I don't often read horror these days, but this one looked like it might be good. It's a haunted house story of sorts. Four famous horror authors agreed to an interview, which turns out to be a sort of publicity stunt, taking placing a supposedly haunted house. Again, it was not the type of book I would usually read, so maybe I am not the best judge, but I thought it was just okay. It wasn't really very scary, maybe a little unsettling at times. The story itself, though, didn't really grab me. I felt like a few things were a little predictable while others were unexpected, but overall it was a little bland. 2.5 stars rounded down to 2.

Great read. This scary book is right on time for Halloween. It does not disappoint. Loads of action. Held my attention right up until the last page. Enjoyed it.

Perfect book for a Halloween Read

This is a really good horror, the physiological kind and it works brilliantly.

4 well-known authors get invited to spend the night in a haunted house for an interview, but it is an interview they wish they had turned down!

It is a bit of a slow burner, but i think that adds to the story and builds up the suspense and adds depth which sucks you in. The descriptions of the house on Kill Creek allow you to see the house and see how it works its way into the very different horror writers.

The house is defiantly the star of the story but the different characters are all memorable for their own reasons, even if not all them are instantly likeable.

As well as the authors there is the young rich internet mogul whose idea it was to bring these authors together in the house and broadcast it live on the internet on Halloween.

The house has been waiting for them and has its own agenda, whilst at first the house appears to be a bit of a let down on the haunted stakes, little do they know that even though the house let them all leave it will call them all back to finish off what was started on Halloween night.

It’s so hard to find a good horror novel which is a shame and i am always on the lookout for a truly frightening tale and all though this book didn’t leave me wanting to sleep with the light on it is a really good horror story. The creepiness and atmospheric atmosphere make this book and it is certainly a book that will stay with you long after finishing the book.

Really good book, i would defiantly recommend this to and horror fans 🙂

This was really hard to figure out a star rating. I was excited to begin this. I havent read horror in ages so I was looking forward to doing so. The prequel! That was an easy 4 stars, or 4.5. I loved it! It made me even more excited to keep going. And for the first 50% of the book, I was really interested, turning page after page after page. But, quite fast, after the first 50%, it went downhill. I still kept reading, thinking it would pick up, but no. It actually got worse. I found I was really bored with what had happened once they left the house. It reminded me of the movie, '1408'. And while I really liked that movie, while reading this book, I was wanting a more, much more, haunted house theme.

I cant not mention the way the story is written. There are a few different narrators throughout this but, they just sometimes, suddenly change from one to the other with no warning. It was different and im not sure how I felt about that. It didnt always happen. Most of the time, it was a new chapter or paragraph that brought along a different narrator than the one we had just had. But still, I needed to add that.

Id finally made it to the end rather disappointed. But in saying that, I can not discount or make this take away the fact that the beginning was still very good and I am still glad I got the opportunity to read it. Would I recommend it though? Umm, well if you are wanting a full haunted house story where the main focus is on the house and being at the house, then no. But if your wanting a creepy, all kind of horror then yeah I guess it would be worth giving it a go, though, the 'horror' isnt really scary. Im not saying that this was a bad book, its just not what I was wanting it to be.

You know when a book is just... fine? And not like 'oh my god that attractive person is so fine', but like 'eh, you know, it was fine.' Picture me shrugging right now. There is nothing wrong with this book – the prose is good, the characters are consistent (if a little one-note), the plot trips along nicely. But everything that you think is going to happen? It's going to happen. It's clear that the author is a horror fan, and there are plenty of shout-outs to other horror writers, but overall it feels like a competent but unimaginative Stephen King homage. Which is maybe the intention? I usually like my horror to be weirder, more imaginative and more surprising, but this did keep me entertained for a few evenings. It's just... fine.

The world's most famous horror writers come together for an interview. The setting is an old house, allegedly haunted. It takes a while to get the story moving - there is plenty of character development and we really get to know and be invested in the group before things start going bump in the night. The plot kept blowing my expectations out of the water. The horror slowly creeps up on you - as it does on the characters. At first, the house is just a house. But wait till you see the horrors that are waiting. Personal demons, actual demons... everything scary. But in my opinion Scott Thomas' biggest accomplishment is getting the writers right. They have all chosen horror as their genre, but their styles are widely different. What you can read about them, their books and their obsessions makes them seem real (I actually Googled A Thinly Cast Shadow thinking that if it was an actual novel, I wanted it on my TBR list). Writing a good novel must be very hard. Writing the oeuvre of four great authors is astounding. A perfect read for Halloween.

Kill Creek is a ghost story about 4 celebrity horror authors spending the night in a haunted house. A little twist on the haunted house genre. I thought the author did a wonderful job of creating such different, believable characters and a tense, edge of your seat story. I really enjoyed reading this book and i will look forward to reading from this author again.

This novel will make you question if a house can truly be evil or if our internal fears simply manifest our darkest desires. I don't really know how to describe this novel because it’s such a fresh take on horror and I absolutely loved every minute of it. It's a combination of creepy classic horror with a slice of supernatural which slowly transforms into a psychological thriller and finally bleeds into something darker. Would I recommend you read this...absolutely!!!

Engaging, mysterious, fast -paced story about 4 horror writers who spend Halloween in a haunted house. Very quick, entertaining read!
