Becka has a crush on her fellow university classmate, Kim, but she finds out that Kim is actually a grimreaper.
Kim's dangerous job and nonchalant attitude is a turn off for Becka, but when the Board of Grimreapers puts a hit on Becka, the two of them team up for both of their freedoms.

Kim Reaper is a quick, fun read with colorful and energetic illustrations. Fans of Jonesy will appreciate Becka's spunkiness and the humorous banter between the characters.

I have received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I saw this first pass by Joany in the animo app where I'm a member. I found this book immediately interesting and saw that this was also a read now title from Netgalley. So I immediately downloaded it and read it in one evening!

The nice thing about a graphic novel of comic in this case, I think more comic is that it is with lots of pictures. So you go through it pretty quickly unless the pictures are really very detailed. But even then you often go through it faster than an ordinary book. I found it so easy to dive into this story, I was actually planning to read only a few pages when I suddenly realized I finished the whole book haha.

The story starts great and made me laugh immediately. I have read a lot of pages to my husband because he wanted to know what I was laughing about. It has been a long time since I have been laughing so hard when reading a book. The story is very funny, sometimes serious and especially a story that you hold on to. Because although it is not literature that you read it is an interesting story and especially the characters make sure you want to keep reading. They ensure that this story will live.

I must confess honestly after reading this book I really only want more! I was very happy when I saw at the end of the book that at the end of this year new stories will be released! I did a little dance of joy and until that time I'll reread it again! I am going to make sure that I get a physical version of this book!

Kim Reaper is a fast-paced romantic comedy adventure that will utterly charm you. The art is cute, bordering on adorable (which is a tall order for a comic about death) and the dialogue snappy.
Recommended for fans of Dead Like Me, I Woke Up Dead at the Mall, and Jonesy.

Kim Reaper is an adorable graphic novel about a college baker who gets swept up in her crush's drama with her job as a grim reaper. The storyline was interesting, but I did feel there was a certain something missing. Perhaps it went a little too fast for me, or maybe it just went in a strange direction. However, the graphic novel was really easy and quick to read, and for the most part, I did enjoy it - especially the parts where Becka and Kim interact and talk to one another.

All in all, Kim Reaper was a sweet and fun graphic novel, and I'm definitely be picking up the next volume.

The story is about two girls, Kim and Becka, who are in university together. Becka has a crush on Kim, and ends up accidentally following Kim to work. Kim works part time as a grim reaper, so it becomes a very interesting day.

I was hooked from the beginning, and I could not put it down. The plot gets moving from the start, so it's not hard to get into the story. It made me laugh just a few pages inn. I also felt that the story wrapped up nicely, even though I think, and hope, that this series continue.

The art style is very pretty and girly, without being too feminine. The colours used are mostly purple, which I felt complemented the art style a lot. I think it would have been too girly if it was pink.

One of the best things about this graphic novel is how diverse it it, and how casual it felt. Both of the main characters are into females, without there ever being a discussion if they are lesbians, bisexual or other. I really liked that the author decided to not make a big deal out of it, because it shouldn't be. I felt the same way with one of the main characters, Becka, being a woman of colour and not being super skinny. It was never something that was pointed out, and it made it feel very natural.

In conclusion, this was a very good diverse graphic novel, filled with humour. If the plot seems interesting to you, then I would highly recommend picking it up.

Sarah Graley’s Kim Reaper Grim Beginnings from Oni Press hit shelves and e-books just in time for Valentines Day. Fans of Rick and Morty will recognize Graley’s work from Lil’ Poopy Superstar while others might know her from her diary comic Our Super Adventure.

Kim Reaper opens in an university art class where Becka, her roommate Tyler, and Kim are all in attendance. Becka is all about Kim, but Kim doesn’t seem to know that she is alive. It is a tale as old as time, really.

While Becka knows that Kim is a “cutie with a booty,” what she doesn’t know could be deadly. To make rent, Kim is a part-time grim reaper. Since she is a noob, she is relegated to reaping animal souls, but a job is a job!

Becka and Kim make an interesting pair. Becka has a positive outlook and knows exactly what she wants. (She is also vocal about it, which is refreshing.) Kim, on the other hand, begins as a reserved character, more concerned with her job than the people around her. When they meet and begin influencing one another, that is when I fell in love with them both, for their faults as well as their strengths.

I heartily recommend this volume for readers who enjoy a little romance and comedy with their supernatural stories. Sarah Graley obviously loves these characters and writes them in such a way that you can’t help but become invested in their lives.

This book contains some interesting concepts and I love any books published by Oni Press, but this one unfortunately did not hold my attention. I really wanted to love it and the art is fantastic. Although, I have to admit the man with the million cats was hilarious and the way he was drawn made me laugh. That character was funny, and I found Kim and her friend from school to be very likeable characters.

A cute and entertaining story featuring LGBT characters and a fun plot. I didn't know anything about the author going in, but I'll definitely be getting more of her work. This was a cute, funny, and worthwhile story.

A cute graphic novel in which a human is working as the only non-eternal Grim Reaper. Likes: Kim & Becka. All the cats. Ghouls!

Also as someone who does a lot of outreach with the middle school set, I'm super excited that this is rather clean. I can booktalk this to my fifth and sixth graders!

*mini review goes live 3/5!*

Becka has a super huge crush on goth cutie Kim. Though they're only in an art history class together, Becka is determined to ask her out on a date and follows Kim after class one day...only to fall through a portal. It turns out that Kim is doing a part-time gig as a Grim Reaper. Becka's appearance in the Underworld soon sets off a chain of events (including being chased by zombies). Is Kim really worth it? Totally.

Kim Reaper is SO SO SO great. Cute and funny and captivating, seriously, I was hooked the entire time and absolutely inhaled this one. I mean, a suspended Grim Reaper who takes a job at a bakery? How could I pass that up? This was adorable and I'm looking forward to the next volume!

Kim Reaper is adorable! Everything I could want from a book about a part-time grim reaper. Such a fun concept - would love to see it turned into a cartoon! The art is fun, the story is entertaining, and there's a great romance thrown in! Would recommend for anyone who like the darker side of humor.

The teens in my library have a tendency to ask me, "Is it gay?" when I suggest a comic to them. If the answer is yes, they are exceedingly pleased and so even just for that I would be purchasing this title. Thankfully it's also a delightful little tale of a human who becomes a grim reaper and the girl who has a giant crush on her. I appreciate that neither of the girls are perfect and that they are both concerned with being in a healthy relationship, not just being with someone they think is attractive. I can safely suggest this to our teens and know they will love it!

Umm… HELLLOOOO CUTENESS! I received this ARC on a total whim! This was the equivalent of a “cover-buy,” and I could not be happier! The art is colourful and goth and adorable and the love story was perfect! This graphic novel is about two seemingly opposite college girls (Becka is a baker and Kim is a “part-time” grim-reaper!), falling in love and then fighting the supernatural! They travel to the underworld, and while you may expect a certain level of macabre with that setting, the art remains soft-lined and bubbly. I really enjoyed the LGBT rep. and was happy to see that the purple/black – creepy/cute aesthetic that initially drew me in was carried through the entirety of the comics.

This is the cutest little comic ever!
I already knew Sarah Graley from her adorable comics on facebook about her and her boyfriend. And this comic definitely didn't fail my expectations! It was just as cute and funny as her other comics.

It reminded me a bit of Steven Universe. It has really goofy humor which never failed to make me giggle, it was really weird (but fun) fantasy aspects, the art style is also really goofy with sometimes really fun derpy faces, but at the same time, it deals with very real feelings.
I loved the romance and how they kept the relationships real! I can't wait for the story to continue!

Thank you to Andrews McMeel Publishing and NetGalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

I really struggled to like this personally, but can appreciate I may not be in the target demographic.
Art style is 'cute' but uneven, and the narrative rambles incoherently with little plot or character development.
Very reminiscent of emerging/first-time indie comics purchased at cons rather than a published novel from an established company.

I'm obsessed with this. I love Kim and Becka. This is hilarious and adorable at the same time. I don't know how the artist managed to make a book about grim reapers, ghouls, zombies, and dead cats so cute, but she did. This was a delight to read. Becka's crush on Kim was so fun, and I loved their relationship.

What would you do if you encountered a soul reaper? I would be curious just like Becka and I will hide to watch what that reaper will do. But I would never have the guts to talk to him/her, no matter how tame-looking that reaper looks like. However, Becka is quite different because aside from the fact that she's a very inquisitive character, she likes Kim the Reaper. Because of this, Becka got entangled with Kim's situation and problems as a reaper.

The story of Kim Reaper is narrated in both the equal perspective of Becka and Kim. The illustrations are also adorably drawn just like the story; the author, Sarah Graley, did an awesome job on the pacing of the story and on the plot line. Graley is not only a comic artist, she is also a good storyteller because she was able to come up with not only a good plot, but on how to make readers engross in the story.

"It's full of skeletons and junk, and I have a skeleton inside of me. Which makes me goth Tyler"

The book gods have answered and have granted us the cutest graphic novel of the lands!!

We are first introduced to Becka who has a MAJOR SERIOUS crush on this goth chick named Kim in her class. She follows Kim down a hallway trying to get her attention when all of a sudden, Kim walks into a portal that looks similarly to a vortex of death. Low and behold, Kim is actually a part time reaper. Whodathunk?

This was intensely hilarious and intriguing and fabulous! I really loved the art! It told an awesome story and it was lively and the expressions were perfect. I giggled quite a few times, it's just really hilarious. Who doesn't like a sassy LGBTQ+ couple??

So yes, THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL IS AN ABSOLUTE TREASURE AND I LOVE IT.

Two girls at uni who fall in love and fight monsters together - what's not to like? This was such a fresh, light and fun read. The characters are total opposites: Becka is a cute girl who works at a bakery and whose main problem is making her crush notice her; Kim is a gothic girl who helps souls cross to the other side for a living. I'd say it's precisely their differences what makes their relationship so sweet - they grow to support and understand each other (even if that means fighting cats and visiting the underworld). I also felt like the art style went really well with the tone of the story and its humour. All in all, I'd recommend it for people who like comics like Lumberjanes, and I'd definitely be interested in continuing with this series!
