Great story...even though Gabe is a bit of an @sshat for the first half of the book. He did redeem himself as the story continued. Loved India!!! Fast moving, easy to read, really easy to get caught up in. I will be reading more of Montgomery's work.

I absolutely enjoyed reading this novel! Initially, I could not see the appeal in Gabriel, he was so brash and rude to an almost unforgiving extent but as the novel progressed and you saw how his attitude toward India changed and he became so loving and caring I fell for him like India did. Their coming together was so beautiful and this book is definitely worth a read!

India didn’t have a normal childhood, and the trauma she experienced has made relationships impossible. Only one man has been able to make her feel like she has a chance to have a normal romantic experience, but people get in the way and she stands him up, meeting him years later. He thinks she is a gold digger but soon realizes how wrong he is. He really does act like a beast at first.
I like how understanding Gabriel was. He came off pushy at the beginning and then he apologized for trying to comprise her honor since she was “engaged.” Then after she told him the truth about her past her did what he had to to protect her.

This novel was a good read. I liked how the author incorporated pain and suffering in this novel and the struggles that character faced to overcome them. These events happen in life and they are not always reported or make people aware of them. King Gabriel de la Croix has been ruling his country for some time. He met a violet-eyed woman at a masked ball to whom he would have thrown away his engagement for. However, she disappeared and years later Gabe discovers it is India Hamilton, the woman who runs his deceased sister's charity. He believes her to be a gold-digger and not worthy to run his sister's charity organization. India does not understand why Gabe is so rude to her, until he tells her why. He believes she is lying and checks into her background. India is a strong woman, but has a scarred past, which impacts her in many ways. She is engaged to be married, but it is not for love. Gabe tries to seduce her, but India won't allow it. When Gabe blackmails India into going with him to Africa, it brings back unwanted memories that India has yet to overcome. Gabe realizes he was wrong about India and completely misjudged her, but he has sworn never to marry again. When India's past catches up with her, Gabe is forced to make decisions that not affect himself and India, but his country as well. India and Gabe's love for each other grows, but will the events of the past affect them from having the future they both desire?
