This was such a fun story! I lead a nature playgroup and this addition to circle time added a fun romp for all the kids! It was so entertaining to see them howl and jump around! |
What a cute and informative book! The cover is gorgeous and fun and the inside lives up to the cover! I love that it teaches natural history and all about animals in more detail than most books like this and also includes fun activities to go along with the information. Really good book for kids who are interested in and love animals. |
Ideal early childhood or kids yoga class curriculum which invites children to move and experience animals while deepening their core concepts. |
A cute, brightly illustrated collection of interesting animal facts with easy, kid-friendly educational activities. Definitely appealing to younger kids, older kids might be turned off by some of the activities, which skew younger. |

Kids will learn a whole lot more than just how to howl in Howl like a Wolf!. From sliding like a penguin to transforming like a frog, kids will learn all about a variety of animals and how to realistically pretend to be them. The book is informative and encourages kids to get up, get moving, and try out these animal characteristics for themselves. A great book for imaginative play! |
I received this copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Howl Like a Wolf introduces young readers to different creatures found around the world. Each creature introduces itself and shares facts with readers using the first person. Delightful illustrations accompany each page. Then, there are activities that children can do that relate to the creture that they just learned about. I loved that the activities were simple, cost effective, and gave suggestions for group and individual play. They also encourage going outside--always a bonus! I really appreciate that many animals featured in the book are those many may think of as "gross" (bats), scary (rattlesnakes), or pests (skunks). This is a nice step towards chaning mindsets about these animals. |

This beautifully illustrated book called Howl Like a Wolf! covers 15 different animals. The author has studied biology and environmental studies and the information shared in this book shows that, it is interesting and detailed. As a teacher I find the suggested learning activities useful and imaginative. Many children have an interest in animals and wildlife, and for curious young minds this book will provide a wealth of answers to questions they may be beginning to consider. Overall an enjoyable read and suitable for children 5-9 in my opinion. |
A book full of wonderful illustrations and great, short information on a variety of animals. It encourages children to foster their imagination and, in doing so, encourages empathy for their wild brethren. I feel an educator or adult could make more use out of this for classes or group activities, and for some such as the wolf activities, highly encourage a child NOT do them without supervision (red flag on baring teeth at the family dog!). Still, it's worth picking for a read. Bonus is including one of my favorite animals: the bowerbird! |
I expected a picture book with some facts about the animals, but you get much more than that. A fun chapter book that encourages learning and physical activity at the same time. You learn some interesting facts about animals and then children are encouraged to act like the animal, using all the new facts they have learned. I loved that this book encourages, children to act like the animals giving tips and ideas on how to do so, but while also encouraging imagination and creativity. The facts about animals are well researched and presented in a fun and easy manner. The last animal in the book was a surprise, and was quite informative. |

This was an interesting and informative children's book about animals. I loved how the illustrations were very appropriate for children while the information about each animal was interesting. My three year old loved the craft ideas and imitating the animal actions and sounds. This is one I would enjoying having in print format. (Thanks to Netgalley for this ebook in exchange for an honest review.) |
This book is a neat concept. It teaches children about different animals. It provides facts, crafts, and actions to be like the animals in the book. It was really neat. #netgalley |
Beautiful illustrations and a fun story line, this book would be a perfect edition to any library-home, school, or public. |
I actually didn't mean to get this book for review but I entered a giveaway and received a link to this book. So I read it to my 4-year-old sister. She loved it she loved learning about the animals and doing the activities. I really liked that it was a wide variety of animals instead of the common animals you find in kid books. The last one was for sure not expected but it was really interesting to learn about. My favorite part of the book, however, was the artwork. I found it to be really beautiful and the colors were very vivid. My sister enjoyed the book so much that I plan to buy a physical copy for her bookshelf |
This book was beautiful and kept my 3 children busy! I’m excited to try it out at story time and see how the little ones at my library like it. |
This interactive nonfiction book would be a great asset to homeschools and science curriculums. |
Howl Like a Wolf: Why Animals Do What They Do – and How You Can Do It, Too! is a children's non fiction book written by Kathleen Yale and illustrated by Kaley McKean. It is currently scheduled for release on March 6 2018. Kids generally love to watch, imitate, learn about, and pretend to be animals. But there’s a lot more to being a dog than just panting and walking on all fours. This book combines natural history with creative play activities to encourage children to think like an animal. For each featured animal, children learn key facts such as what it eats; where it lives; who else lives with it; and how it interacts with other animals. Creative prompts then teach kids how to mimic more subtle aspects of behavior that are central to the animal’s life and survival. Howl Like a Wolf: Why Animals Do What They Do – and How You Can Do It, Too! is a fun and fascinating read, offering facts and activities that invite young readers (and their class or family) to not just learn about the animals but to act and think like them as well. Animals included are the wolf, penguin, elephant, bat, octopus, rattlesnake, bowerbird, beaver, leopard, humpback whale, honeybee, raven, skunk, frog, deer, and tardigrade. The information and activities are easy to understand and fully engaging. I found that the book offered a good deal of information I already knew, but I think young readers will find new information here. I thought the illustrations were well paired with the information. The images were charming and accurate in turn, offering a visual representation of the facts along some inspiration for the activities and further exploration of the topic. I think this would be a great addition to classroom and home libraries, particularly those with animal or nature lovers. |
WHAT BIG TEETH YOU HAVE! A wolf's teeth are sharp, big, and heavy. They look a lot like your pet dog's teeth, but their jaws are much stronger. In fact, the force of their bite is strong enough to break bones. We start this amazing story with the Gray Wolf and I already love it! The animal facts are well written both informational and kid friendly. It helps who ever is reading them think of them in real life. It also has the kids practice being the animal (acting like it), how cool is that?!?!? The rest of this wonderful book continues like this. I want this book!!! I need this book for my classroom library. 1. Grey Wolf 2. Emperor Penguin 3. African Elephant Did you know elephants are one of only a few animals who can recognize their own reflections in a mirror? I had no idea!! 4. Little Brown Bat 5. Giant Pacific Octopus One of the subheadings in this part of the book is Suckers! another is Escape Artists. 6. Diamondback Rattlesnake 7. Great Bowerbird 8. North American Beaver 9. Leopard 10. Humpback Whale 11. Western Honeybee 12. Northern Raven 13. Striped Skunk 14. Columbia Spotted Frog 15. White-Tailed Deer Extra animal, Tardigrade. Which looks like something out a horror film. A microorganism, which needs a special microscope or magnifying glass to see...thankfully because, ewwww. I love this book so much and the illustrations are beautiful. What a great book! |
