This was a fantastic addition to the Irish and Whiskey series. The story is set during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I normally do not like a lot of jumping back in forth from the past to present but it so worked out in this book. We get to see how they got to where they are today (not giving away any spoilers here). I didn't figure out their little secret. We do get a dose of Irish & Whiskey and I just love those boys! The presents at the end were perfect. Oh and along the way we get the whole "Die Hard" feel, which I absolutely adored. |
3.5 Stars Tequila Sunrise is a great M/F spinoff to the Whiskey & Irish series especially if you did not get enough of kickass sidekicks Mel Cruz and Daniel Talley. Aptly marketed as a reverse Die Hard, there is no shortage of danger and thrills in this little novella, which takes place on Christmas Eve during a major milestone for the Talley family and corporation. I thought the writing was masterful as always, but the pacing suffered from far too many flashbacks, insightful as they were. Still a solid addition to the Whiskey and Irish series, with plenty of Jamie and Aidan (as well as Nick and Cam!) to keep everyone happy. Recommended for fans of the series. |
Another great book by Layla Reyne! Suspenful, sexy all of the wonderful characters accounted for! Love the little, secret Mel and Danny were keeping. Would have liked for the book to be longer only because I can’t get enough of the characters! Hoping for a little Danny or Mel running around. |
Soooo, am I the only person who noticed this is the plot to Die Hard? It's a 33K word novella, about a third of it is flashbacks, and the rest is Die Hard. This is a gender flipped Die Hard. It even has the barefoot over broken glass scene and the crawling through ventilation shafts scene. In addition to that it has all of the major plot points of the movie. All the way down to the specific details about Hans Gruber being kicked out of the organization he had been in. Except it's Sarah Lynch. I love the Agents Irsh and Whiskey series. I'm monumentally disappointed in this rip-off. |
I am a huge fan of the Agents Irish and Whiskey series and made a not so quiet fact that I would love a story with Mel and Danny. Well, I got what I wanted and then it went above and beyond. This was amazing. As one who adored Melissa and Daniel as a couple, I loved seeing how it all began. I love how the story was told, through both POV’s of Danny and Mel as well as in the past and the present. We get the sweet and bittersweet from both their pasts with Danny and Sean, Aidan and Danny, Mel and Gabe and we get glimpses into what was going on with the couple during Aidan and Jamie’s books. Assuming the norm with this group and their assured high profiled lives, it wasn’t too far-fetched to have the action in this novella match that of Agents Irish and Whiskey series. This starts off with Mel just trying to get home to Danny and Aidan trying to get home to Jamie so that they can all celebrate with the Talley’s aboard the newly named ship after their mother, the Ellen. But this group has the perchance for people wanting to harm them, so they are both detained yet but the bad guys forget who they are up against. Boy but did this novella have my heart in a vice. I was on edge through all of it, knowing how much Danny and Mel have already gone through but when Mel whispers four words to a bad guy I was floored. Floored and so freaking happy that I can’t help but smile thinking of the secret they had been keeping. Though secrets between Mel and Danny have caused heartache before, this one is so very worth it. There are plenty of opportunities in this Christmas novella to see Jamie and Aidan as well as Cam and Nic who I am strongly hoping get a book as well. There is too much between them already and just the thought of them together… *bites fist* yeah, those two will be off the charts hot and stupidly romantic. But this, goodness me I adored it. The present is amazing, but the bits of Mel and Danny in the past hit me straight in the feels. Knowing the moment Danny admits he fell for Mel, knowing how much Mel needed to know Danny was hers completely… the author knows how to write romance and passion and have it come off the page so strongly it sets you on your ass. Too bad my ass wasn’t cuffed to a chair like Danny because that was so damn hot. Yeah, I love the power play with Mel and Danny so much. They just fit perfectly. This is a fantastic addition to the Agents Irish and Whiskey series. Set over Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, we get a sort of Die Hard feeling (that I watch as a Christmas movie every year) all while ladling out passion and romance that borderlines epic. The presents at the end blew my mind and a few times I got teary eyed but it’s the best kind of reaction. If you liked Mel and Danny in the Agents Irish and Whiskey series. You don’t want to miss this! |

3* A bit of a fill-the-gap-but-also-introduce-a-future-lead tale. Well-written, but missing...stuff. If you've read the Aidan and Jamie tales, then like me, you probably had high expectations of this one. It features Mel and Danny, the former sister-in-law of, and brother to, Aidan, so they're known characters whose romance started in the series. Unfortunately, the series was a little too obvious in what happened to Mel and Aidan at the start, and then the tangent to a supposed terrorist organisation and then to the crux of the matter, which felt really, really weak and fabricated. Also, from the moment a certain character appeared and got bigged-up, it was clear that this would be Cameron's co-lead in a future tale, and lo-and-behold, I was on track. It's an OK read, but it's not anywhere near up there with the original series. ARC courtesy of Carina Press and NetGalley, for my reading pleasure. |
i adored Mel from the moment she appeared in the AIW series and i totally shipped her and Danny right away. So the relationship unfolding in the background of Jamie and Aidan's story had me hooked. So of couuurse i was thrilled they were getting this novella. Mel is a badass and i love how Danny loves that about her. I want mooore of these twooo. i know i know im being greedy maybe, but i still want more! They were so good together. As with Layla's books we have some action going on here! whew! This family draws trouble like ants to sweet things but it makes for some tense fun for sure. Throughout the story we get flashbacks for both Danny and Mel, of their time together and key moments when they were younger. I loved those. they really shed some light on parts of their relationship we werent privy to in the AIW series and the snapshot of moments from their youth really added some depth to who they are as people. This book is about family as much as it is about these Mel and Danny's relationship. The Talleys are a close knit group and i love how Mel fits right in and they love her! :) Also there's a thiiiiiiing that had me squealing but no spoilers so :D quick, fast paced, awesome read. Alsooo made me excited for more Cam and Nic! Thoroughly enjoyed! |
I have had my eye on the Agent Irish and Whiskey series for a while so when the chance came to review this I jumped at it, even though this was a spin off. Tequila Sunrise was everything you could want in a novella. It was fast-paced without being rushed and a story that was complete on its own. I've read novellas where it feels a bit rushed or under developed but this isn't the case here. Now although I have yet to read the main series I was able to follow the story easily. Though it definitely would have filled out my understanding of the world if I had, I wasn't lost or feeling like I was missing vital information. And I think that's evidence of really good writing on Reyne's part because it might have been easy to feel lost but I didn't. And it certainly boosted my excited for the main series even more. I loved Mel and Danny's chemistry together and Tequila Sunrise was a short but very enjoyable read. |
I really enjoyed this! I loved these characters throughout the first three books of the Irish and Whiskey series and could not wait to get into their heads more. Mel and Danny are such strong people with fierce love for their families, jobs, and lives. They both fit so well together that there was no doubt that they would sizzle on page when they got their chance. The suspense and action of the story is a lot of fun. This is what they do... they, especially Mel, solve problems. In this case, there is a huge problem needing to be solved, lives are at stake, and time is running out quick. So when the action happens, it goes by quickly. I did have some minor issues with the way some of this action is broken up. I'm not a big fan of flashback sequences or scenes, and this book is riddled with them. There really are a lot and I sometimes found myself falling out of the intensity of the present moment because I was taken back to a time when either Danny or Mel was remembering a thing. Thankfully, these flashback moments aren't individually long, just frequent, and they are informative. The informative piece is important because some time has passed since the end of the third book of the series with Irish and Whiskey. That said, this was still a ton of fun to read and I do love Danny and Mel together. For any fans of the Irish and Whiskey series, this is a must read. There is suspense, action, some closure with regards to other characters, some little nuggets of maybies for yet a couple other characters, some sweet and tender moments, and a whole lot of reconnecting with our favorites Jameson and Aidan. |
