Having no previous knowledge of this relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hickok. I was curious to learn more. I was immediately drawn into the book and enjoyed the setting and descriptions. However, I lost interest part way through the book. I found myself scanning through to get to the end. At times I wanted to just read a quick biography and get the facts about the situation..

A fascinating account of a important friendship to Mrs. Roosevelt I enjoyed learning about their friendship and her life behind the scenes. A wonderful read I highly recommend.

I really liked learning about this little piece of history and these two interesting ladies, but I would have preferred a more in depth, fully formed story. I thought this book just skimmed over the surface. It would be a great choice for those that like a lighter historical read.

I have been very lucky lately in being gifted with the opportunity to read and review some amazing books. This one tops the list. Undiscovered Country is fascinating historically as well as an intriguing observation on societies opinions and demand of people to fit a certain outline that may not be who they really are at their core. I could not put this book down and I love reading, having lost count of how many books I have read since I was 3 and first knew how. Undiscovered Country is going on my shelf to be shared with lots of people. Absolutely stunning job to Kelly O'Connor McNees. If only Hick and Eleanor could have been alive today!

If you want a great book to enlighten you on Lorena “Hick” Hickok and the questionable relationship between her and Eleanor “Nora” Roosevelt, wife of Franklin D. Roosevelt during the 1930’s, starting during the campaign for his first term, then this is the book for you. Several books have been written about this subject once the thousands of letters written between the two were released to the public by Lorena in 1978. This is by far the best one.
The author has done extensive research and written a very respectable yarn combining fact and fiction. The story is really about Lorena “Hick” Hickok, beginning with her reporter days, following her career changes, and her side of this love story with Eleanor. We also learn quite a bit about Eleanor’s personality, her tenacity when she wanted to accomplish something, her ambition and energy level when things needed to be done, and some of the great work she made happen as First Lady.
No matter how we perceive the relationship between these two women, it will never defray the work and accomplishments that Lorena and Eleanor accomplished during this time. They instigated many acts of kindness and valuable services for our country. The last chapter provides a synopsis of how the information in the book was gathered. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, fast read, has a great writing style. The author covered a very delicate subject in the most respectable way.
Highly recommend.
I thank Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of this book for my unbiased review.

A great look behind the curtain at a relationship that has not been covered extensively.

A well researched and beautifully written book that brings to life a remarkable and little understood woman and shines a light on her relationship with Eleanor Roosevelt, one of the most important figures of the twentieth century.
