There was much to enjoy here, but I found I couldn't connect with it. I'd read more from this author in the future though.

The New York Time’s review is headed “A Mother, Her Son, His Grandmother and Their Lifelong Grief”. This, in effect, sums up the whole of this wonderful book, a story of love and loss, confusion and inarticulacy, of grief and longing, of redemption and salvation, all centred on the unforgettable Edgar, a child who broke my heart. Impossible to go into details of the plot as any hint of the story spoils the slow but perfectly paced trajectory of the narrative. Suffice it to say that for me this is a small masterpiece and a book that I won’t easily forget.
