Thanks to NetGalley and Oni Press. This was a book with a deeper meaning for sure. As I read it, it became or and more clear. I really enjoyed it and I want a bear boyfriend too.

Okay I'm not afraid to read weird things, but this got a little uncomfortable. I mean the main character literally was dating a bear. Not one that I think most people will like.

A love story that ranges from straight-up adorable to incredibly weird. I felt awkward when it came to the physical aspects of the girl's and her bear boyfriend's relationship. I do realize the bear is probably a metaphor despite being drawn as literally a bear, but still, it was a bit too much.

'My Boyfriend Is a Bear' by Pamela Ribon with art by Cat Farris is the story of girl meets bear.

Nora has had bad luck with men, so when she meets up with an actual bear, she decides to give that a try. Love is not always easy, but Nora and bear try to get past things like broken furniture and a mate who eats more than his fair share. When Bear has to hibernate, can Nora survive?

I'll admit that this one is a bizarre concept, and I wasn't sure how it would play out, but I was completely charmed by it. The art is lively and fun. Nora is an interesting and sympathetic protagonist. This was a delightful read.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Oni Press and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

This book was fun and odd. I enjoyed the illustrations, they tell the story just as much as the words. The story is an original one, you don't hear about a girl dating a bear unless they are some kind of shifter. This guy is just a bear. They meet when she is camping with her latest in a line of bad relationships, she runs and then one day he shows up at her door. The story is how they adjust to each other and how her friends and family adjust to their relationship. It was funny and cute.

This graphic novel is about Nora, a woman who falls in love with a bear (an actual bear).

The reader follows their adventures, showing the bear to Nora’s friends, family and so on, until his eventual hibernation, when he must leave Nora.

The book is adorable and the story completely surprised me. I couldn’t put it down!

I recommend it.

So, yeah. This book is adorable. And if I'm going to ship anybody, it's going to be the couple in this book. We deserve a happy ending where nobody dies once in a while, you know?

My Boyfriend is a Bear: Big furry love!

Onipress released a sweet and cuddly love story between a woman and the bear who followed her home from the woods.

Nora is bad with love and working a crappy telemarketing job. She goes on a picnic with a douchebag hipster. After he mocs and shames her for having some fun trashy magazines to read (and he decants a wine bottle in the woods), she buries her shame in the forest floor.. where the bear is watching.

Days later the bear shows up at her house, holding a magazine with Nora’s mailing label. He is absolutely accepting of her.

The bear in this story is not a metaphor, not a hairy man, but an actual bear.

I loved this graphicnovel. It was cute and memorable.. and manages to tapdance around zoophilia, focusing instead on the bear’s personality / interactions with the human world (while wearing his Arcade Fire t-shirt).

Had a little trouble separating the reality from the book, but I liked it overall. Maybe it is my imagination, but it seems weird - the mating season quip.

This graphic novel is an adorable, unconventional romance that is a perfect fluff read. There is no earth-shattering drama, no life-threatening villain, and sometimes we all really, really need that. The chemistry between the protagonist and the surprisingly human Bear was believable and heart-warming. The drama elements that are present are incredibly relatable (an ex that won't let go, extended separation, stressful job environment). Overall a cute and fun read!

This book was delightfully weird and full of soft cuteness. A funny story for when you're in the mood for something light.

This is a cute and quirky love story. It's great light reading to entertain the mind and soul. This is my favorite kind of graphic novel I hope Pamela Robins writes oodles and oodles more graphic novels to fill my head with fun stories. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.

What can I say? It's ok drawing-wise, cute and all. The story, though? What is it about? I see a lot of confusion in other reviews and I can agree with them. I, too, am confused. Is it about love between species or metaphor of interracial love? Is it about something else? I'll tell you one thing - it's odd and I mean ODD. The bear is cute, but I don't like hairy dudes ;)

This was a cute story with interesting ideas. I liked that it challenged the defined social parameters we give to relationships. I also liked that, aside from the bear, all of the characters felt like someone you meet in daily life. It's a cute romance on the surface with a hidden message: don't let society's expectations govern your life.

Strange concept, seriously strange lol, but very cute concepts and beautiful artwork. I have to say, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

What if you got the chance to have a boyfriend or partner who is not a human? Perhaps, a bear? That would be definitely weird because I can't help but imagine that it is bestiality. However, if it's only a fictional story for entertainment purposes just like in this graphic novel, I think it is cute, funny and quite unusual. I know it's silly but a lot of women could be able to relate to Nora's story and that others might even like to have some of the characteristics of the bear in the story as their boyfriend; such as being a good listener, strong, and affectionate to name a few.

Female readers would undoubtedly love the quirky yet charming story of Nora and her American black bear boyfriend in the story, but I reckon that men will just find it really ridiculous or crazy. So if you are a woman or has a soft heart, My Boyfriend is a Bear is highly recommendable. But better skip this if you are from the male lineage because you might not understand Nora's decisions in the story.
