Fans of World War 2 stories will want to snap this one up! Set mainly in Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1938, the pressure builds as Hitler's Third Reich grows, engulfing more of Europe. A young American woman desperately tries to arrange transport for the Jewish refugees trapped there, at the risk of her own life.

The plot premise and history of the story were intriguing; it had me imagining the terrible circumstances and decisions that came with them. To give a child a chance to survive the onslaught of the Nazi regime, they must have been so desperate to put them on a train in a stranger's care, holding onto a thread of hope that they would someday be reunited. The characters in the story were an interesting mix, and seemed realistic, from the valiant to the evil ones. The story seemed to drag a bit in parts, but the ending was a satisfying one.

Recommend to readers who enjoy historical Christian fiction with a little suspense and a hint of romance.

I had read Tricia Goyer's Amish books, and was excited to read her latest WWII novel. This is the second book in her London Chronicles series. If you haven't read the first book, this is a good stand alone novel.

Amity Mitchell is an American woman living in London. She is a Christian, trying to serve the Lord wherever he calls. She is working for an English author as a tutor for his daughter. When her brother writes and asks for her help, she leaves her comfortable life and travels to war-torn Czechoslovakia. There, she sees with her own eyes how the Nazis are persecuting the Jews. She joins a group of people who are working tirelessly to send Jewish children out of Czechoslovakia to safe homes in America and England.

As a side plot, Amity meets a Jewish woman named Pavla and her two children. Pavla's husband was recently killed, and she is desperately trying to get her children out of Czechoslovakia. Pavla is also being pursued by her husband's murderer, who thinks she has information about a hidden treasure.

Overall, this was a very good book. I enjoyed the history of the real life kinder-transports that happened during the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia. Tricia Goyer is a talented author, offering the reader a glimpse into the past. As a mother, I ached for the Jewish parents who made the incredibly difficult decision to send their children to strangers. They faced an uncertain future but knew the alternative was death.

I would recommend you put this on your reading list.

A Daring Escape by Tricia Goyer is a compelling story of the Czechoslovakian kinder transport program during World War II. Strong and vibrant characters whose stories draw the reader in right from the start. A riveting plot that is masterfully written with realistic dialogue and descriptive scenes, intrigue, suspense and a sweet romance. A poignant story of families being torn apart, a reminder of the horrors of war and its impact, a story that is grippingly honest and made me wonder what happened to the children who were rescued. The author has done a wonderful job with this historical novel and I look forward to reading more of her works. I received a complimentary copy of the book from NetGalley and was not required to write a review. The opinions are my own.

I am a fan of Tricia Goyer, I’m not going to lie but this book was awesome. The imagery, the flow of the words and so many other things that had me on the edge of my seat waiting for what happened next. I knew a happy ending was in the works yet the book wasn’t predictable. There were a couple slight of hands that I saw through yet I was still surprised by the truth.
I was disappointed that Amity’s brother didn’t have a greater presence in the book even though it played well. I loved Amity’s strength, it wasn’t fake or unrealistic even when I was thinking that I would walk away in this situation the fact that she didn’t fit well with her character and heart.
This book is the telling of about four different stories that eventually converge and it was beautifully handled. There was no confusion and even when I was left at cliff wanting to know more of one before the author moved on to another I cannot really complain. The characters were lovely and well done, I could see them in my mind as I read. Their postures, mannerisms, voice, everything, I was truly drawn into this world.
If you love WWII novels, this is the book for you. If you love Tricia Goyer books, she does not disappoint.

World War 2 is looming on the horizon. Amity Mitchell is living a comfortable life in England until her brother summons her to Prague. The Nazi forces are tightening their hold on the country and Andrew needs help getting as many Jewish children out of the country. Amity knows this is God's Call to help these children so she can not refuse.

Another excellent WWII novel! This one takes place in Czechoslovakia in the late 1930's. Amity, an unsuspecting tutor helps to set up transports for Jewish children to leave the country.
Very interesting and heartfelt novel! I loved the background of Amity's name.

I have to admit I was a little nervous going into this book because I really didn't care for the first book in the series. But I have liked her other books so I went into it with an open mind and was pleasantly surprised to find it more like her previous books I'd liked.

I am always thrilled with books with strong female leads - so it wasn't hard to love Ami. Her bravery and tenacity were welcome personality traits during a time in history when they were so desperately needed.

I have to admit I was also glad to find a touch of romance in the book too. It always warms my heart a little and was a nice bright spot in an otherwise very sad book.

While this book is fiction, it is always good to be reminded of things that happened in the past. We must never forget all the families torn apart during WWII. I cannot imagine what those mothers went through and it was a good reminder what a mother's love truly means.

I can recommend this book without reservation to others that like WWII era books.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Better than the first book in the series! I really enjoyed A Daring Escape by Tricia Goyer. Such bravery in a time of troubles and sorrow. Amity, a private tutor, takes a trip to Prague to help her brother organize transportation for Jewish children before the Germans invade. Pavla is trying to get her children on one of the transports and to safety after her husband and in-laws were killed. Can they escape the coming invasion? There is danger, betrayal and romance. I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I received this book from NetGalley for my review and all opinions are my own.

This is the second book in the London Chronicles series. The first book was called A Secret Courage.

This book is set around WWII, and children in Czechoslovakia need help getting out of the country before the Germans take over. Amity is a tutor to the daughter of an English writer. Even though she’s American, she’s in England to be close to her brother, who works for the British government. When Amity’s brother sends her a telegram around Christmas, her life is going to take a turn she’d never have imagined.

There’s also another plot to follow, revolving around a Jewish family and the German soldier who is (sometimes) tracking them for a treasure he obviously never finds. I say sometimes because there are stretches of time where that plot ends up pushed to the side as we read about Amity and her plight.

Anything dealing with the horrors of WWII is going to have a somber tone to it, and that’s understandable. But as a result, I was more interested in the plight of the children than the romance between Clark and Amity.

When I picked this book to read, I didn’t realize I’d read the first book in the series. I wasn’t a huge fan of that one, and most of the issues I had with the first book would apply to this one. There’s one exception, and that’s the fact that this one feels like a complete story, so I ended up liking it more. This book isn’t connected to A Secret Courage, so you could read these out of order or alone. The book wasn’t as depressing as it could have been, and I did enjoy it overall. I give it 3.5 stars.

"A Daring Escape" is a Christian historical set in England and Czechoslovakia from Dec. 12, 1938 to April 13, 1939. This is the second book in the series, but it has different main characters than those in the first book.

Amity's brother asks her to organize the efforts to register Jewish children in Czechoslovakia for kindertransports while he helps find sponsors for them in England. She feels God has called her to this potentially dangerous job. She works to save the children until after the Nazis invade and start questioning her about some of the people who are on those trains. The other point of view characters were: a Nazis who is searching for the wife of a Jewish man he killed so he can discover the hidden treasure her husband left behind. And the wife of the murdered man who has to flee with her children and face the agonizing choice of giving up her children to save their lives.

The characters were likable and acted in realistic ways. The suspense came from the physical danger to the good characters. The historical details and setting were woven into the story. The Christian element was mainly the willingness of various Christians to risk their lives to help Jews escape. There was no bad language or sex. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.

An intimate look at a piece of history we dare not forget - the period of such darkness in Europe also had so many unsung heroes working their hardest to do the right thing. This story takes a look at one little piece, which was a new part of the story for me!

Tricia Goyer delivers a solid tale of perseverance in A Daring Escape. This is one of her best books yet. Goyer has a solid fan base no matter what the genre and it is easy to see why. A Daring Escape is a suspenseful tale that follows Amity Mitchell as she leaves her safe life as a tutor in England and travels to Czechoslovakia. The reign of Hitler is spreading and the time for the Jewish population to escape is slipping away. Amity joins her brother and others in a fight to save lives.

Tricia Goyer had me hooked from page one, and I loved it I wished it would never end but alas it did. The story tells of Amity a American whose brother got her a job as a tutor to the daughter of a English authors daughter, but then after two years he gets her to come to Czechoslovakia where he is doing some work for the British government. Being a great brother he leaves her there to carry on whilst he headed back to England, and by the way its December 1938 just before Hitler sent in his troops to Czechoslovakia. The job of his sisters was to try and get as many Jewish children out as soon as possible. So o real pressure then Her boss the author gave her the time of to go and not only that but had fallen in love with her and been unable to say anything Amity has fallen in love with him and didn't want to jeopardise her job so also kept it hidden. So some great dynamics for a great novel and I don't think you will be disappointed I certainly wasn't. There is another character that needs to be mentioned a Jewish Lady called Pavla she has a young son and daughter, unfortunately her husband and his parents are killed by a Pro German Czechoslovakian man and this leads to a second plot that adds to the suspense of the story, and if that isn't enough there is a great couple of lines as to how Amity got her name to make you smile. There is a very natural and open faith line taken through this novel which adds to the story a strength and powerful dynamic that is a true enhancement that many authors don't manage but Tricia does.
I have been given a free copy of this book from NetGalley in return for a honest review.

I usually love Tricia Goyer's books, but I had such a hard time getting into this one. I don't know if it's because it was during the holidays when I read it, or that the story line was difficult to plod through, or what....but I just couldn't get into it. It seems very well researched and the characters have depth; it just wasn't for me.

I appreciated the fact that this book had romance, courage, and heartbreaking circumstances between its pages! You too will get caught up in the story of a lost treasure, daring stories of children being taken to the safety of England during a Kindertransport, and the unspeakable bond between a parent and her children!
A young tutor is asked to go into prewar Czechoslovakia to help to organize and ready children for Kindertransport, and a treacherous German villain tries to keep a woman and her children from gaining their freedom because he wants revenge for a wrong done to him as a child!
You will have to read the story for yourself to find out what happens to the tutor, the evil German, and the woman who tries to escape his clutches!

A DARING ESCAPE by Tricia Goyer. Harvest House. Jan 1
Having read the first book in this series was glad to see this second book. Amity is an English tutor, during the height of WWII in England. A telegram to come to Prague, from her brother, an organization kindertransport,,Jewish children were involved. She was wanting to do more, and thought of returning to Chicago, or was this the answer. Her feelings for Clark her employer wasn't going nowhere. What follow is five months of risking her life, that will leave readers grasping at all that was involved. Would she return to British soil, and even love ever again. Great plot that seemed as though you are there, and wonder could any of them escape. Well done, and hopefully a third book will come in this series. Given ARC. by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

I read the majority of this book in one setting. It was a very engrossing look at pre-WW2 in Czechoslovakia and the kindertransports. Most WW2 novels I have read are focused on the concentration camps, Austria, Poland, London, or Germany. This is the first book I can remember that is set in Czechoslovakia. The setting, characters and plot are well written, there is some conflict and slight mystery and it is well developed and the resolution is satisfying.
I enjoyed the first book in the series and I have really enjoyed this book. I cannot wait to see what Goyer writes next!

Thanks to Netgalley and Publishers for an advanced copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

A Daring Escape is one of the most well written novels I have read about the Holocaust and WWII in quite a while. I truly could NOT put it down and read late into the night to finish. Tricia Goyer writes a compelling account of the characters involvement in the kinder transports of Jewish children headed out of Europe and away from Hitler's evil clutches. She sets a very real fictional story against the tragic backdrop of the Holocaust. The characters, Amity, Andrew, Clark, Pavla, Celia, Emil, etc., all felt extremely real and identifiable, in their struggles to ensure they aided as many children as possible in the escape from Europe before it became too late. One aspect that truly touched me- as this is the first time I have read a Holocaust novel that was not written by a Jewish author- Ms. Goyer's very sympathetic and kind and real portrayal of the fear the Jewish people felt during this scary time in history. Ms. Goyer writes an accurate depiction of the desperation felt in the attempts to escape, and the admirable efforts by non-Jews to help the Jewish people. I could really feel Pavla's sadness and her longing to save her children even while mourning her husband who was murdered by the Gestapo. A Daring Escape is truly a must read. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
