It's probably my bad that I keep on jumping in mid series why I have a hard time getting into it. I do like cowboy and ranch settings and the author's other stuff so I gave it a shot. This may not be completely standalone I realize early in, perhaps interconnected. I'm kind of lost at the start, a bit confused on Caroline and her whole issue from before. I'm not sure if these characters were established beforehand if anything but I felt lost. Then the sudden insta lust one night stand, screamed stranger danger to me but I guess worked for them. Mystery guy turns out to be an old friend's brother. That she knows but doesn't seem to recognize at the time. When they meet again some spark of sorts makes it known to them both. It's something like lots of chemistry that makes Clayton realize he wants more. For them to take a chance on that if a relationship is worth exploring. Both have been burned before in different ways and for some reason they gravitate towards the other. It took a while to get what's going on and became easier when I did it flowed ok. I just found the it hard to feel the connection between Caroline and Clayton the steam very much there but the other stuff |
This is why I love Harper Sloan! This book was everything I'd hoped for and more. After reading Maverick and Quinn's stories, I was eager for more of Clayton. You know from the other books that he is the most amazing big brother; caring, protective, driven, and wise. It was also easy to see that, while he supported his siblings and their relationships, he wasn't really someone who wanted that for himself. I couldn't wait to see who would come along and challenge his plan. Caroline certainly knocked Clay on his rear. She was such a fantastic character. I've really loved all of the people in this series and Sloan keeps delivering with strong, multidimensional, evolving characters. From almost the beginning we are set up for a bit of mystery. I felt this aspect, along with the tension and suspense it created, gave this book a different feel from the others in the series. I was enthralled and eager to see how things would play out and how far she would go with it. In addition to the amazing characters and excitement surrounding the suspense, Sloan gives us a story packed full of emotion, laughs, and love. A story of healing and finding a life you never dreamed of. I loved every bit of it. ~Erin |
Reviews by the Wicked Reads Review Team Shannan – ☆☆☆☆☆ Cowboy Up is the third installment in the Coming Home series. I personally feel it has to be read in order to understand and appreciate each Davis story. Cowboy Up is Clayton Davis’ story. He's the oldest Davis child and the most anti-relationship in the group. It's been a long time since he's thought about his own loneliness, but a one-night stand with an unknown woman has him questioning everything. He never planned on searching out the woman who gave him an amazing night of pleasure but if fate throws them together, he knows he can't walk away again. Caroline hasn't been with anyone since she's gotten out of her abusive relationship. One night with a sexy cowboy has her feeling sexier than she thought possible and questioning her solitary life. Can the sexy cowboy bring out the bad in her? This really was the perfect ending to this series. I loved seeing the sweet, sexy side of Clay, and him finding his happily ever after. I enjoyed seeing the progression of the relationships of Maverick and Leighton and Tate and Quinn. Ms. Harper's knack for writing the sexy alpha has expanded to the sexy cowboy. Cowboy Up is syrupy sweet and brought rounds of tears to my eyes. So worth the read! Veronica – ☆☆☆☆ Cowboy Up is the third instalment in the Coming Home series and gives us the story of Clayton, the oldest of the Davis siblings. Clayton is serious, focused only on work and his ranch. He has no desire for love and a family like his siblings, Quinn and Maverick. When Caroline enters his life, he starts to want things he never imaged he would. Shy Caroline starts to come out of her shell with the support of a strong man like Clay. Caroline and Clay are a very sexy couple with great chemistry. But there is more to this story than their romance and relationship. Caroline and Clay each have a crazy ex, someone sets fire to Caroline's book shop and Caroline's nutcase of a mother all add trouble to their lives. On the plus side, the life they are building together is beautiful, and Quinn and Leighton (heroines from the previous books) are both pregnant and about to make Clay an uncle for the first time. There was plenty going on in and around our couple’s lives, which kept me engaged with the story. The romance between good people who deserve something good together is heartwarming. The epilogue is lovely and an excellent end to the story of the Davis siblings. |
Audiobook Review: 5+++ Stars If you could sum up Cowboy Up in three words, what would they be? Sexiest cowboy ever!! What did you love best about this story? I loved everything about Cowboy Up. I loved how Clayton and Caroline’s relationship developed. It felt so real and solid. I loved Caroline’s relationship with her best friends, they were very protective of her. I loved Clayton’s unconditional love for his brother and sister. I loved the drama in the story. And most of all, I loved the ending. It was perfect. Who was your favorite character and why? Clayton for sure. Reading him from his siblings’ POV showed a great brother but also a serious and private person. Reading him from his own POV was simply the best. He’s my favorite of the Davises. I’ve always thought that when you meet the right person, your life changes forever and that’s what happened to Clayton. Well, he was awesome before meeting Caroline, but Clayton in love is the perfect kind of book boyfriend for me. He was caring, romantic, strong, and sexy as hell. Can I have a Clayton for me, please? What about Elizabeth Louise & Jason Carpenter’s performance did you like? Jason Carpenter has the sexiest voice in the world. Period! And his performance as Clayton and the whole audiobook in general was pure perfection. I loved his accent, his inflections and most of all how sexy and he made sound my beloved Clayton. Elizabeth Louise’s narration was great too. She transmitted Caroline’s personality flawlessly. I could feel the character’s strength, passion and love in Elizabeth’s performance. Any additional comments? Cowboy Up was the perfect ending for the Coming Home Series. Harper Sloan saved the best Davis sibling for the end. The last chapter of the book was the kind of chapters I always want in books. It was seriously amazing. 100% recommended. |
This was my favorite book of the series by far and the only reason it isn't getting five stars is because of the unrealistic dialogue. It was just too sickly sweet for me, but other than that this is a really solid romance. It's super sexy for one thing and the added element of suspense made this a well-rounded, entertaining read. I do love the bond that the Davis siblings have and thought it was really cohesive throughout the series. The epilogue was great and finished out the series nicely. ARC provided by NetGalley. |
Cowboy Up is the third book in the incredible Coming Home series by bestselling author Harper Sloan. I absolutely loved this book with the complex characters you can't help but love, steamy sexual encounters, humor, drama, intense situations, and intriguing twists. This emotional roller-coaster of a story will steal your heart right from the beginning, and not let go until long after the end. It was a terrific story, and a great addition to this incredible series. Clayton Davis has always put his siblings, the ranch, and Davis Automotive before his own needs, always taking care of, and protecting those most important to him. Since both of his siblings have fallen in love, he's felt the loneliness of his life more than he wants to admit, until a one night stand changes everything. Caroline Michaels is finally living a life that she wants, owning her own bookstore, after having escaped and survived an abusive relationship with her ex. After living that nightmare for years, the last thing she wants is to date or another relationship, but she admits at least to herself that she is lonely. Going to her best friends bar for a drink and distraction after a call from her ex shook her up, the last thing she expects is the strong attraction to the stranger next to her, or her bf's approval of him. Deciding to be bad for the night, she has a one night stand with the sexy, mystery cowboy. Neither of them anticipate ever seeing the other again, even though they've both thought about the other constantly over the last few weeks, but when they see each other at his family's event, all those feelings come rushing back. Tired of lying to himself, Clayton decides to pursue Caroline, and prove to her that what they have is real. Will Caroline be able to overcome her past, and give them the chance to see where it will lead? Will they get the HEA that they both desperately want and deserve? I absolutely loved the way that Caroline emerged from her shell, becoming the woman she was meant to be, and all with her sexy cowboy standing by her side, giving her everything she needed to do it. Clayton is that perfect man that everyone dreams of: sexy, intelligent, sweet, giving, has a huge heart, loyal, and is a perfect gentleman. These two made the perfect couple, and I was thrilled that they got their HEA. (Not really a spoiler. This is a romance after all!) I would love to see more from this series, especially since I love the characters, quirky and all. Harper Sloan has definitely made my one click list, and I can't wait to read more of her wonderful stories! I strongly recommend this book, series, and exceptional author. I have voluntarily reviewed this arc provided by the publisher via NetGalley. |
Fantastic book. What a great ending to this trilogy. This story focuses on Clay, the oldest sibling, and this is the one I have been waiting for the most. It was super sweet, hot to trot, and had suspense. It doesn't get better than that. The writing was amazing, I love revisiting old characters from other books in the trilogy. Highly recommend this book. Told in dual POV. |
Harper Sloan has been a long time favorite author of mine. While I really enjoyed the first two books, Lost Rider and Kiss My Boots, they felt "tamer" than her past books. But Cowboy Up is now up there with my other favorites of hers from the past. Clay is definitely the strong, alpha male of this family. With his younger siblings happily married, now he can focus on his own love life. Only he doesn't believe that's in store for himself. Caroline is the perfect match for him. These two are about as opposite as can be, and how does that saying go? Opposites attract. Cowboy Up is without a doubt my favorite out of the Coming Home Series. |
This Texas girl loves a good cowboy story… and when said cowboy story includes a HOT as HELL one like Clayton Davis, I am for sure all in! Cowboy Up is the latest installment in the Coming Home series by author Harper Sloan, and it felt like just that… coming home. At this point, I am fully invested in this series, in these characters, and in this small town world of ranches, horses, sexy cowboys, and the women who fall for them. With that said though, Cowboy Up can be read and enjoyed as a complete standalone just like its predecessors. A sexy encounter that leads to more is always a winner, however, this sexy encounter is like no other… the mystery that surrounds their initial encounter is electric! Clayton and Caroline steam up the pages from the get go and it is a wild way to start but honestly, I’m not sure how else it would have worked. The chemistry between these two is crazy good. What starts off hot and heavy turns into a slow churning build towards an inevitable relationship. And once Caroline says she is in, Clayton is more than ready to make her his… the alpha, protective, and yes, possessive, man shines through I enjoyed the push and pull of Clayton and Caroline’s story… the heavy moments, the sweet moments, and for sure the steamy moments. It is a story that you can’t help but fall for, even the Texas twang that rings throughout, grows on you by the end. A great installment to a great series! |
The perfect way to end the perfect cowboy romance series. If there was ever a time to use a one-liner to sum a series conclusion, this would be the time. Sloan has not only cemented her place in the romance reading world with this series, she breaks the genre mold with it. The Coming Home series has it angst-filled moments, but the romance is truly the front and center portion of the story. So many books these days focus on the drama, and Sloan just took the reins, and gave us a heartfelt story. Davis might be a damaged man from previous relationship, but when Caroline barrels into his life, he takes the reins and leads us all on a ride through the sweetest romance story possible of the year. I could go on and gush about just how perfect this story is, but I want other readers to really experience their love story. It’s one for the ages, and will be long remembered for years to come. Cowboy Up, and grab it today! |
As a bookworm who has swooned over my fair share of fictional heroes, I must admit that Clayton Davis is pretty darn swoon-worthy. For fellow bookworm, Caroline Michaels, the tall, dark, and dreamy cowboy is like a hero in one of her romance novels come to life. The cowboy and the bookworm sounds like the makings of a captivating love story, doesn’t it? Well, get ready to swoon because Cowboy Up, the third book in Harper Sloan’s Coming Home Series, is indeed a love story that’ll captivate you and make you wish for your very own handsome cowboy. After watching his two younger siblings find love, it’s finally time for Clayton Davis to hop on the saddle. The responsible, strong, silent eldest Davis sibling isn’t exactly looking for love yet, when Caroline Michaels strolls into the bar, determined to have some fun and escape reality, a few drinks leads to a smoking hot, unforgettable one-night-stand that ensures the memory of one another is branded in each of their minds. The normally-timid bookstore owner gains confidence under Clay’s self-assured, determined pursuit as she rebuilds her life and rediscovers herself. With an Alpha hero that is as sexy and drool-worthy as he is bossy and overprotective, a heroine that’s fierce and lively, and a romance that’s fun, flirty, and oh-so-steamy, Cowboy Up is a delightful conclusion to the Coming Home Series. If you’re in the mood for a hopelessly romantic, unabashedly sensual love story that’s light on the angst and heavy on the romance, Cowboy Up is guaranteed to have you smiling and swooning from start to finish and will leave you feeling blissfully and perfectly satisfied. *complimentary copy provided by publisher for an honest review |

This book was a lovely read with likeable characters. The heroine, Caroline Michaels, has been going through a lot of hardship, she had an abusive boyfriend and her fears have kept her from moving on. Her childhood was dysfunctional and as a result, she finds it hard to trust anyone. She is back to her hometown but she is still under a lot of stress, her life feels out of control. Clay Davis is lonely and convinced he is better off alone. He is allergic to relationships and very private. And yet he is kind, caring, trustworthy and a gentleman above all else. The Davis siblings are wealthy, but they grew up without love. Clay was Caroline’s first crush and her best friend’s older brother. Clay got burned by the wrong woman, he is no longer the carefree boy he once seemed to be. The author wrote Caroline and Clay’s relationship as a friendship underpinned by their intense attraction to each other. The progression of their relationship was satisfying to read and well-thought-out. Some of my favorite scenes were the ones they spend with Clay’s family. These scenes give a lot of insight into how they fit in each other’s life. Caroline brings out Clay’s protective side, he makes her feel safe and grounded. There is a sweetness about her, bringing joy to his life. Being around her makes him need everything he thought he never would, including a family. Cowboy Up is full of intriguing and sweet events, intense suspense, colorful and heartwarming characters. Caroline not only gets the swoon-worthy cowboy, she gets an extended family. This author has a way with characters, writing engaging heroes and heroines you are happy to see fall in love. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It is definitely a story to get lost in and forget about everything else for a while! |
This story was EVERYTHING!!! I loved how kick butt Caroline was. She never played the victim, and the strength she had throughout the book was amazing. Clay was PERFECT for her. While he was protective, he wasn’t overbearing, and he showed her how she should be loved. There were quite a few secondary characters I would have loved to throat punch a time or three, and the suspense elements of this book were amazing!! This book was the perfect ending to this series, and that epilogue?? ❤️❤️❤️ This is definitely a must read!!! |
Save a horse. Ride a … Cowboy Up is the third book in the Coming Home Series by Harper Sloan. It features Clayton of the Davis Clan and his relationship with Caroline. They turned a one night into a real romance after dealing with their pasts. I liked the song titles for each chapter. It was a great detail which made me want to pull up each song on Spotify. I truly enjoyed the romance between Clayton and Caroline as well as their relationship with their friends and family. The author really gave a taste of the small town feel. I plan to venture back to Pine Oak , Texas and read the other books in this series. Thank you Netgalley and Pocketbooks for ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. |
Cowboy Up is the best in the series, loved Clay hard he has been my favorite from the start and his story was soooooo GOOD! This story is sweet, funny and super sexy with romance to the highest level. I do recommend reading this series but they can be read as stand alone. |
This is a book that has a pretty high rating on Goodreads (4.4 stars), so I know there is a readership for this book and people who will love it. I’m just not part of that group. I read the first two in the series and I wanted to finish the series out. I was hopeful as the heroine in this one is a bookshop owner. I love reading books where books themselves play a role in them; but this one just missed a lot of the marks for me. The hero, Clayton, has made it clear in his life that he doesn’t ever want to get married nor have children. This is partly to do with the fact that he did not have a great relationship with either of his parents. I can understand how he is hesitant, even put off by the idea of getting married and having kids since his parents did not represent a good marriage nor were they supportive parents. What I don’t understand, and what is extremely difficult to believe, is that just one night with the heroine, Caroline, and Clayton is all about having and building a permanent future with her (full of marriage and babies). I don’t think that is realistic - especially for someone who has said all his life he didn’t want that. Romance novels are notorious for being touted as giving women unrealistic expectations, and while I think that is unfair on some accounts, honestly, this book falls into that category. I think it gives women the idea that they can someone change a man, but I don’t think anyone can change someone else. People can only change themselves, not others. Caroline was all over the place. She’s described by others as shy and quiet but I didn’t ever really see that side. She had one encounter with Clayton and now she’s all confidence and speaking her mind. While I think the fact she gained confidence is realistic, it happened awfully quick in my opinion. Something I noticed while reading this series, is that all the men are extremely similar with their actions and words in the bedroom. I felt like there wasn’t much originality in these scenes. In all honesty, they were just too much for my preference. Too much description, too long, too much everything. The whole “being bad” thing (which was coined during the first chapter when Caroline decides to “be bad” with Clayton, aka have a one night stand with him) was quite frankly stupid to me and it got old really fast. The drama that occurred was predictable. Jealous exes who are also crazy. Not much else to say about that. I was trying to describe this book to a friend, and I said that if someone who doesn’t read romance novels wrote down everything they believed them to be, this book would be the result. It was tropey, unrealistic, had over the top drama, bad dialogue, long waxing poetic monologues, excessive descriptions of bedroom scenes, and a very cliche HEA. That’s probably really harsh, but I said I’d give my honest opinion and that is my honest opinion. |
Cowboy Up is book three in the Coming Home series and revolves around the oldest Davis sibling, Clayton. Each book in the series can be read as a standalone, but I will say that all of them are worth the read. Clayton takes on a lot of responsibilities. He likes being in control. Whether it’s the family business, his siblings, or relationships, he’s in control. Caroline makes him want to lose all his control and change is stance on relationships. Caroline was strong. She escaped from her ex, who was abusive and is now living for herself. When her and Clay have a one-night stand, it’s unforgettable. When she runs into hard times, it’s up to Clayton to show the way. Don’t worry, though, she has somethings to teach Clayton, as well. Both characters have obstacles they need to overcome and this author did a good job at showing readers that. I liked that each character was well-developed and had interesting back stories. It would be boring if both of them were perfect and never fell on hard times. Thankfully, this story is anything but dull. |
I’m so happy after reading this one. Cowboy Up redeemed this series for me after almost DNFing the last one. Clayton is the strong silent type and he’s the one I loved the most. He’s been a strong support for his siblings over the years. He’s an alpha with a bit of a darker side, but the way he takes care of Caroline is everything. This book was a bit different from the other two because it had a bit of a mystery thrown in that really amped up the action. I think this added so much to the story that I hadn’t expected. Then there was that epilogue…I LOVED it! Epilogues are very popular in this genre but it isn’t often that we get an epilogue from 15 years later. It made the Davis family story feel completely wrapped up in a way that was comforting. |

4.5 Stars Honestly for me each book in this series just gets better, and I was incredibly eager to read teh ever stoic, yet loving eldest Davis' siblings story. Clay is serious, brooding, intense, strong, possessive alpha who takes his responsibilities very seriously. He had a tendency to not form lasting relationships having been burned in the past and is quite a loner. Caroline doesn't have an easy life, and she's quite insecure and due to her past quite often doubts her worth, the bright point being her friendship and connection with her twin best friends Lucy and Luke. The attraction and chemistry between Caroline and Clayton is instant, intense, passionate and believable. Clay's siblings who appeared in Lost Rider, and Kiss My Boots, both appear quite frequently within the story line. Cowboy Up is a well written, heartwarming romance full of emotion, heat, heart and humor. For anyone who loves a small town contemporary romance, with strong themes of friendship and family, this is a book for you. Cowboy up is passionate, and exciting with a touch of intrigue, and suspense that kept me completely enthralled and glued to my kindle. |
