Good book, though I didn’t find it as compelling as her first book. Lauren Denton is a gifted writer, and she kept me guessing as to how everything would turn out for the two sisters at the center of the story.

In Ms. Denton’s latest release, Hurricane Season, she tells the story of two sisters. In this book she examines their past and how they got to where they are now and how they currently are. This book reveals the relationships of the people connected to the sisters and the impacts they have made on their choices and lives. This was the first time that I have read a book by Ms. Denton, but it will not be my last. This book is refreshing and uplifting. The story of healing and how to get through difficult times is a great example of how we all should live in this imperfect world. I highly recommend you read this book!
***I was given a free electronic copy of this book from the publisher. This is my honest opinion. Even though I received this copy free, this is my own opinion.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC for my Kindle.
Another good book by Lauren K. Denton! I enjoyed "The Hideaway" but I like this one just a little bit more.
"Hurricane Season" has a couple of meanings; one is obvious but the other one, you'll have to read the book to find it out. Hope there may be a sequel to this book.
If you enjoy reading clean fiction about families, marriages, children, hard work, goals, dreams, and just about anything life can throw at you, you'll like this book.
And I'll have to add that Lauren K. Denton sent a request to readers to pick a name for the cafe, and she chose the name I submitted, Full Cup!

This book is so beautiful. This is my first experience with work by Lauren K. Denton and it most definitely won't be my last.

"Hurricane Season" is a poignant, emotional read full of tenderhearted moments and the raw emotions of living this hard life. I can say without reservation that this is my new favorite Christian fiction; although the story is so much more (so-to-speak) than that. The characters were lovable, relatable and real. The circumstances they encountered, the experiences they were healing from...it all worked together to draw the reader into the characters' lives and make them memorable. The way the author described the scenery and created a setting was absolutely superb. I was able to step into the story with the characters, see what they saw, hear what they heard. From beginning to end it was a magnificent read.

I loved Lauren Denton's previous book The Hideaway. I found Hurricane Season to be a little slow at first and it took me a while to get into the story and to connect with the characters.
This book is about two very different sisters and the different paths their lives have taken them. One sister, Betsy, lives on a dairy farm with her husband. The other sister, Jenna, is a single mother to two small daughters and longs to be a photographer.
I loved the small town and close knit community that Betsy lives in. I found her story more interesting than the story of Jenna.
All in all this was a wonderful story of family and coming together.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book to review.

What a lovely story of two sisters who are so different. I loved Ty and how much he loved Betsy. I appreciated what a hard worker he is. Jenna was so “flighty” yet the author managed to make me feel some sympathy for her and her predicament. A beautiful family story.

HURRICANE SEASON is a well-written and heartwarming story of two women finding their way. I enjoyed both sisters' perspectives, although Betsy is a bit more sympathetic than Jenna. I loved the character of Ty as well - Betsy's husband is hard-working with a heart of gold. Readers who enjoy leisurely-paced, heartwarming stories will gravitate toward Denton's latest offering. I like how she explores the innermost thoughts and feelings of her characters in a way that really lets us get to know them. We suffer - and grow - right along with them. By the novel's end there are no huge dramatic revelations, but there's growth and development nonetheless, the small, tender movements of the human heart. This is a meaningful story that will stick with me.

This was a quiet story, a bit slow-moving, but well-written and not too slow that I didn't want to finish it; I got invested in the characters and wanted to know how things turned out for them. This book is published by a Christian publisher but other than a brief mention of going to church on Sunday, there is no overt Christian content.

I just recently finished reading Hurricane Season by Lauren K. Denton that I received as a wish from Netgalley. I would consider this books genre to be woman’s fiction. I found it to be a very enjoyable read about 2 sisters and how their lives are very different. One thing I liked was that the one sister married and lived on a dairy farm. That’s something you don’t find too much of in any reading that I’ve done. I appreciated it and could relate because I’m from the country and once too lived on a farm. I also think anyone who has sisters, such as myself, would enjoy this book because it shows how sometimes you don’t always completely understand why a sister chooses to do what she does, but you love them anyways. This story also centered around infertility which was something my daughter had issues with, so I could relate. Overall, I thought it was a very good story and would definitely recommend it. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for granting my wish and letting me read this book!

I so loved this book ... could not put it down. The writing was well done and the characters were full of personality. I loved the ending! Very heart warming.

I didn't love this book. I felt a book titled Hurricane Season would have more dramatic moments that are typically associated with these types of storms. However, there was never that pinnacle moment of drama or change. In fact, all of the characters seemed to be in the same place on the last page of the novel that they were in the beginning of the book. Yes, Betsy and Jenna had taken steps to repair their relationship, Jenna developed a greater understanding of her life goals, and Betsy dealt with her inability to have kids. I guess I just wanted more..

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

I really wanted to like this book. I tried to like this book. I just couldn't feel a connection to any of the characters so I was forced to give up.

Does it count that I really liked the cows?

Thanks for the Netgalley and the publisher, I got an arc to discover this author and her work. When I started reading a good women's fiction novel I couldn't put it down, same thing happened here too. And specially I love stories about sisters, I'm glad that I came across this one.

Betsy and Jenna are two different souls. In years they lost their bound but when Jenna decided to chase rainbows and become the photographer she once dreamed, her two little girls have to stay with their aunt in their farm. Betsy is a happily married woman but after years of trying to have babies, she is a heart-broken woman too. To see what important for her, all she has to do is spend time with these two little angels. While Betsy was healing, Jenna finds herself and her priorities. Before Hurricane Ingrid hit, she makes a decision about her life.

I love how two sisters united at the end. Sweet stories like this is one of my favorites. Maybe it could end differently, but it's still a good one.

Riveting story about family, love and how far we'll go. Strong characters and an engaging plot make this one a must read.

I really enjoyed this story. Since I have spent a lot of time on the Alabama Gulf Coast, I appreciated her sense of place. The plot moves right along and the characters are so believable. I also can identify with hurricane worries.

Storms can bring great destruction, but they can also bring a time for discovering what lasts, what holds together even through the harshest weather, and what comes out better for the rain. The Hurricane Season is a book truly evocative of Southern summer and which captures the complications of family relationships, the desire to see dreams fulfilled, and the trials that test marriages and break hearts.

When Betsy receives a voice message from her sister, Jenna, asking if she can leave her two young girls with her while she attends a photography camp, Betsy knows it will test everything inside her. It will bring back the harsh memories of negative test results and the guest room that never became a nursery. It will strain further her relationship with her husband, something that was only now slowly returning to normal. But Betsy never says no to her sister and so two sweet, young girls descend on Betsy and Ty's farm and home. For Jenna it is a time to finally follow her dreams of photography. For Betsy and Ty it is a time of facing the past's hurt and faded dreams, while reconnecting as a couple. But as a hurricane looms, will this family survive everything the summer has in store for them?

Once again, Lauren K. Denton entwines a story of healing and discovery with a perfectly captured setting. The scenery is almost an extra character. The summery days, the firefly-filled nights, the howling wind, and lashing rain all perfectly reflect the mood and themes of the story.

There are a number of stories which feature in The Hurricane Season - Betsy and Ty's story as a couple, their individual stories of healing and acceptance, and of course Jenna's story as she searches for her purpose and what this means when trying to mother two young children. Each story plays its part in this book and provides a layered and detailed plot, strong characters who are easy to love, and, of course, that gorgeous setting. I loved very minute spent on Ty and Betsy's dairy farm, loved the little descriptions of the regular work and the animals. The chapters from Jenna's perspective also take the reader on her journey of recovering her skills as a photographer and exploring the wilds of the untamed South. The chapters alternate between the perspectives of these three main characters.

I think I fell a little in love with Ty. He has an incredible work ethic. He is slow to speak, yet everything he says is considered and thoughtful. I loved his love, care, and protectiveness of Betsy. I loved that he loved her complications and saw it as his job as husband to be there for her and to figure out what she needed, even if she couldn't speak the words. Their relationship journey was wonderful to witness. They have faced something that has tested their bond, but together, with a few hiccups along the way, they put each other first

This book, while published by at traditionally Christian inspirational publisher, fits somewhere between a Christian novel and general fiction. I believe readers of both categories will enjoy this delightful story. Betsy and Ty are Christians, attend church a few times in the novel and mention prayer, but faith does not dominate the storyline in any way. Instead, the growth of the characters and their journey of reconciliation, acceptance. and direction for the future is the focus of this book. The ending, I thought, was truly wonderful. I loved that it is hopeful, but doesn't brush over the fact that sometimes dreams change or might look a little different than first expected.

Hurricane Season is a beautiful novel of relationships, family, futures, farming, hope, love, and fireflies.
