There are references to abuse and mental health in this which may be triggers for some, however they do relate very much to the start. The story is a good one and the plot is very good.

The characters were well developed.

Sharing a home with someone isn’t always easy, even if they are family or friends.

In this instant these two need to be together in order to have affordable rent. Mary is odd though, the reader can sense this themselves although it’s not us living with her!

It’s a fascinating plot that was good and held my attention

The New Girl by Ingrid Alexandra

Definitely a must read especially for single women living with roommates. It certainly makes you wonder who can you trust. Mary has a roommate named Rachel and for some reason Mary’s friends don’t really like her that much. However Mary really feels sorry for her after all of the bad things that has happened to her. Rachel does seem to know a lot about Mary. More than anyone will actually know. The only downside to this book was the ending. I will not give it away On the hopes that if you read it, you will have a different opinion. The writer does a great job at holding the readers interest but I was really hoping for something more at the end.

This was a good, fast-paced psychological thriller, and it kept me interested. I was a bit disappointed in the ending. However, it was still a good read.

The New Girl by Ingrid Alexandra is a book about the main character, Mary, on the run from an abusive relationship. This is the first Ingrid Alexandra book I've read and I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the format of this book with its short chapters. The story is interesting and the characters and fully fleshed out. I did have some issues with consistency in this book but I was able to overlook it.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I wasnt sure of this book to start with but actually i really enjoyed it.

There were so many twists and turns to the story. You think you have managed to work it out but you haven't.

It is an easy read which is good as you can fly through it in a couple of days.

Keeps you guessing till the end.

This was a great solid debut novel by an author that must be watched in future. The book started out reminding you of Single White Female, but was even better with every twist and turn!
Recommended.

I wanted to love this and I was interested in the beginning but I lost that interest and somehow couldn't really get back into the story.
Just wasn't for me.

Absolutely brilliantly written, I mever would have guessed the way the story progressed! The writing style was brilliant, and I was hooked from the start.

The story follows a few key people, with perspectives of a couple, with some areas being cleverly done as though a diary. I loved seeing the plot progress through all the stages, gasping at revelations and being left stunned by the conclusion! Absolutely brilliantly done. i adored this start to end and I can’t WAIT to see what else the Author has to offer!

Very interesting story. Mary is renting a place with two other roommates, they decide to get one more and Mary meets Rachel. Although the other roommmates aren’t crazy about Rachel, Mary is drawn to her, thinking that Rachel - like herself - is recovering from an abusive relationship. There is so much more to this story with the disappearance of Mary’s parents, Mary’s past abusive relationship & mental health, a murder, and who exactly is Rachel? Compelling read!

I just finished this book. Hold on one second while I catch my breath…
Ok, so if you’re looking for a book that has an incredible twist that you won’t see coming until the end? Yep… you found it. “The New Girl” is an incredibly fast paced read.
Cat, Mary, and Ben are looking for a new roommate to share a big apartment on the seaside. When Mary greets Rachel after she knocks on the door one afternoon, it’s clear that she’s the perfect tenant to share the apartment. She relates to Mary more than Mary realizes it at first.
I will not spoil the crazy ass plot of this story any further but will tell you… seasoned readers of psychological thrillers will love the unpredictable twist that will leave you gasping aloud! So we highly recommend this book and we look forward to reading more of Ingrid Alexandra’s books!
Thank you Ingrid for the ARC copy of your amazing book in exchange for an honest review! Truly our pleasure!

A decent psychological thriller set in Australia. Mary, the main character is interesting enough for me to keep reading and see where her story will take me. Though, I find it hard to connect with her most of the time. I appreciate the twist and turn of the story but I wished there's more to it, especially the bits about her parents, than the repetitive back story about her ex-boyfriend. Still, it was a good read overall.

Full review to come.
I deeply apologize, but life is a handful lately and I'm using all my free time to read, not review. I hope everybody understands.

I do like a psychological thriller and this story of a new flatmate who isn’t all she appears to be appealed to me straightaway. Mary Baker is the main protagonist. She’s just moved to Sydney from Melbourne with her best friend, Cat. Mary is trying to get away from Mark, her ex-boyfriend, a man who really wasn’t very nice at all, to Mary or to anyone else. They also share with Ben and then Rachel. Rachel is ‘the new girl’. But, whilst Mary takes to Rachel and sees a kindred spirit, the others aren’t sure about her. She sleepwalks and seems to know more about Mary than she ought to do.

There’s a real underlying sense of menace to this story, particularly from the half way point. I was reading that section in bed at night and it was quite unsettling. Mary is an unreliable narrator, one of those where you don’t know if what they are saying is the truth or not. This is mainly because Mary suffers from memory problems and drinks a lot. This made for quite an exciting read and I did find this book to be a page turner.

I thought the ending let it down a little bit. It seemed a little rushed, a little contrived. But I do think psychological thrillers are often like that. To maintain that sense of unreliability, of suspense, the story often throws a curveball that might not be completely plausible. Nevertheless, I enjoyed all the book including the ending.

I liked the Australian setting. Location is relatively important in this book and I was able to really imagine the set up in Sydney in particular. The flat where the characters live, the complex swimming pool, the fact that it’s really warm at Christmas, all these helped to bring the story to life for me.

Overall, I thought this was an excellent debut novel and I’d definitely read more by Ingrid Alexandra.
