Thank you for the opportunities to read this book. I have attempted it on a number of occasions but unfortunately I haven’t been able to get into it.

This is a great exploration of questions such as whether or not cell phones are destroying our brain to how exactly the brain and mind work to make each of us so perfectly and individually ourselves.

This is great! It's both visually pleasing and a treat to read. The author can packages up some complex topics and the science of the brain and delivers a rundown that's both engaging and actually easy to understand as someone with no background in psychology or neuroscience whatsoever. I really enjoyed this book, and appreciated the images/graphics as well as the little activities the author wove in.
A digestible and somewhat humorous take on a complicated topic - this could have been a drab textbook, but the author really brought it to life!

I love the illustrations in this book. It’s pretty much all that you would want to know about the workings of the brain and quite a different book which why I’m giving it 5/5. I was provided with a copy by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review and I couldn’t fault it especially with an interest in Psychology.
I think that it would particularly appeal to A Level students because of the amount of colour in the book, which helps to keep the viewer interested.

Fantastic book! It’s All In Your Head is enlightening, educational and fun! Despite the rather serious material, it is written quite conversationally, engaging the reader almost immediately. I have had an interest in neuroscience for some time now, but this book is definitely not just for nerds like myself. Discussions include meeting your transmitters, discovering the parts of your brain, understanding neuroplasticity and the brain’s hemispheres, how thoughts work, brain scans explained….the list goes on. As you can tell it is a comprehensive, informative book that is expertly written. It does not suffer from being dry or overwhelming, as some books in this genre are can be. It is just a fascinating read!

I loved this book. A lot.

Despite all my anatomy experience, I always hated/avoided neuro. The brain has always freaked me out, and I shouldn't admit this, but as someone who has taught anatomy and physiology to high school students and TA'd it at the college level, to this day I can't name all the parts of the brain or tell you where they are. I purposefully have blocked that out from my brain (lol) because it's just too much to comprehend. Same thing with embryology. (It's amazing we even exist, considering all the things that can go wrong during fetal development. But, that's another story for another day).

Things I loved about it:
- This book is pretty. Like, it's super aesthetically pleasing.
- It's formatted like a textbook with sidebars and infographics and photographs and blocks of text, but it doesn't feel like a textbook.
- The author's writing style is A+++. It's conversational, but still technical enough that it isn't dumbed down. He throws in pop culture references throughout and a little humor, and overall it's just so very well done.
- Literally touches on almost every topic in neuroanatomy/neurophysiology. He's found a nice balance between breadth and depth.
- THERE'S A BIBLIOGRAPHY! Granted, it's several pages long and the font is super tiny to fit everything in, but I love that. Why? Because this book is well-researched. It uses actual science and evidence. (Unlike two books I read recently that angered me so much because they talked about studies and never cited a damn thing to support their claims).

If you're curious about the human brain, or about anything it does, check out this book. It's literally mindblowing (see what I did there?) It's an easy read and well worth your time.

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC.

Unfortunately I'm having problems downloading this one onto my kindle to read.
I'm really disappointed as it looks like a title I'd really have enjoyed. I'll just have to wait until it's published I suppose 😞

Thank you for the approval, I very much appreciate the support you give to booksellers (like me) allowing us to read and review titles in advance of the publication dates. I'd certainly not be able to have the knowledge of so many titles for recommending to our customers. And of course, I just love the opportunity of being able to read so much for my own enjoyment and enthuse about them to anyone who'll listen.

After reading Brain On Fire I was desperate for more 'brainy' books which led me to this book. And it was not at all what I was expecting. Everyone assumes that non-fiction are boring, rambling text books... not this one!
I found myself laughing out loud and reading snippets out to random people in my life. What could be deemed as boring or complicated are presented in a fun and easy to follow way.
Granted this copy being on an ereader is rather bad quality but I will without doubt be picking up a formatted finished copy.

I accepted this book from Netgalley for an honest review. This was the sort of book I could pick up an enjoy during breaks and shorter allowed moments. It is chock full of information.
If you have a brain nerd or someone who enjoys anatomy and physiology, this book would make a great gift.
It is not deep science.

I'm on this how does the brain work kick in my reading at the moment and I highly enjoyed this quick read. Very informative with useful skills that any one can utilize.

An entertaining account about the brain, full of fun facts and interesting information which really got my mind working. I'd pass on some of the fun knowledge to friends and family saying 'Did you know.......?' My only gripe was the illustrations and parts of the book were so faded that it made it hard to see. Thank you to Netgalley qnd the publishers for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.

Did you know that 7,000 brains are stored in Harvard's brain bank (honestly, I never even knew Harvard HAD a brain bank) or that the average person blinks 5.2 million times in a year?

Blanchard not only has fun and interesting mind benders in It's All in Your Head but also includes facts and tidbits about the inner working of your brain. From Sensory perceptions to orgasms, Blanchard has covered a wide variety of things you never even knew you wanted to know.

Its All In Your Head was a book outside my normal genres of reading. The subject matter is fascinating but an educational read?? Again, not my usual go to entertainment. However, this book IS A MUST READ. It was fascinating and fun, not a tedious text book.~ It was pages of a-ha moments. and snorts of sarcastic laughter as I recognized things said as describing myself or others I know. I actually really truly liked this book and wish I could just put it in front of people and say, "Trust me! Read it!"

I read Keith Blanchard's It's All in Your Head straight through. This is a fascinating, well-researched book that's just plain fun to read. Blanchard is able to present complex ideas in a lively way and draw the reader through his pages almost non-stop. Highly recommended. (I must say, however, that the complimentary e-copy i received from Netgalley--which has not influenced my opinion in any way--was poorly produced and extremely difficult to read, with sentences that seemed to end in mid-thought, captions that ran into text, and illustrations divided over two pages. I'll look forward to buying a printed, well-proofed copy.)

I picked up this book because I thought it would be an interesting read, and as I've been having some troubles lately, I thought it could help me with those. While the subject matter is interesting, it's also really hard to unscramble at some points. The graphics in the ebook are also done very badly, so they would sometimes cut off and end up on random pages instead of aligned properly, which was utterly confusing.

What I did end up getting out of this book, I liked. I think it would take more than one read-through to truly understand the content of this book.

An informative and revealing book updating lots of misconceptions and providing a great balance of science and example/anecdote. A must read!

It's All in your Head has good coverage of a lot of psychology-related topics. In particular, I thought that the the early sections were great--nice graphics, information regarding the brain and neurotransmitters was at a good level for someone who is interested in learning about the brain and doesn't have a psychology background. I'd even thought that this would be a book that I would recommend to my students or that it would rival some of the textbooks that I have used. However, the later sections don't measure up. These sections move too quickly through their coverage of serious topics (e.g., electroconvulsive shock therapy). Overall, a good book to flip through and pick up some information. If you are looking for an in-depth treatment, then this may not be the best place to start.

Provides a fun, f basic overview on the human mind. A fun and informative read

It's All In Your Head can be an engaging and humorous read, replete with fun facts, graphics and photos. However, it is in the substance that this book is found wanting.

Keith Blanchard tackles some serious issues such as Lyme disease, strokes, PTSD,  concussions, depression, autism and addiction in a perfunctory manner, often no more than cursory one page treatments.

There are also superfluous subjects like the interpretation of dreams, psychoanalysis of fictional villains (Joffrey Baratheon, The Joker, Norman Bates and even Cruela de Vil) and did A Clockwork Orange get aversion therapy right? These sort of topics simply add no intrinsic value to the subject matter at hand.

It's All In Your Head is pitched at a high school level - is there such a thing as YA nonfiction? You will not find new material that hasn't been covered more extensively elsewhere, albeit packaged here in a rather fun, accessible way.

This book is like eating a slice of cake - sweet and easy on the palate, but it isn't going to fill you up.
