This is exactly the type of read I always wanted from modern books with a princess in them (be she born or made royal)! I know Flick isn't royal, and her mum doesn't give her free reign of the perks of being in a hotel, but it felt like Flick took me into the world of royalty and famous people who spend time in hotels, what really goes on behind closed doors (note, spying is not a good occupation if it's not your official job and will get you into trouble). I got to know every part of the hotel with the at first reluctant Flick, who was far removed from being down to earth and kind to people.

She has Atttiude with a capital A, and yes she gets in trouble for it, but her confidence is a little admirable. Trouble follows her around, especially when she gets to the hotel kitchen and near her much loved hiding space, yet because she ends up becoming a real friend to Skylar, she is let off the hook for a few issues because it's important to keep guests happy. She simply gets punished later, and her punishments are amusing to read. I liked the strange teen relationship she has with her mum, I felt sorry for her long suffering childhood friend because Flick can be dismissive to him until she needs something and he has the solution. Learning about Skylar's insane life was interesting, famous singers have many issues the public have no clue about, but there are a few perks too. Flick learns fame isn't everything, and sometimes keeping quiet about a secret is more satisfying than being the centre of attention and revealing the secret.

I know this isn't out until next year but please put it to the top of your reading list - you won't regret it! There is a sequel which I'm eager to read (also not out yet, obviously)

I'd heard a lot about this book and looking for a light-hearted, fun read I decided to give it a go.  I am so glad I did.  Flick and her gorgeous dachshund Fritz are a brilliant duo to lead this brilliant teen read.  Living in a prestigious hotel, making friends with celebrities and You-Tube stars, who wouldn't want to live that life?! Watching Flick navigate the regular pitfalls of teenage life with all the extra drama that comes with her life made for a very fun read - I especially enjoyed her being locked in the fridge. I will definitely be recommending this book to my pupils and eagerly await Flick and Fritz's next adventure.

Living in Hotel Royale, a hotel for the rich and privileged, alongside her mum the owner and Fritz, her dachshund, fourteen year old heiress, Flick Royale.

We meet her first when she learns she can't vlog due to her mum giving her selfie stick to Prince Gustav to borrow for a while which promptly ensues her getting into all manner of trouble trying to retrieve it back to use. Her friends Grace and Ella are super excited to soon learn that Skylar Chase a favourite singer of theirs will be staying at the hotel. Then Skylar starts hanging out with Flick even introducing her to Ethan Duke, a high profile vlogger who asks her to the Hotel Royale Christmas Ball, expect chaos and laughs aplenty ahead!

Alike to The Million Dollar Mates series by Cathy Hopkins, Katy brings more humorous tales our way.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

Flick's family own one of the most prestigious hotels in London, though Flick is more interested in celebrities and celebrity clients than the hotel itself.

Flick felt realistic as a character; surrounded by beautiful history and significance but not seeing this at first. In fact, at first she is unknowingly jeopardising some of this, e.g. the selfie stick saga. What I loved in the book was how as it developed, she began to see and understand more about the hotel and how much work was involved in keeping its reputation. I also loved her friendship with Olly and how much she grew as the book progressed.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book; it was fun, funny and sweet. Birchall writes with genuine humour and her characters felt genuine. This book also has a fair bit of series potential and I would be interested to see if it continues and what Flick gets up to next. In fact, this book reminded me of series like the Princess Diaries or Holly Smale's Geek Girl and I think fans of either series would find a lot to enjoy in this book.

Katy Birchall's books are always a load of fun. She shows realistic teenagers getting into high jinks and escapades and generally getting into trouble. She doesn't shy away from the personality traits that teenagers often show, simply by being young. Flick is very self-centred and isn't very aware of people around her, something that we see change throughout the course of the book.

I loved the general atmosphere of the hotel. I loved the family feel with the workers and the two families at the centre of the book. I love the idea in general of living in a hotel and having your family run it. I don't think that's something I could ever get tired of, because there's so much possibility for interesting characters and scenery.

And Fritz was wonderful. Dogs in books usually are, but the way he had his own little fan club and all his outfits, it added a bit of adorable background to the book that I loved.

I'm hoping this becomes a series.

In retrospect this book isn't quite for me - it's aimed at the tween audience who are big fans of Zoella and the Dolan Twins and other people who I don't really understand, whereas I tend to read books for older teens and young adults. Still, it's a fluffy, entertaining read, though it's definitely not anything particularly groundbreaking. But will be good for the 10-12 age range who are branching out in their reading a little bit.

3.5 STARS

First of all, although I am a big fan of the YA genre, I should point out that I am not the target audience for this book. However, I wanted to read it after reading something that said this was for fans of the Girl Online and Geek Girl series’ (which are two YA series that I love).

At first, Flick’s attitude and general demeanour really grated on me, but I found myself warming to her once I got into the story. This book has some really lovely characters - I particularly liked Cal and Grace. Personally, I don’t think this is quite up there with Geek Girl or Girl Online, but it was an enjoyable read and a solid start to a new series. While I won’t be rushing to buy book 2 in the series on the day of release, I can see myself reading it at some stage.

All in all, I will be recommending this to friends with children the right age for this series, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to adult fans of the genre.

This is a sweet, fluffy novel for tweens. I like Flick, even if she does occasionally make silly decisions; she's smart and kind and she wants to help other people, all very admirable traits. I was very happy with how the romance sub plot played out ... I won't mention it here for spoilers! But I thought it was a great way to handle it, leaving the door open for more novels without leaving it on a cliffhanger.
I wish I could visit the hotel, as it sounds amazing, and I'd love to try some of Chef's meals. I loved watching Flick get gradually more and more involved in how things run and realising how much work it really took.
Thank you for the chance to read this book. I'll be looking out for more in the series.

I simply loved 'Secrets of a Teenage Heiress! The wit as well as the main character (Felicity aka Flick) reminded me of Louise Rennison's books. I loved hilarious exchanges between the characters and of course there are some swoon worthy guys in the novel as well: Cal (Flick's childhood best friend who is secretly in love with her - I can tell!), Olly (Flick's best friend's brother who has hots for Flick as well). I dare say it's the first book in the series because I can tell there's a lot to happen next! Gosh, I can't wait! The book is so gripping that I read it at one go! If we talk about the main plot: Flick is a daughter of the owner of a prestigious hotel in London - Hotel Royale and even tough all people around are amazed by the magnificence of the place and its history Flick seems to be oblivious to it til Cal makes her realise some things. I love the chemistry between those two characters, you can feel that they need each other in order to feel their own selves. Not to give any more spoilers - perfect for fans of Louise Rennison and Holly Smale. Enjoy!
