The Golden Glow is a quiet, peaceful adventure that explores the joys of the outdoors. Fox sets out to find a mysterious flower. Along the way he identifies plants, picnics outside, and enjoys the walk in the woods.

This book has very clever pacing that parallels an actual walk in the woods which would be full of pauses for exploration, the pages of lists and accompanying illustrations mimic those moments of slowing down. The Golden Glow captures the joy of being outside. In the end the story imparts an important message about leaving the natural world as it is.

The Golden Glow is the perfect book for nature loving kids when they can’t be outside.

Lovely art and cute story that would be a great storytime for early elementary. Could use to introduce some of the terminology.

I didn't quite expect A Golden Glow to be as captivating as it was, but I was sorely mistaken. It reminded me of the works of Don Bluth and I found it to be a wondrous addition to my library.

A fox goes in search of the holy grail of mountain flowers: the golden glow. A quiet, lovely book that will likely need to be hand sold to readers.

The Golden Glow is an enchanting book, but the illustrations are the real showstopper. Delicate and stark, evocative and sparse, they are the beating heart of this book.

The Golden Glow by Benjamin Flouw is a very interesting picture book with incredible illustrations. You will be drawn to Benjamin Flouw’s The Golden Glow right from the cover. The airy feel of the fox in the woods as well as the title in gold leaf is an immediate hook for the reader.

The story is pretty simple. The fox goes off in search of a “fabulously fascinating flower. Only found up in the mountains. He has some help along the way from various woodland animals but what makes this story extra special is the non-fiction components found throughout. Benjamin Flouw takes great care to give the reader real information about the woods. He creates a list of things fox packs to head out on his adventure. He provides pictures of the trees and close ups of the leaves fox walks beneath and he also shows us the break down of the various zones of the mountains. Not only is Fox’s story a great read aloud, but it will also inspire the reader to go looking for the different trees, help the reader pack for a summer holiday, and inspire further investigation into mountaineering. Finally, The Golden Glow will inspire the next generation of environmentalists to go out and appreciate the natural world.

This book is a double-whammy: 1 part heartwarming story, 1 part environmental biology lesson.... & I loved it! On the surface, the story follows Fox as he searches for a rare flower not pictured in his botany book. After consulting with other forest friends and heading on a big journey, Fox finds what he has been looking for. Rather than taking the flower home with him, Fox leaves the Golden Glow flower in its natural habitat to preserve its beauty and life. Meanwhile, throughout the story, readers are given spreads of easily accessible learning material that shares facts about altitude, parts of a flower, and camping essentials. Finally, the artwork is uniquely bright and engaging and uses warm hues that draw on the 'Golden Glow.'

'The Golden Glow' by Benjamin Flouw with translation by Christelle Morelli and Susan Ouriou is a wonderful picture book about nature and finding the unusual.

Fox enjoys looking through his botany books looking for new plants to add to his collection. One day he finds a plant called the Golden Glow and he must add it to his collection, so he gathers up supplies he'll need for the hike and sets out in search of the elusive flower. Along the way, he meets friends like Bear and Marten who will guide him to the elusive flower. Will he find the flower and what will he do once he finds it?

The book is filled with delightful papercut illustrations. I liked the category pages of the supplies Fox takes and the pictures of various trees and flowers. The story is wonderful as well with its gently unfolding story.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Tundra Books, Penguin Random House Canada, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

The Golden Glow is a picturebook by Benjamin Flouw, translated into English by Christelle Morelli and Susan Ouriou. It is currently scheduled for review on May 15 2018. Fox loves nature. There's nothing he enjoys more than reading about and picking flowers. One evening, he comes across a rare specimen in his old botany book -- the golden glow, a plant from the Wellhidden family, found only in the mountains, a plant that has yet to be described. Fascinated, Fox decides to set off on a quest in search of the mysterious golden glow. He packs his knapsack, a map, a compass, a flashlight, a sleeping bag and other items for his hike. Along the way, Fox observes many different kinds of trees and plants. He also encounters woodland friends who help him make it to the summit of the mountain. But when Fox eventually stumbles upon the object of his quest, he makes a surprising decision.

The Golden Glow is a picturebook that offers some nonfiction information inside the story of Fox's search for the mysterious flower. I found the plant identification and other nature information be be well incorporated into the story without making it feel like a lesson. I learned a few things, and think it will capture the attention of younger readers as well. I also like how prepared Fox is for his hunt, and how the book might be used to help young readers get excited for and prepared for nature walks, hikes, and other expeditions of their own. I found the fact that Fox consulted others, and was willing to both ask for and accept help, to be great- so often this idea is ignored. The art was stylized, the digital painting and hand painted textures looking more like the paper cut out art than the digital work I have come to expect lately. I liked the effect, and think it worked nicely with the story. The attention to detail and precise nature of the plant, tree, and other nature themed identification was fantastic. I think this book might inspire a new generation to explore, investigate, and observe the natural world and to appreciate it.

A beautiful book about appreciating and respecting nature and exploring and learning about your natural surroundings.

Fox is looking through a book on botany one day and reads about the rare Golden Glow flower. He decides he’s going to try and find it, and after carefully packing all the supplies he needs, he sets off up the mountain. Along the way, he meets other animal friends who help him find where the Golden Glow might be. The ending teaches the “Leave No Trace” mantra and that it’s more rewarding to preserve nature than to take it for yourself.

The illustrations were very pretty, with vibrant colors and angular shapes that really complimented the mountain setting of the book. I also liked how there were multiple pages that named the different types of trees and flowers, the parts of a flower, and proper backpacking/hiking gear. I can easily see this being a hit in National Park gift/book shops, or as a book to teach during natural science units in grade school (especially if field trips to parks, arboretums, or other natural lands are planned!).

A cute, quiet story about a nature-loving Fox who searches for a rare flower to add to his botany collection. On his journey, he gets help from a few forest friends and along the way he encounters different trees, flowers and the different environmental zones in the mountains. The artwork is colorful, with a modern graphic look, the mini nature guides are a nice touch. I really enjoyed this story, it touches on topics of nature, observation and leaving nature untouched.

Thank you Netgalley and Tundra Books for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for a review.

This is a beautiful book about the beauty and diversity of Nature. Fox love plants and while reading an old botany book, he finds a flower called The Golden Glow. He was not familiar with this flower, so decides he is going to head off to find one. I like how the author and illustrator labeled some of their illustrations. While packing for his trip, trees and flowers along the way with their seeds and leaves are all labeled. He meets up with some friends along the way who help him in his quest. He finally finds the flower he was looking for up on the top of the mountain. He decided that it was so beautiful, that he should leave it where it was. He observed it, drew it, labeled it and put it in his book for others to see. A book showing appreciation of nature in a simple form. It could be read to a class beginning a unit on plants and animals, studying the environment and how to protect it as well as those who just love plants, flowers and trees. My grandson noticed that most of the illustrations were done with geometric shapes. The story did not interest him as much as the illustrations, but he is only 4. I think this book would be good to read to primary aged children up to about 10 or 11.

Beautiful picture book for all ages. Fox takes the reader on a delightful botanical journey in search of an elusive plant! "The golden glow is a plant form the Wellhidden family. It is very rare and only grows high in the mountains. No specimen has ever been described." He assembles everything that is needed to take such a journey, detailing his preparation and his actual travels so the reader is absorbed and intrigued.. Flouw's artwork is gorgeous, mesmerizing and reflects Fox's actual journey - real time! : I read this picture book cover-to-dover with my children at least a dozen times in the last week. It's a lovely, entertaining gem! Thank you!

Fox is a botany enthusiast and is looking for the rare flower called Golden Glow. No one has ever seen it and it sits on top of the tallest mountain. He is determined to find it and follows the path towards the mountain while encountering other friends along the way. A mixture of fiction and non-fiction. Very nice message about preserving the environment and encouraging children to be curious about nature.

Like the rare flower in this story, The Golden Glow is a gem of a read. It's one that brings the outdoors to life, and stirs the adventurer's heart to want to be along side Mr. Fox in his quest to find the mysterious, rare flower high on the mountain peak. The rare, beautiful flow is one no one has seen, but Mr. Fox has read about it in a book.

With the help of his woodland animal friends, and a lot of persistence and not giving up, Mr. Fox finds the beautiful treasure he's been looking for. His journey in the beautiful out doors shares a message with readers about the importance of leaving things as we find them, as well as showing readers the important roles those around us play.

This is a great story mixed with illustrations that are frame worthy. I absolutely loved this book, the outdoor adventure it provided without leaving my house. Though now I long to be outdoors.

A beautifully illustrated book that explores the botanical world that a fox encounters on his adventures to find the rarest plant in the world. Reminiscent of Richard Scarry, items that fox encounters are cataloged through the illustrations. A great book for children who love the out doors and who appreciate looking a busy illustrations.

I enjoyed this title on so many levels. The illustrations are wonderful. The storyline with fox traveling on his journey to find the golden glow flower is very good. The information seeded into the story is educational for identifying a variety of flowers and trees. Best of all is the ending...

I think this is a lovely book, though I do understand how other reviewers/readers may find it slow paced. The pages are perfect to flip through with younger readers to point out objects and plants (the contents of the backpack or different kinds of trees/flowers).

The illustrations are full of color but have an approachable, simple style.

The book told a story but didn’t seem to have a point. There was a lot of build up to finding the flower, so leaving it to grow with little fan fair felt anticlimactic.
