The Amish Cooking Class Cookbook was a fun, whimsical read. To start out I want to say the digital copy format of this book almost ruined the experience for me. It was very hard to read, some pages had only a few lines of text with a large page graphic and pictures for recipes did not line up with the recipe itself. I almost gave up as it ended up being more work than I wanted to deal with. That being said the print book would be amazing! The recipe pictures were gorgeous and inspiring. My favorite parts of the book were the Advice from Fellow Cooks section and the Basic Recipes. The Advice from Fellow Cooks section I can see me referencing a lot, I even took a couple notes and put them inside my cabinets for reference. They have great time saving tips. The Basic Recipes section is a basic How-to. There are great tips on boiling eggs, pasta and how to make bone broth! I am very excited about that one.
The Dinner Rolls recipe is out of this world. If you make these you will definitely impress. Be prepared to have these requested for every gathering. A couple more of my favorites are Baked Oatmeal, French Toast Casserole, Pie Crust and the Carmels. Those caramels are going to be a hit at our next Christmas gathering. I absolutely loved the Snickerdoodles and believe me the shortening makes a difference.
Most of these recipes are a little too ambitious for me. I am a very well rounded cook/baker, but at the same time I am a busy mom and wife who works full time. Most of these recipes will have to be tried on a weekend when I can dedicate a couple hours to playing with a recipe.
This book hit a couple points that I look for in good cookbook. Good recipes, good relatability and storytelling. But for me this book was hard to read, I had to work and scan through the pages. It also did not have enough recipes that I would make on the regular. The recipes will end up being more for special occasions when I have time (or think I do). The highlight of this book for me was the Advice from Fellow Cooks. Overall a good cookbook generally speaking, but more misses than hits for me.
I was provided an extended preview of the cookbook by NetGalley for purposes of a review. The entire manuscript was not included.

Great recipes that are don’t require fancy ingredients or techniques. Home cooking. Easy to manage. Good for families and beginning cooks.

overall, a good book with a couple of new and interesting recipes. Like other cookbooks, there are a few recipes that are too hard to try, but most were pretty simple and seemed easy enough.

Recommended for people who love cooking and wouldn't mind reading the old recipes with some new twists.

When I first read Wanda E. Brunstetter I never in a million years would have imagined myself having my faith questioned and not in a bad way it has made me believe more then ever in my path he has blessed me with. I was so excited to see she came out with a cook book. The recipes I tried made me feel more alive and I thanked god after each one I made. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!

Wow, what a beautiful cookbook this is! Bestselling author, Wanda Brunstetter, has compiled the recipes she used in her Amish Cooking Class series of three books about a young Amish woman who held cooking classes. She also included recipes from other Amish cooks and the book has 250 recipes. The book itself is spiral bound and full of full-color pictures of foods and everyday life of the Amish. Just lovely to skim through (and drool over!). The book begins with an overview of each of the three books in the series, The Seekers, The Blessing, and The Celebration, and the characters in each. Another section gives very basic tips on cooking and food prep. Short articles, eleven of them, on Amish kitchens, mornings, sweets and canning are interspersed throughout the recipe sections. Recipe sections include the typical parts of a cookbook, breads, beverages, breakfast foods, desserts, main dishes and the like. Included at the back are three indexes, one that lists the contributors of the recipes, one that lists the recipes by section in the book and the third lists the recipes by key ingredients, which I like a lot. This is a great cookbook that I think I will be using on a regular basis. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the books in the series and am looking forward to reading through and using the cookbook.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. The opinions are my own.

Many different recipes for any type of "chef". Though this book is a companion to the Amish Cooking Class series, readers don't have to read any of the stories to follow along with this cookbook..

Wanda E. Brunstetter has created a unique set of characters and stories in her Amish Cooking Class series. Through these books, we have connected with Heidi Troyer as she hosted cooking classes for a number of individuals. Not only did she teach them to cook, but she also helped them through situations they were facing. Now, in the Amish Cooking Class Cookbook, we have the opportunity to learn from Heidi, characters from the book, and true-life Amish contributors.

There are 250 recipes in this book, and I loved the way we get recipes from different characters from the series. I found this to be a unique approach and help this cookbook stand out from the many other Amish cookbooks out there.

Another aspect of this cookbook I loved are the basic cooking instructions. We get tips on how to measure a dash of something compared to a pinch. We also learn how to boil potatoes, cook rice, and boil chicken.
With over 200 recipes to choose from, there was a very nice selection of recipes. I particularly liked the recipes for dog treats. These recipes tied into the series and the Troyer's dog.

I loved the way this cookbook gave me a number of recipes to try and took me deeper into the series through the recipes from the characters. Not only was this a delightful cookbook, it was also unique and made for a nice addition to my cookbook collection.

This cookbook is not “just” a cookbook. Beside the many different recipes, there are several articles about the Amish way of life that are respectful of their traditions and values.

This cookbook is based on the “Amish Cooking Class” series by Wanda Brunstetter. Those who have read that delightful series will appreciate many of the comments about that series in this book. However, you don’t have to have read those books to soon realize that the recipes this book contains are ones that will become some of your family’s favorites.

I particularly enjoyed the “Advice from fellow cooks” section and will be trying out some of their suggestions. I found many recipes in the “breakfast” section that I’m looking forward to trying soon.

The beautiful photos make this book visually appealing. It would make a great gift for someone who loves learning about the Amish way of life.

As a cookbook collector, I can say this is one of my favorites. Since my heritage is Pennsylvania Dutch, i have been aquianted with and eating many of these recipes my whole life. The author has a very homey approach, sharing facts about her cooking school students and wonderful facts and pictures about the Amish. No matter where the Amish live, they have in common two things in particular, great food and their deep faith. I love the way Ms. Brumstetler injected Bible verses through the book along with the recipes. The real treasure are the recipes. All are made with easy to find ingredients. She also has modernized some recipes by using mixes where appropriate. The ones I made are delicious and the others should be as well. Great cookbook!

I’m gonna be right upfront and honest here. I didn’t get the entire cookbook but a sampler of the cookbook. What I did have access to though makes me want to own the entire thing. Not that I necessarily follow recipes (once, I’ll give it once before I start fizzyfing it if I like it). But I like recipes. I like the promise that a new recipe holds for Fizzy’s Kitchen. I like the idea that someone has created something that I want to cook for myself or the Minions.

I loved that this cookbook starts with telling about all the students that took Heidi’s class (including her and Lyle). A brief bio and their favorite foods were a cute addition to this collection that really does tie the books together. The recipes from the books are also included with this cookbook as well as many others. I also loved that the book approaches the categories of recipes as though written for a beginner cook with tips and tricks. And basic starter recipes like pie crust at the beginning of the pie section. This is so much more than just a cookbook but almost a kitchen primer based from an Amish home. Containing details regarding the Amish lifestyle, particularly when it comes to food, as well as verses from the Bible to accompany each section it’s almost like sitting in Heidi’s kitchen and taking home a stack of bound recipe cards.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

I voluntarily read this book as an advance copy! The comments regarding the book are all mine. I enjoyed the insights into an Amish kitchen. I chose to try a couple of the recipes for myself. I made the Angel Food Cake and the Dinner rolls. I will definitely be trying more of the recipes as time permits!

The Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter is slightly different from most traditional cookbooks. Based on a series of novels, fictitious characters taking a cooking class from an Amish woman.

Unfortunately, I was only able to get an extended preview of the first 97 pages of the cookbook, I cannot comment on the entire manuscript. The physical quality of what I was able to see was fairly poor so there may be some inaccuracies from the finished product.

This cookbook is not laid out like a traditional cookbook. It offers descriptions of how Amish cooking in various areas differs from modern western cooking followed by recipes related to that topic. For instance, the first chapter, after the introduction of the characters in the novel, is “Amish Cooking”. This section is a general overview of how many different kitchen tasks are tackled.

Followed by “Advice From Fellow Cooks”, it includes tips on various cooking techniques. For instance, use your eggs and butter at room temperature for best results in baking.

“Basic Recipes” are included after, including tips on how to boil eggs potatoes, rice, etc. These are not typical recipes with ingredients list and directions, but a basic overview on how to cook various dishes.

Next comes “The Amish Kitchen”, which describes what the Amish kitchen looks like as far as equipment and furnishings. Following that are recipes for “Breads and Rolls”.

“Amish Morning” follows describing how a typical Amish family spends their time in the morning. Following this are recipes for “Breakfast Foods“.

“Amish Sweets” covers those items which will satisfy the sweet tooth, and is followed by recipes for “Desserts”. “Amish Canning” describes the communal canning process, and is followed by recipes for “Spreads and Pickles”.

Unfortunately, this was as far as I was able to get in the preview, the remaining chapters, based on the contents are as follows:

Amish Gatherings and Events
Recipes for Main Dishes
Amish: Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Recipes for Soups
Amish Skills Sharing
Miscellaneous Recipes
Amish Gardens
Recipes for Salads and Sides
The Amish General Store
Recipes for Snacks, Dips, and Spices
Amish Children in the Kitchen
Recipes for Children
Index

Because I was unable to access the entire manuscript, I can’t comment on the quality of the index, but judging from the rest of the book I can only assume it was only utilitarian.

The pictures throughout the book are disappointingly small, and very few and far between. The recipes themselves are very straight-forward but include no nutritional information or even quantities so you don’t know how many servings it will make.

Glimpse How An Amish Cook Works

The book does, however, present a fascinating glimpse into how the Amish cook works and would be an excellent book if that is your interest. If you are reading the novels, this will be an excellent accompaniment. I did not feel however that any of the recipes are sufficiently different that one couldn’t find them elsewhere, like in an older cookbook.

I received a copy through Netgalley. A positive review was not required. If you have read the Amish Cooking Class series, you will especially love this cookbook. Visiting with Heidi and her students is really fun. The recipes presented here are from the stories plus others added in as bonus. Quick tips and Helpful notes are added so that even the beginning cook will find this very helpful. I cannot wait to try most of these recipes.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. I really enjoyed this book. It is a cookbook based on recipes from her Amish cookbook romance series of books. I have read several of the series and they were very enjoyable! The recipes I have tried from the book were Orange Julius, Amish Cinnamon Bread, and Yogurt. All were delightful. The pictures and the in-depth recipe descriptions and helpful in achieving recipe success. I look forward to making many more recipes from this series.

This is a wonderful compilation of recipes that truly takes you back to basics but in a smart way. I've always admired the Amish and their way of life so this book was a treat for me. I took great pleasure in trying out recipes that they use in everyday life and had fantastic results with the ones that I tried: Johnnycakes, Lazy Daisy Cake, and an all time favorite Bread Pudding. If you like using fresh ingredients in an easy to follow way, this is a great guide in doing so.. The tips included were not only helpful but also practical. I look forward to coming back again and again until I've tried all the recipes this book has to offer. I can't wait for summer to try out some of the canning ones because who doesn't love a good pickle!!!

This cookbook is a beautiful compilation of pictures, tips and recipes, along with a few extras for fans of Ms Brunstetter's novel series.

I was looking forward to trying some of the meal and canning recipes but sadly those weren't included in my advance reader copy so I'll have to look for the actual book after it comes out on February 1st.

I received a digital advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review

Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda Brunstetter is an excellent collection of recipes from a variety of sources. Some you may be more familiar with than the more traditional Amish recipes. Wanda has taken recipes from her series of Amish Cooking Class novels and added many other recipes to create this book. There are a variety of recipes from main dishes to snacks and desserts included. Many will easy for even a beginner to master. There are articles about Amish life at the beginning of each section which makes this cookbook more interesting and a special keepsake rather than just another recipe book. I have read the Amish Cooking Class series and that made me even more anxious to review the cookbook. I can just see Heidi Troyer working in her kitchen. I give this a solid 5 of 5 stars as it is well-written, researched and compiled in a logical manner. I will be trying several of he recipes.

This Amish book, surprised me and exceeded my expectations! Usually, Amish cookbooks, are just recipes (and while most are good recipes) there is usually no pictures of the end product. Not so in this Amish cookbook, which is what sets it apart from some of the others. This one has quite a few pictures, beautifully photographed!! While not every recipe has a photo, for an Amish cookbook, this one is loaded with pictures and makes it an absolute delight to cook out of!! Thank you!! An Amish cookbook to be passed from generation to generation. I highly recommend this book!
