If I wasn’t at the edge of my seat, I’m looking for what will happen next, but then again, I didn’t have to wait long between exciting scenes. This book is non stop action from the beginning until the end. From hostage situations to bombs, to gunfights, to the steamy scenes…I devoured every page. Lanie is now part of Hornet team but seems to be having a hard time fitting in. Perhaps earning respect from the team would help, but for some reason, there is a barrier that’s preventing that from happening. With the hostage situation, Lanie will be forced to take action inadvertently showing her worth. But will it be enough to earn her the respect she deserves? Will she get it from the man she once loved? While Jesse leads the Hornets, Lanie joining the team was never an issue for him. He already respects her more than she knows. Although, with his past experience with loss, Jesse has become more protective of his crew, that including Lanie and his son which has dampened his relationship with them. He knows he has to work several issues if he wants to make both relationships work. Just like Lanie, he has a few things to sort out before giving himself the freedom to really move on. It felt like forever since the last time I’ve read this series. And when I checked, the last installment of this series was in 2015. Why Burrows waited so long, I have no idea, but she shouldn’t have waited. As I read my reviews of the previous books, I remembered how good these books are. Honestly, this book is just as good if not better. I love that Burrows wrote a love story of two people who not only found each other but also pursuing their own dreams. I love that they didn’t have to sacrifice anything for the other because they gave each other a wide berth for growth. Of course, it wasn’t easy for them in the beginning. Trust will be their biggest issue but I assure you they will survive this. As far as the action and suspense go as mentioned earlier, it’s none stop. I kid you not it was like watching a very good action film. Burrows did a good job in making this book pretty darn exciting. The banters between the guys had me laughing, and Jesse’s relationship with his son was heartwarming. I like that Burrows portrayal of the characters are both kick ass and easy to love. Next up is the Cajun Hornet, the player of the team, who apparently have been cursed. Poor guy. I have a feeling his story will be very entertaining. |

The story starts off oddly, with Jesse cleaning the barn stalls out while his son hides in their home. He recently obtained custody of his 16 y/o son after his ex-wife states she can no longer handle his behavior. Conner resents his parents: his mom for not forcing him to live with his dad, his dad for not being present while he was growing up. Jesse does not know how to connect with his son. Jesse is a medic with "Hornet" a secret contract military operative that takes care of problems the USA military can not. Jesse and his team are about to go out on a training operation in the Caribbean. Unknown to Jesse and his team there is no other operation that is also on the island... to attempt to obtain a new medicine that cures all illnesses. The two operatives must fight each other to see who will win. Jesse and his crew have no guns, or way to get help except through the hotel chain's owner (who is also Hornets owner) and he can not get help to them fast enough. Can these men and one woman win the battle, and save all the hostages? Read the book to find out the fast / exciting conclusion to the story . The only problem I had was the story left me with more questions. |
Jesse Warrick and Lanie Delcambre have done everything they can to deny the chemistry that bounces between them, and now, with Jesse being promoted to field commander of HORNET, a relationship between them can't happen. However, when the HORNET team finds themselves in the right place at the wrong time when a group of terrorists take over the island they're staying at, Jesse decides to take a chance. Will they survive the terrorists plot, so they get their happy ever after; or will they're working together prove too much of a distraction and cause them to go their separate ways? What do you get when Ms. Burrows pens a story encompassing a bunch of terrorists determined to cause lots of destruction, a team of good guys determined to keep everyone safe, and a fast-paced storyline with plenty of action? Well, for me this is a story that was captivating, thrilling and one that took me on an edge-of-my-seat adventure once the terrorists enter the story. The way this story started had me totally hooked by what was happening, as one of the secondary characters knows she's in trouble and it's palpable there's no way she's going to be able to get herself out of it. What will happen to her? Will someone come to her rescue? Will she be able to escape on her own? As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, everything this couple go through on their journey to happy ever after; and it's a story I loved every moment of, most especially once the action started and Jesse's team are in action and strategizing what they're going to do to get the upper hand against the terrorists. Will their plans come to fruition or will they have to work on the fly to combat any problems they face? Moreover, both the main characters made this story fascinating with their back stories and how the heroine challenges Jesse because of their chemistry and the fact that Lanie doesn't need a man to protect her, as she's strong, courageous and has plenty of handy skills to take on bad guys. While the hero, he's been through a lot in his life. He hasn't been the best father and I liked that he's doing his best to make up for the past. His relationship with his son is complicated, but there's no doubt that Jesse is determined to be there for his son and help his kid combat his troubles. Why is his son acting out? I also liked how protective Jesse is of the heroine, even though she doesn't need to be protected. Not with her ability to think and act quick, which is proven by what she does to help the team win the battle they face against the terrorists. I also liked how tight of a bond the hero shares with his teammates and that he would do anything to keep them safe, which is proven over and over again. Yet, what I liked most of all about the hero is that he gave the heroine a chance, even if he's not great at relationships. Then again, it's palpable he's always had feelings for Lanie for almost as long as he's known her. Overall, Ms. Burrows has delivered a story that kept me entertained from start to finish with its action; wonderful main characters and dialogue; and an ending that has me looking forward to what comes next for HORNET. Will the team be able to help one of the secondary characters that is now on the run? I would recommend Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows, if you enjoy romantic suspense, the friends to lovers trope, or books by authors Lynn Raye Harris, Kaylea Cross, Laura Griffin and April Hunt. |

**3.5 Stars** Jesse, the HORNET medic, is dealing with a lot, between his teenage son now living with him full-time and his PTSD. As he's adjusting to his new life, someone from his past, Lanie, a girl he knew as a teenager, friends only, is now a part of his team, and despite the pull to her, he tries to keep his distance emotionally. He has reasons though, aside from the ones mentioned above, and that's namely his three divorces, yes, three, and he's sworn off women. But it's Lanie, and their connection is intense, so fighting it becomes impossible. Lanie has always wanted Jesse, though he didn't seem to feel the same way, as evidenced by his three marriages, though they all ended in divorce. Lanie has moved on with her life, yet her feelings for Jesse never fully went away, and now that they're back in one another's lives...? Everything comes roaring back, and stronger than ever on Lanie's side, but this time, it appears as of Jesse returns it. However, as a training exercise and a vacation, become missions, Jesse and Lanie need to balance their professional lives and their growing personal relationship. Not to mention, Jesse and his son, Connor, need to iron out their differences, and Jesse needs to learn to cope with his PTSD. Can these two maintain both aspects of their lives as the same time? Or will one have to give? Will Jesse and Connor's relationship improve? What about Jesse's PTSD? Can Lanie trust that Jesse truly has feelings for her, and that they'll last? Is a HEA possible? One-click now and follow along as these two, friends for years, reconnect and discover their feelings for one another, at least on Jesse's side, have changed. On a purely personal side note, I find it a little unbelievable that Lanie's feelings for Jesse have endured all these years, and the other women in his life, including three now ex-wives. Also, that with being said, Jesse has the nerve to tell Lanie he only wanted her? He's got a really bad way of showing it. **I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.** |
I love the HORNET series, and I've been waiting for Jesse's story since he made an appearance in the Wilde series. In this book, Jesse is struggling. He is dealing with a sullen angry teenage son and discontent with his life direction. The last things he wants to deal with are suddenly being in command and having to be around Lanie, the woman he wants but doesn't want to commit to. A training mission causes him to have to face both of these things and puts him in a truly bad mood. Lanie wants Jesse, but not if he's the boss. No way will she be accused of sleeping her way to the top, especially since she doesn't quite feel like she is accepted by the team anyway. When a shocking terrorist attack finds Lanie and Jesse with only a skeleton HORNET crew and some trainees, they really don't have a choice but to work together until he'll can arrive. This was a really great story with a crazy amount of action, tons of sexual tension, and a great kick butt heroine. In other words, it was everything I expect from Tonya Borrows. I requested and received an ARC from Net Galley. |
*This ARC was received in exchange for an honest review* This was a good story, but I did find it a bit slow at first, Jessie and Lanie have known each other for years but when Lanie becomes a member of the Hornet Team, they both cannot be found fraternizing with each other. But when Jesse’s ex-wife dumps there 15 year old son on them, they decide to take him on one of their missions instead of leaving him with the parents. The mission was supposed to be an easy one at a Resort in Martinique and then they could relax after, but things don’t seem to be going as planned as the resort is taken hostage with all the Hornet team inside. The action starts and can Jesse and Lanie deny their attraction to each other. This was a good story in the Hornet Series by Tonya Burrows, can’t wait to read the next instalment. |
Jesse is the medic on the HORNET team and is always looking after everyone but himself. He is trying to connect with his estranged teenage son by taking him to his ranch, which is located beside the HORNET training centre. Lanie is Jesse's little sister's best friend and is also the newest and only female member of the HORNET team. The sparks have always flown between them, only now they are becoming stronger and they cannot resist each other. After a training session, the team goes on a holiday ... only to find the hotel they are staying at becomes the scene of a hostage situation. 2 female doctors that invented a breakthrough medication that will change lives .... and there are bad people who want it. Jesse and Lanie must work with half of the team to free the rest of their team and other hostages. This book is fast paced, suspenseful, romantic, steamy and sad ... yeah pretty much all the emotions are in this book. The next book (I presume) is also set up nicely at the end of this book. If you are looking for an action packed romance ... then this is the book to read! I received an ARC copy courtesy of Entangled Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. |

I Enjoyed Code Of Honor... as I have the previous books in the Hornet series . A Romantic suspense story by Tonya Burrows is always a story I enjoy, , the characters always keep me invested and her stories are always well written... Jessie & Laines story is no exception. I love how this author keeps her characters real, they have issues, they have flaws, they argue and bicker etc etc etc but they work. In my opinion it is the characters that the author has created that makes Hornet into a series I love . |

Jesse is the medic for the Hornet Team who is finding it harder to believe that he is helping others when all he sees is more death and destruction everywhere he turns. He is also trying to form a relationship with his son, since his ex dropped him off saying he was too difficult, although they haven’t spent much time together. Lanie was a Texas Ranger but she is tired of how the rules and regulations seem to help the guilty and not their victims. She is hoping that Hornet is a better match however becoming part of the team is proving more difficult than she imagined. Lanie and Jessie have been friends for years but their attraction to each other is something neither wants or is ready for especially as they are working together. When danger strikes will they and the team be able to work together to bring the crisis to a peaceful end with no casualties? This story had a chemistry between the two characters, a few twists and a suspenseful storyline. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. |
4 - 4 1/2 Stars! Code of Honor is the fourth book in the exciting HORNET series by Tonya Burrows. An action packed, romantic suspense that you won't want to miss! With the unique storyline, complex characters, hilarious banter, mystery, intense situations, danger, and intriguing twists, this emotional roller-coaster of a story will have you turning the pages faster to see what happens next. This was a fantastic book, and a great addition to this terrific series. I have to admit that I was confused for the first few chapters while trying to remember the characters from the previous books, and overall what HORNET is about. It's been 2+ years since the last book was released in this series, and without any type of recap, it was difficult to just jump right into the story. However, since this had been one of my favorite series, I knew that it would be worth it, and I was right. Jessie and Lanie have complicated past that neither are over as much as they thought they were. He's been fighting his demons, she's been fighting to find her place on the team, but neither are sure where that leaves them. After a routine training mission with the current trainees, they're all scheduled for a relaxing week at their bosses resort, until they become mixed up in a hostage situation. Some wounded, others are locked down with no way out, a few are held as hostages, but the rest are trying to figure out how to save them all with no weapons or backup. Can Jessie, Lanie, and the rest find a way to get Jessie's son, their teammates, the trainees, and the rest of the hostages out of this epic mess? Will Jessie be able to get over his fears and panic attacks in order to make sure that they all survive? Will the guys learn to trust that Lanie can handle herself, and accept her as a part of the team? Can Jessie and Lanie find a way to make it work between them, while both being on the team? If they can survive the attack on the resort, will they get the HEA they deserve? This is a great series by one of my favorite authors and I really enjoyed getting to read about all of the characters again. If you haven't read it, I would suggest that you start from the beginning. You'll get to read fantastic stories, learn about each couple, the dynamics of HORNET, and the team. You won't be disappointed. I highly recommend this book, series, and terrific author. I have voluntarily reviewed this arc provided by the publisher via NetGalley. |
Code of Honor Hornet Book 4 Tanya Burrows This book is action from first page to last. It’s exciting, romantic and very suspenseful. The Hornet Team is back! Jesse Warren, medic for the Hornet Team, is fighting a few personal battles. He recently had his fifteen year old son, Connor, sent to him because his ex wife couldn’t handle him. He’s abrasive, angry at the world, especially his father. The Hornet team is preparing for a training mission to check out prospective team members, and suggest taking Connor along for the experience. He’ll get to see what his dad does besides ranching. Jesse is discouraged because he has filled out multiple applications to medical schools, is qualified, but they all question his “not honorable” discharge from his military service. Elena Delcambre (Lanie) is Jesse’s neighbor and the only female member of the Hornet team. He’s been desperately fighting his attraction to her and after a tough training week the thought of her in a bikini is making him crazy. They’ll be headed to an exclusive resort in Martinique for R & R. But this training mission has difficulties of it’s own, starting with Jesse finding himself heading the mission. He’s flattered that they have confidence in him, but has a lot of self doubt. After the mission is completed without major incident, other than exhaustion, multiple insect bites and no one dies, Connor is pretty impressed with his dad. The beautiful island resort is just what they all need, but several members of the team have an underlying feeling of danger. A Dr. from a medical team is missing, some of the new recruits are acting strangely and one of them in particular has taken a severe dislike for Connor. But, Jessie and Lanie find themselves in each other’s arms after a mind bending kiss. They’re happily ever after is put on pause as sudden serious conflict erupts on the island. This was an exciting read with danger and romance thick in the air. This fourth in the series can be read as a stand alone, but knowing the history of the men in the Hornets Team make the story that much more enjoyable. I received this ARC from the publisher and Netgalley for review. Pat Fordyce |

Code of Honor by Tonya Burrows is a romance in an action-packed, thrilling roller coaster ride. All the guys and gal are on board along for this book having been part of a training mission early in the story. These are not perfect warriors but living and breathing heroes with regrets, relationship struggles, doubts and unrequited feelings that have lingered for years. The two main characters of this book, Jesse and Lanie have their own unique struggles that enter into their relationship. The crisis is unique in that it is not a planned mission but one that unexpectantly must be handled. Having few resources do not stop this group nor do they consider walking away. This is one of the strengths of this book, that the suspense and danger make it such a compelling read. I read wanting to see how the HORNETs would pull this off and save the day. The second chance romance was hot, with me hoping Jesse and Lanie would work through their issues. However, it is exciting plot of good guys trying to stop the bad guys that make this a great story. My only regret is that I started this series with Code of Honor. I think I would enjoy this one even more if I had read the books in order, but that is on me not the author. . |
**I received a copy of Code of Honor from Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review** Can Jesse slay his demons to save the woman he loves? Code of Honor is Tonya Borrows fourth book in her HORNET series. I have read two of the previous books so I was able to read this book without any issues. Jesse Warwick is still dealing with guilt from HORNET's last mission plus his ex-wife has dropped off his son at his ranch with no intention of coming back for him. Because they never have been together for any length of time to say that Connor and Jesse have a strained relationship would be a huge problem. But he's now a Field Commander and has been assigned his former childhood flame, Lanie. Can they keep their work situation separate from their growing attraction to each other? Lanie Delacambre has fought hard to prove herself as an equal to her bosses first at the Texas Rangers and now at HORNET. But will working with Jesse throw a wrench into proving to Gabe and Tucker she can work as hard as the guys? When they complete their training in Suriname and start their vacation at Tucker's resort turns into a hostage situation can everyone work together and save the guests and agents? When Connor discovers a traitor amongst the trainees will he be able to help Lanie, Jesse and the rest of the team before the Tangos kill everyone? There is a side story with Dr. Tiffany Peters and Claire Oliver have created a possible serum that could cure all viruses that have been previously resistant to any drugs. Their is a teaser at the end that sets up a story line for Claire and Jean-Luc will be in the next book. All in all I'd give the book a solid 4 star rating and look forward to reading Claire's story next. |
Burrows' HORNET series is one I like very much. So I was more than a little excited about getting Code of Honor from Netgalley. It was set up beautifully in Broken Honor which I loved. Code of Honor has a lot going for it. The intense push-pull between Jesse and and Lanie is especially well done. While I did think they were both overthinking it a lot, once they got going, it picked up nicely. The backdrop of Jesse's relationship with his son Connor was also especially interesting and emotional. I like Jesse. His character strength and flaw are one and the same: he cares too damn much. And this plays out over and over in the book. Thank you for showing and not telling. As the medic for the HORNET team, and potentially the new leader for ops, he is stuck right in the middle of his worst nightmare when a training mission gets hijacked into a real mission. Lanie is, well, Lanie. Her combination of brash and sensitive is makes her by turns sweet and fierce. Her overthinking things wasn't just about Jesse but also her place in HORNET as a woman. While my preference is for less of that agonizing in general, it held with her character - especially having seen how she operates in Broken Honor. I loved Lanie's character. I especially liked getting to see more of Ian, who has been a favorite of mine since I first saw him in Honor Reclaimed. I can't wait for his book because it's going to be *the* book of the series for me. I liked how the next book was telegraphed at the end. Will I continue this series? You bet! I just wish I felt better about this book. |
I would categorize this book as a suspense/thriller with a little romance. This is my first book in this series. It was a good read but would have been much better if I’d read them from the beginning and knew the stories of the other team members. This array of ex-military is not your typical group. They all have emotional baggage/PTSD as well as physical injuries they are dealing with. They respect each other’s abilities and trust each to have their back. This group of misfits, while not completely liking each other, and a bit dysfunctional, unexpectedly work well together. As I read this story, I kept finding myself wishing I had read them in order so I could understand them better. The crew unexpectedly finds themselves in the middle of an attempted kidnapping while on their recreational break after training maneuvers. They are unarmed and at a distinct disadvantage. Jesse is the newly appointed group leader and they are looking to him for direction. Lanie is the newest experienced recruit and someone from Jesse’s past. I struggled to find this pairing plausible. The romance seemed to be thrown in as a sideline. Jesse has been through 3 marriages and Lanie hasn’t found the right one over the last 20 years because they’ve unknowingly been pining for each other? Throw in the struggle Jesse is having with his teenage son, now living full time with him, and he’s got more than his hands full. This book is well written and flows well. The suspense is action packed. Because of the intense suspense, there really wasn’t time to fully develop Lanie and Jesse. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC for NetGalley and the publisher. |
Interesting. This story started out slow and I wasn’t sure I’d finish it but was glad I stuck with it. Emotional and intense. I voluntarily read an advanced copy. |
Hornet is back! Tonya Burrows delivers another pulse pounding, adrenaline filled roller coaster ride of suspense and romance in Code of Honor and believe me dear reader this is one ride you do not want to miss. Fair warning, take a deep breath before you start this book because it will be the last full breath you take till you finish. The action starts immediately and does not stop till you turn the last page drained (good drained) and so ready for the next Hornet book. NEVER think for an instant that this story will go where you expect it to, NEVER! That’s one of the things I loved about this book to be honest. Just when you thought there was a chance that you can catch your breath, BAM, something new happens and you are off an running again. I’m going to stay as spoiler free as possible as this is very much a story you need to experience. But what I will say is that be prepared to FEEL ALL THE FEELS. My emotions were dragged all over the place and I am so not sorry for it. I’m not kidding here, one minute you will be swooning, the next holding your breath, then laughing and even shedding a tear or ten over certain events. Jesse, the team’s medic and hero of this story just about broke my heart more than once while reading this book. This is a man with demons riding his tail and seeing him face his demons while fighting a losing battle over falling for Lanie and saving the day is something that is truly special. As for Lanie, I love her. Seriously, she is kick ass awesome and watching her come into her true potential in this book just made me love her almost as much as Jesse does. Seeing her fall for Jesse while kicking tango’s ass, priceless. For fans of the series, yes the other Hornet guys are there. Especially Jean-Luc who just about steals the show for a time. Man I can’t wait to see the crazy Cajun fall. Plus there are more than a couple surprises to keep long term readers happy. But my lips are sealed over what. You need to read it to find out. That said, while this is part of a series, it can totally be read as a stand-alone. Just be warned that you might become hooked and want to gobble up the other books in the series. Which I for one highly recommend. Well done Tonya Burrows on another unputdownable Hornet book, one that I’m still processing hours after I finished it, because so much happens that you can’t help but keep thinking of things. Well played, very well played. |
4.5☆ I really enjoyed reading Code of Honor and although it was slow to get going. Once the real action started I was soon hooked and at times this story had my heart pounding. As well as keeping me on the edge of my seat. Especially during the initial takeover of the hotel by the baddies, and again later when the team realise they have no choice but to try and rescue the hostages. With very little in the way of fire power and I really had to wonder if everyone was going to survive or whether Jesse and Lanie really would get their happy ever after. As for the revelations near the end and that epilogue. Well they certainly left me excited for the next book in this series. And I'd happily recommend Code of Honor to others. |

The HORNET team is back better than ever in this action packed fast paced story. I love these guys and gals, so excited to get Jesse's story. Since the last FUBAR of a mission, Medic Jesse has been struggling with his confidence. Add to that his angry teenage son is now living with him and oh yeah, his lust for Lanie Delcambre is out of control and his life feels totally out of control. Hopefully the training mission in Martinique will help clear his head. Then everything that can go wrong does and it's a matter of staying alive and keeping his team safe. This story is very well done and I think everyone will enjoy it. I definitely recommend. |
I was honored to be selected to receive a copy of this book from Netgalley for an honest opinion. It was a great military romance story with some crazy twist, and even crazier characters. I most definitely will be looking into getting more books from this author. Starting with the beginning of this series. |
