Jason Reynolds has a way with words! I will read anything he writes. He is inspiring to children and adults. I can see why he was given the title America’s poet.

Jason Reynolds can do no wrong. Short and sweet but extremely moving. A good gift or keepsake book, but not necessarily a fascinating read. His video performance of this piece is stunning.

A thoughtful, inspiring book for everyone trying to do their best in the world. A great book to give for graduation or other significant transitions in life.

This piece absolutely moved me! As someone who teaches high school students, I found the message to be a beautiful one for young people to read and absorb. It was realistic yet so hopeful and inspiring. I am very likely to read this book on a regular basis - even adults need to be reminded to have dreams and reach for them. And I will definitely be giving this book to the young people in my life as they reach milestones or struggle toward their dreams. Love, love, love!

This truly is a wonderful book for everyone! It is uplifting, inspirational and motivational. Jason Reynolds is a masterful writer. His words are beautiful and full of emotion. In this lovely speech turned book, he eloquently describes the quest, including pitfalls and successes, of reaching for your dreams. Loved this book and would recommend to anyone and everyone.

This slim volume packs a big emotional punch. Jason Reynolds delivers an honest, emotional message to young and old readers alike to never give up on your dreams and aspirations, even if the definition of “making it” changes as you live your life.

While inspirational readings and poetry can often seem cheesy and inauthentic, as if they are talking down to the audience, Reynolds avoid that with his frank and conversational tone. He claims to know “nothing about that” when discussing having it all together or making it. My students giggled as he admitted moving back in with his mother at 25, when he had procimed his goal was to be a millionaire by that point. He doesn’t hide his setbacks, but validates that things may not go as originally planned, and that is not a reason to give up - a message every one of us can benefit from hearing.

Reynolds use of figurative language makes the text worthy of a close read with students. My eighth grade has used this to practice metaphor and similes to great success. They particularly enjoyed “internal eczema” to explain the itch of wanting to create and become something great. Overall, I would highly recommend this book for every teacher to have in the classroom, particularly secondary ELA teachers.

I am so glad I finally got the chance to read this lovely book. I'm taking a children's literature class this semester and, last night, I got the chance to read it since it is on our reading list. Technically, I read it early. The teacher wanted us to analyze some work on the first day and she allowed us to choose some of the books from the reading list. Naturally, I chose For Every One because I have been really eager to read it since it got announced.

It's basically in the form of a letter and verse. The letter(s) have been compiled throughout nearly the entirety of Jason Reynolds's life. He talks about how he has dreams and how struggles in life sometimes prevent him from reaching that dream. He has doubts and wonders if he will ever reach that dream.

The number one thing that grabbed at my attention was the emotion behind his words. It honestly broke my heart. As readers, we consider Jason Reynolds incredibly successful. He is a beloved author. Reading his words and visualizing how hard it must have been for him to want his dream will break your heart, but will make you feel proud that he succeeded.

There's a favorite metaphor of mine. He compares that doubt to a growing flame. The doubt that your dream won't come true is like a flame and the more you doubt, the more it will grow until it completely envelops you in fire. However, even if you don't really have doubt, that flame will always be there next to you. It's frightening, but true.

This book is not for a certain age group. It can be for anybody that has a dream. As Jason emphasizes in his letter, dreams can come true at any age. He makes sure that the reader knows that. Jason is incredibly insightful and speaks to the heart and from the heart. Honestly, he is one of my favorite authors.

Side note, we also get to read Long Way Down in class this semester and you don't know how excited I am for that. I've already read it, but we debate a lot in class already so I'm excited to put in my two cents when the time comes.

Encouragement in poetry form!
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read and review For Every One by Jason Reynolds!
A quick read poetry book giving encouragement to dreamers and sharing the author’s own experiences with having a lifelong dream. 4 stars for the portrayal of the struggling that goes hand in hand with having a dream.

I can't really review this because it went to Adobe Digital Editions. I read it quickly and then it disappeared. I love Jason Reynolds, though, and as a high school librarian I will purchase everything he writes. He has an economy of words that makes his prose as powerful as his poetry. I have ordered the book for my library and will share it with as many students as possible.

It felt a little self-indulgent at times, but overall a powerful statement about achieving your dreams. Reynolds sure knows his way around words.

There are very few books I want to own. I work in a library and have access to any of the books I may want to read so I don't own many books. This is a book I have purchased for myself. Jason Reynolds is one of my favorites and this book proves why. I feel like everyone should read this. I have read it several times already and each time I find something else that touches me. So yes Jason, I will keep it close and use it for firelight for this long and often dark road. Thank you!

Jason Reynolds does it again! I have shared this book with many friends and colleagues who have people in their lives that are graduating, telling them it is the newer, better, "Oh the Places You'll Go" type gift for the big kids in their life. The poem has a message that everyone needs to be reminded of.
