This is the first book I have read by this author and it was worth the reading. This was book one of a new series and the end left me reeling and wondering what the hell was going to happen next. The story was so fast and well written that it was such a pleasure to read. Thank you for allowing me to read this and I am ready for book two. |

Julia is a sweet young girl who gets put in a whirlwind romance that takes off at lightening speed. The only issue is, Jonas is keeping secrets. Just when Julia thinks she has figured out these secrets, more secrets get piled on. It is a never ending circle of discovery and mystery. Not only is she falling in love with him, but she is also falling in love with his daughter (wherein lies most of the secrets). Why do father and daughter seem so detached? Why is Jonas always traveling last minute and taking strange phone calls from prisons? The book started out a little slow, but when things started picking up, I couldn’t put it down. The mystery, the love, the excitement. It keeps you hooked. The end makes you desperate for more. Definitely a strong cliffhanger that just adds more to the never ending mystery of Jonas Fairbanks and Julia Ellis. |

I didn’t quite connect to this book, though I would be interested to read this author again in the future as her writing continues to grow. |
Twist and turns galore. I don't mind cliffhangers, as long as you can kind of see it coming. |
I could not finish this book more than 30%. The writing was difficult to follow and did not appear to be professionally edited. I will not read the sequel. |

I was given a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review I like the relationship Natalie & Julia have, and wish there was more interaction between them as the book went on. More phone calls or text messages. A few things about Julia annoyed me. I don’t understand why she didn’t read all the letters at once. Or why she didn’t do an internet search on Jonas and his late wife. She wants answers, he doesn’t give her any, she’s curious... GOOGLE! I didn’t find the ending to be overly predictable, obviously something’s up, but what exactly wasn’t too easy to figure out. The book was written with just enough suspense to keep me engaged. This book does end on a cliffhanger. |
3* Secret Stars His Secret is the first book in the Secret Series and is told from Julia’s point of view. The story revolves around a very naive Julia, who is the nanny to Sidney, and Jonas, Sidney’s father. The characters were engaging but not very likeable. The book has quite a bit of mystery to it and I found that I was trying to piece together all the clues, as I got deeper into the book. As the heading suggests this story is filled with secrets and lies. If you enjoy a book with romance, mystery and lots of twists and turns and a massive cliffhanger, then don’t hesitate to read this. I am looking forward to the second book in the series to piece together the hidden secrets. Thanks to the Author Gina Jones and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book. |
This is a very interesting book as well as the idea behind it. Julia is a girl with dreams and they all revolve around Paris and going to cooking school there. She loves cooking and it's one of the things that she does often in the book. The book opens with her being a sort of live in nanny/taken in daughter with a pastor and his wife and their two children. She has clearly bonded with the girls and has more of an older sister relationship with them than a nanny one. She decides that she needs to look for a new job to get closer to her Paris dream and accepts the job of a live in nanny position with Jonas Fairbanks, in the Fort Wayne Area of Indiana. This is a story of the nanny falling for the father of the child she caring for but it's...not. I had a hard time really getting into things in the book. Some of them were all too stereotypical and some of them just made me go.. What? Julia is a 21 year girl that is heavily religious virgin that has never even kissed someone before in a romantic way. She falls for the father, who yes - is significantly older than her, and he falls for her too but he says things like they're meant to be...true soulmates .. things like that. For some unexplained reason, the little girl that she is looking after is basically looked upon as being the spawn of Satan by the people of the town and the school in the book but it's never really, fully explained. More secrets come out later in the book and there is a twist that I didn't see coming which was nice. Overall the book is well written, and I can see that the author has a passion for what she is doing. I just think that there was a lot crammed into the story that wasn't really necessary and some of what was put in there didn't really make sense or wasn't fully explained enough. It's a good concept and I am interested in seeing where the story goes in the next book when it comes out. |
Rating this one 5☆ It's my first to read a book from this genre and it was an awesome read! I was really intrigued! I just hate the fact that she is a nanny, i mean that's like giving the male a power and the female left powerless but it was real great and i can't wait to read the second book already! Loved Sidney 🌻 |

This book did not hold my attention.. I restarted it six times and nothing could hold me. The second chapter didn't even snag me to pull me through. |
A bit boring...found it hard to get into. Just not my cup of tea. I voluntarily read this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. |

This is a mysterious love story. We meet Julia an orphaned good girl looking for her first job. She begins a post as Nanny and really falls for her charge and boss. The holdup is things aren't adding up. I can't wait to read the sequel. |
His secret.... Oh my what a great twists and turns throughout this book. At the beginning I thought it took way to long describing her life and the life of the pastor's family; however, once she ran into the dreamy eyed guy on the bike path I was hooked. The friends she meets seems off to me and I thought her friend's patient was going to be the one to ruin her happy-ever-after !!! I was wrong, I didn't figure the ending out until I was on the last page!! My normal speed of reading is a book a week. A really great boom I can get through in a weekend. I read the first few chapters yesterday and then after work today, I finished the book. It's now midnight and I am trying to conniving e myself to gho to bed but I have HER SECRETS waiting for me to read it. !!!! What a GREAT book. I give it 4/5 stars. |
Oh my! What a read. I was hooked from the get go on this story and I am so glad that even though this ends in a cliffie I have the next one to read. I enjoyed these characters. I liked the mystery aspect. I didn’t quite figure out what was going on even though I had that inkling but once I did I was shocked. It al made sense! I can’t wait for the next! 1.5 Stars Did I read the same book as everybody else? The blurb promises dark, mysterious things and hints at (or rather straight up states) a carnal read. I got none of that. Instead, there’s incessant eye-rolling (seriously, I think this book has more eye-rolls than all the other books I’ve ever read. Combined.) and very little is explained or found out. There’s just a lot of statements made and unanswered questions that lead up to a cliffhanger. We don’t even meet the allusive Jonas until 23% in and by that time I was over caring about the story. Julia straddles the line of innocent and stupid much of the book and her actions (which are obviously meant to help the twists along) annoyed me. Sidney is ten but acts anywhere from 5 to 15. It was hard to get an understanding of her character. And Jonas, the secretive man with a “dark” past could have never turned romantic interest and I probably would have liked that better. We never really see his dark past. I felt as if the author was trying to mix too many subgenres and plot devices together in order to make sure there’d be enough material to make a series. I have to say, that even though I didn’t particularly care for the book, it sort of worked. I am curious to find out the answers to all the missing pieces. |
All I can say is WOW! This book kept you guessing! I knew this was a love story, but I didn't realize this was a mystery as well. Julia comes to work as a nanny for Jonas's ten year old daughter Sidney. She is very attracted to Jonas, and she begins to care deeply for his lonely, daughter. She brings life and love into his household. Yet, something is not quite right. She knows Jonas is hiding something. Yet, she really doesn't want to have her fairy tale illusions shattered. Unfortunately for her and Sidney, the truth finds a way of getting out. She is broken into a thousand pieces. Can she manage to let go and begin again? My one complaint, is that this has a cliffhanger ending. Now I have to wait to find out what happens! |
This book was very hard for me to get through in the beginning. The dialogue was choppy and made it difficult to enjoy. The movement of the story was slow and I nearly put it down. However, curiosity was what saved me. I love Julia's personality and shyness although the concept of the shy, un experienced girl is hardly new, I think it's addictive and will definitely get most readers going. I would definitely read the next book to see what happens! |
