Lift the flap book for children 3 yrs and above.
This is a cute little lift-the-flap book with adorable illustrations. Each of the six characters owns a suitcase containing items pertaining to their professions. The flaps lift to reveal the contents, which can then be searched for on the next page, in the context of their day to day uses.
This provides the perfect opportunity to discuss professions and the items used with young children.

My one small niggle with this book is the use of the term 'suitcase'. The tool case is not technically a suitcase, nor is the cello case. In fact the only true suitcase is the little bag that Piggy takes for a sleepover at his Grandparents. I remember when my children entered year 4, being told at a parents' evening, that we should take great care to inform our children correctly. Ever since, I have been particular about doing just that, which is why this generic use of the word suitcase is grating with me.
Apart from that, this is a fabulous little book for children aged 3 and above.

Cute story where kids have to open the suitcases and find who the suitcase belongs to. Very colorful and entertaining.

A lift the flap book. Illustrations are bright and colourful. There are many suitcases and we have to guess whom it may belong and then we see the things in the suitcase being used in the next page. It introduces children to various jobs. It was also nice to see that the animals were not restricted only to their profession and page.

I am reviewing an eARC of this book which I received from the publisher through NetGalley.

I fell in love with this little book even reviewing it without the flaps! The illustrations are happy and whimsical and very well done. The toddler having this book read to them needs to figure out who the suitcase belongs to based on how it is decorated and the clothes etc. that the characters have on. What I loved about this book is that it goes on to show what is contained in the suitcases and then what the character does with the tools, etc in the suitcase.

I think this book is so eye catching it will be one of a child's favorite books. My almost 2 year old granddaughter loves lift the flap books but they can often be just too simple. This one challenges her to think about the items in the suitcase and then see as the character uses these items, i.e. The Cow is a musician and then plays the cello contained in the suitcase for her friends Piggy and Rabbit. The last suitcase belongs to little Piggy who is going to stay over at Grandma's house which can develop a nice conversation with the older toddler about what he/she would take for a trip overnight!

I highly recommend this book and will be purchasing it for my two granddaughters, both almost 2 years old.

Will also post to Amazon upon publication.

OPEN THE SUITCASE is a lift the flap book for toddlers. The illustrations were bold, bright and definitely appealing to small children. Each "suitcase" is filled with a different professional's tools so that small children can learn to match the items. For example, the doctor's suitcase has a stethoscope, etc.

While better in print because a child can physically open the suitcase, even the digital copy wasn't awkwardly in formatting, unlike some lift the flap books.

This is the perfect book for young children. They will love lifting the flaps and guessing which animal goes with each suitcase. Fun illustrations done in bright colors with interaction make this a great purchase for parents and libraries.

What child doesn't love a lift the flap book? They are by fair the most popular books I read at story time and I know this one would be an absolute hit. The story is simple, and gives children instructions while also getting them to think about what is in the case. Guessing what is in there is just as much fun as lifting the flap and seeing what is actually in there.

The book is designed to encourage children to make a connection between what is in the case and what is on the following page. Using animals as the "people"on each page is familiar to children and allows more scope for the book, that is by being able to talk about the animals and make the noises that belong to them.

Some connections younger children may not understand, such as when they ask why Horse is sad today. From an adult perspective I can guess that is because Horsey has to do math. Younger children may not make that connection. If I was reading this to a group of three year olds, I would leave that line out.

Overall, it is a lovely book that is colourful, children identify with the scenarios - doctors, magician and school, and has an uncomplicated story that 3 year olds and above can understand.

This is adorable! It's the perfect mix of story and interactive fun. Not just lifting the suitcase flap, but guessing who's suitcase it is and finding the contents. Kids will love this!

My very first question on this book is why is Horse sad. They mention he is sad, but never give a reason. Maybe the reader can figure it out. This lift the flap book is all about figuring it out. You have a suitcase, and want to match the suitcase to an animal. One the suitcase is matched, it’s time to guess what is in it. Once you know what is in the suitcase, the reader learns how those items are used. I really liked this book, flaps and all. The illustrations put a smile on my face.

The story is really cute and has potential. But the interactive part of it failed miserably on my devices. If there is a requirement - it needs to be stated.

This board book would be a great addition for a Libraries preschool collection..

Open the Suitcase, by Ruth Wielockx is an entertaining children's book.

Each animal character has a different job, which correlates to the belongings in their suitcases. As an interactive lift-the-flap book, it spans thirty-two pages and features easy-to-read text and adorable illustrations.

Open the Suitcase is geared towards young readers, particularly ages three and older.

Note: I received this book from NetGalley, which is a program designed for bloggers tow write book reviews in exchange for books, yet the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Different animals have different jobs! Can you guess which animal has which job based on their suitcase? (The clothing hints help.) Meet different friends with different jobs, with a fun flap on each spread that gives readers a peek inside their work bag. See what a teacher, a magician, a doctor, and a car mechanic take to work with them! There's an opportunity to talk to readers about what they would pack in an overnight bag for a sleepover; use that as a chance to talk about what goes in your bag when you go on vacation; what goes in Mom's or Dad's bag, and what different people in careers may have in their bags. What about what goes in a diaper bag? (Eww! Not stinky diapers, I hope!) A fun addition to toddler and preschooler bookshelves and a chance to talk about different careers.

This book will definitely get the kids engaged as a flip book always demands the attention of the young reader. It's a great introductory book into different professions and what tools are needed. Will lead to curious minds wanting to know about certain profession and asking deeper questions.

This cute lift-a-flap book will have children guessing about several things. Adorable cartoon characters of a Horse, Rabbit, Dog, Cow, Piggy and Cat each have a suitcase. They first describe the outside to see that will help guess whose it is, then when you lift the flap you will see what is inside to see if that helps with the guess. My grandkids love lift-a-flap books. When you turn the page, it tells you who the suitcase belongs to, what they use the items for and the child does a little search to see if they can find all the items from the suitcase. The illustrations are colourful and the emotions on the faces of the characters are happy. This book would definitely engage young children and help them with vocabulary, observation and teach them a bit about some careers. A great book for a pre-school or kindergarten classroom as well as a home library where there are young children.

The cover drew me to this book and its a great interactive book for toddlers. The author combines animals and human professions and makes it interactive for young children.

This engaging lift the flap book is sure to delight toddlers with a love of animals. The illustrations are sweet and draw young children to the adorable images. The illustrations also support the text of finding animals and suitcases that "match" through use of patterns.

The colorful illustrations offer lots of opportunities to move beyond the text and discuss shapes and sounds. The title is only as limited as your imagination and desire to work with your child.

This delightful interactive book will have young kids asking to turn the page from the get-go. Adorable cartoon characters Horse, Rabbit, Dog, Cow, Piggy and Cat all show off their belongings as their suitcase opens up and is ready for inspection by the reader. Kids always love and are entertained by a lift-the-flap format, one that will have them coming back again and again for just one more peek.

The book is sprinkled with lots of engaging questions to get curious minds thinking and focused on what they are reading. Their discoveries in the suitcase will enhance vocabularies and give kids some insight into the careers this variety of animals chose to pursue.

The illustrations are happy, expressive and emotional with vivid coloured backgrounds that pull the reader into the narrative. The last page makes the story very personal.

Piggy is off to a sleep over at his Grandma and Grandpa's....

"Do you see what Piggy is taking in his little suitcase?
What would you put in your suitcase?"

The text, the illustrations, the opportunity to interact are spot on for this age-group and I would certainly recommend getting a copy of the book to enjoy.
