This book has only three main characters and therefore I was impressed with how the story developed. After a while it seems you get to know Jane, David and Freddie better… till you spot the first lie. But although the story developed, I missed the real suspense. At some points it becomes rather predictable and I had some trouble getting my head around who was thinking wat at a certain stage.
One of the three is the really ‘bad person’ but this was no surprise at all because we read about how this person thinks and feels. It makes you shiver. Of the other two, one is a really deceptive person and the other is absolutely innocent and it is a pity what happens to this person.
All in all I enjoyed the book, but not so much as to give it more than 3 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a digital ARC in exchange for my honest review.

My Review: 4/5

This is one of those books that I can say, “well I certainly didn’t expect that”. I get tired of books being so predictable and easy to figure out. Liars was a pleasant change from the predictability.

Liars started out slow for me. However, about a quarter of the way through it picked up. Jenny learns her mother has died from an accident. When the police question her, an unexpected witness appears stating he saw her the night of her mother’s death taking all suspicion off Jenny. Soon, the witness (David) becomes attached to Jenny and things start to take a curious turn.

Jenny’s best friend Freddie is suspicious of David, and when he starts uncovering hidden secrets he does everything he can to protect Jenny.

This is the beginning of the suspense and questions arise. Who is David? How long has he really known Jenny? The story unfolds and more and more secrets come out…just when I thought I knew the truth, more and more discoveries were made.

While the beginning of the book we a little confusin for me, the writing did a great job of pulling the story together. The characterization was superb, revealing each character just a little bit at a time, keeping the suspense alive.

If you want a story that will surprise you until the very end, pick up Liars today!

Creepy doesn't even describe the feeling I had reading this book. David is not only a stalker, he is a psychopath and very good at manipulating people. The ending blew me away and I highly recommend this book. I chose to read this book and all opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased. Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture!

Well its been nearly 24 hours and I am still confused by this one.

I have been trying to gather my thoughts about it, but not really getting anywhere trying to write them all down. There’s a part of me that feels like 3 stars is too high but this is just one of those I am just really unsure about.

When starting this, I thought I was getting a stalker story with an obvious victim.
It starts off with Jenny looking after her sick mother. Her mother dies and she tries to rebuild. Meets David, falls in love etc . Sounds like a stalker book right? Not so much.

You think you know the characters but you really don’t.
The title of this “Liars” is very fitting.
None of the characters are like-able or relatable. Neither main character (Jenny and David) were who you expected them to be.

This wasn’t what I was expecting and unfortunately what this was, I didn’t really like.

This was a tad too twisty for my liking. The twists were confusing and I found it hard to keep up with what was going on.

5☆  WOW!!

Wow oh wow what a gripping read, so many scrumptious twists and turns I was completely mesmerized.

Liars is the Perfect title for this perfect psychological thriller.
There are sooo many lies and secrets when you do feel like your discovering the truth there is another spanner in the works.

Jenny's mum dies after falling in the snow from drinking too much.
Jenny's best friend Freddie is her rock!

But in walks David.

David comes across as the perfect friend / boyfriend. That is until the creepy personality traits start to leak out!
But you know what David gave me chills!!!!
He is controlling, Minipulative, he made my skin crawl, his obsessive, extremely jealous, cold, all signs of someone who is abusive!
The signs are all right there... but Jenny just can't see it.
Freddie can! .... David knows far to much!

I'm affraid I can't give anymore of the plot away for fear of spoilers.

I loved the blogging entries, which is becoming quiet a fresh trend, it adds depth to the story as your reading it as fresh evidence so to speak... replacing the ever popular diary entry. But also opens up a whole new level of threat as it's aired on social media.

For me what makes a perfect psychological thriller, it has to have chilling memorable Characters, a creepy unnerving Atmosphere, intricate juicy  lil twists you don't see coming, a plot that keeps you engrossed and completely captivated till the early hours and chilling crimes that you want to unravel.
Frances manages to tick every single box and more!!

Within the story mental health, dementia, grief, murder, abuse, sexual abuse, bullying are just some of the topics raised within the story. However Frances has weaved in the subjects with sensitivity which are relevant and strengthen the plot.

Frances has written a gripping fast paced character driven story that really draws you in.
If you are looking for a creepy unnerving psychological thriller, which will make your blood run cold and the hairs on your arms stand up, that will keep you on your toes then this is definitely the book for you!

Review: When I first started to read this book, I thought I had a clear picture of what would develop throughout the plot and ultimately transpire in the end. However, Frances did an amazing job at building the plot little by little to keep readers engaged until the very end. There were multiple corners I turned blindly, which is exactly what I look for when reading a psychological thriller. Additionally, Jenny's character in particular is incredibly relatable, especially in regards to the reaction she was to the loss of her mother. Losing someone you cared for is such a unique and ambiguous experience. I really enjoyed how she went through various stages of the grieving process as it made her character seem more real and vulnerable. I could never quite put my finger on David's character nor the relationship he has with Jenny. This aspect of the novel kept my curiosity flowing because I continuously wanted to know more about the dynamics between them. Overall, I found this novel to be gripping and deceitful, which again are two words I want to use when describing my thoughts on a thriller. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a contemporary thriller with a relatable and likable female lead.

In this story we are introduced to Jenny ( a blogger and psychology student) and her best friend Freddie, who is always there for her, especially since the sudden death of Jenny's mother, which is where the book starts off from. The moment we are introduced to David, it is clear that there is something dark and disturbing about him, instantly adding tension to the story. Freddie soon becomes suspicious of David, realising there is more to him than meets the eye. The story covers themes of secrets, lies and deception, obsession and stalking, I will leave my description there for fear of giving too much away.

My thoughts: To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about this one. Although it was a well written, tension filled story, I failed to get into it as I didn't feel much of a connection to these twisted, unlikeable characters. It bothered me how naive Jenny could be, especially since she was a psychology student, she should have been able to pick up on the many clues that were right in front of her. The story dragged for me at times and the further I read, the more predictable it became. The title and blurb definitely contributed to its predictability. Mixed feelings on this one for sure. I therefore give this a 3⭐️ rating.

Many thanks to Netgalley, Frances Vick and Bookouture for the opportunity of reading an ARC of this book in exchange for my unbiased opinion.

This book has it all.

A great cast, the lead being Jenny.
Jenny has a male friend, they’ve known each other for years.

The first lie.

He is in love with her.

Jenny starts off looking after her disabled mother, her mother is quite overly found of her alcohol. One day she wanders and is found laying near to death.

Jenny has a blog The name of that blog is quite symbolic to the story. I won’t mention it here.

It’s diffi to write a review without giving away spoilers.

This is how it made me feel.

1. Totally lost within its surroundings trying to figure out who the liars were.

2. Annoyed when outside interruptions disturbed my reading.

3. Awesome

4. WOW

5. And just how did this author come up with this plot?

I read the back inside cover to discover just what triggered off this plot from the author. Which then made me go WOW yet again.

So far this month, this book is getting dropped into my Top Reads for this coming year to sort out at the end of this year.

My thanks to Bookoutour via Net Galley for my early copy.

Jenny Holloway's life was not an easy one and it certainly is not getting any easier now that her mother was found dead with a broken neck in the snow near their home. Her only solace is her best friend Freddie who has always been there for Jenny. Freddie is not the only man in her life, though. She recently started a new relationship with David. Like her, he also was caring for an ailing mother. Something Jenny understood all too well. David is not what he seems though. He might seem kind and caring, looking out for Jenny's best interest and wanting to keep her safe. Looks can be deceiving and David is a master in disguise. David is manipulative and dangerous. The only one who notices it is Freddie, but will it be too late to save Jenny from the clutches of a stalker and psychopath?

LIARS starts out in a slow pace introducing you to the characters and really digs in deep on their background. I was a little skeptical, I will admit, during the first quarter of the story. I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out as nothing really jumped right out of the pages. The build up was slow and steady, you know something is going to happen and you are anticipating it. The anticipation is what kept me glued to the story. Once it picks up, it REALLY hits you full force. I realized at that point Jenny's background was essential to the story because it gives you an understanding as to why David may have seemed like the perfect and caring boyfriend he made himself out to be.

The author, Frances Vick certainly made David one horribly creepy, obsessive and manipulative stalker/boyfriend. Just the little ways he wrapped his control around Jenny so easily made me want to personally shake Jenny, like "Wake up OMG! Can't you see what he is doing to you!" David's need for control was so subtle yet so powerful. He came across as helpful, worried, extremely caring as he manipulated Jenny at every possible turn he could. I can see why Jenny fell for him especially with the way she grew up and why she felt the need to defend his actions or to play it off as if it was nothing. Freddie was the only friend who could see through David's actions and he desperately wants to get Jenny away from him. I adored Freddie he was such a stand out character for me. He really cares about Jenny and treats her like she is family. He would do anything for her. Freddie is the best friend every girl wishes she could have.

LIARS sucks you right in and holds on tight never letting you go until the last final moments. I was hooked! This story right here proves why Psychological Thrillers ranks high on my reading list. I highly recommend you pick up a copy and immerse yourself in the psychotic rollercoaster. You are in for one heck of a ride!

I really enjoyed the way that Liars made me wonder where the story would go I wouldn't necessarily class it as fast paced but it had a very real way of pulling me in. The short chapters definitely helped to keep me engaged and eager to find out more. I also enjoyed the blog posts style entries as they gave a bit of insight into what Jenny was feeling. The characters in this book aren't necessarily likeable but I think this worked well for the style of the story it kept the reader wondering and thinking about their motives.

There were twists and turns that made the story even more intriguing and Liars manages to have that tense undercurrent running throughout. With revelations timed to help increase the feeling of unease the more you get involved in the story. There were shocks and surprises that left me thinking "really wasn't expecting that" after all it's always good to be surprised. There are lots of themes featured in Liars that all come together to provide a dark and very intriguing story.

With thanks to Noelle at Bookouture for my copy. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

I don't know what to think of this story, I have mixed feelings about it. At first, it seemed interesting than it lost my interest. I found it be rather confusing and couldn't hold my attention. The story follows Jenny, David and Freddy there are the main characters. I couldn't connect with any of them expect with Freddy only for a little.

Jenny had been through a lot of trauma in her life. She has no money nor a job and writes in a blog. The books start with the unexpected death of her mother than enters David, he showers Jenny with expensive gifts that before didn't interest her. Freddy grows suspicious of David and there is more to him than meets the eye. That's all I say as I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

Good golly Miss Molly! This book completely funked over my brain! There I was, minding my own business, when all of a sudden everything I thought about the storyline was no longer.....true. Hell, I'm surprised the characters names were correct! Yes, yes, there were moments after the book played with my head something chronic, that I was just waiting for the characters names to end up being a lie.

Isn't it crazy what one storyline can do to your mind?

I am being extremely careful with my review as I really don't want to give anything anyway, especially as every little detail plays a huge part in the overall vibe of the book.

I am genuinely surprised that I managed to put my jaw back in its correct place! It seem to spend a lot of the duration of the novel, hanging down in shock! Every time I turned the page, there was yet another thing waiting to shock me or funk my head up in even more. I really didn't know who to believe. The character who I ended up showing more empathy towards, ended up being extremely colourful and weirdly so, I felt a bit betrayed. How daft does that sound?

'Liars' kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I did find the first part a little on the slow side, but after finishing the book, I can see why the author has written it that way as it's a bit like 'the calm before the storm'. Plus, setting the scene where this book is concerned, is extremely important because as readers, we need to create a picture in our own minds about what might happen. Without Frances Vick spoon-feeding parts of the storyline to begin with, I really don't think that the book would have gripped me as much as it did.

Incredibly clever, highly gripping and incredibly intense, 'Liars' will leave you thinking that every single person is a liar....including yourself. Fabulous.

I found it rather slow and depressing at first with the death and the funeral although it introduced the characters well. It just seemed morbid at the time of reading. Having said that it portrays the stages of grief very well especially as the deceased was not revered, and the guilt was heavily-laden. The expectation of society is to respect the dead, especially a parent's death. Jenny is quite needy and sets up a blog as a prop for sympathy. That certainly reveals the problem of blogging in that personal way and I'm not a huge fan of that kind of thing. The characters aren't quite what they seem. There are clues along the way and you know the characters are not genuine in some indefinable way at first. I thought David was really weird and pretentious. Freddie I couldn't figure out properly but that was intentional I think. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture.

I loved the way that the author has with words. She managed to tell her story but also make a
horrific situation seem beautiful. The main characters get a phone call and has to go identify
her dead mother. Much to her horror it seems as if her mother has fallen off a mountain ledge
and passed. Because of the mysterious surroundings of the passing the main character (Jenny) suddenly
becomes suspect number one. She then starts a blog to to try to get her feelings straight about
her mother's passing. Things start to go weird for her when she realizes that her friend
David who has been there for her through this whole ordeal might not be the man he says he is.
In fact he might be something completely different. This book was a little hard to describe without giving
away any important facts about the story line. I do think it was this way though because of how well done
the story was written it just flowed together seamlessly I didn't want to put it down, after every page I had to
read another to see what was going to happen. I did think that the main character was a little bit naive
wen it came to what was happening around her but that was part of what made the story so compelling. My
favourite character in this whole book however had to be Jenny's friend Freddie he was the most interesting
because he was a smart character and I liked how much he tried to look out for his friend Jenny.
Great read and this will be highly suggested to everyone I talk to for a long time to come. If you are
into suspense books and stories where every time you think you have it figured out there is a new twist
than this is definitely a book to check out. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to read this story.

I did enjoy the first part of the story, but it became a little too far fetched for me I’m afraid.

This is a tricky book to review as I don’t want to give too much away about the story line.

Although it makes for addictive reading, reading this was draining rather than pleasurable. It’s all based on lies, and whilst it gets a little confusing it took quite a bit of mind thoughts to read.

Not to say I didn’t enjoy it, I did. But not one I would read again.

Thank you to Net Galley and Bookouture for providing me with an e-ARC copy! All opinions in this review are my own and are honest.

I originally rated this 3 stars however I've decided to reduce my rating to 2 stars – this book put me into a sort of slump. I can normally read a physical book and a kindle book as the same time with no problems but this book just took it out of me and once I'd finished the physical book I was reading at the same time, I didn't pick the next one up because this was just dragging and put me into a bit of a slump. I've yet to pick up another physical book and I'm lucky that my next kindle read is one of my anticipated reads of 2018 so I was obviously excited for that.

The more I thought about it also, I was annoyed with the ending. I liked the way it ended apart from the very end part which I thought was going to be a bit longer and ended up being a couple of pages and that was it. I just wish there was a bit more to finish the story off; I liked the actual way it ended and it made sense because you were questioning things that were happening all the way through and this end twist made you think, what really happened earlier on and what was made to look like it happened? But I think it would have been a lot better without that end chapter.

This started off really slow for me despite it beginning with the death of an elderly woman – I just wasn't interested and I found myself disliking Jenny. I don't mind unlikable characters but Jenny was just whiny and there was just something that made her seem so boring. Although, I didn't find myself disliking David; yes he was obviously strange and he had issues but I didn't dislike him as much as I disliked Jenny.

And then there's the matter of the random flicking to the past that happens ~60% in. I understand it's purpose and why it was included and yes, it answered a lot of questions but it just seemed like it could have been part of another story. Although it answered plenty of questions, like I said above, I just was bored reading it and as soon as it flicked back to the present, I became interested again in reading on and finding out what happened. I think I struggled in general with the writing of this story because as I said, it put me into a bit of slump and I struggled to get through it all

This is a tricky book to review as I don’t want to spoil it for you.
It’s definitely a book that makes you question who is telling the truth and when you think you know what’s going on, the rug is pulled out from under your feet!
The book starts with a glimpse into Jenny’s life and we find out that her mother died and this affected her deeply.
Her best friend Freddie is a real support but when she meets David, her friendship with Freddie suffers.
There are lots of twists and turns in this book and as the title suggests, there is someone telling huge lies too!
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read this book.

There’s something wrong with David. That much is clear from the minute he comes into the scene. Before then, readers are introduced to Jenny and her best friend, Freddie. The two are close with Freddie helping Jenny deal with some difficulties in her life. Through the opening chapters, we also find out that Jenny is a blogger. She uses her personal blog to share her challenges with the online community.

The tension in the story escalated the minute David entered into their lives. I knew there was something dark about him. However, I couldn’t have predicted just how dark and twisted. As far as the characters go, I really like Freddie. He is the kind of friend that everyone should have. I enjoyed his narrations and he made me smile a couple of times especially with his irritating ringtone.

At first, the story is narrated through alternating POVs mainly between Jenny and Freddie and we get to know David through the two. I enjoyed these narrations. However, I found myself struggling a little bit when the entire timeline and narrators shifted to the past. I know this was important in order for the character’s background stories to be provided. However, it almost felt like the beginning of an entirely new story. This threw me off a bit and I struggled to remember where we had left off in the previous narrative set in the present. I usually don’t mind alternating timelines but I guess I prefer when the two run concurrently(alternating chapters) so that it doesn’t feel like two different stories.

I wouldn’t describe the reveals/twists in the book as shocking because I was able to predict the twist just from title and the blurb. Vick’s previous title, Bad Little Girl shocked me but in this case, I was expecting the twist. Nonetheless, I like how the author built the tension heading into the twist. He crafted unlikable, twisted characters and with the escalating tension, the train wreck was inevitable. I knew what was coming but I still couldn’t stop turning the pages.

Despite the few issues that I had especially with the shifting timelines, I liked this book and will definitely look out for Vick’s next title
