Forget me not by Kierney Scott.
Detective Jess Bishop book 1.
Murky water sloshed through the gaps in the jetty’s algae-covered planks. Electricity ran down her spine. The victim’s torso was missing circles of flesh. Jess had seen marks like this before a long time ago. But that killer was already dead, wasn’t he?
When the lifeless body of a young woman is found washed up in the blisteringly hot back waters of a small town, Detective Jess Bishop knows for certain this isn’t the murderer’s first kill.
Two other bodies have been found, both bearing the same marks. Marks that strike fear into Jess’s heart. They are identical to those from a case she’s spent her entire career trying to forget.
As Jess and her team try to link the victims, another body is discovered, and they fear the serial killer is taunting them. They know it’s only a matter of time before he kills again.
A very good read with good characters. I'm looking forward to the next book. 4*.

Great story, thrilling plot that I could not put down. Well worth a read, and would recommend to others.

Bookouture and NetGalley provided me with an Advanced Reader's Copy of Forget Me Not. The choice to review this book was my own.

When the body of a young woman is found with markings similar to two previous victims, Detective Jess Bishop is convinced that there is a connection to a case that she has spent her career trying to forget. After the killer strikes again, will Jess takes chances with her life?

I am surprised at the number of favorable reviews, as I had a different reaction to the novel as a whole. Jess is neurotic, anxious, and thoroughly unbelievable as an FBI agent. Her lack of confidence in her own abilities does not ring true, as Jess is supposed to be a strong professional. The pacing of the book was sluggish and the plot was predictable. Forget Me Not was, unfortunately, entirely forgettable. For these reasons, I would not recommend this novel to other readers.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to a read a complimentary copy of this book in return for a review based upon my honest opinion.

What a great first book to what I hope is a long running series! I love the main character, Jess Bishop! This book hooked me right fro the start and continued to keep me on the edge of my seat until the shocking ending. Jess and her team of FBI Agents are on the hunt for a serial killer, a killer whose M.O. match a case that has haunted Jess for as long as she can remember; I couldn't read this book fast enough, I stayed up well past when I should have been sleeping to finish it; my bleariness at work the day was well worth it though, great book. Fast pasted, edge of seat action, with a thrilling conclusion. Will definitely be reading the rest of this series.

Another serial killer Detective series? Count me in! I love jumping on a new series at the very start. Here we meet FBI Special Agent Jess Bishop, cols as ice, closed off and completely dysfunctional. Try as she might to be completely unlikeable I couldn’t help myself but like her and I’m sure as this series unfolds much light will be thrown on her past to explain why she is the way she is.
When a woman’s torso washes up in a bayou and the MO matches other murders they fear they are dealing with a murderer that keeps the heads as trophies.
This book dragged on a little at times but took off in a gallop by the mid way mark. I thoroughly enjoyed it and cannot wait for the next book in the series

Whoa. This was good. I actually started it three times before it grabbed me, but I'm glad I started it that last time. Not sure what it was that kept me from being grabbed at the beginning. I will absolutely be reading the next book.

Irritating characters. Great plot. Great story with a fabulous mystery.

The book warms up as you go, like building a fire before it sparks and the flames start to rise.

It’s written really well.
Jessica who is the Detective is as hard as nails.
I could have slapped her many a time until I got to know what’s made her this way. I then mellowed a bit then. But only just.

The heat is on to find the killer and this Detective has her blinkers on to find them, no question, no distractions.

It’s a gruesome case.

I must say, although there’s a book 2 I didn’t particularly like the ending.

Overall

It’s a good story.
Good plot.
It’s graphic so beware if you have a weak stomach.

But sometimes unbelievable.

Quick review: I love book about serial killers, I love books with female detectives/agents. But I've read so many amazing books with one or the other (or both) this year that this one was just ok for me. If you're looking for a new series that centers around a female police/FBI/etc protagonist, then I'd suggest this. Jess Bishop can hold her own and has a good character voice.

I read the first 50ish pages of this while waiting in a line and then kind of forgot about it for a little bit before picking it up again and finishing the rest in one night. It definitely held my interest and was SO.MESSED.UP. the way that serial killer books should be. I liked Jess Bishop and her background was pretty cool (her childhood though- whoa).
Would highly recommend if you like police procedural type novels - this one was really good with a few twists in there! I will for sure check out the rest of this series at some point.

This is the first book in the Detective Jess Bishop series, and wow, I was so happy to see that there was a book two as well.
In this book we meet Jess, she has a lot of demons, coming from childhood that she hasn't really dealt with. Her relationship with her colleague and friend, Jamison made me wish they would just hook up and get it done with! The book was really well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I couldn't wait to finish it!! Well done and highly recommended!!!

Wow. I loved this book. It's been a while since I've read a new crime fiction novel, especially one that hooked me right from the start the way this one did. Jess instantly had me intrigued and the case itself did as well.

I really wanted to find out about Jess's past and why she thought this case was reminding her of that past and that there might more than coincidence with the similarities she was seeing.

I enjoyed getting to know her and Jamison particularly, and also the other Agents around her. I just really liked everything about this book.

A new must read crime fiction author for me here.

Keen to read book 2!

Another new author for me. I decided to buy this book after Net Galley approved me for Book number two, Cross My Heart.

As the body count rises, and the hunt goes cold, Jess knows she has to confront her past in order to catch the killer, even if that means making herself the bait…

A great find, a great author, a plot that to me was strong in it's characters more than anything else, tension, pace, twists, strong, gripping and gruesome.

Jess in a strong character, a lot like marmite, you will like her or you will hate her, I did enjoy her down to earth, honest FBI agent fighting to find the truth, with a past that she wants to hide, but haunts her.

I guessed correctly on the villain of this story, but it was paced and filled with red herrings, and I was never fully sure.

Forget Me Note is a gripping and heart-stopping thriller full of twists and perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Karin Slaughter, Robert Bryndza , Lisa Gardner, Sharon Bolton, Angela Marsons and Linda Castillo.

Straight on to book two tonight !

Four clear stars. (less)

What an excellent, thrilling story. Read in 24hrs, literally could not put this down. The most surprising aspect of the book was that it was set in America, for some reason I was not expecting that (really should read synopsis's more often). Great characters and Jess Bishop is a heroine you can really root for. I loved this book so much that I have immediately bought the next in the series and will be starting it very soon

I had a hard time getting into Jess’ story. She is a flawed character which is fine by me but she has so many issues and she does eye-rolling worthy stuff that it’s so hard to like her. After learning about her past, though, I came to warm into her and understand her character if only for a bit. I wished her background was laid out immediately in the beginning, though. Instead, I have to plough through pages after pages of her going on about her feelings toward Jamison. At some point, it’s even dragging, as it focuses so much more on Jess and her issues than the crime. Despite that, I still enjoyed the crime aspect and the mystery that had me guessing until the end and also the suspense with unexpected twists and turns made up for the slow parts. It also helps that the writing is engaging. Overall, I’d still consider it as a solid, a little dark and gruesome, mystery crime novel.

It took me a long time to read this book. I believe my confusion was based on the fact that the title of the book changed. My apologies to net galley for taking so long. Once I started the book I read it pretty quickly. It was a very interesting read and I wanted to know what happened. That's the main reason that I gave it four stars. There were definitely
so things that frustrated me in the book. One was Jess and how odd she was towards the men in her life .I understand that she had an interesting relationship with her father that gave her trust issues however, the way she saw sex was bothersome. I also didn't love the ending. I felt like there were so many unanswered questions. The main question I had was about Jamison. I would read the follow up book in hopes of getting my answers. I also liked the way the writer wrote and would like to hear more from Scott. I would recommend this book to a friend.

A great start to a new series! This follows Special Agent Jessica Bishop. She's a tough agent with a past that alluded to something awful throughout the novel. You get the full story as the pages turn. She's a complex character and hard to like but she tries to do what's right for the victims. This particular serial killer she's after is very sadistic! And might be closer to her than what she knows. I enjoyed this story. It was fast paced, characters that are flawed, and the plot kept me turning the pages. Can't wait for the next book.

Women are being murdered and their bodies found decapitated and with pieces of skin excised. Agent Jess Bishop if the FBI is investigating. She is surprised at one dump site when her former partner Jamison Briggs returns after being undercover. As the investigation continues Jess can’t help finding connections to her past - she is still struggling to deal with them and only a handful of people know the full story. A fast-paced and enjoyable read from start to finish - look forward to reading the next one.

3.5 Stars

FBI Special Agent Jessica Bishop has a secret past that most people don't know. While investigating female bodies found dismembered and headless, the similarities between them and her past are troubling, to say the least.

It's been many years and she still has panic attacks thinking about the pain and humiliation she suffered as a child. The nightmares are coming nightly. Her best friend and partner, Jamison, had more or less deserted her. He left some time ago to work undercover ... but now he's back and has secrets of his own.

As more women disappear and bodies are later found, Jess and Jamison are in a race to find the killer before anyone else disappears. But are the personal issues between the two of them blinding Jess to the danger which is much closer than she thinks?

I normally like flawed characters, but Jess seems to go a step beyond. I can't imagine that the FBI or any law enforcement would not require some therapy for Jess ... especially as she carries a gun and comes across as unstable at times. Jamison is also not without a secretive past flaws of his own. I liked Chan, Jess' partner while Jamison was gone. He's not the nicest person around, but he comes across as more credible than the others.

The ending was well done and came as an explosive surprise. I look forward to reading the next book featuring Jessica ....CROSS YOUR HEART.

Many thanks to the author / Bookouture / Netgalley for the digital copy of this Romantic Suspense. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
