother also seemed to have checked out but she seems to be doing better. They all three live with Zoe and Jack's grandmother. Zoe is dating Grant and Delia had high hopes of dating Grant's best friend Aidan, but he has firmly friend-zoned her after she spontaneously kissed him. Delia is starting work at Betty's Burgers as the new dessert princess - basically she serves slices of cake and sings happy birthday if someone has a birthday (when they get a free slice of cake). Jack already works at Betty's which is a problem because Jack is a complete jerk. But it seems as though the fates are conspiring against Delia because not only does she have to see Jack every time she spends time at Zoe's house AND work with him but as his class' art teacher has left suddenly he is also taking art classes at school with her. But as they are forced into even close proximity Jack and Delia discover they may have more in common than they thought and the person who irritates them the most may also see them the best. I have tagged this as "angst-angst-angst" because of Delia's parents and Jack and Zoe's situation and Jack's best friend whose brother died of an overdose, heck even Aidan has problems at home. But at the same time I have tagged it as low-angst because these things are just background and the actual plot is relatively angst-free. I liked this, but I didn't love it. I see from Goodreads that this is the third in the Boyfriend Chronicles series and although it can definitely be read as a stand-alone there is definitely the feel that maybe I missed something - perhaps the start of Delia's crush on Aidan? Overall, a sweet YA romance about your best friend's older brother, it's got dogs and pie and art jokes and it's about normal kids with normal names, albeit that some of them have had to deal with some difficult circumstances. |
