I really wanted to like this book. It had so much potential going in but it felt too predictable. I liked Ivy and Jackson and their chemistry was hot! However, I just didn't like the way Ivy basically used her past as a crutch. I get that she had a rough childhood and that her mom was a crappy parent. She didn't seem to grow through her experience with Jackson though and that was a major letdown. I wish we could have gotten a few things from Jackson's POV. That probably would have made me love this one. |
Received in exchange for a honest review. Cindi Madsen has once again given us a sassy, stubborn female lead who needs to be smacked upside her head to see what is right in front of her because she is to busy freaking out and running and it makes the book more fun and entertaining. Ivy is a commitmentphobe with a capital C. She is feisty, sassy and tries to show she needs no one but herself to survive. After her childhood, the idea of love and happiness with one man is something she is allergic to and swears isn’t real. She is the perfect challenge for Jackson-the one that frustrates her beyond belief and yet gets her blood pumping as well. Jackson is Ivy’s BFF’s brother. He is smart, sexy and just so darn sweet. But boy do him and Ivy love to get on each other. The one liners and barbs at each other are hilarious. The sexual tension and attraction is through the roof as well. The problem isn’t that they don’t like each other it is that Ivy feels when she is around him. And it breaks all her rules. Rules that Jackson makes her want to break. So when she gets in over her head on a house renovation project it is Jackson who is there for her. He helps her fix the house up and her heart as well. We see Jackson work so patiently in gaining Ivy’s trust and having her see that he is going nowhere. Only she does freak out and pushes buttons due to this. I love that Jackson isn’t letting her push him away. That he is challenging her and also showing where he wants to be and opening up to her about his feelings. I love that Jackson has patience and believes in them even when Ivy is an idiot and needs to be smacked upside the head. these two alone are great characters but when together are awesome. They help each other by pushing and challenging the other to be the best they can be. Jackson helps Ivy realize where she want s her future to be and encourages her as well. He supports her and respects her. Ivy learns that Jackson is there for her and she can be herself with him. The story is flirty, full of witty banter and sarcasm as well. It has one liners and barbs that are hilarious but also show how much tension and attraction is between Jackson and Ivy. It is one where learning to accept the past and not let it control you is needed to move forward and let love in. One of taking chances and finding love along the way. A fun entertaining story that takes place while fixing up a house and falling in love at the same time. |
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book I could tell by reading this book that it was a book from a series BUT it was written well enough to be read as a standalone story. Ivy has issues, she has set rules about love and relationships that equal NO on both She knows her best friend wants to help her (Being she is a dating coach) but she still says no When Ivy is at her BFF"s engagement party she sees her brother Jackson. the same Jackson who she had a one week stand with a few months ago that ending HORRIBLY. Jackson and Ivy agree to try to be civil to each other at least through all the wedding events. Ivy gets pretty emotional and a little tipsy at the party and leaves early, When she notices a for sale sign in front of an old victorian house a house she remembers as one of the only happy places from her childhood She calls the owner (Dixie) who she knows well and talks her into letting her have one last look inside before it goes on the market. When Ivy does her walk through the next morning (with a hangover of both alcohol and emotions) she decides that she can do a renovation on the house and flip it for more for Dixie, I mean she has watch HGTV and she knows what she is doing right, RIGHT? lol When she starts on her renovations things start out all wrong for her, the wallpaper wont come off like it does on those shows, she has leaky pipes that she cant fix, and a mouse issue. When she calls her best friend for help what does she do she sends Jackson to help WOW does the heat, sparks, snarky comments and pranks fly while the two work together. All while Ivy knows that her BFF has warned her that Jackson is looking for something and someone permanent, Something Ivy cant do. But Jackson truly has other plans. He is going to have Ivy and he is going to woo her. I LOVED This book I could not put it down. and OMG what a wonderful beautiful HEA ending!!!! |
This book was a DNF for me. Sadly. I usually love Cindi's books but this one just didn't grab me from the start and make me want to keep reading. The heroine was already getting on my nerves in the first pages of the book. |

Cindi Madsen rocks it again!! Cindi is becoming one of my favorite new authors. Her books are hands down some of the wittiest and entertaining books I've read. From the beginning - you know it's going to be fun reading Ivy and Jackson's story. Ivy's ways are just meant to be broken. They share a brief past and then Jackson comes to Ivy's rescue when she takes on a HGTV-like project where she's in way over her head. "He and I had two settings - crazy attraction and crazy irritation." You know this is going to be good!! Succubus slams and all. Ivy's a commitment phobe, but Jackson is one determined guy. It makes for a raucous relationship that you don't want to miss. I submitted a request to the publisher to read and voluntarily review an advance copy of this book via Net Galley. |
Ivy Clarke doesn't believe in love, but there isn't anything wrong with engaging in a limited-time affair. So, when she starts working side-by-side with Jackson Gamble to renovate a house, she finds herself heading into unfamiliar territory and falling deeper under his spell. Will she realize she's in love with Jackson before it's too late, or will their chance at happy ever after slip by? What a completely compelling and absolutely engaging read Ms. Madsen has delivered in this book, which offered plenty of amusing moments and delicious tension between the main characters that had me turning the pages until I was at the end of the story quicker than I thought I would be. The way this story started had me wanting to laugh at the heroine's predicament, as being a disbeliever of love would make anyone want to run from the conversation Ivy's found herself having with someone. However, it was from the moment the hero and heroine came face-to-face for the first time that had me absolutely charmed by this couple's intense chemistry and the way they interact. They seem to be frenemies since Ivy is Jackson's sister's best friend and she treats the hero as an enemy because of everything that's happened between them. Does she really think seeing him as the enemy is going to be able to keep her from falling in love? As for the dialogue, it was well-written, entertaining and I liked the heroine's cynicism when it came to love and relationships. Really, it was endearing trait of Ivy's, especially when she's up against Jackson doing everything he can to prove her wrong when it comes to her believing the only person she can rely on is herself. Moreover, the heroine is extremely independent and I could understand why after everything she's been through in the past that makes her determined not to give any man a chance. I also liked her enthusiasm for renovating the house, as she's quite good at it. Yet, what I liked most of all about the heroine is her courage in taking a chance on Jackson, even though it's hard for her to put her trust in a man. Then again, he's one of the good guys. While the hero, he is one of the best heroes I've read lately due to his back story and his determination to win the heroine over by everything he does, especially the moment where they are with his family. Will Ivy go off at him for what he does? I also enjoyed the tight bond he shares with his family, as his sister, his mom and his aunt are determined to see him find happiness. Overall, Ms. Madsen has delivered a fantastic read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was heady and formidable; and the ending filled me with joy because of what the heroine does in order to win Jackson back after things go awry between them. Certainly, Ivy has plenty of courage and is determined in her plan. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up perfectly, because of the surprise Jackson has for Ivy. I would recommend Nailed It by Cindi Madsen, if you enjoy the enemy to lovers trope, the friends to lovers trope, the sister's best friend trope, or books by authors Emma Hart, Wynter Daniels, Sara Ney and Kadie Scott. |

Cindi Madsen nailed it with this book. Ivy and Jackson are an amazing couple. I laughed and swooned so much during this read. I volunteered to read a copy of this book |
this book was just ok. my main issue was that we never got the hero's perspective. the heroine was such a mess and kept him at arms length for most of the book so i never understood why he was so committed to her, especially after a one week fling in their past. she wasn't a very sympathetic character so i never really was rooting for her. |
'm Ivy Clarke. Bartender, best friend, and disbeliever in love. And now I'm in over my head, trying to flip a house all by myself. Thanks, HGTV. I'm not too proud to admit I need some help. Too bad the only one who can help me is the same man I want to throw out this house's second-story window. Jackson Gamble and I can't be in the same room together for more than a minute without devolving into a sparring match. Except for that one time… But enough about that. Jackson's looking for forever, and I don't believe in love, remember? Get in. Renovate. Get out. Keep my heart firmly in tact. Because it's much easier to fix up a house than a broken heart. Full of humor and dripping with delicious tension, Nailed It proves that every heart can be ready for a little rehabilitation, if only you're willing to open it up. This kind of reminded me of Property Brothers with romance and sniping. I really loved it. It's the author that I've found that I really like. All her books are different and have just that old time romantic feel to them. This was no different. It had a lot of funny parts in it and I really love when a book has that. I want to laugh, cry, and just all-around enjoy the novel. Ivy and Jackson...they had some really good chemistry together. Even though I haven't read the first book in the series and you don't have to - this was a solid second book. I was given an ARC copy of this book by the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect anyone else’s. |
Ivy has relationship avoidance down to a science. After seeing how her mother has jumped from man to man her whole life, Ivy has rules she follows to prevent herself from getting hurt. Jackson, her best friend Savannah's brother, has always had a way of getting under her skin. When she starts working on a house renovation with him, the sparks start to fly. Ivy has a lot of wit and sass and makes a fun narrator. I do wish, though, we had gotten to see some of the events from Jackson's perspective. It would have been fun to get into his head a little bit. While I enjoyed the plot and learning more about both Ivy and Jackson, it did feel a little long. The last 20% or so was my favorite part and the ending was wonderful! This is a companion book to 12 Steps to Mr. Right, but can be read as a stand-alone. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. |
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review. |
I feel like I've been waiting on this book for a long time. I've been excited for a book about Ivy since I read 12 Steps to Mr. Right. I love Ivy. She doesn't get serious with guys, and she doesn't do relationships, ever. She's seen what love can do to people and doesn't want to feel the heartache and pain that comes along with it. Jackson could change that all. He's her best friend's brother, and when he's asked by Savannah to help out her BFF during a house renovation, he reluctantly agrees to it. Jackson and Ivy are hysterical together. Their banter is witty, fun, and filled with innuendo. I loved seeing these two together. Jackson has his own meddling family that's ready for him to settle down. I loved everything about this book. I loved the best friend's brother trope and seeing how they were going to work things out. Madsen is always a go-to author for me. I know I'm going to get laughs, awkward moments, and connect with her characters. |

3 stars -- I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion. Well bummer. This one just didn't grab me. I didn't dislike it, but it was solidly meh for me. Since this book was entirely from Ivy's POV, I found I didn't have as much to go on for Jackson. What I saw of him I definitely liked, but I have a feeling that I would have loved him even more if I'd had more time with him, or could have seen inside his head. So really, all I had to go on was Ivy. And Ivy was NOT my kind of girl. I think I was supposed to empathize with her past and how that shaped her into the commitment-phobe she'd become. And it worked to a point, my heart did actually break for the childhood she had, and the way her mother treated her, and how those experiences shaped her. And if I'd seen some growth and change along the way, I might have tolerated it more. But I just didn't buy hers. I don't know why. Honestly, it's one of those things you just feel from reading, but can't explain why you didn't connect. It's like...I just couldn't connect with Ivy along the story. And when we got to the end, it felt a bit more about-face-like instead of a slow journey. I think it's because she clung so hard to her beliefs. And I just got tired of it. Along those same lines, this book became a bit repetitive at times...or at least it felt that way to me. I felt like she would bring up the same incidences from her childhood to explain her relationship aversion. Honestly, I wanted to start skimming just to see when she would finally figure things out. I think I'm just not a patient reader. Especially when I find myself unable to fully empathize with a character. The other little thing that tweaked me that I wasn't expecting was the level of steaminess...or something. I don't know how to categorize this. See, I'll read sweet/clean completely fade to black stories. And I'll read erotica. But I don't think I've read this Entangled imprint before, and this story was somewhere in between. Like I'd get the early sexy times part, but then when we got to the act it would just be glossed over. And not to sound like a sex-starved idiot, but it felt like a tease, because I honestly felt like it was going the more detailed way, and then just when we'd get to that part, blah blah blah, generic glossover, done. Seriously, this is the stupidest thing to complain about, but it just caught me off guard. There's nothing wrong with it whatsoever, it's just not my personal favourite. Or else I was just in a mood. Who knows with me. OK, I feel like all I've done is complain. In general I really enjoyed the bantering and snarkiness between Ivy and Jackson... Sometimes it felt a bit more hostile than I was comfortable with, but other times it hit that tone just right where I was laughing my butt off, and I could really feel the chemistry between them. I also really enjoyed the relationship that Ivy had with Savannah, and how their friendship played a role. And again, what I saw of Jackson I really adored. I LOVED how he stuck by her, and waited out her stubbornness, and how he saw her...both her flaws and her strengths. So yeah. Like I said, it wasn't a terrible book. I just didn't connect with it like I'd been hoping to. Ah well, not every book is going to be a match. |
Madsen definitely NAILED IT with this book. I loved Ivy's character. She made me laugh. Jackson loves to punch her buttons every chance he gets - very much like little boys pick on the girl they like. Ivy is convinced that a long term relationship is not for her but Jackson has other ideas. Definitely a book I recommend reading. |

I’ve been dying to get my hands on Ivy and Jackson’s story ever since they verbally sparred in “12 Steps to Finding Mr. Right”. Cindi Madsen nailed it once again by giving us a sassy, feisty heroine on the outside but conflicted, broken, and looking for love even though she doesn’t realize it on the inside. Her hilarious internal monologues often had me giggling aloud, and I absolutely loved both character’s quick comebacks to their back and forth banter. Jackson, the good guy/construction worker hero, has just the right tools to mend her broken soul, folks. I’m talking about his heart and determination to get this girl to see the light and possibilities of a meaningful relationship with him. Well, his lips, hands, and other body parts came in pretty handy, too, of course. He took quite a few emotional punches to the heart as he let Ivy work through her fears and insecurities until she fully surrendered her heart and soul to him. Yeah, there is some brief OW drama, because the main couple are not dating at the beginning, but he only went on a few dates with her. Details of some important events that happened after the end of book 1 but before this storyline began are eventually revealed. We are left with a surprising role reversal from your stereotypical romantic read, folks. This time around it is the heroine who tries to keep the hero at arms length, because she is afraid of getting hurt by committing to a relationship. The hero patiently struggles through on and off again rejection determined to be there for her when she is finally ready to let love conquer those deeply embedded fears. Title: Nailed It, Author: Cindi Madsen, Pages: 331, stand-alone but part of a series, lots of relationship angst, great back and forth banter, heroine’s POV, celibate during separation, afraid to love/sassy/feisty bartender heroine, wants to commit good guy, patient hero, very steamy scenes, briefly dates OW but not intimate with her, no OM drama. Book 1 - 12 Steps to Mr. Right (Savannah & Linc), 9/26/16, Pages: 350 Book 2 - Nailed It (Jackson & Ivy), 10/23/17, Pages: 331 (I received a free advanced reader copy provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I picked this book based on the blurb and I am so glad I did. I loved Jackson and Ivy and their bumpy road to a HEA. The banter between them is funny, the tension is crazy, the chemistry is off the charts hot. It's well written and the flow keeps you reading until the very end and the characters are real, well developed. Ivy is stubborn, but she's just trying to protect herself. Jackson makes that difficult. Pick up this book and find out how this all works out for this couple. I loved it and recommend it! I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. |
4.5 Stars Ivy Clarke doesn’t believe in love… or long term relationships. So when she decides to renovate a house, and one of her flings shows up to help, she should be running for the hills. Except Jackson Gamble is her best friends brother… and he happens to know how to push every single one of her buttons… When Ivy and Jackson start spending a lot of time alone together during the renovation, old feelings start to come back full force. Even though they’ve done the whole frenemies-to-lovers thing before, they decide this time will be different… This was a fantastic book! This story was interesting and funny, I love some banter and sexual tension and this book had some of the best! Ivy is pretty neurotic about her fear of commitment… of any kind. While her running away was trying at times, you could see where she gets it from with the unfortunate role model she had in her mother. But her best friend is a light in her life who stands by her and doesn’t judge her for her life choices. I loved this friendship, it was refreshing how accepting the two were of each other. Jackson seems pretty straightforward about wanting Ivy, any way he can get her and for however long she will let him. He is sexy, sweet, and determined… and you’ll be rooting for him the entire time! I received a complimentary copy of the book for my honest and unbiased review. |
I loved this book!! Ivy and Jackson were such great characters! I could not put this book down once I started it. I have loved every book I have read by this author. The writing and stories are always fabulous. If you haven’t picked up this author’s books you definitely should. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book provided by NetGalley. |
Actual Rating: 3.5/5 I am a big fan of HGTV and second chance romances, so I had really high hopes for this book. I definitely enjoyed Ivy and Jackson’s story. They were sexy and fun. The tension between them was ridiculous. Now Ivy and Jackson’ romance was also supposed to be an enemies to lovers storyline as well. I didn’t really feel that they were enemies. There was some banter that bordered on mean, but it was funny and I saw it more as flirting than antagonism. I loved the house flipping part of the book, although I felt like the beginning dragged a bit. I can’t put my finger on if it was the characters or the house flipping details that drew things out too much. Even with that, I didn’t want to put the book down. I could feel the potential of the book and the characters. It was fun to see things progress. This was not my first Cindi Madsen book and it won’t be my last. I definitely want to check out 12 Steps to Mr. Right which has Ivy’s cousin Lincoln and Jackson’s sister Savannah in it. The two books are connected, but you do not have to read them in any particular order. Arc provided by the publisher via Netgalley for an honest review |
