This suspense novel by Mehl will not disappoint her fans. U.S. Marshal Casey Quinn and her partner Doug are tasked with getting a high-risk witness to D.C to testify before a grand jury about a crime boss whose crimes include terrorism. While they are just doing their protection detail job, the task becomes more dangerous and more difficult because their home office is bombed and they are out of touch with their boss Batterson who was supposed to set up a meeting with FBI agents. One agent, E.J. Queen, does join their detail, and he has previous interactions with Casey, so there is romantic tension there, too. The scenes shift back and forth between Casey trying to get Valerie safely to testify and the hospital where Battersron’s life is hanging by a thread. The scenes move quickly and the action is non-stop. From the beginning, Mehl hooks the reader in the scenario of life or death, both Batterson’s and Valerie’s. For that reason, it was a book that enthralls the reader and entices you to keep reading to the end.

The subject manner has to do with current things that are happening and is amazingly scary. You have two agents baby sitting an eyewitness - who they found out that that witness was - - - - nah I'm not going to ruin it for you but it is intense and shocking - and explains the whole reason for all the serious twists and turns and screeches and topples - boy is this fun - you will enjoy yourself too if you love mystery and intense suspense.

This is book three in the Defenders of Justice series, however I believe it is a stand alone book. This book is well written and will keep your interest all the way through.

U.S. Marshal Casey Sloane is a beautiful, dependable, Marshal who knows how to do her job. When a routine job turns into anything but, she must find strength she did not even know she had and put some of her past behind her.

While trying to keep a witness safe Casey and her partner must keep their cool, deliver a witness and stay alive.

If you like FBI/Police type, modern, suspenseful romance you will like this book.

A crime thriller involving the protection of a witness who has more to risk than her own life. Valerie Bennett and E. J. Queen, both part of the US Marshals Service, were frenemies tasked with transporting journalist Casey Sloan from St. Louis to Washington DC to testify before a grand jury. The catch: after completing her own research, her original source has disappeared and is presumed dead. Mehl moves the story from St. Louis to upstate Ohio to Seattle to Pittsburgh in order to save the life of both the protagonists and the life of the one who they are charged to protect.

The result is a believable story that will hold the reader’s attention from the initial attack in chapter one to the last few pages of the Epilogue. A bit of faith draws the reader allows the reader to get a glimpse of how God works in the life a believer while on the job.

The book certainly belongs on the shelf of the local public library. For some, it will be a welcome addition to the church library. For the individual looking for the perfect summer getaway read, this would fill the bill nicely. This reader enjoyed the book greatly — hopefully, other readers will as well.

Mehl has another winner in book three in the Defenders Of Justice series. This is a stand alone book, you do not have to have read the first two books in the series. Blind Betrayal involves witness protection. The FBI and U.S. Marshals come together as they are transferring a journalist to a safe house. If you like lots and lots of action and nail biting suspense with a bit of romance then this is the book for you. Bombs exploding, kidnapping, and murder. Road rage to kill, gunfights and those who are not what they seem, all make for a very interesting read..........I received a copy of this book from netgalley and Bethany House Publishing in exchange for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

This was an enjoyable book from start to finish! I loved Casey: her spunk and her heart. She was not the perfect person. She had some deep seated issues that added a realness to her story. Likewise, I liked E.J. and the chemistry between them was excellent.

I enjoed this story. It paced very well and didn’t drag. I also noticed that this book didn’t follow the pattern of the first two in the series, which I appriecated. This was all in all an excellent story with strong characters.

Definitely look forward to more books by this author.

If. you have never ready Nancy Mehl but enjoy Terri Blackstock, Brandilyn Collins, or Christy Barritt you’ll enjoy Nancy Mehl.

I did it again, folks: picked up Book 3 of a series for which I’ve not read Books 1 or 2. But I easily jumped into Blind Betrayal and didn’t feel like I had missed much at all. Obviously, some back stories between several characters exist, and I would do well to read the previous books and catch up. But I didn’t feel that hindered my enjoyment at all.

I read Blind Betrayal fairly quickly – it took just a couple of days to finish. A good thing, because the plot and pacing certainly made me want to find out what happened next! I’m really excited to go back and read the other books in the series — one of the perks of coming into the series late. 🙂

Mehl’s Christian faith shines through without coming across as preachy or beating the reader over the head with it. Clean content and action-packed; certainly recommended for fans of action/adventure and mystery.

Wow!!! This may well be Nancy Mehl's best work of suspense yet. There is intrigue, romance between old flames, terrorism and the fight against it, FBI involvement, and more. US Marshals, Casey and E.J. are professional and highly trained as well as the couple you root for. The romance does not play a heavy part in the story, as the marshals and the people entrusted to their protection are the focus of the book, but it certainly makes the relationship more exciting.
Nancy is well-known and loved for her Mennonite fiction, but the move to suspense has been well-received by her faithful followers. Suspense is one of my favorite genres so I'm thrilled for one of my favorite authors to feed my addiction.
This is the third book in the Defenders of Justice series, and while Blind Betrayal, can be read alone, I think it will give more insight into the characters and plots.
I am rating this novel 5 ***** stars and wish I could give it more.

Nancy Mehl has come out with book 3 of the Defenders of Justice series, and Blind Betrayal is definitely worth the wait. I will admit, that this book review is a bit hard for me to write because I liked it so much and I want to give you all the reasons that this suspense book is a must read, but I am a firm believer in not giving away any spoilers. Therefore I’m going to give you some hints at the action in the Blind Betrayal book review, but you’ll need to get the book and enjoy it for yourself you get the full complexity of this novel.

Casey Sloan and Doug Howard are U.S. Marshals working out of the St. Louis Office. They have been tasked to escort a reporter to Washington D.C. to testify in front of a grand jury. The reporter’s name is Valerie Bennett and she was working on a story with environmentalist Martin Avery. When Martin disappears, Valerie’s testimony is even more critical and that puts her trip to Washington under a spotlight. The story begins with a major attack on the St. Louis Marshals Office just moments before Casey, Doug, and Valerie are supposed to meet with their boss to finalize plans. Not knowing the cause of the attack, they need to start their trip without backup and without a consistent communication with their home team.

E.J. Queen, working out of the D.C. Marshals office, joins Casey and Doug to help transport Valerie safely for her hearing. The addition of E.J. to the team is not comfortable news for Casey. Two years ago, she and E.J. had been partners in D.C. and she had to leave abruptly for personal reasons. However, Casey is always a professional and she won’t let her past history interfere with her commitment to protect their witness at all costs.

His Italian mother used to tell him that God put warning bells in our heads to tells us when we’re in danger. “You listen to God’s bells, Tony,” she’d say. “When they go off, you stop what you’re doing until you know everything’s okay.”

Meanwhile, the story is also getting complex back in St. Louis as Richard Batterson and Tony DeLuca, Doug and Casey’s superiors, are trying to track the movements of their agents and stay safely in contact with them. But they are going to be fighting for their lives as well as the story unfolds.

If you like a good mystery, and suspense keeps you from putting down a good book until LONG after you told yourself that you HAD to get to sleep, this is the book for you. Even the Epilogue contains a plot twist that keeps you guessing until the very end. I hope you enjoy Blind Betrayal as much as I did.

If you enjoy mystery with non-stop action, this read will give you all you want, most of the time your heart will be in your throat.
We are with the US Marshall, then with help for the FBI and local police, somehow, we are moving a witness to DC, but in reality, we are trying to save our Country, and you keep wondering whom will come out of this alive.
This is the third book in this series that the author has offered, and it is just as good as the first two, and each can be read alone, but you may want to peruse the previous books, you won’t be disappointed.
I am hoping for more in this series, guess I like being frightened, at least in a book!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Bethany House, and was not required to give a positive review.

Mehl has crafted a novel about U.S. Marshals, perhaps a less known part of federal law enforcement. Casey and another marshal are tasked with guarding and transporting a woman who is to be a witness at a grand jury. The testimony would help give the FBI enough evidence to convict a terrorist with a dangerous cell near St. Louis. The terrorist has undercover operatives everywhere. A routine transporting assignment becomes deadly for Casey.

There is lots of action and suspense in this novel. The terrorist seemed to outwit Casey and the other law enforcement officials at nearly every turn. The plot gave me a real sense of how well a terrorist cell could infiltrate a community given time. It also reminded me how little terrorists value life. Anyone in their way can be eliminated without much thought.

There is also a bit of romance in the novel as a marshal Casey knew before joins her on her assignment. There is hurt and misunderstanding between the two that must be dealt with if a romance is to blossom.

I do recommend this book to readers who like lots of action. There are bombs exploding, gun fights, automobile accidents, kidnappings, and more. There is a bit of character development but the emphasis in on action and suspense.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

I am reviewing a copy of Blind Betrayal through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:

Martin Avery wants to tell his attacker’s that he is a good son and helps to care for his Special Needs Sister. He is angered, he is a good man so why is someone out to hurt him?

Deputy u.S Marshall Casey Sloanne has been working at the St Lois Marshall’s office for a couple of years when she is given a routine assignment helping to transport a reporter Valerie to D.C to testify in front of a Grand Jury. The reporter had been a story about an up and coming environmentalist who disappeared, and later discovered whose backers may have ties to terrorism.

This seemingly ordinary assignment suddenly takes a shocking turn, Casey must put her own feelings aside about the unexpected reappearance of a man from her past , as she and the other two marshals take Valerie on the run. Soon it becomes apparent her testimony has more dangerous implications than they knew.

Can they all make it out alive?

Find out in Blind Betrayal!

Five out of five stars!

Happy Reading

Blind Betrayal is the third book in Nancy Mehl's Defender of Justice series. U.S. Marshal Casey Sloane is tasked with transporting a witness across the country to testify before a grand jury. However, everything goes wrong when the U.S. Marshal office is bombed, and it becomes a race against time to stay one step ahead of the evil doers. Bombs, kidnapping, and high speed chases make this books a thrilling read. It was my least favorite in the series as it was hard to get into in the beginning but picked up as the book progressed.

Casey Sloan, U.S. Marshall based out of St. Louis has a job to do—deliver Valerie to Washton D.C. so she can testify in a grand jury investigation into terrorist ties between a sitting U.S. Senator and a Saudi businessman. It seems like a routine gig, until she, her partner, and US Marshall E. J. Queen have to go off the grid when a bomb explodes at the St. Louis Marshall’s office.

No matter what Casey and E.J. do, they can’t seem to escape whoever’s chasing them down. the cornucopia of characters makes it difficult at times to track the action. The dialogue seems a little stilted.

Third in the Defenders of Justice Series, Blind Betrayal is a fast-paced novel with a lot of characters. This novel is chalked full of suspense but you do need to slow down in order to get the characters straight. The book starts off with Martin Avery, an environmentalist trying to hide from people who want him dead. You don't know until later in the book if he was able to escape with his life.. Casey Sloan has to team up with Quinn a man from her past to transport a witness to safety. Their lives are in constant danger and you keep wondering how are they going to get out of the current dangerous situation alive. There are many twists and turns up to the very end.

Even though this book is part of a series you don't have to read the first two although I highly recommend as these books are enjoyable reads.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. This book is due to be released on April 17, 2018.

BLIND BETRAYAL by NANCY MEHL is an action packed novel, with the tension starting in the very first line! It is well written, the characters are real and the plot well worked out.
As U.S. Deputy Marshals set out to take Valerie Bennett, reporter and high profile witness, from the safe house she has been staying in to D.C. to testify, Ali Al-Saud and his son Ben Mattan make it their business to upset their plans. I don't want to spoil the story for you by telling you any more than that.
It is an exciting read - a fast paced thriller with a bit of romance thrown in for good measure. It is the first book that I have read by this author and it definitely will not be the last!

“As Martin Avery waited to be murdered, he was surprised to find that, more than anything, he felt offended.” What a great opening line! It immediately drew me in. I related to him too when he found he did the very thing he yells at characters on tv for doing.
As Martin waits to be murdered, Deputy U.S. Marshal, Casey Sloane prepares to transport a witness/reporter to Washington, D.C. When the office is bombed, things are thrown into chaos. The chaos and danger stalk Casey and her charge all the way to the end. It’s a great, suspenseful read with a few twists or surprises along the way.
The writing is very vivid. I could imagine every scene. It had a fantastic pace without sacrificing depth in the characters. I felt the emotions Valerie experienced were realistic. Oftentimes characters go through horrific events and just keep on with barely a hiccup. It was refreshing to see a more believable portrayal.
This is a great addition to the Defenders of Justice series. I would highly recommend it. Thank you to Bethany House for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I love a good mystery. Stories of intrigue fascinate me and stimulate my brain. I find I can often think more clearly after reading a good fiction mystery because I've already been working so hard to find the connections to solve the crime. Blind Betrayal may keep me thinking for weeks!

U.S. Marshals, subpoenaed witnesses, and terrorist plots. They all come together to create a tangled web of deceit and intrigue.

U.S. Marshals Casey Quinn and Doug Howard are escorting their witness to D.C. so that she can testify before a hearing. But before they can even get on the road chaos ensues as a bomb goes off.  Quinn and Howard meet up with a third U.S. Marshal, and together the three Marshals take the witness off the grid and to safety.

What follows is a story filled with car crashes, cases of mistaken threats, and a criminal so hopped up on drugs he can no longer carry out the crimes he was tasked with committing. While Mehl provides a fairly complete picture of what is going on as the story unfolds, I still did not expect the ending as it was written.

Since I jumped into the Defenders of Justice storyline with the third book, I found Blind Betrayal to be a full complete story on its own. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be looking for the rest of the series!

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley. This review is my own, honest opinion.
