I have read several books from this author and also in this series so I was thrilled to read this one. Verity has a ghost named Frankie that is a riot. He is now trying be romantic and date. This ghost is clueless in that area and lots of laughs. Verity and her fiance` Ellis want to get away from it all so Ellis books a ride on the new train called the Sugarland Express which will take them days and hopefully relax them both plus together time without all the family and ghost drama. However, now Frankie wants to come along and bring his girlfriend. This book and series is loads of laughs and will leave you wanting more.

Can you imagine Murder on the Orient Express Southern Ghost Hunter Style? No? I had a tough time grasping that too because although there are several plot similarities, there are a whole lot more differences. But, the plot is a real kick and a bang up mystery, too and two. You get two mysteries to solve in this book, one a ghostly murder and the other a very real live one. Great book and a unique plot merging the ghostly realm with the real world.

Verity Long and boytoy, Ellis are longing for some away time from all the ghostly shenanigans and goings on that make up Verity's life in Sugarland, TN. Ellis manages to score the last compartment on the maiden run of The Sugarland Express train through the Tennessee mountains. The train is as authentic as possible, but with very modern amenities, of course. It also comes with a tragic murder and disastrous end for the "ghost" train.

80 years ago the train was stranded and a young woman was stabbed to death in her locked compartment. The murder was never solved. Those ghosts are back and the whole thing is played out again. Also back is a ghostly Belgian detective and he thinks Frankie is a cop too.

When the stabbing plays out again, in real life, Verity and Ellis are stuck on The Sugarland Express with both a ghostly and an all to real murderer. It's time for ghost Frankie and his girlfriend Molly to lend a hand to the living and help solve both cases before Verity ends up as a ghost too.

I have read and enjoyed this entire series but I have to say this is the best of all of them, hands down. First off, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning of the series so you get the most out of this entry. However, it can be read as a stand alone but why would you? Verity and her honey, Ellis, are taking a bit off time off from ghosts and family by going on a short train trip on the newly restored Sugarland Express. What could possibly go wrong? This is Verity we are talking about so the answer is....a whole lot can (and does) go wrong. For one thing her ghostly room mate, Frankie, insists on going along. Then things get really wild and Verity and Ellis have little time to relax and get to know each other better. Now they just need to get back home in one piece after solving a very, very cold case and an equally warm one. I'm already looking forward to #7.

I absolutely love the Ghost Hunter series and those installment did not disappoint. I thought this book was a bit of a change. It was more focused on the mystery than the humor. Although Frankie the German always has his moments abd makes you laugh I honestly felt like I was reading a novel by the Queen of Suspense the great Agatha Christie. This book grands you from the first page and leaves you hoping the next book is already out! Great read!

I have no idea how Ms. Fox able to do this. Each book in The Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series was better than the last. This one was no different.

Verity and Ellis were hoping to have a getaway in a historical train journey. Historical alright, as the original train was plunged to a river. Unfortunately, mysteries followed our beloved couple wherever they went, both in living and ghostly plane. Both mysteries were extremely intriguing, made me guessing to the end. The suspense (well, not so suspense as this was a cosy mystery, yet enough thrill to keep me awake) was so fluid. Just when you thought it’s over, it’s started again. It’s just so good.

I also loved how the characters developed. Verity and Ellis’ relationship was getting stronger, unshakeable, yet still had rift raft to make it believable. However, what I loved most in the character development compartment was Beau. We were shown another part of him that, I at least, didn’t see it coming.

Now I really want the next book…

I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through NetGalley, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

All Ellis Wydell wanted was an intimate, soft opening for his new restaurant, to introduce friends and family to his new business, but he forgot to take into consideration one thing, his mother. Verity Long, ghost hunter extraordinaire, had a really bad feeling about the night Ellis chose for his opening. First, this night was the one year anniversary of what would have been her wedding to Ellis' brother. Second, both her ex, and her almost and potentially-still-in-the-future-but-OMG-it's-too-soon-to-go-there mother-in-law, Virginia, were going to be there. Third, Frankie, her resident ghost, talked her into dragging both him and his ghost-girlfriend to the opening.

Although after their not-so-wonderful entrance at the restaurant, everything went rather smoothly, neither Ellis or Verity was happy the next morning. The article that ended up in the newspaper was centered on the rumor that Verity's engagement to Ellis' brother was back on--it wasn't--and casserole toting neighbors congratulating her for it was just the icing on that crap cake. After seeing an advertisement for the maiden voyage of the Sugarland Express vintage train, Verity and Ellis found the escape they were craving. Days of just the two of them on a luxury train journey sounded like just what they needed.

The Sugarland Express was lost on its first maiden voyage in 1929 due to a faulty bridge, and this maiden voyage of the new and improved vintage train was looking to end in disaster as well. As past meets present, event for event, including the murder of a young woman in compartment 9, Verity and Ellis, with the unlikely partnership of Virginia, are racing the clock to solve both murders and vandalism before disaster strikes again.
Murder on the Sugarland Express is the sixth installment in the Southern Ghost Hunter series, and one of the best, in my opinion. Angie Fox has done a wonderful job of keeping the action and suspense very well paced and keeping whodunit well disguised for both murders, right until the end. I really loved seeing Ellis’ and Verity’s relationship going forward, their tie getting stronger as time goes by despite the bumps—craters—along the road of their relationship. I highly recommend Murder on the Sugarland Express to readers that love adventure, mystery, fun and happy endings.

Well with the latest version of the classic Agatha Christie novel being brought back to the big screen I'm hardly surprised that this author has been inspired to pen her own train murder mystery. As you would expect it's quite a doozy too with not only a ghostly murder to solve but one happening here and now in real time ! Poor Verity just wanted some quality time with her boyfriend Ellis and this historical train journey seemed just the ticket ! Trouble is there are people onboard who Verity is only too well acquainted with not to mention the ghosts that are haunting the train .
Ok I don't wish to give too much away but long time fans of this series will know that Verity is dating her ex's older brother . Which obviously causes issues but even more disturbing is the way Ellis's mother has really had the knives out for Verity . Here we just might start to see the dynamics change but to say more would ruin the fun.
What I can say is the effervescent Frankie and his new ( and very sweet ) girlfriend make their presence known which adds to the fun and lets face it chaos! I loved that Verity got swept along with all the ghostly goings on but it was the nefarious goings on in real time that really made this story hurtle along . Yes there's mystery but most of all it's a fun fast paced story that had surprises and an ending to make the most jaded reader smile
This voluntary take is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

Another fun adventure with Verity, the ghost seer, and her boyfriend Ellis, the brother of her ex-fiance. This one is a fun filled romp on a revised train, that has echos of Agatha Christie. Naturally Verity has to take her gangster ghost with her, and his new lady. And of course Ellis' brother and mother are on the train too. Poor Verity cannot get a break! Highly recommend this book, series and author. Hard to put down.

Old and New Murder Mysteries
Murder on the Sugarland Express is the sixth book in Angie Fox’s Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. Ms. Fox has written a book with lots of laughs and an intriguing mystery that kept me guessing until the reveal. The story flowed smoothly and the characters are well developed. This book can easily be read as a standalone because the author has done an excellent job describing and explaining the main characters and their backgrounds. I recommend this book for everyone who enjoys reading paranormal cozy mysteries.

Verity Long has put her unconventional and unwanted ability to see and communicate with ghosts to good use and started a ghost hunting business, but she needs the help of Frankie, the 1920’s gangster ghost she managed to ground to her property in Sugarland, Tennessee. Frankie can’t leave the property unless Verity has his urn with her. Her boyfriend, Ellis Wydell, who is the Deputy Sheriff and her ex-fiancé’s brother, continues to believe in her abilities and is supportive of her helping the ghosts who need her. After attending the soft opening of Ellis’ restaurant, Southern Spirits, Verity and Ellis decide to go on a romantic getaway and take a vintage train trip on The Sugarland Express through the Tennessee mountains. Frankie convinces Verity to take him and his new girlfriend, Molly, who he wants to impress along, and to her dismay, Ellis’ brother, Beau, and their mother, Virginia are on the train. A ghost appears and tells Verity that a century ago, the train was stranded in the mountains, and a young woman was found stabbed to death in her locked compartment and tells her she must prevent the same thing from happening again. Unfortunately, history repeats itself and Verity is determined to figure out what happened not only on the original train trip, but on this one as well.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Verity Long is back and she can’t help but get embroiled in a mystery even on a train. Verity and Ellis need to get away from it all so they plan a romantic getaway aboard the Sugarland Express. Gangster ghost Frankie cons his way aboard with his latest flame Molly. You would think they would be safe from mystery but they manage to get involved in not one but two mysteries. Each will captivate your attention and keep you guessing. This is a fantastic addition to the series.

Angie does it again. This book pays respect too the Oriental Express just in a paranormal way. Verity and Ellis can't catch a break, not from family, ghost or murder. This is a fast paced ride that will have hanging onto your sits because the Sugarland Land Express is ready to leave the station, with the living the dead and murderer or two. I appreciated the closer between two of the main characters and the ghost murder mystery was woven in beautifully with murder that took place in present.

Angie Fox has done it again. I loved this book I read it in an afternoon. For fans of Verity and Ellis you will love it. Believe it or not even Beau and his mother are a little nicer. Not enough of Lucy the skunk but kind of hard to take a skunk on vacation.

Frankie the gangster ghost has a new squeeze and they tag along with Verity and Ellis on their “getaway vacation “. Frankie tries to pretend he doesn’t know they want to get away from hm.

There are two murders to solve. One current and one that happened on the original Sugarland Express in 1929.

This is a fun, cozy mystery I am sure you will enjoy.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In the 6th book of Angie Fox's Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries, Verity Long and her boyfriend, Ellis, decide to take an overdue vacation and leave family and ghosts behind to take a train ride through the Tennessee mountains on the maiden ride of the replica of the Sugarland Express. One hundred years ago, the original Sugarland Express had a murder but before any investigation could be done, the train met with disaster and everyone on board plunged to their deaths when the train derailed over a bridge into water.

Verity's plans for alone time with Ellis fall apart when Frankie insists on coming along. Once on board, Verity finds that it's not only Frankie and his girlfriend Molly, but the ghosts of those who perished on the initial run. When history repeats itself, Verity and Ellis must find the killer of the current murder before the train and everyone on it, meets the same tragic end of those in the past.

I love all the books in this series, but I have to say, this one is my favorite. Fun characters and great plotting and story line will keep your interest and keep you up late at night. I definitely recommend this book to all who love cozies with the paranormal element in it.

Verity's at it again! This time while she's supposed to be on vacation. You know how it goes, though. When a lady can see ghosts, she gets drawn into some pretty wacky scenarios.

Plus, people keep trying to kill her. But hey! That happens to the best of us, right?

I'm going to take a second here to point out that Verity might be somewhat cursed (for lack of a better word) by Frankie's ghost and her ability to interact with the spirit world, but poor Ellis has to put up with his spoiled younger brother CONSTANTLY trying to get back together with his woman. While Ellis's mother is (somewhat) getting better when it comes to his and Verity's relationship, Beau is just the world's biggest jerkface. The guy seriously needs to find a hobby because his obsession with getting Verity back is NOT COOL, MAN. NOT COOL AT ALL.

The mystery of what happened on the train all those years ago is intriguing. The parallel mystery in the present is just as exciting. Death! Murder! Mayhem! And so many secrets. Everyone has a few, right? And Verity and Ellis have to ferret them out before anyone else ends up dead.

I like this series. It makes me grin and I have the biggest soft spot for how quick Ellis is to trust Verity and the crazy things she ends up in the middle of.

A big thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. I rate this book at 3.75. I have read and enjoyed Angie Fox before. I have not read any of this series. I do not feel it reads well as a stand alone. There is to much missing information, it is a bit confusing. I finished the book and the story is cute. It is an easy quick read.

Verity rides the Orient Express Angie Fox style!! When Verity and Ellis try (And I mean try and do not succeed) to get away on a much needed romantic excursion it results in murder. Frankie the mobster ghost and his new squeeze tag along and lend a hand in a train ride murder that mirrors one that reflects itself from the past. Never enough Lucy but still love Fox's world of romance, crime drama, and ghosts. "A copy of this book was provided by Moose Island Books via NetGalley with no requirements for a review. Comments here are my honest opinion." Easy, Quick read which I am not sure if it would be a stand-alone since I have been reading from the start.
