This was a fun book. Sexy. I appreciate the intelligence and depth of the story. Well done, Tonya!

So happy to be back in the with the HORNET team. It’s been a while. This was a very enjoyable fast paced action packed book. It was well written and the storyline was very good.
Jesse, who is the medic for HORNET, has been having some trouble lately. Between his teenage son Connor living with him on the ranch full time now and having a strained relationship with him and his PTSD, things have been tough mentally and emotionally lately. The only recent bright spot is Lanie, but he is trying hard not to do anything about that now that she has joined HORNET and is back in his life on a regular basis. He has known her since they were teenagers but they were never a couple. Jesse has been married 3 times and doesn’t really have a desire to start anything with any woman. In fact he swore off women. But this is Lanie an they have some serious chemistry and resisting her proves futile. The condom incident their first time together was pretty funny. Good thing for Jean-Luc.
The training exercise the team goes on in the jungle and then their vacation to Martinique is where the excitement really begins. Unbeknownst to them there is a mission there. Things move fast from there and it’s awesome to see the group in action doing what they do best. Things do get pretty intense and scary there for a while but this is the HORNET crew, so they’ve got this.
What will become of Jesse & Lanie? Is it possible to have a relationship under their working circumstances? Do either of them want more than just sex? Will Jesse and his son Connor build a better relationship? Will Jean-Luc break his curse?
Great set up in the epilogue for the next book featuring my favorite sexy Cajun, Jean-Luc!!

I received an ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

It has been while since I read the last HORNET book, so I had remember who each character was. The HORNET team is on down time hoping for a little rest and relaxation. But of course the bad guys show up and they are now fighting an unknown enemy to free the hostages.

Overall I enjoyed the book, but a few parts had me stopping, wondering and crying. Don’t want to really give too much away, but if you like the series this makes a great addition to the story line. You get to catch up with old characters and see what the future holds for them. Gabe is still my favorite!

Can’t wait for Jean-Luc and Claire’s story!

Code of Honor is a fantastic addition to the HORNET series. Jesse Warrick is many things, a cowboy, a father, and the HORNET teams medic. He has been through hell and come out the other side. Lanie Delcambre is a former Texas Ranger and the only woman on the HORNET team. Lanie and Jesse have a past and if they want to have a future they are going to have to get through this mission alive.
I really enjoy this series. If romantic suspense is your thing then I highly recommend this story.

The HORNET are at a Resort in Martinique for a training session, followed by a fun filled, relaxing time. What they were not ready for was a hostage situation with half the HORNET inside.
Jesse and Lanie have known each other since they were kids and are trying to fight the attraction towards each other. Just when they give in they are faced with a grim situation. They have to plan and save not just their teammates but also the innocent people captured inside the hotel.
The HORNETS are hot but troubled men and I loved the camaraderie, friendship and support between the them. Code of honor was an intense, edgy, dramatic, and action filled read that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Another action filled story from Tonya Burrows. This book is number four in the Hornet series and focuses on Jessie and Lanie. I really enjoyed the personalities of the two main characters in this story. Jessie is a single dad and is struggling to connect with his son and Lanie is trying to find her place in the team. They have known each other for a long time and both have feelings for each other. The story then takes you to where the action for the book comes in, while on a training exercise in a foreign country the team have to step up when some of their own along with Jessie's son are kidnapped. This book has plenty to inspire you to keep reading with some great twists and turns along the way.

Woo-hoo, I love the rebranded covers! Darker, edgier look to match the content! Jesse and Lanie's book has been much anticipated and the synopsis is not disappointing!

> > Looking Deeper < <
POV ~> Third-person.

Setting: French Caribbean island, Martinique.

Holy cow, the wait was WELL WORTH IT! As the team's medic, all Jesse wanted to do was heal and fix people but with every mission he took on, the darkness threatened to consume him further. The same darkness was what kept him pushing the people he loved most away, including his teen son Connor and newest team member (but long-time family friend), Lanie.
All Lanie's ever wanted to do was help people, but following in her dad's footsteps as a Texas Ranger was not as fulfilling when her hands were tied by protocols and red tape. Joining HORNET seemed like the logical step but now she felt as though she did not fit in and would never be seen as "one of the guys".
After taking the recruits on a training game, they converged on Tuc's island hotel for a weekend getaway. However, a relaxing day at the beach was taken off the itinerary by a powerful new enemy.
All the HORNET guys were present and accounted for in Code of Honor, even as they became separated and needed to form new commands on the fly. Viral research, hostages, some steamy chemistry, several happy updates, new love interest possibilities, and a devastating loss all kept this plot flowing through the ups and downs at an exciting pace.
I'm not a crier. I had to PUT THE BOOK DOWN. I could not see the words through the damn tears. Tonya Burrows pulled out all her tricks on this book and, man, it gutted me. Well done, Ms. Burrows, well done.
I had an inkling right away about "Paul" and "orange sneakers", but it did not detract from the story itself at all for me. I was pleased with how it all unfolded, even if someone had to take one for the team. The conclusion was solid and the epilogue provided a tantalizing peek into the next story to come....

I loved Jess and Lanie's story and am now biting my nails to read the Ragin' Cajun's book!!! While I whole-heartedly would recommend this book to Romantic Suspense fans, I'd highly encourage readers to start from the beginning of the series as the plots do follow a timeline and would benefit greatly from reading the books in order.

Fantastic story! Poor Jesse can't catch a break these days while now saddled with his sullen 15 year old who has a temper and Lanie, the only female member of the team who takes no crap from anyone and they've been friends and crushed on each other a long time.

You read the blurb so I'll pass that and can tell you first that saying too much will give too much away, however what starts basically as an exercise for the new team and a pleasant rendezvous for everyone on Martinique for a much needed vacation for all ends up being a serious hostage situation that the team walks in on without knowing. The overlapping plot is Tiffany and Claire both research Dr's who are working on a high priority secret project and Tiffany has just broke the code for the virus, ends up kidnapped while Claire is in South America garnering what she deems necessary. These two woman are now pawns between one very nasty man, a half a@@ group of pawns who are trying to grab them and party number three is the Hornet team. Hornet's never fail ladies, not in the field or steaming up the sheets.

What a great story, I love the suspense, action, the men of the team and the plot. Tonya Burrows does write a great story, every single time. I love them. Read the book!! I have been waiting for this one and the wait was well worth it!!

First off, I was grabbed from the first chapter of the book and was immersed in the story until the end. Tonya Burrow’s mature and skilled writing style, how she balances action, danger and suspense with the emotions, struggles and fear her characters go through is just amazing.
I loved the hero, Jesse Warrick, a man who doesn’t do flings and who is “a marriage kind of guy”. His dilemmas and goals as a medic were well handled and credible. His long time relationship with Lanie, the heroine, is one of my favorite tropes. And it was delightful to watch, in the end, the process of choosing the field commander – an indirect feminist statement I appreciated.
Since we have access to his (and others) character point of view, we are really in tune with his thoughts and feelings, and that was also very well done and credible.
But what I liked more about Jesse was his relationship with his 16-year-old son, Connor, and that’s what made him so attractive and yummy (of course he’s handsome, seen by the bad guys he’s “a big blond guy” who looks “like a beach bum”). The way he cares for Connor, his sense of guilt for the things he failed, his overwhelming love for the sullen teenager were just endearing. And I loved to have Connor’s point of view too, so sweet and well done!
I also loved all the attention given to Gabe Bristol, I guess the narrator has a soft spot for him, as I do.
The camaraderie and friendship between the HORNET people, the vivid dialogue and even the glimpses we have into the bad guys’ minds – making them a little more human – make this book a compelling read with lots of suspense and some fun moments.
I look forward for the next installment – Jean-Luc/Claire – and I’m very curious about Ian.

Great opening line.

He's been married three times? Yikes.

Are you stupid, Schumacher? That's your boss's kid!

Ha, Mara plays dirty!

That's a son-of-a-gun. Who sells out their own fiance?

I like Connor's cheek, even if he should be nicer to his dad.

Schumacher is definitely working for the bad guys.

That got real serious, real fast. Jean-Luc is one lean, mean fighting machine.

Jesse is the girl in this relationship.

It's a self-fulfuling prophecy, honey. You think they're being sexist and avoiding you, but you're the one avoiding them.

Lanie is Connor's true mother.

Ruh-roh. Double-crossing bad guys are never good.

That was a beautiful send-off.

Survivor's guilt can't be easy, but like the good doctor said, no one could have done better.

Aww. Men with a baby are so cute.

Well, he wasted no time getting her locked in.

The beginning was a little confusing and slow, but then Ms. Burrows made me cry. Loved Jesse and Laine and all the rest of the yummy Hornet boys.

Now what kind of trouble is he going to get himself into...

I love all books by this author they are never a disappointment, and this book is no different. It is really hard to just talk about two or three main characters in this book because there are several that are important to this story, but Jesse and Lanie are my favorites. Their relationship has been one that has been around and changed over the years, where one is always fighting the involvement or the connection between them. Now working together very closely their connection is hard to fight. should they keep on fighting it and will the demons from the past come back and interfere in happiness? Than you for allowing me to read this book and write a honest review.

I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review. I like a good romantic suspense, and this had all the elements. The members of the HORNET team are involved in training exercises on the island of Martinique. After their training, they are supposed to have a weekend of relaxation, however a rival military contractor company has other plans when they take a virologist hostage. Jesse Warrick is the hero in this book, he's a Wyoming born and bred Medic who's battled some PTSD. He's also recently gotten custody of his 15 year old son after the ex decided she couldn't handle the son any longer. There's a lot of tension between those two for the usual reasons. Lanie Delcambre has known Jesse since they were kids. At one time they thought they may be a couple, however that just didn't work out, Y'all know how teenage love is... Now she's part of the Hornet team, and somewhat struggling with being the only female on the team, and her feelings for Jesse. He's struggling with his feelings for her as well, worried that he'll let her down. This is the 4th book in the series, but a stand-alone novel. I will be looking into the previous 3 and the 5th one as well.

Tonya Burrows’s long-running HORNET series has so far, been a breath of fresh air. ‘Code of Honor’ is Jesse/Lanie’s story and as newly-minted team leader, Jesse’s off to a bad start, burdened by his self-doubts, his desire for a childhood friend and a son who doesn’t give him any time of day. A hostage situation at the end of their training however, exacerbates this, throwing the group as well as his teetering confidence into chaos.

Unlike the other paramilitary or security companies formed by a tight group of ex-military buddies, Burrows’s HORNET men are openly broken, psychopathically quirky and badly damaged—physically and mentally—that it’s a wonder they can ever be functioning as individuals let alone as a cohesive security group. But they stumble along, badly might I add, flying by the seat of their pants from a disaster to another while trying to hold themselves together, not dissimilar to a boy-band put together by an executive producer and told to sing/dance in harmony in front of squealing fangirls from the onset.

This bunch of misfits and their antics however, keep me coming back to this series, because it’s entertaining (with some bit of schadenfreude on my part thrown in) to see how they get themselves into deep water (yet again) and then fight their way out of it with nary a thing but their wits and pocket knives.

For most part, I liked the action and the suspense, and the introduction of a kickass former Texas Ranger and Jesse’s blast from the past brought a different dynamic to the misfits of HORNET. Yet while the action flowed, along with an overarching plot that reeled me in, the romance bit gave me pause, because it wasn’t something I could envision at all, or at least, found difficult to buy into.

Had Lanie really never stopped loving Jesse from afar, even though Jesse had moved on so thoroughly that he’d married 3 women after having feeling something for her as a teenager, then only confessing at the end that he’d only wanted her? That it had taken over a decade to make this happen seemed like an unfair deal for Lanie, who didn’t seem to question Jesse’s faux-pas, his personal angst, his inability to see past his own issues and his circling around the block for nearly 20 years before coming back to her.

Admittedly, the second-chance romance is a trope that’s problematic for me. A character tends to struggle more than the other with unrequited feelings and resentment, and sometimes even the admission of having ‘loved’ a person for so long yet doing the opposite thing about it (in Jesse’s case at least) makes it more unforgivable. The story’s focus on suspense meant that Lanie/Jesse’s romance was too easily squared away with love declarations and a simple apology to Lanie about having broke her heart all those years ago seemed to resolve it all for them, even when seen in the light of how easily they could lose their lives in the most unexpected of ways. With an epilogue that quickly shifted the focus away from them and onto Jean-Luc’s half-cocked effort to save a woman he barely knew, I couldn’t help but feel disappointed in how Jesse/Lanie was handled as a pairing.

It isn’t to say that the other aspects of romantic suspense weren’t handled well, because those parts of ‘Code of Honor’ were engaging with some emotional twists and turns that secondary characters inadvertently revealed about themselves when they’re thrust into critical situations. So while I’m mixed about this book, I’m hanging onto the HORNET series for that alone, then crossing my fingers for a romance that I can actually get fully invested in.

Jesse needs to learn to read between the lines, “hold up a damn minute.” He caught her arm. “What the devil did I do?” She stared at him in utter disbelief. Was he really that clueless?" Jesse and Lanie sure hasve some hot chemistry going on, "She smiled and tangled her fingers into his hair. They’d knocked his Stetson off. “Helluva long night,” she murmured." I liked this book, I fell in love with Jesse.

It had been a while since I have read the other books in this series, and I have to admit I had sorta forgotten what it was about... so I had a quick re-read before cracking on with the latest - and man am I glad that I did. I wouldn't say you can't read this as a standalone - but the characters and their development make much more sense if you read the other books first.

This book seems to have it all: a ranch in Wyoming, a hot cowboy, an ex-Texas Ranger, a snotty teenager, a training mission in an exotic local, a beach front luxury hotel and a hostage situation with our heroes with no weapons, a snake in the midst and no support! This book is jam-packed and very fast paced and makes me want to see who is up next (please be Ian and Tank, please be Ian and Tank!)
