Title: Amish Cooking Class Cookbook - Over 200 Practical Recipes For Use In Any Kitchen
Author: Wanda E Brumstetter
Publisher: Shiloh Run Press
Date of Publishing: February 1, 2018

This book was given to me by NetGalley and Shiloh Run Press in exchange for my honest review.

Filled with cooking tips and advice to assist any cook from Novice to expert. We are reminded as we travel through the book that cooking is a labor of love, but should also be enjoyed. Most Amish cooks raise much of the cooking ingredients from vegetable to live stock. So when they say they made it from scratch they are not exaggerating. Tips include everything from How to easily peel potatoes to Making Cookie Bowls for that Ice Cream Sundae Dessert.

Those Lactose intolerant among us who find the dairy alternative in the store to expensive will be pleased to know there is a recipe to make it at home for just a fraction of the cost that is easy and taste great. With the Holidays upon us Egg Nog is a must for family and guest that drop by to share the holiday cheer, but again it is an expensive purchase at the store. Why not make your own using this recipe at a huge saving and leftovers can be stored in the fridge. Then there is my favorite drink from my youth, the glorious Orange Julius. There is a recipe that taste like I remembered from my teen years. Just thinking of it makes my mouth water. Mrs. Brumstetter has even included a recipe for Root Beer that my sister swears taste just like the old A & W she loves.

If you don't like kneading bread you are covered with a No Knead Wheat bread recipe. There are starter recipes including one for Friendship bread and one for Sour Dough bread as well. Recipes for Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Sides, Snacks and Desserts can be found within these pages.

There is a quick view into the lives of these Amish cooks who have kindly shared some of their favorite recipes with us in easy to read and follow format. These cooks may lead simple lives according to many standards, but no one can deny they lead rich fulfilling lives steeped in tradition and family. We should all be so blessed.

I gave "Amish Cooking Class Cookbook" a 5 out of a total of 5 stars.

I received a DIGITAL Advance Reader Copy of this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. From the publisher -
Fans of New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter’s Amish romance novels are invited to go back to cooking basics with characters from the bestselling Amish Cooking Class series. Heidi Troyer, her students, and other contributors share over 200 practical recipes for use in any kitchen, along with tips to keep things running smoothly. From learning how to boil eggs and knead biscuits to building a German Pizza and an Amish Haystack feast, The Amish Cooking Class Cookbook includes something beneficial for every age and skill set. Divided into traditional cookbook categories, there is a recipe everyone will find to love.

Having loved the Amish Cooking School series of novels I was VERY happy to get the opportunity to see and review this book before its release. The book gives basic tips and ideas and "how to do things" that any amateur cook or kitchen-diaster-master would find helpful. What I love about the book is the simplicity of the recipes and how basic and "home cooking" they are ... just like mom made if you are lucky!!!
I am going to buy this book for my niece as part of a wedding shower gift as she is a menace in the kitchen - a Thanksgiving dinner that she had with her fiance had at their new home was three hours late and it only got served because six of the guests were stellar cooks!
GREAT BASIC COOKBOOK>

I live in the heart of Indiana Amish country and I know that if I want delicious, home cooked food the best place to find it is in an Amish kitchen. However, loving their food and knowing how to prepare authentic Amish recipes are two very different things. That is why I was thrilled to find the Amish Cooking Class Cookbook by Wanda E. Brunstetter. Not only are there recipes for scrumptious dishes, there are easy to follow directions as well.

The Amish Cooking Class Cookbook is based on actual cooking classes conducted by Brunstetter. In the opening pages you are introduced to class participants and throughout the book you read about their favorite dishes and their experiences in the kitchen. In addition, Brunstetter includes helpful information regarding every day cooking such as the proper or easiest way to boil eggs and potatoes. While that sounds simple, just think of how many rubberized eggs you've eaten in your lifetime! She also describes the Amish kitchen, lifestyle, chores and more - all of which added to the interest of the book and made it more enjoyable than a simple cookbook.

There are over 200 recipes from snacks to breads - my favorite section - to casseroles and marvelous main dishes. I would have purchased this for the breads alone but, you know...we cannot live on bread alone. Whether you are new to cooking, single and need ideas or, like me, just love good food, you will relish the instruction, recipes and stories found in the Amish Cooking Class Cookbook.

(So much gratitude to Netgalley, Barbour Publishing, Inc., and Shiloh Run Press for this mouth-watering book.)

Note: will publish review closer to actual publication date.

Great basic simple recipes.
Due to a downloading issue I could only access the first 92 pages.

An interesting look at the life of the Amish through what they eat and how it's prepared. And a recipe for Divinity which my father requested every Christmas.

The book contains a summary of her characters from the series, as well as baking tips and tricks, a bit about Amish culture, and history. All of that enhances the traditional (and some not-so-traditional) Amish recipes included. It is divided into sections (breakfast, dinner, snacks, etc) to make it easy to use, and all of the recipes call for easy to find ingredients. It would appear, based on the credits, that these recipes came from actual Amish homes and were submitted for inclusion in the book, which would lend it even more authenticity. One star removed because the e-book format was extremely difficult to read due to formatting issues. (kindle)
