The boy and his dragon have a wonderful day and their day is focused on being happy by getting a new kitten, playing in the park, eating with the family, etc.

What makes someone happy. Is it new friends playing ball, or perhaps a new kitten. I find these books do not always hold up against new easy reader stories coming out. And one thing I really miss with this reissue, is that inclusion of the story in Spanish.

The main character and Dear Dragon got a cat and then instead of playing with it, they immediately went outside instead! I wouldn’t leave my new kitten unless I had to! And why does this kid hang out with a dragon all the time if he has a dog that he can hang out with? It’s a good beginning reader, but not my favorite.

The Dear Dragon series is made up of several books that are easy readers. They use site vocabulary that is printed in the back of the book. This book is written with 85 words that are printed in the back. It reminds me of the books I learned to read with.

In this book, the boy and his dragon have a wonderful day with many things making them feel happy. It starts with them getting a kitten from a farm, making new friends at the park, learning a new game (baseball) and finally getting together with his family for a wonderful dinner. All things that make the boy and his dragon happy. All this is told in simple, repetitive, easy vocabulary. These Beginning-to-Read books capture the imaginations of beginning readers and help them on their way to independent reading. They could also be read aloud to young children who are not able to read yet. The back of the book has several suggested activities that can be used for reading reinforcement. A great addition to a family library or a primary classroom.
